Yes you can, you'll have to move the \program files\Navigator folder to storage card, then, use any good registry editor to search for the string 'tomtom' and correct all the paths beneath, including the path for the dedicated button.
One last reminder, my advice is to leave this one in its original location: tomtom\tttoday.dll
I swaped it on mine and its working ok... so far
Bye

Solved the problem

Thanks Vasko,
I will try tonight!
Regards
Bill

sorry to drag up an old post, does this work with tomtom 6?
going to try it later on.
Thanks
Ben

Yes, just copy everything to the memory card and remake your short-cuts for the start menu.

thanks will give this a try and post back if i have any problems.

all moved over fine, but found that my today screen plugin for tom tom is missing, the tttoday.dll is still in \tomtom but cant find it in the today items options.
Is there somewhere in the registry that looks for today plugins so i can re-register it?
thanks
Ben

am i being dim
Surely the easiest way is to uninstall and reinstall - or is that too simple?
I always keep my tomtom install cab files on my memory stick - just in case i'm hit with a hard reset situation

that is an option, just wanted to see if i could get it back without that as I just spent ages installing poi's and confiuring all my settings.
can live without it for now until my next hard reset heh
Thanks anyway.

i think i found the problem,
can someone with tomtom 6 please post whats in their key here..
if indeed there is a "tom tom" item listed
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Today\Items
Thanks

TomTOM 5 not saving settings

Hi guys and gals,
I've recently upgraded my XDA IIs to the latest iMate software. I've then re-installed tomTom 5 with the upgrade to version 5.1
Now my tomtom won't save any of my settings. So i can input my Home and favourties etc... shut down tomtom and then when i go back in, i have to accept the agreement again, and none of my settings are there.
Is anyone else having this problem? and more importantly - does anyone know what the fix is for this?
Thanks all
tcs44_uk - Are you installing from an SD Card? If you are check that the files are unlocked before you copy them onto the SD card or it will act as you have described.
I too had the same problem with a legit purchased copy from TomTom. Someone on another forum advised me to copy the files to the PC, unlock them, copy them back to the SD card the re-install - hey presto works a treat.
HTH
I have nearly the same problem. My settings stay, but favorite and base are gone after a few uses :
I record the base and a few favorites, I exit TT5 using the "quit" icon. When I restart it, the base & favorites are still there (so they are correctly recorded : the file is not locked, and the SD card not Read Only).
After a few runs (I have not been able to check how many, or what can cause that), they're all gone : no base and no favorite.
All I store in POI never disappear, so my work-around is to place all favorite and base in POI.
Tomtom support is ZERO. They have pre-formatted message they send not reading the whole problem, and it is impossible to reply, 'cause the case is closed after their crappy answer.
OhBuggerit2k2, how do I tell if the files are locked?
I have the same problem, TT5 will not remember any favourites when restarted.
I have the files on my computer, how do I check they are not locked?
Thanks Guys
Ginnser
Which files??
I also have this problem.....
does anyone know which file(s) it is that hold the info regarding:
Home location
Favourites
and all the other personal settings
would appreciate any help,
Thanks,
Alan
i had a similar issue & resolved it by changing the settings on the file with extension .cfg from read only. i had 2 copy the file 2 my desktop change the settings then saving back 2 xda2i.
i have a problem with tomtom where it throws me out...any1 know how 2 sort it?
Thanks guys - after copying all of the TomTom files back to PC, taking off the Read Only flag, and then copying the files back - all working fine now.
Cheers
hi guys
I cannot seem to find the .cfg file !
Which folder is it in?
also had a quick check, i dont seem to have any read only files !
Anyone help !

Tomtom Navigator and Map V605 help plzzz.

