Hi
on my new Orange SPV m2000, i configured the keylock to lock everything but the power on/off switch. But.. when i receive an SMS, an eMail or when Pocket outlook wants to connect to the GPRS network (and wants to show me the little bubble saying that i'ts about to do so) then the keylock is being turend off (=the SPV is being turned on) and i can use all the keys and the touchscreen.
since i often receive SMS when my phone is min my pocket, i don't really like this kind of behaviour..
doesn't anyone have this problem too? to me it seems like a basic windows mobile problem the way things are being made... or is it just a configuration fault of mine?
any help is appreciated...
cheers
pascal
Same prob with XDAII
Don't want to hijack your thread... but i'm having the same problem with SMS.
But also, every time i receive a phonecall, the phone unlocks, and does not lock itself again. So if i have the phone on silent, it unlocks in my pocket, and then my phone starts calling people by mistake until i lock it again.
I enabled the lock all buttons except power button option but this doesn't work. The only additional software i have running on the phone is TomTom2 and Towa's patch if that makes any difference. ROM ver 1.60.50.
Any solutions? I may otherwise have to get rid of my trusty XDAII otherwise
Thanks!
Sorry, I dont have a solution, but my phone does the same.
Its as if the phones were designed on a desk, and no one bothered to try them in the real world.

Hmm... I don't have this problem on my XDAII and I don't think I ever had it. What ROMs are you XDAII peeps using? Standard UK O2 ROMs like me? (I'm up to 1.72 now.)
Wonder why my XDAII wouldn't have this problem but others might, unless it's a ROM problem.
This is a known problem with the Blue Angel, but not with the XDAII that I've heard of.
hi
i think there is alternative way to minimize problem. you can set your password for your phone, then when there is incoming call or message, even though it will unlock all button, but before you use it, the unit will ask you password. so at least you will not miss call anyone anymore.
I'm having the same problem with my Pda2k.
I've disabled all but the power button. And I do have a password on the device.
I've had the following scenarios happen;
Scenario 1:
Every time I receive an SMS, the device powers up, waits for the password - If I don't hear it it then proceeds to stay on and drain the battery.
It just doesn't seem to go back to sleep.
BTW - the unit gets very warm...
Scenario 2:
Even when I do hear it, I often find that the unit is frozen - ie I try to type in the password, the asterisks show on screen but it seems nowhere after that. I'm running Pocket Plus, which has had problems with HTC devices - but I'm not running the today plugin at the moment.
Soft Reset is the only option.

Yes, i think we are all in the same boat here. The problem is that the device wasnt designed to be in your pocket (I know.. I know.. Pocket PC). Problem being, on recieving sms/mms/call the gsm part of the device sends the wake siganl to the O/S, causing the device to power on.
The simple solution as mentioned above is to lock the keys (password) but again as mentioned this can cause alot of power loss because the device will not sleep if your leg keeps trying to enter the password (in your pocket). I'm guessing that why so many people tend to use the belt clips with these devices. :?
I'm sure it will be in the next feature request so that only the LED indicator will change and flash if chosen but until then we all have to look like geeks with belt clips.
If anyone knows of a registry hack or app that can stop the wake signal form annoying us all the please post.
Workaround
Hi there,
Same problem on my 9090. But I had this on my former crappy iPAQ 6340 too.
Here's a workaround which works for me:
Go to "Start -> Settings -> Sounds & Notifications"
then select tab "Notifications"
in the "Event"-dropdown select "Messaging: New text message" and uncheck "Display message on screen". Uncheck for "Phone: Voice mail" and "Phone: Missed call" too.
BTW: The warming device is just a feature: you don't have to buy a pocket hand warmer in winter!
Greetz,
Bofo
Or use a 3rd party software like the ones described here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=15573
I was just wondering if anyone else has experienced these problems:
With the Qtek 9000 ROM:
When using the Camera app, pressing any navigation button takes a picture (instead of zooming or changing modes).
With the new Exec 1.13.88 ROM:
The phone randomly places people on hold and then takes them off hold, then puts them on hold again.
With both:
Sometimes when using file explorer, selecting an item with the stylus stops opening folders and files but acts as if CRTL is being pressed.
I find the Qtek 9000 ROM is probably the most stable, but the camera problem is annoying.
Hi Khashim
I've a Qtek 9000 ROM, and my right/left navigation buttons do not take picture, but actually zoom.. and up/down change modes :?:
I use Resco explorer and no problem at all, too... :?
That's really weird, because when I switched to the new Exec ROM the problem disappeared, and when I switched back, it reappeared. Anybody have any idea on what could be the problem?
RE
Hi!
I'm using the QTEK 9000 set
I do not have probelems like you mentioned.
My left/right arrows changes modes and turn on/off the camera light and up/down arrows zoom
hmmm.......I am going to try and figure out if it's a problem with something in my ExtROM.
But also, is anyone having the problem where the GPRS icon does not show on the today screen, but shows when you open up any program that shows the start bar, like navigating to "Programs".
I just tried a hard reset without installing anything from the ExtROM and I still face the camera problem. I don't believe it's a hardware issue becuase the Exec ROM works fine.
I use the standard 9000 Extended_Rom, less than 500k... no problem..
Even with the GPRS/UMTS icon, they never disappeared from the top toolbar :?:

