Hi all,
Firstly I would like to thank the moderators for providing such a great site.
Secondly I am hoping someone can give a real answer to my question.
I have an XDA Orbit phone with German (GER) ROM v1.25.207.1. I would simply like to change this ROM to an English (ENG) version, keeping all the same features I have (eg WIFI, GPS), just using the english language.
I have seen many posts about upgrading the ROM to a generic one, which as I understand it means I have to goto imeicheck.co.uk to purchase an unlock code. This then allows me to load a non-orbit ROM onto the orbit (eg generic Artemis ROM)
What I would like to do however is load an ENGLISH Orbit ROM onto my GERMAN orbit. I don't think I need to do the imeicheck.co.uk routine to load an Orbit ROM.
The problem I have is that I cannot find an english ROM for the orbit on any sites?. I am wondering firstly if anyone knows where I can download an english ROM for the Orbit. Secondly if no one has an english ROM, does anyone know if it is possible to dump the english ROM off an existing english handset if I find one?.
I am happy to upload this ROM for all the other users of the site. I think this is a common problem but very difficult to find a straight answer of what my options are to get english language on this device.
Thanks, Towelie.
rom location
tovelie:
try to use local ftp server to get required ROM.
_ftp://xda:[email protected]
it is in /Artemis/Shipped_Complete_Updates foder.
the ROM you are looking for is:
ARTE_DOPODAU_12570702_026990_WWE_SHIP.exe
there are few remarks. it is unlikely you will be able to re-flash your device, if it is not already CID unlocked.
CID unlock is available from imei-check.com.
please keep in mind that even with CID unlocked device there are problems discovered on Orbit, it still does not flash with another ROM.
hi fdp24,
thanks for your reply.
I assume from this you are saying that I can load the dopod firmware on the above ftp if I CID unlock, but if I do this there are problems with this firmware and the orbit anyway?
my understanding is that the CID unlock basically stops the phone checking the "vendor id" of the firmware (ROM) so you can load a generic firmware on it instead. I am hoping I can get an orbit firmware so I can just load it without the need for CID.
from further reading it would seem it may not be possible to dump the firmware/ROM from the handset as the commands to do this are now protected with a password?
Does anyone at all have an english firmware specifically for orbit? Is it possible to download this from o2?.
Thanks, Towelie.

Hello Everyone,
I just joined this forum as i was able to buy a QTEk with the following details:
Version de ROM : 1.13.74 ESN
Version de Movil : 1.04.02
Version Protocolo : 42.37.P8
Version de ExtROM : 1.13.169 ESN
As I am more fluent in English than Spanish, I wanted to upgrade my ROM to English, but also I would need to Backup the ROM of the spanish version so if there are problems with the phone, I can flash it back to the original manufacturer installed ROM.
What program do I need to Backup the ROM (and restore in the future) before I start fiddling?
Also, I heard that I can erase Extended ROM. As of now, what can I use the space that I will gain from erasing the contents of the Extended ROM?
Also one thing i noticed is that some of the keys have rub marks coming from the upper part of the universal (the screen) I think they touch eachother when it is colsed. Is this a factory defect?
Finally, I don't know where to register and get support for my QTEK. Where do you download/search for patches? Where do I register this device? Should I have gotten an i-mate instead?
Thanks in advance for all your comments, guys.
Jorge
GUYS?!?
Hello Anybody out there?
I have posted this message 2 weeks ago, a few views but no answers so I'll go ahead and update you on what's happened:
Thanks to BUZZ_LIGHTYEAR I was able to RAW DUMP my Spanish ROM to a File which I exchanged for a decoded nk.nbf file from an unpacked English ROM Update (the QTEK WWE) then I encoded the RAW file so now I have a new nk.nbf file which i pressume is the Spanish verion.