Hello, I have a legal tomtom v 5.21 installed on my BA. till now i was using a v562 map and ordered the latest cd of european & gb maps from the tomtom site. I got the Cd and I had run the whole setup on from my computer, followed all the instructions of adding GB / france maps onto my 2gb mmc card and it copied everything on the sd card and gave the msg Installation complete.
Now when i switch tomtom ON - on my ppc, it displays me an empty screen, i mean a greyed screen with a + ad - icons on the top left n right side and all gray i dont know y.
I tried to switch to my old map and it works fine, but when i tried to swtich onto the new one, it doesnt. I even tried to install the GB plus map tht came on the CD and it still appears gray. Can someone please help me, y is this happening, is there something wrong that i did. I mean i just followed the instructions on the cd.
cheers
Try deleting currentmap.dat from \my documents\tomtom and then run with the new maps again.
did you copy your Great_Britain_Plus-Map.cfg from your old map folder into your new map folder?
nop mate, i didnt copy the .cfg file. ill try it out today, do you want me to copy or not to copy. cheers
Install the new map, copy the old Great_Britain_Plus-Map.cfg file into the new folder - you may need to rename it because the configuration file should match the name of the map folder so if the map folder is Great_Britain_Plus_Map the configuration file should be Great_Britain_Plus_Map.cfg or if you map folder is Great-Britain-Map then your configuration file should be Great-Britain-Map.cfg
In my experience it is well worth deleting currentmap.dat from the \my documents\tomtom this file doesn’t contain anything of interest it seems to just remember the name and location of the map you last used, although it has just accrued to me that I don’t think this is causing your problems as this would normally cure a “map not found” error message!
To check that you have got the configuration file name correct run TomTom and then check that there is only one .cfg in the map folder, if there are two then you have made a mistake with the name.
The configuration file contains, favourites, history, home location and GPS setup
Hope this makes sense, difficult to explain on here!! 
Cheers Bluetba for the help, It worked but in a very diff way. I copied the map again on the the SD card, deleted the currentmap.dat file, but then tomtom wasnt able to pik up the map, u know when you get the map choice and you select the relevant map, tomtom got stuck there.
Lucky, i copied the currentmap.dat back to tomtom folder, then ran tomtom again, selected the map V605 and it worked perfect, dono whts wrong, but it shows me everything perfect.
But is V605 perfectly working, i read 2-3 comments that its not suitable, doesnt plan perfect. dono if you know abt it.. cheers anyway mate
Glad you got it working, bit strange though!
I had no problems with V605, well othing obvious that I can remember anyway and I use TomTom alot, and I would rather have an upto date road map than anything else anyway.
I am using V671 and that has an error in my area that has been introduced into this version, strange really but I did read somewhere that map makers introduce errors so that they can identlfy which version is which and where they came from.
Glad your sorted
Cheers
hahaha, i was reading a post where one of the users mentioned that he was going to manchester via the long flyover in birmingham.... and tomtom said - go straight - which meant, to smash into the concrete divider and fall down.. hahahah... strange..
well bluetba, do u know how can i add addresses to my contacts, i meant contact navigation. I cant see any program or icon on how to add address details to the contact. Cheers mate

WM6: Storage vs. Storage Card challenge...

Today I have installed 3 WM6 Roms:
- Vijay's
- Infidel's
- Midget's
All 3 are good, whith differences in apps and as far as I remember Infidel's has MMS installed (where can I find the CAB?).
Once major concern that I have is that the Extended ROM is not hidden anymore and therefore all my attachment in the emails go to 'Storage' rather than to the SD card (='Storage Card'). All 3 ROMs have this issue and with attachments of about 10MB each (all PPTs). I will run into a major issue real quick... (say after 1 email...?)
Having access to the 10MB Extended Storage is a nice to have, but how can I save my attachments on the storage card? Is there a registry tweak?
All help highly appreciated.
Having said this... The ROMs are all great. Thanks for all the hard work and sharing these dewdrops of technology with us...!
-Ireneus
ill try and find a solutions sood, btw mine has mms
Sorry Mate
Midget,
Sorry about that... I have been installing too many ROMS today..
Do you have the CAB for MMS?
Thanks,
Ireneus
no, it was integrated already, ill try and stick it in a cab when i get time
I didnt see a phone lockup issue in WM5 AKU 3.5... Also email synchonising tries to save the attachment by default into ext rom eh? I never had any such problem with Infidels ROM. Try again.
Also this phone lockup issue is only in Crossbow. Just set a password and let it ask you after a lot of hours.
btw if you decide to throw away your device, just as a second thought send it to me. XD
I test all the previous trick and it did not work
I think every kind of memory is shown as a storage so you will be able to encrypt it
Outlook is the only application in which you can not select where to store files.
If you change the path in the registry , WM6 will create another storage called "STORAGE CARD2" pointing on extended rom
Guys,the way for to hide the visibility of "Storage" (ExtROM on WM5)directory..???

