Exploring Internet Cache in WM 2003SE - About xda-developers.com

How do i explorer to and save files in the IE cache on my PDA2K with 2003 SE installed.
I can find folders called Temp internet files and www, but they are always empty even with Show All Files selected.
Where is the cache hidden, I just cant find it
Searches have brought up nothing but how to clear the cache, not view it

WM6 Registry Hacks (Different to WM5)

Hi guys,
I've been scouring the net and these forums for about 3 days trying to find the registry hack to change the default location of the 'My Documents' folder to my storage card as the reg key normally used (as per the wiki) under WM5 doesnt exist. I also want to do the same with the default ringtone location, changing it to 'My Ringtones' located in the 'My Documents' folder instead of '/windows/rings'.
Maybe we could use this thread to post known WM6 reg hacks that are different to the method used for WM5 which could be of some use to members, including myself, and hoping I get the answer to the ones I mentioned above,
Feel free to add reg hack queries, and any hacks you know of that are WM6 specific.
Enjoy your day,
Neil.
Nobody?
I noticed the same a while back, but since WM6 is not technically even out there, and if it is in very little numbers. Us here included, it might take a little while before we start seeing a load of hacks.

Has anyone found a solution for this yet. My Documents sync path to Storage card
Why don't you just try creating the registry key referenced for WM5? If it doesn't work, you can always delete it...
Guys,
just creating the keys work like a charm
TyTn with black 2.0 was used to test.
Doesn't work for me
I tried creating the hacks as per this thread:
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=WM5_Tweaks_Other
But it doesn't work for me - anyone have any ideas?
Found a way to move My Documents ... BUT ...
Found this on:

Change the location of My Documents to the SD Card.
This one is complicated but possible. I had to play around with this one for a while trying and failing with several methods, succeeding with this one. The order in which you do this is essential.
Please ensure that your SD card and My Documents are backed up. It is recommended that you do this on a fresh install of your ROM. This cleared out my “My Documents” folder but I was able to restore it.
1. Reset your device
2. Synchronise your device with your PC
3. Navigate to
“HKLM\System\StorageManager\Profiles\SDMemory“
4. Change the “Folder” key to “My Documents”
5. Rename your original “My Documents” folder to “My Docs”. This is a crucial step, but it does not matter what you name it.
6. Power off and reset your device.
7. Sync your Device
You should see in “File Explorer that your “My Documents” folder has an SD card icon next to it.
Copy your files back into your My Documents.

Only problem with doing this on an already set up system is that if you have anything installed to your Storage Card, then all the links become invalid - you can resolve this by using Resco Explorer / Total Commander to reset all of the links.
Haven't tried to install any apps after doing this, would be interested in hearing if it still installs there like normal - decided to reset the name to Storage Card, rather than have to remake 200+ links to all the apps / games that are on there - think I'll wait until I remake the system next time!

Update
Worth doing ... but only on a new install
Backed up my system, then had a go at this - spent an hour in front of the telly changing all the links over to the new addresses, etc.
All seems to work, but a load of little bugs started to occur - all related to where certain software is located, and files that have been installed, and where, etc.
No issues related to the system in general, but I think this method would be best used if you are doing a brand new install - don't even install the EXTROM before you do it and you'll have no problems at all, and no more issuses with the build up of crap on your system. Just don't think it's feasible on an existing build, to many hidden links and file misplacements can occur.
Still - if you backup first, it's worth a try!

Sorry for digging this up but... will this workaround let you sync with the 'my documents' on the storage card? I'm trying to get this to work but numerous threads say that wm6 can only sync to the my documents on the phone memory.
It can just manage its own my documents. Not the My Documents folder of M$ Windows. So what ever you want to add or update do it there as well.
When you will select the settings for Sync, select files and it will make a shortcut on your desktop for the folder of my documents of your device that is available on your PC also.
I found a simple solution on the net
I found this simple solution on the net:
1. Create a subfolder called "My Documents" in your Storage Card folder.
2. Copy the contents of \My Documents to \Storage Card\My Documents
3. Delete \My Documents
4. Open a text editor and paste the following text into a new document: 33#"\Storage Card\My Documents"
5. Save this as "My Documents.lnk"
6. Copy this to the root of your WM6 device

Relocation of Pocket IE cache to storage card

I am running the LVSW 3.30.2.1 version of WM6. The hack for WM5 in the wiki (http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index...ermes_Registry) does not work in this version. Does anyone know how to relocate the IE cache to a storage card in WM6?
Thanks!
try sktools or pocketmechenic. it works for universal running wm6
This hack from http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Hermes_Registry (1/2 way down the page) does work for Hermes variants on WM5/WM6 such as Cingular/The New AT&T/AT&T 8525 (my backup phone) and Softbank X01HT (my primary phone) (I made a registry entry for it but of course, I use my login name such as \Storage Card\LoginName\Profiles\Temporary Internet Files, etc).:
PocketIE Cache in storage card
Create these folders:
\Storage Card\Pocket IE\Temporary Internet Files
\Storage Card\Pocket IE\Cookies
\Storage Card\Pocket IE\History
Add the following registry keys, string data type:
[HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Shell Folders]
"Cache"="\Storage Card\Pocket IE\Temporary Internet Files"
"Cookies"="\Storage Card\Pocket IE\Cookies"
"History"="\Storage Card\Pocket IE\History"
You then would need to do soft-reset to get the new folders to work.

