Is there a plugin for the smartphone homescreen that allows google searches? The palm Treo 700W has this and I found it to be a very useful feature. I know I can just set google as my pocket ie home page -- I want something on the homescreen which I believe will be more convenient. Thoughts?
Google it (sorry, couldn't resist)

I had WM6 (an unofficial version) on my 8525 somehow, and then got the official version from HTC. When I have the unofficial version there was a very useful Today Screen plugin that took up very little space - just enough room to type something for doing a search. Where can I get that plug-in? Does it ring a bell with anyone?
The Live search, you mean? If so, download the latest WindowsLive cab and you'll have it again mate.
[rummages around hard drive]
Et voila.
Live Search does not have the today plugin
Live Search does not have the Today Screen plugin, it is just a separate application.
Look for SearchToday or LiveSearch.

if you are talking about an internet search plugin there is one on triangle powers website
Today Screen Search Bar
I tried the one from the triangle powers website, it is huge and takes up too much space on the screen. There is another one I found that is configurable and takes up less room, called searchtoday - here is the link -
http://www.freewareppc.com/utilities/searchtoday.shtml
its part of windows live with messenger and all that.
There is an option for the search bar on today screen. Also, read the wiki for the registry hack to make it use google instead of msn.
Windows Live Confusion
- "Windows Live" Confusion Resolved:
1. The file you attached (windows live mobile, search for "Windows Live Mobile.zip") did contain the application that would allow you to have the very thin search bar on the today screen. It puts a "Windows Live" icon on your applications menu(/screen).
2. Microsoft Live Search ("LiveSearch.cab") is a FANTASTIC application. It puts a "Live Search" icon on your applications menu(/screen). It has these small but very powerful applications built into it: Categories, Map, Directios, Traffic, Movies, and Gas Prices. For example for "Gas Prices", that tells you where you can find gas the cheapest - near where you live!

Quick question.
Can't the files as they are...... .cab be altered to have google by default so that those of us who are scared to death of the registry, can have it work as google?
Just the idea of changing the registry by hand makes me winded and dizzy.

Not a bad idea at all! Give this one a shot, i just changed it.
Hi,
Are there good freeware options for:
- Launcher (for home screen or otherwise). The MRU list is annoying and going through the entire start menu is cumbersome.
- Plucker reader.
Also, is there a way to turn off the keyboard backlight at times (for e.g. reading an ebook in the dark)?
Finally, any other good apps for wm standard or specifically for the dash? I've gone through the excalibur wiki so I'm already aware of the apps listed there.
Oh, one other question. Is there a way to assign 'Toggle Wifi' to a button, other than aebutton plus?
You can go to settings and power management I believe depending on what Rom you are using.
Here is link to plucker reader
http://www.plkr.org/
On plkr.org I cant find a link to a smartphone reader for plucker... only Pocket PC which would require a touch screen.
Is there a smart search option on this phone?
I just think there is a potential to do a lot more with the keyboard. Some sort of smart search (ala Palm Pre) would be great. From standby, just slide out the keyboard and start typing and list out the possibilities. Maybe start typing a name and any matches start popping up with options to directly call, text or email. Or a URL to go directly to a website, or save in notes (sometimes you see a website address you wanna check out later). Of course, there would be google/wikipedia search options too.
There should also be shortcuts with the keyboard too. Anyway to link certain keys (or combos) to launch apps (e.g. straight into SMS mode) or certain settings (e.g. bluetooth on/off)?
Another idea I think could be useful is integrating a facebook or twitter tab into TouchFlo3D directly. Is this possible?
Is there ANY where I can find a way to display a small calendar of the month on the TODAY screen??
I see small analog clocks by the hundreds. But not ONE little 31 day calendar anywhere.
It would be great to have an analog clock AND the month displayed maybe with holidays highlighted,
and a click-able appointment maker when you 'touch' the day.
Verizon HTC Touch Pro 2 WinMo ver. 6.1
Thank U (x) 100 for any help!
Why would this be necessary when we already have the calendar tab?
Use Outlook to insert your country's public hoildays.
If you want quick access to this tab, just tap on the "Calendar" link under "Call History" on your home tab. Or you can just position the calendar tab as one of the first 5 tabs so that you can just tap on it on the slider bar.
I am too lazy to have to press a tab to do that.
That and I want to be able to see both the calendar
and other screen items at the same time.
I COULD make a background pic that shows a 'static' month but...
gee... it's a computer... I'm not smart enough to program a cool
dynamic calendar myself though.
RLCalendar will do what you want and is freeware.
It will display a calendar is all no holidays highlighted and no clicking on it for anything but it will show a monthly calendar.

RLCalendar will only work with the old Today screen of WM 5-6.1 it won't work for WM6.5 after installing the cab you have to go to settings>today and turn it on and configure how big or small you want it.

