I would like to play aroung with the latest HTC-Rom.
As my device is brand new and works quite well,
(except for the wlan)
I don't want to "break" it.
so my question :
How do I backup the Rom ?
I would like to backup the rom, and then play with the htc rom.
if anything goes wrong, I would be able to restore the original rom-backup and everything would be fine again.
(I already have a backup of all my data)

Hi, i know this maybe on other threads but i cant findit, yesturday my phone speaker stop working, my phone have warranty, AT&T send me a new 8525, but my problem is that i have to many things on my old phone that i dont remember all (diferent hacks and program fix that i spend long nights working) i whant to backup my rom with all the programs and setings to install it on my new phone, i have to send the old phone ASAP, please can someone help me. You can use Sprite Backup that has a feature of backing up ROM or Full backup. Or you can use SPB Backup. Both are good and will do your task.

OK my friends i locate this programs but they are to backup DATA on my PDA and i want to backup my ROM and create a RUU to install my rom on my new phone.
Sprite and SPB Backup both back up your settings, documents, programs (if they are in device memory) - all the data on your phone except the ROM. Dumping your ROM and then coming back and trying to create a RUU from it is going to be a pain the... well, it is unnecessarily difficult.
First, use one of the programs above and do a full backup. Then, when you get your phone back, flash the same ROM you are using now and then restore from your backup. You will achieve the same result with much less trouble.
Is there some reason you MUST back up your ROM? Is it one of a kind?
Ok but i cant find this programs that works with WM6, i download them but i am getting error when try to backup.
I've searched for this and cant find the info I need so be easy on me, i'm new to android but loving it. On windows mobile when you backed up your device and then did a firmware upgrade you couldnt just do a restore because of the changed registry settings and other issues that went along with it, you had to restore the software 1 at a time all over again. On the evo I have backed up with Titanium backup and mybackuppro. When froyo comes out (or any other upgrade) , will these backup softwares restore your phone to the way it was before without your phone being all screwed up, or do you have the same issues as windows mobile, and also does it matter if the phone is rooted or not, on how the restore process works? Those programs back stuff up like bookmarks, user dictionary and home screen setup just fine and restore things like that very well. System settings and such tend to not backup well. Most applications will also backup and restore just fine although some paid / protected apps may need to be downloaded again but for the most part they restore just fine.
Nandroid does a complete and full backup of everything for complete restores should something you flash not be too you liking. Once you finish all the root / recovery steps that option will be in your recovery menu (phone off, power on while holding down volume, select recovery).
Both have their uses. Nandroid takes you back in time to a different rom or kernel or whatever while a program like mybackup pro make it less painful to get all your stuff back if you want to try out another rom.
It should be noted that a Nandroid restore is only supposed to work on the same OS version that it was backed up on.

Nandroid works regardless of what rom you had before or what you recently flashed. You can have fresh or damage control, nandroid and try froyo and go right back to the sense rom regardless if its a 2.1 or 2.2.
You can set up three plus different roms and use a new one each day. There is no limitation of using froyo (2.2) and going to a 2.1 rom like damage or an asop rom if we ever get one.
Just wipe cache and dalvik before running the nandroid or flashing a new rom that isn't a direct decedent (fresh .2 to .3)

Ok, but you can't go back to say 1.5. So there is a point at which too much change in the OS will cause issues with the restore. I agree that within a few minor version points it is fine but I wanted to be conservative in my answer.
Ok , I think I have a good grip on it now. When I upgrade to froyo I will have to use Titanium or mybackuppro to restore my apps(one by one, or batch method) and maybe some of my settings, I can then use my nandroid backup if I dont want froyo anymore and want to go back to my old stock 2.1 sprint rom and have an identical image to restore, is this correct? I'm pretty new at this, altough this device is my second android smartphone. My first was an LG GW620(rooted and cyanogenmod) now I have the Wildfire (already rooted).
Before I will use custom roms I would love to ask you some questions, because I had a lot of problems with the cyanogen mod on my LG. (Radio FM didn't work, bluetooth, camera, ect..)
Wile rooting my Wildfire, I did a backup with the Clockworkmod Recovery (nandroid I presume) but I am a bit of a noob when it's about backing up and "restoring" it to the same state as before the custom ROM. So I would like to know if indeed I can restore it to the same state (rooted, Android 2.2.1, software 2.22.405.1) and how axactly to do that?
Also, will I have the same problems again with the cyanogen MOD like before?
And last but not least :
What is the current best suited custom ROM to use on this device (hopefully bug-free ^_^) ?
(I did a search and found an old thread (2010) asking for the best rom suitable for the wildfire, so I wanted to create a new one)

Anyways, the answer depends on whether you like HTC Sense or not. If you can answer this with 100% surety, you can choose your Custom ROM more easily. CM7 for the Wildfire has come a long way from CM6, and, doesn't have the problems you listed. (FM Works, Cam works, Video Recording works, BT works - BUT, with an additional app called Bluetooth File Transfer installed, else, it may cause issues)
If you cannot live without Sense and its apps (Like Contacts and Dialer), then look at Sense based ROMs like JokerDroid, WildPuzzle, DK Custom ROM etc.