Did you install GPRS Monitor? After I did the clean hard reset (with no GPRS Monitor) I do not face the GPRS Icon problem anymore. The problem I do face now is that of the camera.
Nope, no GPRS monitor... as my job pay for my communications, I don't care
Only one last problem for you, then... :?
RE
Me too. NO problem with disappearing GPRS icon on top bar. Do not have GPRS Monitor install.
Alright, I am pretty sure GPRS monitor causes the disappearing icon problem. I had a patch installed that allowed me to disconnect GPRS from the icon (and display time connected). But I tested that out, and that surely doesn't cause the problem.
So now..........why does my camera not work properly with the Qtek ROM...
New O2 rom
I had imate rom and now I ve installed the new o2 rom.
Finally the delay answering the calls is solved.
the system is much faster and it seems very stable..
Hi,
I am new to my XDA Orbit and am liking it very much. One annoyance (which is probably due to my ignorance) is that when I receive a text or an alarm goes off, my Orbit the device turns on / comes out of powersave mode and hence the screen is active whilst it is in my pocket (could be dangerous).
Is this the correct behaviour? Surely not, as input can be made from contact with your pocket? Is there a setting to change this behaviour? What does everyone else do?
Thanks in advance for any advice
Gary
Dosn't the XDA version have the screen lock like the mda?
It's a little padlock icon at the bottom of the today screen which says device unlocked, you tap it and the screen is locked from in pocket pressing, all buttons are locked too except the power button. when the device is switched on manually or by an event the screen is only active after using a 2 tap pattern, unlikely to happen by accident.
I must admit, I thought this was part of WM5 and not T-Mobile specific, strange it's not there on the xda.
It is possible to lock the screen before you turn the orbit off but it is a bit of a pain in the arse to have to remember to do that every time you turn off the device.
I was hoping for a program that would allow alarms and text message notifications without the screen becoming active.....
True, or you could re-train yourself to only do the screen lock and have the device auto-off in 3 mins or so, and it would be exactly the same.
Personally I find the screen wake up useful.
I can't say I've tried, but what happens if you go to Start - settings- Sounds & Notifications - Notifications
and go through all the text message received etc and untick "Display message on screen"??

this battery status plug-in works on mda compact iii and it has a setting to lock the device on wake up so all you need to do is switch it off to lock it.