Yep. I got that; WM 6.1 on this Verizon TP2.
When I open Today->Programs I see no rl-anything, rlToday or rlCalendar.
But when I open Today->Settings->System->Remove Programs, they are
displayed and listed in there:
"rotlaus Software rlToday" & "rlSoft rlCalendar" are in the 'list' of removable programs.
However when I go to Today->Settings->Personal->Today->Items and look at all the items I can turn on...
I see no items on the list that read rlToday or Today or rlCalendar or rlSoft or anything like these programs.
Just the normal items like TouchFLO 3D, Messaging, Device Lock, etc. etc.
I appreciate the help you are trying to give. I think I've finally found a device that validates
my dumb as a rock persona.
Hmm weird, I haven't tried it with WM 6.5 since I use SPB Mobile Shell and it has a nice calendar widget. Might give it a shot this weekend for you and see if I can get RLCalendar to work.

Don't do. I appreciate the thought and effort. But don't just for me please.
I have loaded a number of 'today' add-ins ( and uninstalled them ) when
they screw with my display res. or pixel widths or something.
Not worth it.
I downloaded the 'trial' SPB Shell program and calendar and I will play with that
thank you.
Maybe somebody else has fought this rlProgram wheel and will add feedback.
Thx again.
I know custom tabs for Manila has been discussed many times before, including one for tasks. But my question is different - is there a way to add tasks on home tab? Like replacing the call history or calendar entries. That's the only thing I've always missed in Manila - seeing if I have any active/due tasks right after I unlock my screen.
None interested?!
I'm definitely interested! I have no idea how to do it but I would love to see it. I've thought about this many times.
Well, obviously it makes only two of us. It seems is either unwanted and/or impossible..
+1 pls.
Sorry I have no clue how to do this
Yup, +1 here, makes 4.......
I don't know of a possibility to add tasks, but you can use this
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=602221
You can place a today plugin, like TodayAgenda or some other Tasks app. to cover up for example the calendar part on the home screen. Or you can add it to the Operator tab.

This is actually pretty straight forward if you follow the steps correctly. This is the way I did it to put messaging on the home screen.
Install the 2D TodayPage cab
Stop TouchFlo (Start > Setting > Home > Items and unselect TouchFlo)
Soft reset (may not be necessary but better in my mind)
Run M2Dtp config from programs page
Press and hold the red area next to plugins lable
Select Tasks (or whichever you want)
Leave Window at Window_00
Set x=10 y=240 w=220 h=60
Choose M2D widget page (Home)
press apply
press menu
press OK
Start TouchFlo (Start > Setting > Home > Items and select TouchFlo)
Switch to another tab then back to home and it should be there.
NOTE: You may need to experiment with the X (Left) ,Y (Top),W (Width), and H (Height) but they should place your plugin right after the calendar
How about Sense2.5.1922
Yeah.. well, I am more interested in latest Manila 3D - Sense 2.1/2.5. Apologies for not specifying that. Adding it to the title.
I change the right soft-key of the Home tab in my Sense 2.1 to "Tasks"..
So, if I want to see my tasks, I just tap the right soft-key..
I would also really like to get Outlook Tasks incorporated into Sense!
As part of the 'home tab', the 'calendar tab' or as a separate 'tasks tab'; either, some or all are fine with me ;-)
It surprises me that Microsoft has downplayed Outlook Tasks in WinMo. In Outlook it is easily accessible and a really useful tool for 'appointments or To-Do's that are not strictly time-specific'. That at least is how I use tasks.
Therefore it is really annoying that you have to open a separate app (either MS' own or something like pTasks) to access them in WinMo.
To have Outlook Tasks show up in the calendar I have to use a full-blown program like Pocket Informant.
It's also strange to me that HTC has overlooked the incorporation of Outlook Tasks in their otherwise excellent Sense-UI!
I'm even surprised that the great programmers frequenting this fine forum seemingly does not think that Outlook Tasks is worth incorporating into Sense.
Apart from the ease of access that comes with incorporation into Sense it would also enhance the general 'user experience' to be able to access Outlook Tasks in the same UI that lets you access the other Outlook-functions like mail and calendar!
Hopefully someone will recognize this 'oversight' and remedy the situation soon ;o)
Does anybody know how to make Tasks beeing displayed on home tab? (the way appointments and other calendar entries are)
Shortcut to Tasks is not the way out - it would be perfect to have 'to do list' always on, under the clock

Hello!
It seems what you are using lua scripting in your mod? Can you create mod with tasks instead of appointments?
I'm not the only one who dreaming about such mod . There are many people using tasks without any appointments...
Best regards and sorry for my English.

Argg, I really need tasks on home page.
I'm about to remove Sense from my device and go back to WM today screen just because I can see tasks...
I agree to the best solution I found is installing pTask and make shortcut on the homescreen.