There is no definitive answer to what is the best ROM. Every member will have their own opinion, based on what suits them. No ROM is 'universally' good. Infact, many have given up root and gone back to the Stock ROM, because that is what suited them ultimately.
Nandroid Restores can be done from the same menu where you backed up. When you backed up, you must have noticed another option called "Restore". Nandroid Backups are restored from there. Make sure that you do NOT rename the backup folder on your SDCard, nor move it to any other location.

I do long for the CyanogenMod's hugely configuration options. So I think I will go for that.

Hmmm... I installed ROM Manager premium and through there I downloaded the CyanogenMOD 7.1.0-RC1, wiped the Dalvik cache and installed it.
When it tried booting, it looked like it got stuck in an boot-loop, it froze and booted again, over and over again.
I'm now trying to restore my last backup, hopefully it will work.
Any ideas? Has this happened to anyone?

EDIT: I thought of something, I wanted to keep my apps, contacts, ect.. so I 'only' wiped the dalvik cache, nothing else.
Could this be what caused the boot-loop?
EDIT2: Ooooh yes, the ROM Manager premium did a complete backup, and my is back just like it was when I backupped YIIHAAAA (...yeah, I was a bit affraid there ^_^ )
Strange thing though, when I started the phone with volume-down, power button, then did a backup from there, it did'nt backup data and all. only the system. How does that come? (PS.: I used revolutionary to S-Off)
EDIT3: Yups; that did the trick. Wiping all of the data before flashing the mod was what I did wrong. Now it boots up perfectly
It's necessary to perform a full wipe before installing a new ROM. (Not applicable for updates to an existing ROM, like CM RC1 to a new nightly). Else, you are going to end up in a bootloop.

I use hell fire and love it. It is smoot easy and beautyfull. I have not found anything whits not function. Then it maybe should bee me. But no rom can change that.

I my self is pretty new to this game. But I have just boyed a cheep phone and start playing. It is a nice and safe way to learn.
I have tryed a lot of the roms and found that if you take your time and let the phone rest in peas wheil it work nothing gos wrong. As the guy up mention wipe everything before flash. Take your time and maybe a cup of coffe and you are playing the best computergame ever.

i have one question. I didnt find answer on this quest yet, so i ask here. I have ARHD 7.0.0 from mike (great job mike ) and in a short i want to update to 7.0.1 without superwipe. But i dont know, if i will loose my data, like apps, contacs sms or something else. Before this i flashed new rom only with superwipe tool.
I know its maybe stupid question, but i am still beginner and i am not sure, if i am right with many things. (and sory for my bad english sometimes ).

You can just flash 7.01 over your existing 7.00, because it doesn't wipe anything on its own.
And if you want tro be sure, just make a nandroid backup via CWM before.
It will secure everything for 100%.

Good to hear this, i was bored with instaling apps and doing everything one more time, because i didnt use any backup app, that was mistake
Consider getting yourself a copy of Titanium Backup (or MyBackupPro, I think it's called).
You can schedule backups of everything you have, from SMS messages through to user apps and data, then restore after flashing.
I don't do that much ROM flashing myself, 1/month approx (I will eventually get to ARHD v7), but it's great to restore so easily

be aware that once you flash a rom over (in your case 7.0.1 over 7.0.0) all your MODS (they aren't right now for ARHD 7, but for future records ) will be deleted
also if you removed some bbloatware software...it will be flashed again
so my advice
Get Titanium, as you already being advised and backup all aps
DO a NANDROID BACKUP (make this a regular job....it will save from a lot of mistakes that you will do ..trust me ..it happens)
Get familiar with ROM CLEANER from PATRIC83 thread....removes a lot of crappy htc software that you dont need
flash rom
flash rom cleaner
reboot
VOILA
so that i can flash with a new rom and if i dont like i can switch back to my backup with everything still on there like it was before i flashed it ?

i have a few games and stuff that i got when i bought a phone dock for my xperia play, i typed in some codes and it allowed me to download some games
if i was to flash a new rom on phone would i be able to get these games back on my phone ? or are they gone for good ?
ive still got loads of gunk on my phone and it is constantly running out of usable memory so would like to speed it up and get with the program like yous guys on here

Uh, I think is called a Nandroid Backup, havent tried it but I think its accessed by CWM.
I think its something along them lines.
And secondly, backup the apps by Titanium Backup.
Yep, nandroid backup is as comprehensive a backup as you'll ever get. If you switch kernels, just copy the previous kernel to somewhere, as a nandroid can't backup kernels on the Play
