Don't know how but somehow I've now lost the ability to play video (MP4) files on my SX66. Any thoughts to how to get it back. I had tried to install a MP4 player (PocketTV) but that does not see the files. The files are on a SD chip. Use to play but now they don't
Anyone with some thoughts?

Hello everybody, I am a new Android user. I cannot play any mp3 which play well on my previous Nokia phones and I convert my video files using xilisoft video converter with nexus one's profile but none of the videos were able to play one the phone. Some of my apps disappear when I move them to SD card. Can anybody tell me how to solve their problems? Thank you very much.
Bump.........
So i have been trying allot of ways. but i cant seem to find what files the build in media player CAN play.
does any one have the information?
cuz some MP4 and H.264 dont work.
I love how video looks on the kindle fire!
Most of my ripped movies in my "Movies" network share play, but VOBs don't (DVD MPEG). MX Video player and ArcMedia player claim to play VOBs, but they don't. ArcMedia can access the share but won't play the VOBs. Neither ArcMedia or MX will associate with the VOB extension, so Android doesn't know what player to launch if I access a VOB via network share in a file browser.
Anybody tried playing a ripped DVD with an android device? If you had success, what player did you use?
Has nobody tried or wanted to play ripped DVDs?
Your best bet after ripping them is converting the format if the video is unsupported by android if possible and the only ripping I do with DVD videos is with iTunes and movies

Oh and I'd try to convert to a more common format ex: mp4

VOB files are not really uncommon. That's the format of every DVD.
I use Daroon Player to play VOBs that are locally loaded on my Fire. I don't remember if I sideloaded it or not.
ok, i really have the lg optimus L9 from tmobile. but no forum yet for the L9 so here i am. just got the phone and am new to andriod, have ice cream.
just want to play a frickin mp3 and avi files that are on the sd card. if i use file manager and naviagate to avi video, i see a small thumbnail. but when i try to click it i get 'try again after scanning media file'. no idea how to scan media files. navigate to mp3 and click get a choice of google play music or music player. music player gives me again "try again after scanning media files'. now all of a sudden the google media works for my mp3 - no idea why.
guess i am trying to understand how to scan media files. and which program will use the library, google play music or music player. and how can i play video. i am ok with even purchasing a player as i really like to play just about any format without having to convert. what is the player out there that will play the most formats?
thanks
For media searching use the SD Sync app from market. Works well.
where is the best place to go to download apps?
Google Play ofcourse
ok. guess i am trying to figure for now
1) if i copy a media file to my storage card, how can i play it right away, without having to update my whole library. i want to download, point an applicaiton to it an play it.
2) what is the video player that can play the most formats?
1)Open the file with file manager. I prefer the root explorer.
2)LG stock player supports everything, at least no problems even with .mkv packed files.
Oh, you got the L9. Not sure about yours but must be same i think
Also if the file was downloaded from web, you can select/open in directly in the download manager.
Just Figured this out M'Self
OK, just had same issue (same 'system message') trying to watch videos using the built-in Video Player. Maybe it was the first time I used it, but I was actually trying to figure out how to use the new 'Q-Slide' feature to watch a video while doing something else on the phone.
I actually pulled up the manual PDF (downloaded from LG, here), then <CTRL+F> (searched the document for similar system mssgs), and got a 'hit' on Page 49 of the OEM manual (my search, BTW, was 'media files'--'scan for' never found it).
You have to let the system do this for the 'FileShare' app also (I'm sure it's about 'indexing'), so I did, and it worked.
Not so much a 'system error', as a little 'systemic quirk' (much like a cosmic queef)
See attached JPG.
Hi All,
I did a search and can't find an answer.
First off, I'm running stock build JZ054K with stock kernel and modem. I'm rooted and all, just decided to install stock stuff for now. Of course that's 4.1.2.
When I transfer video files to the phone memory or the SD card, I'm having trouble getting them to play back. I've tried MP4, AVI, Wave and have also let the phone convert them as they transfer. The AVI won't play at all, it just says this file won't play. The wave will but has terrible quality. The MP4 is really finicky. Sometimes they will transfer and play part way through, sometimes all the way and sometimes not at all. Could it be the stock video player? I also have MX player but it doesn't seem to do much better. In fact it general does worse.
Should I let the videos convert or should I just transfer them as is. I've even had videos I took with the phone that didn't want to play.
Any ideas?
Thanks.
When transferring files to your phone make sure to not convert... Download (and there are many more apps but my favorites are) MXplayer or DicePlayer and watch the videos through that... Not only are there options within each players settings that allow you to adjust playback options for optimization but then at least you don't have to convert files (a copy of a copy is quite like the original, etc)