I'm not sure if it'll make a difference that the rest of the files are in English but will this update any UNIVERSAL to the Spanish verion? Anybody needs Spanish ROM and is willing to test this out? I can send you the Files needed? If it doesn't work you just have to flash back to the English. I haven't tested it yet because my device is originally Spanish so I have no fallback ROM if it doesn't work. But I followed BUZZ's instructions and I don't think it's gonna cause a problem.
Hmm,
seems this topic is very boring to everybody here, oh well....
Anybody has similar case of rubbed-out keys on the keyboard?
Just to show that there are persons available reading and having an opinion
Left and right of my keyboard, a little lower then the keys itself there are two outstanding rubber ? pads ? protecting the display from touching the keyboard, be it in portrait or landscape mode. So no, I do not have this problem.
Ruud
Mine have the rubber stuff too, Maybe i have them a little low... Could I possibly get a replacement? I don't think this can be considered wear-and-tear as i only had my phone for 1 month..... And the "damage" was caused by open/closing of the phone. Not using of the keyboard.
I would say certainly worth a try.
Good luck.
Ruud
i need spanish rom
I bought my qtek 9000 from O2 (UK) by ebay, it works great, but i need spanish software, i'd like to probe MoviStar, vodafone (if available) and free Spanish versions. I also need instructions or manual, i flashed a xda2 once, but i can't remember how i did, i think i put it in a special test mode. Thanks.
I have posted the QTEK Spanish ROM in the uploads section. Please look for it. Both OS and Extended ROM are there.
Just download the OS, and run the "noID" file to upgrade your QTEK to Spanish. Just remember that also the keyboard will be configured to Spanish (which has the "Ñ" character) so you have to re-map it back to whatever keyboard you have. You can search how to do this in the forums.
Just download the 2 said files, then you can upgrade your ROM. These ROM's are dated OCTOBER 2005
what do i need for backuping my system to a sdcard?
Im not sure. I backed-up to my PC. I think you can search here for grab_it program that dumps to SD card but i'm not sure it will work for WM5 or Universal
Well, how did you backup system to your pc?
and thanks again.
Actually, what i backed up was my OS nad ExtendedROM. No personal customizations.
You can see in my second post that i was able to do it thru steps i saw at BUZZDEV.NET thanks to buzz-lightyear.
It's under "how to d2s dump" you can follow my story there on how to backup ROM. Esentially it copies your operating system to a file on your PC which you can then install on another device after encoding/decoding.
I have posted my Spanish QTEK ROM on the FTP site so you can change your QTEK to spanish if you want.
What's your QTEK ROM version? all details please:
ROM Version
ROM Date
Protocol Version
Radio Version
Extended ROM Version

Greetings! I am new here and I recently bought an xda exec here in china. Problem is, the exec was loaded with a chinese rom because it was intended for chinese users so i asked the seller to make it in english. It seemed they had a problem with changing the rom, Im not really sure coz i cant understand half of what theyre saying. After a long wait, I was given an exec with a dopod rom.
Now having a different rom from the supposed manufacturer's one, it seems my unit has a few errors, for example im frequently having a sddaemon (which i found out has something to do with the contacts list) and sddialer (which i think has something to do with voice dialing) errors. Another thing I have a problem with is, the boot screen, since it was loaded with a dopod rom, it says "dopod enjoy mobility" at the boot screen. I feel kinda uneasy with it, simply put, i dont like it.
Also, I think my problems would be solved by flashing a different rom, but im not sure what to use tho. Actually, I want to use a 'proper' o2 rom because i like to have the boot screen back to o2. Yet, it seems everyone is suggesting the JasJar rom, do you think i should use the JasJar rom? If so, How can i change the boot screen to the o2 one?
For anyone who can help, Advice on how to address my problems is very much appreciated. I tried searching the forums but i cant seem to get how the search function working. I humbly ask guidance and advice to my problems and a proper redirection is highly appreciated. thanks in advance!
also..
Also, I'm also considering upgrading to WM6. Is it advisable to upgrade to WM6?
