hey all universal lovers
which 1 is best right now......
HELMI AUK3.5 v1.3
or
IVAN AUK3.5 Test2
wll i hav seen one universal with crossbow loaded is it out ....if yes can guide me to it
thanks guys..
I think Helmi's has a few extra added tools, and Ivan's is vanilla.
As for crossbow, yes, some people have it as the Universal was the reference model, but it's only supposed to be Microsoft partners that have it, and they would get into trouble for letting other people have it.
I'm sure once it's out publically on new devices, it will be available on the Universal also.
this new roms causes my universal to power-off with no reason.
And it just came to life again if I take out the battery, put it on again and press the power button...
strange... :\

I believe you man,
I got the same problem
so I went back to AKU2 till officiall Rom come
The problem i've had with Helmi's ROM is that when i turn the unit off, it closes applications and any documents i was working on at the time but hadn't saved would be lost.
I just tried to move to Ivan's to see if i get the same problem with his, but have other issues... (not related to the ROM see "not even stuck in bootloader" thread.
Generally though, i thought that the benefits of Helmi's ROM outweighed the problems.
How different is AKU3.5 to Crossbow WM6 Anyway? What are the headline items?
Hi,
i wanted to install Helmi's 1.3.1 ROM, but it is only about 23 MB.
It also gives me an error message when I try to unzip it with Winrar (it says that the file is corrupt...)
Thanks for your help...
The small HELMI size rom was in the process of being uploaded to the ftp if you look at the size now its larger and finished. The upload the reason why you got the corrupt rar error was because you downloaded what was their before the finished upload. So you only got part of the file. Has anyone looked into the settings/remove/programs I have been installing software and its empty so I don't know how to remove some programs with the HELMI AUK3.5 release. Other then that this is my only problem with it I love it.

OMG! if what you say means what i think it does ( ie .. i can upgrade my xda2i without country id error) then my friend... YOU RULE!
if not then .. sadly.. were back to square 1
double omg !!! it gives country id error...
next step .. how do i get past that little hurdle??

I assume it ain't 2005!

Hi. Will these work on an O2 XDA IIi (English) ?
I need to upgrade mine to see if I can make the bluetooth work better, its very crackly with the default rom (from the o2 website I am using)
Merlin
I can't download past 32.5MB...tried twice now.
Anyone else had similar problems?
Ant
What rom is this? WM5? Dont think so. So why would they release an older rom ???
hi
this is just 2003SE rom .. but an updated one.. i find it more stable and gsm signals are stronger ....
havent tried bluetooth yet but the it seems to have the same version as xda2i rom .. however the quality of BT is often related to the radio rom aswell which in this pda2 rom is of higher build..
go ahead try the rom and share your experiences here
Installed it on my O2 XDA IIi. All went well and it looks like its fine.
Will post any observations later...
M
yeah its been a whole day that ive ran the new rom.. i havent had a single hang on the device...
though there is one thing that bothers me... this rom and ext rom doesnt have a antivirus that the retail pda2 had when i saw it in the shop...
could it be that our pd2 rom donwloaded from the clubimate site is different than the one on retail models...
may be crazzy can tell us whether his retail pda2 has that antivirus app or not.. if so is it in the ce rom or ext rom (his extended rom posted on xda ftp doesnt have it)
will this work on a sx66?
hakushox, the SX66 is a BLUE ANGEL, not an Alpine.

I'll try it today and see how it goes.
Has anyone tried this and then successfully gone back to the o2 rom?

