Hey all,
Just purchased an MDA III compact and overlooked the lack of wifi lol...
Noticed a few MiniSD wifi cards on ebay etc, but i understand the card slot is under the sim card on the MDAc III... i assume these "Spectec" wifi cards will not fit in this space, so is there any adaptor available running along a ribbon or something... or is it possible to create something like this? lol
Cheers,
Rogggo
lol?
MDA III has a WiFi...

Well at least My T-Mobile MDA III has a WiFI
Welcome to wireless Nirvana: the MDA III offers quad-band GSM/GPRS 850/900/1800/1900 MHz with GPRS Class 8 and 10, Blueooth and Wi-Fi 802.11b. Signal reception for all three radios proved on average very good, and T-Mobile thankfully decided to include a new Bluetooth stack rather than the profile-anemic atrocity found in the MDA II. Profiles abound, and for Wi-Fi the MDA III supports both WEP and WPA, as well as 802.1x for added security - a boon for both enterprise users and security-conscious consumers.

Hey all,
I know that the current PDA2K GSM is GPRS enabled but not EDGE (EGPRS). Will there be an EDGE version or did I just buy a Siemens SX66 for no reason at all... hmm I mean I realize you probably can't upgrade it via a soft upgrade or an SD card... but at any rate any thoughts on whether an EDGE chipset based device will be available?
In PDA2k form? Never.
HTC has moved on to it's next line of products.
The HTC Universal has UMTS support, the step above EDGE.
The HTC Wizard does indeed have EDGE support. I personally believe late buyers of the PDA2k got screwed, and would not recommend ANYONE buy a new device until the next line is out.
The next v ersio nis not the form factor I (and a lot of others) desire. Yes newer and faster is better, but did what were they thinking onthe re-design of this device. I did not want a mini laptop, I want (and bought) a PDA with slid out keyboard. This has been their most popular device, and have touted how their financial numbers have skyrocketed, have they forgotten why?
I know that a lot of people that I have spoken with are just as disappointed in the new design as I am. How about others on this board?

Is UMTS backwards compatible
Question is UMTS backwards compatible, like most edge enabled phones still support gprs, will the UMTS phones operate one edge networks. because out here in the USA UMTS is no where near, cingular is still trying to make there edge networks nation wide, and tmobile doesnt even have an edge network,
sorry what is edge????

Hypothetically, you can buy Backpack for XDA (100$ at my place:-( which gives CardFlash (CF) extension to your device and then you will need to buy CF GPRS/EDGE modem card (usual CF card for notebooks ~150$)
Cheers
So there isn't such thik as an EDGE upgrade for the siemes?
Hi guys
I bought a T-Mobile MDAIII Compact yesterday. It was a toss up between this & the MDA Vario II. So which is the best and why?
I asked the guy in the shop whether the MDAIII Compact was 3G capable as I found GPRS very slow. He told me it was 3G capable and the Vario II was 3.5G capable.
Is this correct?
John
No the MDA-CIII is not 3G it uses standard GPRS, the device is equipped with Edge but I have not be4n able to try this yet as I don't think the networks actually support this format as yet, it should offer higher speed once it is enabled though.
Most of the T-Mobile shops I have tried were insistant the CIII also had WiFi, so I would take their advice with a pinch of salt to be honest - Mike
Thanks Mike
Do you know if the Vario II has 3G or even 3.5G as he told me?
The Vario II does have 3.5G, aka HSDPA
All,
I have a T-Mobile MDA Compact III and would like to know is it possible to enable WiFi or this model does not support Wifi?
Thanks
Msuk
Unfortunately not. The device does not contain the Wifi chipset.
The ortbit does but then o2's 2G data charges mean that this is essential. T-Mobiles data charges are pretty reasonable so the lack of Wifi on the MDA is acceptable IMHO.
Hi all,
I got a T-Mobile MDA Compact III Navigator a.k.a HTC Artemis, and I dont have wifi, but I know that Artemis does have wifi.
Can I put Windows Mobile 6 rom and then get wifi support or it is removed on hardware also?
Thank you!
Hi.
I have MDA Compact 3, T-mobile UK. I am using WM6.1 Rom.
Sorry but wifi hardware is missing, it's not just a software issue.
I was hoping for the same too..
My upgrade is coming up in few months and I'm definitely going for the MDA Compact 4, which has wifi.
Sorry again
Hi guys!
I've got a T-mobile mda compact 3, so its a P3300 without WLAN or WIFI or whatever you call it. Is there a chance to activate the wifi chip?
thanks a lot