WM6 has a better looking than WM5, and most of the software are newer.
If you want stable, you can use WM5, most of the new ROM are all for the WM6, I am also a user in China, I am now using WM6 with a chinese language supporting package.
How unstable is wm6? Does wm6 have features or anything to offset the instability?
@XingYun: are you using an english rom with chinese text support or is your rom purely chinese? Im thinking of copying your setup, would you advise it?
BTW, my Device information says the ff:
ROM version: 1.30.111 WWE
ROM date: 04/06/06
Radio Version: 1.04.02
Protocol Version: 42.37.P8
ExtROM version: 1.13.188 WWE
Any more help and advice is very welcome
Later builds of WM6 for Universal isn't really unstable. It's actually better. There's only one problem. NO VIDEO CALL.
You can get the latest WM5 ROM here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=286036
You can get the latest WM6 Crossbow ROM here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=303685
Use the Search facility... It really helps.
Ok, ive decided to upgrade to wm6. Since I want to have an o2 boot screen, should i use the o2 rom from the jwright link? Will it be compatible with my unit even tho I am running a dopod rom? All I need to do is follow the directions from the wiki :
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/inde...tion On How To Upgrade with Bootloader method
Am I correct? Sorry for sounding like a n00b, but I'm quite scared of making a mistake, so I want to be extra sure and extra careful. Advice and help is appreciated. thx.
I am using a English ROM with Chinese language support, and YouYuan text format, my machine infomation is like this:
ROM version: 2.05.00 WWE
ROM date: 04/09/07
Radio version:1.15.00
This is the ROM I am using:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=305512
Finally upgraded with Jwright wm6 rom, works fine now, thx everyone.
Hi, HProvider
Could you tell me where did you find the chinese language support package?
Mine does not work well with the Jwright ROM.
Thanks!
Hi there! Can anyone tell me what I should to to change the language of the phone. It's german now and i would like to change it to english. And also, is there a way to remove all the O2 stuff from the menus?
Thanks
If you simply want the original English O2 WM5 setup then:
Download the files on this thread and follow the instructions to temporarily CID unlock the device: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=311403 WARNING this may not work with Windows Vista, use Windows XP!
Download and run the original O2 ROM installer from post 13 on this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=314866&page=2
Thanks MaskedMarauder... Can you please tell me which programs I need on my PC to do all of this? Do I need anything except the stuff from the original CD? Also can I use this ? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=318835
You don't need the CD as long as you already have the latest version of Activesync installed, just the CID unlocker (download from the link I gave above) and a ROM image to flash. The B&B 3.7 will work fine if that is what you want.
Hi I did everything that was said in the forum but at the end of the update, there was an error which said that the model of the phone is not suitable or something... Can you please provide me with a more easy and clearly explained way of changing the language of the Windows Mobile on my XDA Orbit.
Thank you
My wife has just got an Orange SPV M650 and I need to change the language from French to English for her so she can use it properly (French is a problem and she thought she could change the language when she bought it). Is this possible? After a lengthy call to Orange France today, they tell me it should be possible but that I need to download the rom in English. But they couldn't tell me where to find the software to do this however...So far I have not had any luck. On other forums, it has been suggested that this just won't be possible.
Any help would be much appreciated!!
Thanks very much.
if you change the rom, you have plenty to choose from. what would you like? windows mobile 5 or 6? the official rom? or something "cooked" (which has more features)?
you are in the right place here. just search through the various threads about roms. be aware that some french spv m650 users had problems with gps once the upgraded to WM6. but there is a patch for that...

i've had that same problem before, i bought my spv m650 and thought it would be easy to change the language to english. i also tried to ask france telecom, but they're just a useless bunch of people. good thing i discovered this forum.
if you want, you can send me a private message and i could send the english roms that i used, and also the solution for the gps problem that one of the members in this forum made.