Installed, working fine so far.
Looks to have improved the Auto camera setting as well, it actually adjusts now and doesn't look dark in all conditions!
Ant
hi
yeah the first time the utility gets you into bootloader mode and gives the error ... the second time (without disconnecting the device) running the utility is succesful...
what you have to do before that is... run the pda2 rom intact then look for the *.nbf files in the temp folder.. copy everything in that folder to another folder of your liking.. copy the mdaupgrade_no id utility to that same folder and run twice from there
All still working fine, except for a slight issue with viewing pictures.
I click on a jpg image, "Album" appears at the top of the screen as though it's just taking a short while to run, then soft resets.
Anyone else?
Ant
no that album thingie is fine with me.. still no prob..
Well ive tried to download this a few times now and i cannot seem to complete the download
Im interested to see if this update is any good.
Hello there, yes... I'm a n00b when it comes to ROM upgrades.
I'm relatively experienced when it comes to computers and PDA's, but browsing through this forum, I have to admin, I'm lost...
I have an Orange M5000, locked to Orange (I think). Can anyone give me some simple steps of what I should do to upgrade to the latest and fastest ROM version? (I'm currently on 1.30.90 - R1.09.00).
Help would be much appreciated.
**EDIT** Okay, so the instructions are these ones right -
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/inde...tion On How To Upgrade with Bootloader method
But what ROM should I be using? Thanks.
You might want to try the link at
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Universal_Upgrades
at Orange UK for the proper way of upgrading to the official ROM, which is an EXE file. That's the easiest.
If you want to get going with the newest ROM's (and are prepared to take the associated risks!) then my recommendation for the process you should follow is this...
First, download the tool at: http://www.buzzdev.net/index.php?option=com_remository&Itemid=100&func=fileinfo&id=288
Follow the instructions in the .rar file. This will SIM unlock your M5000 so that you can use any SIM card in it, but also makes your M5000 "SuperCID" - Meaning that you can upgrade to ANY HTC Universal ROM (QTek, O2, imate, etc, etc) without all the hassle!
Then:
1) Download whichever ROM you're interested in
2) Put your M5000 in bootloader mode (by holding the Backlight and Power buttons while poking the reset button).
3) Connect your USB cable to your phone and PC
4) From your downloaded (and extracted) ROM archive you need to run "MaUpgradeUt_noID.exe" or "ROMUpgradeUt.exe" - whichever was included - it won't matter because your device is "SuperCID" so you wont get any of the Country or Device errors that people often complain about.
Wait for 5 minutes while it all ticks along, do a hard reset, and you're all done!
You may find that your device still installs a load of unneeded cab files after the initial setup. This is because of the "Extended Rom" area where manufacturers put all of their own modifications.
You can use the tool found here: http://www.buzzdev.net/index.php?option=com_remository&Itemid=100&func=fileinfo&id=205 to unlock the "Extended ROM" and the cab files found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=985428&postcount=373 to make it visible within File Explorer.
Then you can delete any (or every) file that's in there. I'd strongly recommend deleting everything if you'll be trying out an AKU3.X or WM6 ROM.
Okay, but I think Orange are a bit behind things...
I was about to try 2.04 PDAVIET UNI PRO. Is this a bad idea for me?
**EDIT** To the second reply, thanks, I'll give that a go
Basically, don't try using any Crossbow ROMs if you need your device for anything important. They're far too flakey at the moment (even the half decent ones).
Go for an AKU3.3 ROM for stability and speed (or possibly AKU3.5 - though they're a little bit buggier).
Crossbow ROMs will get better. Come back for that in a month or two (or three....four.....)
I wouldn't say I do use it for anything important... 1 or 2 calls a day (not business) SatNav once or twice a month. The calendar and ListPro are probably the most used things on my PDA...
Speed is what's annoying me at the moment though. It takes so long to redraw the screen when I spin it for example.
Where can I find an AKU3.3 download then?
Sorry, work tore me away from the forum for a while...
Go here: ftp://xda:[email protected]/Universal/Cooked_ROMs/
There are four folders in there where you'll find a mixture of AKU3.2, 3.3, and 3.5 ROMs by Helmi, Ivan, JWright, and Indra. Personally, I like stripped down ROM's so my own favourite is Helmi's V1.3.1 ROM.
There are plenty of other opinions if you look at the related threads though...
Helmi: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=284887
Indra: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=285488
Ivan: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=287270
JWright: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=279258
If you have a look at the first (and possibly second) post in each of those threads, you can see what's in the ROM and what isn't. Take your pick. As far as speed goes, you will find all of them are noticably faster than any of the official Orange ROMs.
I've actually successfully installed WM6. It's a lot quicker than WM5, so I'm happy
Yep, WM6 is a lot faster than the official WM5 ROM's.
The WM5 "AKU3.X" ROM's are even faster though and - for now at least - generally less buggy...
Looking at how you say you use your phone, you shouldn't find too much to worry about with WM6 - even this early on (and it looks nicer!).
Glad it went ok for you!
Sub69, Thanks, thanks, thanks!!! My problem was solved with the backlight + power + hard reset... A million thanks friend.
Looking to become a regular member here. With a little time hope I can contribute something meaningful as well
Hi,
Just updated my phone with the new Aus wm6 image, however the 3 Aust customisation didn't auto install as last time I upgraded a rom.
Can anyone tell me what files I should run in the Ext rom to get it going? Or is this the issue that was vaguley mentioned about this rom?
THanks
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=303046
fantastic. Thanks!!
It didn't appear to do anything. However I added all the basic settings myself.
Does anyone know what files to point the HTC homeplug to, in order to have the shortcuts that were there before?
Or a cab that will do it?
Cheers
to solve this we need someone with the official AUS WM6 rom on to unhide the extended rom and post the files in there to rapidshare or something like that......
ANYONE? please?

