Lost in Crossbow - JASJAR, XDA Exec, MDA Pro Software Upgrading

Hi guys,
I am a newbie about Crossbow but I would like to upgrade to Crossbow but I am not sure which version would be the more stable? I am using my phone mainly for Phone, Email push, Agenda, Sync with Outlook, will it be fine?
Also, after upgrading to crossbow can I go back to my initial O2 image without too much trouble?
Thank you for your help.

All of your questions can be answered by reading the wiki, and threads.
Everyone will probably say the ROM they are using is the best thing ever, it's a highly personal choice as to what suits you best.
All will do what you want, and yes you can go back, but please, read, and understand what you are going to be doing first BEFORE you flash it. If you mess it up, it's your own fault, and although people will try to help, sometimes inexperience, and lack of understanding can make people do something really stupid.

Thank you Alan.
Indeed with the Wiki I manage to update to crossbow Image.
I give a try at PDAviet latest ROM I will see how it goes.
Thanks for your help.

My dear friend,
There is no need for user feed back.
If I flash a ROM and find it to be bad and recommend to you as good one, u will flash it and find it unsuitable
If I flash a ROM and find it to be good and tell u that its not good, then u lose the advantage of getting a good ROM
So it is better for you to flash and find for yourself which ROM is better. To find out whether it suits your needs
Note : Please read all the instructions for flashing before you start

Well my friend..... if that is the case....lets just close the FORUM and have downloads only!!!???

I finally flash my universal with Crossbow.
It's great so far. I didn't use the push email and other data functionality since I am abroad but I found the speed of the O/S really fantastic.
Thanks guys for your help.

Dude,
I see you are a newbe, some simple advice for you. There is pages and pages of stuff on rom upgrades on this site, you just have to look. take some time to search the pages for what you want. you can even use google to search and finish your search question with XDA developers. But thereis a good search button on this site. I used to ask questions but got an answer much faster by looking and you learn more by doing that. you have a good machine there so look on here and use it. there are some really clever people putting stuff on here so ENJOY IT
P.S once you have unlocked your rom and flashed it you can put what rom for a universal you want on it.
Have fun
Jay
i already did that but since there's so many information and so many rom versions, radio, etc...And i cant find nothing interesting in the sticky's, guides or something to help...:X its hard do search for something that i dunno what it looks like.
i read the wiki but it doesnt says if i need to backup the actual rom.
im going to do more search for it, one more time...
ps: they should put the "important" guides in sticky, but that is just my opinion

Flash the OEM Stock ROM Before EVERY Upgrade?

I know people have repeatedly said it's best to flash a stock ROM before upgrading to your cooked rom, but do you do this before every ROM change? Wasn't sure of the protocol...thanks
Each and every time - normal procedure for me to avoid hard resets, etc.
Same thing for the wizards also.......
Edit - as corrected by other responses, not a standard procedure for flashing roms, just a procedure I follow due to hard reset issues previously.
Thanks for the quick reply!
I actually have 1 more question...does it matter WHICH rom you flash? like do you need to flash the rom that the cooked rom is most based off of?
I have been using this one before flashes: RUU_Hermes_CINGULAR_WWE_3.62.502.3_6275_1.54.07.00_108_UOOS_SVN05_Ship
but just realized i may need to have a stock rom that is closer to what i am flashing
That's the oem rom I've been using.....
Should someone respond with something better, then we both will have a new base for flashing.
Have a good one
ROM minus the radio
I believe someone had posted once that OEM ROM extracted without the radio...i'd like to find that so i'm not reflashing my radio too every time...
Is this really true? I haven't been to active on the board the last few months, but I don't remember seeing that prior to this. What's the technical reason behind it? I don't know how many dozens of times I've flashed my phone...haven't had an official ROM on it since the day I bought the thing.
I haven't and so far I have not had any hard reset with any ROMs that I have tried for the last year. My latest being MaRaHox 5.02.
I guess it is best practice to do so, best to flash with your carrier shipped rom, and then upgrade/downgrade your radio, then your desired rom that you wish to keep.

Yea it is true, if you had used a search before posting a new thread you might have found it! Here is the link!
The only time I flash a OEM ROM is if I am going from BIGSTORAGE to non BIGSTORAGE. Thats just me though and I haven't had any problems.
Fortunately, I never needed to flash the official. But it's the best thing to do for those having HR & Bigstorage flashing issues...
I use Vp3G 6.0 ROM as my baseline. It is close to the standard AT&T ROM. The biggest problem is goingfrom a big storage ROM back to a "standard" ROM. However, I baseline my device each time I flash a new ROM because it only takes a few minutes to do so.

You must be joking...
first of all - i am not an idiot, i know how to search, i just don't always know how to FIND - i did search...for like 20 minutes!! i couldn't find the exact answer to that question. Of course YOU knew where to find that thread cause u were posting in it earlier!
second - i don't see the reason people get SO offended over a repost?! of course if it is something that is asked EVERY day and it is your first post and u are like, which is the best rom...ok, you deserve to hear it...but people love to flame you over asking a question when it takes 2 seconds of someones time to answer and it could take me literally 20 minutes or more to find the specific answer i am looking for. Plus other people got benefit from my asking again so what is the bloody harm??
Third - you got me all excited and didn't link me to what i was looking for! I saw someone post the OEM ATT ROM but without the radio. So, Mr. Smart guy, please search your loving heart out and help me find it...please! Cause i have no clue how to find that file
EDIT: Whoops, ok i just read where you explained how to do the extraction...that does help actually thanks
Flashing an official rom prior to flashing WM6.1 roms may be a good a practice. however, on my part, i never needed to do that. I just flashed PdaViet's WM6.1 rom from Shaminix's WM6 rom and it is still stable and fast. No hard resets whatsover. I am also using an ATT 8525 handset.
It seems as though people are asking if this is standard practice or not... The answer is simple... It is not standard practice for everyone... It is completely up to the individual, if this is what they want to do....
I suffer from RFWS (Rom Flashing Withdrawal Syndrome) and due to my disorder, I usually flash several times a week and NEVER do I flash an OEM rom before flashing the rom I actually want... I also don't have any issues while doing it this way...
Now, with that being said, I can understand why one would flash when going from BigStorage to NonBigStorage or Vice-Versa, but that is about it...
/rantoff
I just flash the rom i want to try out , no official roms for me ,if it isn't an illegal rom it just doesnt't feel right
i used to flash everyday, but then the big white van with the blue flashing lights took me away to the big house