So it does!! I didn't notice. This is an excelent piece of software to have anyway, so this is just a double bonus, unless you are unhappy with the 2 screen taps required to de-activate the lock.
Hitting the lock icon requires the stylus whereas the power button does not - much easier and intuitive.
Will have a look into the alerts settings
Thanks for your help
Can't say I've had any difficulty hitting the lock (and definately not the unlock buttons) with my thumb, one handed, but see above for auto locking option, you 100% don't need to get the stylus to unlock.
i auto lock when the screen goes off and unlock with my thumb one handed, easy and intuitive
Hi All
I also posted this message in the blackstone.
This night my HD started to vibrate at midnight and I cannot stop this. I did first al soft reset, removed the last programs which I had installed yesterday, but this does not solve the problem.
I did then a full reset, but no luck. It still keeps vibrating. When I remove the battery and put it back, does not help. Keeps again vibrating.
Just for the information:
I installed yesterday the Singh's Tings HTC TF3D 15 Tabs EN, ammarTF3D tabs v2 [final] and Diamond Saber Installer and after that the NoTopCurtain.
And so, I do not get it stop vibrating...
Anyone has had the same problem?
Kristof
Try hard reset?

Are you saying it vibrates even on Power off ?
All only when power on ?
Try removing all of your PIM data.
What happens if you put it in System and Ringtone Silent mode ?
Yes
Even, when I turn of the device, it keeps vibrating!! When I remove the battery and put it back, It starts again!!
If I put it on silent mode, nothing happens!
I removed the scandisk card, did again hard reset, nothing seems to work!

You say you did a full reset (I guess you meant a Hard Reset), you turned it off, and it doesn't stop. Sounds like a hardware problem to me...
Can't you take it for repair?
It sounds like a loose contact in your HD. If it triggers your device to vibrate then something INSIDE the device (hardware) is broken.
Yes, I had the same problem.
I bought a new HD, it suddenly keeps vibrating just after 5 days.
It's no use to do anything, excpet remove the battery.
Finally, the seller changed a new one to me.
I think it's a hardware problem.
I have my HD set to vibrate as well as make a sound when i receive a new text message. Lately I've noticed that sometimes when i get a message it will vibrate like normal but then continue even after the sound has stopped and keep vibrating. It will stop if i go into the notification settings menu. I don't even change anything and it stops. Weird!!!! Not sure about your situation and cant say that i've experienced that.
Just to inform:
I called the HTC helpdesk and they picked the device up for repair. It can take a few days.
Vibrates Forever

Same here. In the past months, I set my email notification to vibrate. But sometimes when a new message comes, it vibrates forever until I press a button or respond to the notification.

I have the same problem, it´s very annoying when this happens at night.
Sometimes I have another problem with my email notification, my HD mini recieves a new email and it vibrates and plays the ringtone, up until that time everything is ok, but after 1-5 minutes the HD mini vibrates and rings again even I got no new message.
I hope anyone knows how to fix it.
Hi all,
I searched the forums with no luck on any info on this problem. I had this issue suddenly with Juicy's R8 and now today with Mighty's latest WAR rom.
Randomly the screen will wake itself up for no reason. It will be on the charger and not on the charger at times. As well no email or sms is being received. I immediately push the sleep button to turn the screen back off and then about 2 sec. later the screen comes on again a final time and again I have to manually turn it off.
This happens about 2-3 times a day.
Programs I installed:
HD Tweak
Midomi
PPC Personalizer (to device)
SPB News
Audio ParaBoost (to device)
arelas Sliding Sound Complete (to device)
Zenyee Disable HTC Messaging (to device)
Home Tab small icons Colored (to device)
yzyn 6_1_and_6_5_21xxx (to device, adds color to the sms conversations)
Any help would be appreciated!
I have no experiance w/custom roms, but on my sprint tp2 this has happened also. i have noticed it is happening i areas where the phone is swiching from EVDO to 1x or the other way arround. so if your a weak signal area where it my be intermittently going between 1x & 3g you will have the screen turning on constantly. hope this answers you question accurately.
Not using windows live mail on the push setting are you? Mine did this sometimes before i set it to sync every hour rather than 'as items arrive'.