I can try doing it if it won't root my phone. So - detailed instructions would be appreciated
here is the mount Ext ROM file- install the cab on your phone and then you will be able to see the extended rom and the files in it in your file explorer....... then just copy and paste onto your desktop........ zip all files together and post or on rapid share or similar.....or post each file singly in a post for each file......
thanks
Can someone please extract the extended ROM from the Aust. WM6 version and post to rapidshare or somewhere please?
Thanks

Have HARD and SOFT reset a couple of time and all of a sudden it has run the 3 setup stuff ie now can connect and have the 3 plug in ie ebay and orb just thought i would keep people up to date
Here is another link to the D810 ANZ WM6 Extended_ROM:

Hi Guys, I'm a bit confused. I thought I d/loaded the ANZ WM6 ROM from rapidshare. But there was no 3 setting or speicifc icons. Is that what people are experiencing here as well?
whats confusing me is the fact MontAlbert is asking someone with ANZ WM6 to share the extrom.... Or did I grab the wrong ROM? I'm pretty sure its right because its got the 1.46.30.11 radio.
so... should I grab the EXTENDED ROM from the link above and try again?

Interesting!!! maybe the extended ROM needs to be unhidden before it will work!! why is that? Cool though... anyone else from oz tried this?
how do you hard and soft reset?
geez that sound like a real stupid question but I just cant work out what is what
Hard Reset And Soft Reset
Soft Reset Stylus in hole in bottom
Hard Reset Need to be a monkey press the right and left softkeys at the same time stylus in the softreset hole and then follow instruction on screen
Ok.
After messing around a bit, I found that the 3 stuff is still in the extended rom, just doesn't auto run. So I ran all the cabs in there and after a reboot, there were my shortcuts etc.
The only one I can see registered in the remove programs is one called "my connect" so this might be the one to solve everyones problem.
I did the same thing earlier today and can confirm that the 3 settings all seems to be there.
Also I was getting a "connecting modem has disconnected" message before when I try to connect to the three.net.au web page. This is now fixed.

Haven't tried it but seems to be a working WM6 ROM. I believe it was based on the official T-Mobile ROM with customizations.
Downloading it right now and will flash later. Care to flash anyone?
Server seems to be soooo slow, running at 20kbps..
ive downloaded it...i get error 202...connection....im using vista...dont know wat to do from here...
File dates look too old to be a new version... the NBH file is from the 2 of April - that supports the TMobile ROM theory Looks like we'll have to keep on waiting. Although maybe we will be rewarded within the next two weeks
ok i got passes error 202 now i get invalid update tool
If its just an update of the T-Mobile, then will it be any good?
Please let us know if you manage to flash it?
uccellino: What do you mean, we'll be rewarded in 2 weeks?
I'm hoping that the official HTC release of WM6 for the s620 comes out within two weeks. I've heard rumours of it coming August 17 and sometime in September - I'm not sure what to think. In anycase, didn't HTC take over the Dopod brand, making it a bit silly for Dopod devices to get an update before HTC ones?
Well, that might be silly, but here's what is sillier.
Officially, HTC has announced an update for the HTC S620. But officially, neither HTC nor Dopod have announced an update for the c720w. In fact, they have said that they won't do it.
So that's why there is excitement over this release, not because its come out earlier.
anyone install this yet?

I downloaded it and I couldn't get it to work and I know my phone is on unlocked for sure, because, first of all I paid the $40 to do it and secondly I successfully installed another ROMs. Besides It's only that T-Mobile ROM and from all I read about it, you are better off not installing it. I finally went with the Russia WM6 ROM on my C720W and it's working great!! I had to make some adjustments, but that's part of the fun! As I said in another thread, I can't see the official HTC WM6 ROM being any better then this Russia ROM. Cheers
So I downloaded this and then unzipped the RAR file, I then tried to run the ROMUpdateUtility.exe, Vista popped up Are you sure you want to run it, I selected Run, and it did absolutely Nothing.
I tried rebooting my computer and running it again and it is the same thing everytime. It doesn't do Anything.
What can I do to make it run?

are you sure it's not working ??? just so you know ... when the phone is app unlocked, you would still get a prompt everytime regarding "unknown publisher" & you need to confirm by clicking "OK"...etc ( that's normal !! )
to resolved that ... you need to go a step further !
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=315230
... it could also be that you are in need of runtime files and/or .NET framework on your desktop machine ..
I'd also noticed that you mentioned you have a S621 on the other post:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=1431021&postcount=17
what are you doing trying to flash the c720w ROM to a s621 ???
I know that they are the same machine by marketing ... but there are bits that are diffrent internally ... or else why do you think all of us S621 owners not doing this ???.. instead of waiting for HTC to release the WM6 ROM now ... some of us went ahead and installed the "RUSSIAN" leaked version instead
I'll give you an example:
the comming soon HTC TyTN II P4550 (HTC Kaiser 120) -->> US
VS
the comming soon T-Mobile MDA Vario III (HTC Kaiser 120) -->> Germany
they are the same machine like the comparision I gave above ... BUT ... look closely at the specs ... there are some differences ... not really exact now ... is it ??