PIE on Storage Card
Custel's WM6 has HTCustom (and other's like Pimp My Black) have options to change the location of PIE cache to the MicroSD card.
Just run HTCustom
Select the Pocket IE tab
and choose SD Card (or Main Memory)
Save will SoftReset your device
Be careful with the D-Pad option on the same screen. Some people don't like the way that changes the behavior of PIE as well as message reading.

Thanks, crazynut. The trick is in the registry string. This ROM includes reg strings as in the wiki and your reply, with the default path "\windows\Profiles\guest\*" I verified that that is the location where the cache files were stored and then tried changing that to "storage card\Profiles\guest\*" and modifying folder names on the storage card to match followed with a soft reboot. It didn't work, either. Could you spell out what you did in more detail?

N00b download one of the tweak tools either pimp my black V2.0 or Htcusom 1.4 and it will set the reg for you and your done.... no reg hacks no nothing just some clicking on the screen...
It works as in the wiki. I am not sure what Registry Editor you are using. You should be able to use Total Commander or a similiar product. I think a lot of people like PHM Registry Editor. I use Kilmist Registry Editor since I got my company to pay for it.
That being said, AustinSync said in another post that you can use one of the tweaking tools to click the location to the storage card (my experiencde with doing that tells me that they just do not let you choose which folder on the storage card).
Good luck.
Cheers

Storage Memory Clean

Hi everybody,
Can somebody tell me how to clean the Storage Memory?
When in Start->Settings->System->Memory there are 3 tabs. In the Main tab it shows Memory: Storage and Program
My Program is OK, but my Storage is very low on free space. Dispite I have a 2GB microSD storage card inserted and installed all my programs onto it.
How can I see what programs or which files use this Storage memory (Total Capacity: 37.63MB on arte100) and how to clean this up? (Delete some files)
I have used Pocket Mechanic Pro and run all kinds off applications to free space but it doesn't seem to clear much of this internal "Storage Memory".
When you click on the bottom in the Memory screen in Start->Settings->System->Memory there's: "Find large files using storage memory". If I click here and run a search it finds some files but when I search for them in Respo Explorer it shows the files are stored on the SD card. So these can't be the files that fill up the internal "Storage Memory".
All happened because I downloaded a movieclip from the internet and when it asked me to Open it or Save As, I choose open it and my free space decreased dramatically. Is there a registry hack to change the location of where Internet Explorer saves its opening downloaded items? (I already changed the location of Temporary Internet Files, Cookies, History to the SD card),,,,later it seemed to have stored the movieclip in \My documents instead of \Storage Card\My Documents. So I need to hack the registry to change the location \My Documents into \Storage Card\My Documents,,,where is this registry key?
Please help!
PS: Does anybody know where the Windows Mobile 5 registry is located (as file level: idd -> regedit.exe????) ?
Regardz

Just some tips...
You can move some DLLs with SKTools. If you have TomTom installed in storage memory - it may be move to SD card too. I have polish localization in ROM, but I don't use it - so I remove MUI files from \Windows directory (OS will not allow you to remove all of them).
There are more hacks you could use easy using SKTools.
Good luck.
try 'clear temp', google it.
install to storage card - open it from programs - select temp and cache - tap tools then clean
that should free up quite a bit of space.
I swear by it!
I just installed Clear Temp on my HTC Diamond.
Great app.
Thanks for the advice!

[Q] Deletting Cookies, History, Temp. Int. Files?

On my last Windows Based phone, I would go to File Explore>My Device>Windows>Profiles>guest>....here I could see Folders for Cookies, History, and Temporary Internet Files...where I would delete these temporary files after surfing the web to clear memory.
On my Tilt2 I realized I have to individually select each file to delete it...that I couldn't drag the highlighted file or have an option to select all...
Is there a way to delete these temporary files without going through and individually selecting each file and deleting them individually? Is there a way to select all or more than one to delete at a time? Or is there a better way to do this all together?
Thanks

Can you offer any additional info? Have to used Root Explorer or a similar app to confirm without a doubt the files are gone and not just in a different place? And I am slightly confused when you say "move to sd card" because internal storage and SDcard on this phone are the same thing since there is no EXT..
I copyed files as usualy from computer to the nexus
After the copy (I copied the new google apps zip) this zip is ont the storage, but all other 12Go of data in the card are disapeared
I try to find it with windows, root explorer, es file explorer, I tryed android undelet tools and windows undelet tools... noone can see the MTP memory of the nexus .......
And I disabled the upload to picasa..

Do you have fast usb charge enabled? If so, try disabling that.
all files in /sdcard disappeared
The same thing just happened to me. I copied 386MB of music to /sdcard/Music and all appeared to be fine. I used Windows7 x64 Explorer over USB mounted as MTP.
I noticed that I could not copy some files back to Windows from Nexus. After messing around with that for a while I used ES File Explorer to check out /sdcard. Only a few folders were there, as if /sdcard were newly created. I could still see all of the lost folders in Windows Explorer.
Am I screwed?
TIA!
This is from a corrupt MediaStore DB. I ran into something similar when moving files to my phone over WiFi using File Explorer. Afterwards only a handful of folders showed up when connected via USB. Only way to fix it is to reset the DB. Settings > Apps > All > Media Storage > Clear data/cache. Reboot. It should completely rebuild the DB after the boot, and things should show up correctly again.

That did not get all my data back, I must have done something else while trying to fix it. The good news is that this fixed one of my next questions: How do I reset the Google Music album art? The suggestion above fixed that wonderfully.
Thanks!