I was about to say that you have to start reading, but I am glad that post helped you out!

Sorry..another noobie

I'm afraid I've had to resort to posting the million dollar question, how do I flash a modified ROM? I've been searching for hours on how to but just can't find anything that explains things in plainly. I've visited various websites that have links here but I can't work out where to even start. There's all this talk SPL and stuff that I have no clue what it is.
Could somebody please post replies to this and guide me through it? I'd appreciate it very much as I really like my Diamond but it could do with a boost.
Thanks
Maybe you over looked the search take a look at this thread it will help you,

Thanks guys for the pointers. I must admit I've been looking at these before. However, having looked at them in a bit more detail, I can see how it's starting to get together.
There were 3 things that I couldn't find on the pages...
1. How do I back up my existing ROM (and everything that will be overwritten) so should things go wrong, I have a restore option?
2. The page about upgrading your ROM says.."now download a ROM of your choice". Somehow that doesn't sound as simple as it's put. There are ROMs all over the place, how do I know what will work on my Diamond.
3. Is it really worth upgrading the ROM? i.e Are there any actual success stories of the Diamond "flying" along as if it's just been injected with steriods?
Look forward to your replies.
Thanks
1: ROM backup - search is your best friend, there are a few open threads about this procedure.
As for making a backup of your contacts/msgs etc, you can sync the device with windows, use PIMbackup or sprite backup.
2: You won't know till you find a ROM which fits your needs. There is no universal BEST rom...
3: Yes there are. ^.^

a good place to start is by only downloading ROMs from the Diamond forums

what ROM should i put? standard or modded? pls

heya there,
i am kinda new around here, i know a little about themes, programs and stuff, but now i want to change my rom, i have the original one:
ROM: 1.93.479.3 WWE
DATE: 07/25/08
RADIO: 1.00.25.05
my question is, what rom should i install, the official one, which come from the producer site, or a modded one found around here on xda?
i searched the forum, dont get me wrong, but my problem is, if i put a modded rom, which one, which one is working well and without many errors.
i know that all of them r made by enthusiast ppl who dedicate their time to make such a great job, but i am kinda stuck in the fields, i dont know which one to pick, realy.
if anyone tryed some of them and can share some experience i'll be very glad.
i sow that the radio version is very importat, some of the roms arond here have some apps missing and some apps new comparing with the original ROM realise.
duno realy what to pick.
About TF3D thems i read some and used some, at this very moment i use the Dirty Paper Theme By Zitoun, awsome theme, and now i think i gona try the Copton GoliaX, i'll be thinking about.
all the best, teo.
PS: if u guys realy think that i shoud search and try it myself without any help just shoot, i dont mind. but i dont want some savant asistance, some main ideeas, maybe what to search, or what to look at when i search for a modded ROM.
Hi,
I had the same question, when I just got my phone and find out about this great site!
I was told to try myself, and find out whitch is best for me! I was mad at first, but now I get it. Everyone has theys opinion about the best ROM, one likes stock, other moded. Another likes this aplication, for someone that aplication is useless!
So try yourself!
What I like and worked for me, and many other people, you can see in my signature! Fast, stable, with aplications that you might find usefull! Also upgrade your Radio, also I like one in my signature!
If you want stock ROM with performance upgrades try AZTOR X2 Ultimate!
thanks a lot for your reply, i will try them, and i know what u said, i usualy search and after ask for directios, but now i searched and there are too many, or semes to me that are too many thats why i asked here, for some ppl to share some minimum experience with some ROMs.
i found VIPER rom ,althow and some others. i will look after yours, maybe it will be good.
oh, btw, is there a diference between 6 or 8 MB roms, read something about that.
the old rom will be completly erased, yeah? it will be replaced by the new one? and after a hard reset it will be still the new one?
thanks, teo.

I don't know what you mean by 6 or 8 mb roms, but there is such thing as pagepool that you can set to 6-8-10-12 mb etc. I don't know much about that, I know more is better! There is sticky about pagepool!
Yes, the old rom will be erased, and yes it will be replaced by the new one! And yes after hard reset it will be the new one!
There is a sticky about rom flashing, in the biginning it looks like it's conplicated task, but aqtualy is very easy! Just read the sticky!
oky, i am going to read more intensive about this matter, and hopefully, in the end i will find a good, stable and well done rom.
thanks againg for the advices.
teo.

til2 super slow

I got a brand new at&t tilt 2 , it is very slow , what rom u recommend me to make it faster , all the browsers like opera , google etc are really slow.
thanks
Energy Rom is what I use. Fast, nice looking, highly customizable. Skyfire works better for me than IE or Opera.

jsaid, didn't you just have a thread closed a little while ago for asking this same question? Use search, and do some research, please, please, please, before openingg new threads. Also, jumping into flashing can be dangerous, read the stickie at the top of this forum, especially [Resources] Flashing your First GSM Rhodium Rom (For Noobs).