After trying six or seven WM6.1-based ROMS from three different cookers (19199 and 19209), I'm starting to wonder if there's not something 'seriously' wrong with the WM6.1 base image.
I begins to strike me as some sort of duration-based memory degradation. My experience has been that runtime lasts between 2 and 48 hours before a hard reset is necessary. In my case, I pared my installs down to adding merely my password safe as the only add-on, and still it crashed.
The most interesting pre-crash was going to "Programs" and noticing the number of icon substantially reduced (...and reducing...), and the remaining icons as default program icons.
After about five days of fighting with these and trying different methods of extending runtime, I reloaded an older copy vp3G's 3.0.0 from last summer and haven't had a problem for the past 72 hours. In fact, I had no lock-ups with WM6-based, previously.
I'd be interested in other people's experiences with WM6.1-based ROMs on the Hermes...

i may be wrong, but i think recall reading that flashing back to your stock rom, then flashin to 6.1 may fix some hard reset problems....
as for me, ive used 4 or 5 6.1 roms and havent experienced a hard reset.....my latest and favorite so far is faria's and dr.p's 6.1 rom, been running a week no hard reset...
im usin an at&t branded 8525
i was having a few issues with this but ended up changing radio versions from my standard 1.16 to 1.48.
havent had an issue since doing that.
i had the crash problem also, but after I not install htc cube in any of the wm6.1, everything ok and stable.
problem is with cube in wm6.1 i think.
Faria's is the best so far, but they all have problems to varying extents. Have you tried running Oxios Close apps? That will help you claim back memory and maybe help prevent the need for a hard reset. you can get it here: http://www.oxios.com/memory/

Interesting. I did notice that on some ROM flashes that boot screen retained a previous ROM's splash. That might mean that some ROMs are not including all facets (OS, Radio...Bootloader?) of the complete image. Will give that a shot now that I'm back to a stable WM6.

I had that thought too, but my last ROM didn't include any of the HTC apps, at all, so I think it's some conflict or something lower level. The cube 'is' a resource hog, however...

The resets are always due to hard lockups, and they can be with only Activesync running as an application. I try to keep the number of running apps at a minimum for reasons that are probably fairly obvious to all here...

Im also having the same problem .. all sorts of experiments has been done to test on why WM6.1 crash when I install them .. but 1 thing i noticed that it always hang before softreset that eventually lead to hardreset .. i thought hardware accelerations problem ... so what i do is .. every WM6.1 i changed to 8mbpp .. until now my machine ok.

Flash to stock rom then to wm 6.1... Apparently there is a problem if you flash from big storage rom to wm 6.1(not sure why this is so) but there have been a huge number of people who say this works for them, myself included.... I tried every wm6.1 rom that came out then doing something stupid eflashe stock os. No problems with wm 6.1 since. Also I believe that 19209 is somewhat more stable than versions 19199 or 19202... I'm using PDAViets 19209 rom, just changed to black edition, and have had NO trouble EVER since installing it when it first came out, no soft resets and more importantly, no hard resets... Cheers

Use Shadow CE 6.1's rom .. I have been using it for months, and it is near flawless. Do it, you won't regret it . I've tried everything else .
Fix works...

After trying almost everything to get more than a few hours of runtime out of WM6.1, I followed the above instructions to the letter and WM6.1 has worked for 24 hours now (yes...a new record). I will update in a few days if the Hermes/Faria 6.1 combo continues to function.
One note: I was not able to use Vista to update to Hard-SPL after the Stock AT&T 6.0 ROM re-flash. Each attempt resulted in an updater error on the PC after the handheld entered bootloader mode. Did the same procedure on XP and it worked flawlessly.
Hey. Had the same problems but i solved it with flashing a AT&T Stock Rom first.
Now my Hermes with PDAVIET B&C WM6.1 Rom running like a flash
Without any freezes.

Sorry, but following those instructions does NOT solve my problem. It does for some, but not all.
What works for ME, is to turn off the Storage Card power saving.