Really dude, stop pretending, I know your a fool, you know your a fool, we all know your a fool. the sooner you stop posting the better.
just FYI nuclear <=> Infidel.
what is the reg tweek for 3.5 . as every time i reset windows name the memory card (storagecard 2. )
here is how to move your mails and attachments around:
You can free up even more memory on your phone by moving all of your downloaded mail and attachments to your Storage Card.
Step 1.
Using the file manager in activesync, create the following folders on your Storage Card.
\MAPI
\MAPI\ATTACHMENTS
(You can actually name them whatever you want, "Inbox" for example.)
Step 2. Now browse to \Windows\Messaging (SmartPhone) or \Windows\MAPI (PocketPC)
If you want to save all of your existing mail, move everything in this directory to the new ones on your Storage Card.
Step 3. Now fire up your registry editor and navigate to the following.
[ HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\MAPI ]
Then create the following keys.
"AttachPath" (Value)= \Storage Card\MAPI\Attachments
"PropertyPath" (Value)= \Storage Card\MAPI
Step 4. Reboot your phone and then goto your inbox. If you can see all of your mail then mission accomplished. Double check your attachments as well.
found on:
http://www.tleone.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=61&Itemid=59
I do a test with
"AttachPath" (Value)= \Storage Card\MAPI\Attachments
"PropertyPath" (Value)= \Storage Card\MAPI
and with : (syntax on msdn)
"AttachPath" (Value)= \Storage Card\\MAPI\\Attachments
"PropertyPath" (Value)= \Storage Card\\MAPI
did not work
Tried but failed...
I tried this as well, but no success... anyone got this to work?
I created 2 String Values in my Registry directly under MAPI... I assume that is what is meant by the instructions?
Thanks,
-Ireneus

If you use the Today Messaging Plugin, I don't think these hacks work, see explanation at http://www.pocketpcmag.com/blogs/in...can_store_your_activesyn&more=1&c=1&tb=1&pb=1
Cheers,
Steve.
I think that is a tweak in SKtools that you can move the inbox to any storage card.
I applied the tweak and see the folder Inbox.xxx inside the "storage card", although inside the Mail's Storage setting (option) you may still see it pointing to "storage". [Note the difference between "storage" (created after unhiding the ext rom) and "storage card".]
Regarding the naming of "storage card2", I got rid of it by turning off the phone, take out the card, restart, reinsert the card => the naming is back to "storage card". [Note: this is not a unique issue of WM6!]
Attachements forever stick on Storage

Hi,
You little misunderstood me in the other thread.
So I decided to attach this little program. Try yourself.
Install:
-------
- unzip pr.zip
- copy pr.exe to Universal's \Windows\StartUp directory
- tap on pr.exe. You should see a Ready message in a messagebox
- Enable Messaging today plugin in Start/Settings/Today/Items tab
Now send yourself a message with an attachment.
First try with small attachments. ( 50 - 100 KB ), than you can try bigger ones.
Your attachments should be in :
\Storage Card\Inbox.mst29833559.4051713536\Mail Attachments
Check file sizes.
Warning! You mustn't go to Messaging app's tools/Options/Storage tab.
If you press OK in this tab your attachments will be again on Extended ROM.
Now try soft reset. And again send yourself a test message with attachment.
Report your experiences here.
Storage issues
The reason many of the WM6 ROM shows the extened ROM is that there is a broken module in them! I have created a new WM6 for JasJar's and corrected this issue, mine has the Extended ROM hidden as it should be, and can be unlocked via software. You can use my version it can be found here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=1134781#post1134781
It will resolve your mail issue...
Take care,