Hello,
I am using my bosses login as he has asked me to sort out his wife's phone for him.
Redski very very kindly sent me all the files that I would need to change the SPV M650 to English WM6 from the French (complete with the fixes for the gps).
Not owning a pda phone type thing myself this is all new territory for me. And a little scarey!!! If I turn the phone into a brick (do you like how I am learning the language?!)...well it doesn't bear thinking about as it's not my new toy.
Anyway, following the excellent instructions provided by redski I managed to use the uspl file to cid unlock the phone. I then tried to load the wm6 software redski sent me onto the phone. I keep getting an error message - the dos screen goes through the initializing stages and then the error message says can't find the file. So I thought I would look on this excellent website for more clues on wm6 software for this phone as I was loathe to keep bothering redski or anyone else for that matter.
But I have to admit defeat now and ask for more help please!
(I promise I have trawled through the threads looking for clues, even the excellent complete idiot's guide which is clear - it is the software to download I need guidance with).
I saw a download available on this site based on o2 german WM6. Is that the one to use? I think it was bepe's download??
I am using activesync correctly by the way and am only connecting as a guest just in case this makes a difference.
I am not stupid (honest!) just a little lost and confused so any help would be much appreciated from anyone who has the time to advise a newbie like me!!!
Thanks v much Emma
you can use any english ROM you like, i don't know why the one i sent didn't work, but have you tried looking through the threads that i sent you? you can also look through the WIKI page of artemis, and look for available english roms to download.
good luck!
Hi Redski
Just wanted to thank you again for your help. Just been able to download Meschle's new WM6 rom - all seems fine. Although I guess I may still need to download those gps fixes you sent me?
Thanks again!
Hi everyone,
I'm looking for someone who already managed to upgrade a german T-Mobile MDA compact III to WM6. Has anyone experiences with this? It's my business phone and I don't want to break it.
1. Is there any chance to reflash the old WM5 ROM if something goes wrong?
2. How can I save the old ROM!?
3. Do I need to setup any regional settings if I use the O2 ROM for example?
Thanks for all answers!

You shurely can use the O2 ROM. Regional settings? You can change the regional settings in the ROM, but you don´t neet to if you use the german version of the O2 ROM.
There is a way to make a backup of your curent ROM to a storagecard. Use the search..
You should make a backup of your pim (contacts, tasks, calendar etc.) with PPCPimBackup because you can restor them with thiis program, but not with SPB Backup..
Is your phone sim- or netlocked? Normally the german tmob devices are..
IMPORTANT: You can update - but before you flash your rom with any new os (like the O2) do the "uspl" (CID Unlock) first!
Look here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=308242
I have updated mine. Everything works fine, but the menues are in English.
The phone must be CID unlocked then you can flash any ROM you like. You can also find a CAB for T9 input in German.
Ciao
Thanks a lot guys for all the information. I'll report later if it worked...
Success
Thanks for all your information!
Everything worked fine.
At first I tried to make an backup, but I was not really successful, see here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=312871&page=5
But it didn't matter because I found a german wm5 rom for t-mobile:
XDA-DEV FTP -> "Uploads/Upload/Official MDA Compact III ROM/MDA Compact III German.exe"
So here is a conclusion for all noobs, like me:
1. Run USPL, get it here and read all the stuff: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=311403
2. Patch any ROM you like, for example one of those: http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=362 or get one on the xda-dev ftp
I tried three or four of the ROMs from the forum, it was possible to flash them all, but I had to try it twice to "remove" the german O2 ROM (flash another ROM over the O2), but maybe I did something wrong in the first place.
What I would finally like is a T-Mobile branded german WM6 ROM. If anyone could give me some tipps where to start, I would appreciate it. I think it should be possible to extract the german O2 WM6 OS and somehow mix it with the T-Mobile stuff from the WM5 ROM. I know there is a lot information here on the forum, but any hint is nevertheless very appreciated