That's OK, but Laurentius26 is using Helmi 1.1.
Extended ROM is also hidden by default in this version.
I think Laurentius26 would like to see a solution to store attachements on Storage Card while Extended ROM is visible, after unhiding.
That was the reason why I attached that small program above.
Hmm, I'll try your version
@szilamer
Hi,
Thank you.
Sorry about previous post, last post I was teasing you a bit
Anyway I tried your little tool, and it worked before softreset,
but.... after softreset it's a complete mess.
Now I have three maps:
Extended_Rom, Storage Card (e-mail att. are there now), and Storage Card2. So I can't reach my programs installed on storage card anymore because it's changed to Storage Card2.
If I take the Storage Card out I see that the Storage Card map is still there in main memory, in this map I see the IE Cache (think that's the problem because I moved it to Storage Card with SKTools) and the email attachements. Tried to delete the map but this doesn't work because the cache is there, so I put the device in flight modus, removed your app from Windows\Startup and did a softreset.
Now I can delete the map!
Than I put the Storage Card back in and softreset again.
Everything back to normal pffff...., I'm happy again
Can you tell me what this app is doing and where to look for in the registry? It's intresting it worked before softreset!
btw. I like Jwrightmcps work to so I'm going to flash his new WM6, but it would be great if I could fix the Attachements story first, than I can make a complete backup with SPB before I flash, because there is a lot of work in this Rom already and I would like to keep it for reserve!
Cheers and thanks again,
Leo

Hi again,
Did forget something I see! Before I started this procedure I forgot to disable the today plugin!
So I have to do two things:
Disable today messaging,
Disable Messaging apps\tools\Storage tab.
Ok, going to give it another try, I know now how to disable it wright

TomTom 7: Unable to start. Not enough memory is available.

What the hell? Before I've changed the File system cache to auto it did work! But now that I have much more ram available about 21MB, it doesn't want to start. So I tried to go back to 4MB file system cache... but nothing, still that error message.
TomTom 7 is installed in the memory card... wtf???

I've had this happen before, and if I remember correctly, it was a corrupt Map File. I restored an earlier copy of my maps to the SD Card, and all was good again.
Try hiding your maps and see if TomTom will run. It should ask you to use a Voucher. If it does, then it's the map problem and TomTom is fine.
Nope, I've tried this tip but no success... It's really odd...
Hi Zooster. Sorry to hear about the headache you currently have.
I have had similar problems in the past month, the first time really freaked me out.
In my case, I noticed that some of the files on my sd card know longer showed up, and later discovered that others had indeed become corrupted.
I solved it (and continue to do so when it happens) by formatting my sd card and copying back onto it a copy I have of all the Tomtom files. Infact, once you get it working again, I suggest you regularly make a copy of whatever is on your sd card in case it happens again. For me, it seems to be ROM specific, i.e. only happens when I flash some of the new ROMs. Sometimes the sd card suddenly stops showing up in file explorer, sometimes I just need to remove tomtom and then reinstall it.
The problem for you now may be getting the original Tomtom files, I guess it depends where you got them from.
When I flash some ROMS, this problem occurs. I have to avoid ROMs that do that and choose another.
I hope you manage to sort it out. I know what's it like when these things suddenly go wrong for no reason! Best of luck.
Mattster.
Ok, I'll try to restore original files... I'll let you know.
WHAT TOMTOM FILES DO YOU NEED ON YOUR SD CARD?
There seems to be an awful lot of tomtom files on my sd card, so I've started to delete some and see if Tomtom still works. And it does!
I've got it down to:
My Documents folder with maps inside
Voices folder
plus the following files:
ALBUM.VOL
AutoRun
Autorun.exe-run
Start
TTN
TTN2003
ttnavigator.bif
I've lost the 2257 file (that apparently causes automatic self install of Tomtom when you insert the card) so if anyone has that I'd like it back!!!
So, my question to all of you Tomtom users is: Which files are actually needed for Tomtom to work?
(I know there is the tidy up option of chucking any mystery files into a folder, but I like to know what all files on my sd card are actually doing!)
Mattster.
Hmmm...
Just had this problem myself, but might have fixed it on my Artemis
Originally I copied the TomTom Navigator.EXE to \windows\start menu\programs and it worked
However; it stopped working with the "not enough memory error" - so I started disabling applications, uninstalling them etc.
Still no joy
Just out of interest tried the TomTom Navigator.EXE within the TomTom folder on my SD card - and it worked...
I've deleted the .exe from "my device" and created a shortcut to my SD Card and now it looks like it is working again
Going to keep testing now - but perhaps worth a shot

For tomtom, TTN is the installation file, the others can be all deleted.
After installation, we only need the following 3 folders:
1. maps
2. voices
3. zip
All of them need stored in sd card root path.
If you need the satellite view, then you need one more folder in your sd card root, which is "raster"
The file "ttnavigator.bif" is auto generated by tomtom everytime you use it, you will always find it is still there even you have delete it sometime before, just leave it. Also "ttnavigator.bif" is a log file for tomtom, so it is useful, dont delete this file.

In the 2577 (not 2257) map are the following files:
AutoRun.exe
Autorun.exe-run
TTN.cab
TTN2003.cab
So you just moved them to the root

Thanks Arjan. Thanks for the reply.
What I'm curious to know is, after a new ROM flash (i.e. before TT has been installed on their clean device) what TT files do they have on the SD card.

Sorry, can't answer that. Flashed my rom quite a few times but never bothered to clean up my storage card. Probably still got Tom Tom 6 and or WM5 stuff on there
i had the issue with artemis and tomtom Navigator v7.910.9185. It was on sd. Then i deleted voice and raster folder and suddenly the problem solved!
Then i copied voice folder back to sd with 3 voices (before i had about 25) and now it works like charm.
I have had this same 'memory' problem on a few devices,
it has always been sorted by an SD card format and a card restore from my PC.
as to Tomtom after a re-flash ... I have never had any issues with it at all,
I just restore a full backup with SPB backup.
i have tomtom 7 ver. 7.910 on my p3600 running wm6 pro but seems to always come up no gps device can anyone help, please send me a message soon thanks mossy
Go to Change Preferences, Configure GPS, Click Configure, Tap left Arrow to show Other NMEA GPS receiver and tap Select, Set 4800 Baud and tap Done, Select GPS in COM9, and you are good to go. Click Done to go back to main screen.
I had the same problem once, install chaps advance config an relocate the internet temporary internet files.
by default they are located in: \windows\profiles\guest
if you use youtube a lot and google maps i can happen too.
I get this all of the time.
the problem occurs when my battery gets lower than 70% and I launch TomTom Navigator 7.
what i do now is make a copy of the Map Folder and keep it on my memory card.
I also make a zip archive and keep that on my device (not SD Card) in My Docs or somewhere else with a copy of the corresponding .dct file and .bif files and installers.
this way, i can restore tomtom onto another sd card if need be.
usually i format the card and restore the zip archive!

What the hell? Before I've changed the File system cache to auto it did work! But now that I have much more ram available about 21MB, it doesn't want to start. So I tried to go back to 4MB file system cache... but nothing, still that error message.
TomTom 7 is installed in the memory card... wtf???

Copilot 8 - Saving favorites without success

When I save favorites in Copilot 8 I can see them as long as I don't close the application. When I restart it all the favorites (and also the recent targets) are gone again.
Did someone face this problem or could give me a hint how to solve this issue?
Thank you in advance.

I had this problem before, but I can't remember the exact file. Basically, there's a file that you need to enable read/write access by finding it in Windows Explorer and unchecking "read only" in the file's properties. That fixed it for me, but I can't remember what file it was.
Thank you for your reply. The folder supposed to be writeable (and acutally shown as writeable) is copilot/EU/europe/save as I found two files named favorite.lst and recents.lst in it.
These files are shown as writeable as well. Do I have to gain root to make the folder and/or the files writeable not only for the owner?
Called Copilot Support and got the answer that they are aware of this problem and there should be a newer version to hit the market within the next weeks to correct this.
Aditionally I was told that there has just been released a froyo compatible version, just to let you know.
Finally helped myself .
Within the copilot folder there is a file named user.cfg. The path to the save folder was not set.
So I closed two cases in one go: Moved the maps to the external sd card and set or changed the paths in the user config file.
Now everything is working as it should. Maybe this information can help other people to solve the problem more quickly then I did.
Can copilot be installed on an external sd card? (sdcard/sd)?
The program itself can't but as I said you can move the maps folder to the external sd card - you just have to physically move for example the EU (if you are in Europe like me) folder to the external sd card and then change the path in the user.cfg to this directory to the new path (there is more than one entry for this directory in the user.cfg).
Perfectly worked for me.
user.cfg
Hello Olympicchicken,
I think I have the same problem you had but when I came to verify first of all if I had the files favorite.lst and recents.lst, they were none.
I downloaded those two files from a Copilot Live package as saw on the internet but still nothing, I can save my favorites.
When opening the user.cfg, the path to save the favorites and recents are the right one:
[Data]
"VersionedGrid"=-2147483640
[Directories]
"AddonDir"="/sdcard/copilot/NA/Quebec/addon/"
"AudioDir"="/sdcard/copilot/audio/"
"CitiesDir"="/sdcard/copilot/NA/Quebec/cities/"
"GlobalAddonDir"="/sdcard/copilot/addon"
"GPSDemoDir"="/sdcard/copilot/gpstracks/demo"
"LRGeoDir"="/sdcard/copilot/NA/Quebec/places/"
"LRGlobalSaveDir"="/sdcard/copilot/save"
"LRGPSSaveDir"="/sdcard/copilot/gpstracks"
"LRGridDir"="/sdcard/copilot/NA/Quebec/data/"
"LRInfoDir"="/sdcard/copilot/info"
"LRSaveDir"="/sdcard/copilot/NA/Quebec/save/"
"PolyDir"="/sdcard/copilot/NA/Quebec/polygons/"
"RazorCacheDir"="/sdcard/copilot/save/razor_cache"
"RegionDir"="NA"
"RootDir"="/sdcard/copilot/"
"SkinDir"="/sdcard/copilot/skin/"
"SpeechDir"="/sdcard/copilot/speech"
"UIConfigDir"="/sdcard/copilot/uiconfig/"
Do you have any ideal what could be causing this by any chances?
Thanks for you time!
Have a great week-end!
P.s.: I have Galaxy S with Android 2.1 and Copilot Live 8.2.0.218
As for me, I have the samsung galaxy S and I cant even save. I moved to external SD card and changed the user but it still dosnt work. I dont have a "favorite.lst" file, neither a "recent.lst" one. I reinstalled and I still dont get them.
Same here, I can't save my favorites after upgrading to 8.2.0.218. It seems that's a problem with canadian adress. Someone have found the newer version 8.2.0.368 ?
The Problem seems to be with Canadian Addresses, ( actually 1 did work for me ) but it was only for testing. US Addresses had no issue
Any fix?
This helped me sort but the save directory that resolved it was not the one in the copilot directory..
The offending line in the user config was
"LRSaveDir"="sdcard/copilot/<region>/<country>/save/
for me the line said "LRSaveDir"=2
I changed mine to reflect my phones directory structure..
"LRSaveDir"="sdcard/copilot/EU/UK/save/
**When I did that all resolved and even my previous saves came back.
So I am happy again.

I had the same problem. I had deleted some files on my SD Card and somehow something got corrupt(happened when switching between 3 different apps while driving).
I'm on the road at least 4 days a week and use co-pilot to route my gas buddy stops and save them as trips. All of the sudden it wouldn't save my recent data and all of my save files were not accessible even though the files were in the map save dir ("sdcard/copilot/NA/save/").
I decided to just wipe everything and re-install the app though.
