Hi there
I have an SX66 with a cracked digitizer/touchscreen.
The LCD is ok. I removed and replaced the battery, unit starts ok, but, of course, I cannot get by the alignment screen (makes sense).
I have a couple of questions.
First, I have an opportunity to buy another SX66 that has a cracked LCD, but there doesn't "seem" to be a crack in the touchscreen. There is a "spider's-web". Can this be on the LCD? Or I'm thinking that maybe it's on the underside of the touchscreen. Any opinions?
Is it possible to have a cracked/broken lcd and not have an affected touchscreen?
So, the touchscreen 'looks' to be ok, but is there anyway of testing this without removing it? Any opinions? Should I buy his unit and try it?
Second, there are some instructions for replacing touchscreens in an earlier thread. However, there was one comment that said that if I buy the proper touchscreen, soldering/desoldering is not required. Can anyone clarify or confirm that?
Third, is there anyway of determining which touchscreen I require by just the unit serial number? Or do I need to remove it?
I want to take this apart and fix it, but I would rather gather all the info first. Any help would be hugely appreciated!!
Thanks!
Richard
Hi Richard,
Well first off all, let me put your situation into other terms...
You have a really expensive suit jacket with a cashmere liner inside. You snag it on a nail, and now there's a big rip on it. You have the opportunity to buy another really expensive suit jacket with a good exterior, but the cashmere is ripped to shreds inside. Do you buy it and try to sew the two together?
I don't know exactly how crafty you are, but retrofitting a touch screen onto an LCD sounds like a daunting task. Buy a new OEM screen outright and fit it into your SX66. You'll have a lot less to worry about in the long run.
This might help

the price is right?
the cost eaven on ebay dose not justify not getting a new one so here it is im in cambridge and i need a new housing for mine so we can get one i can chang out the screen for you and split the cost is you like this idea email me thanks

Well i just dropped my phone at the car wash, cracked the glass on the lcd, so...i was wondering if anyone had a dead BA that they could sell me, all i am looking to get is the top sliding half. PDASMART has the lcd itself for 225, i didnt even pay that much for the phone lol. anyways, let me know if you or anyone you know has one to sell, thank you
Hello,
do you know what LCD is inside your BA? I have digitiser / glasstops for the Sony LCM, these can be made to work with the Toppoly LCM but it is a bit awkward as you have to cut the ribbon and 'spread' it out to connect to the main ribbon.
Richard
im sorry i havent taken it apart yet as i still need it as a phone for now until i get a temp phone. i'll look around to see if i can dig up any information on that though. thanks
no one?? fluffcat, you still got your lcd??
I have dropped my xda 2s and have smashed the screen also cracked the sliding part of the case on the front where the home buttons etc are. the sliding part of the screen is now very loose. any idea how much this will cost to repair looking at it i hink it may be past economic repair.
Hi m8, if your not going to repair it let me know what board type you have and how much you want for it.. I spent £120 on a new screen but later realised the main board had a crack in it.
Cheers
Martin
will do, £120 i assume that is for a bare screen? so with a case and fiting it is fair to assume im well over £200 just as well it is going to be paid for by the insurance co they just need to know how much for the claim to see whether they want to repair it or replace. i love my 2s but if it is being replace i think it will be an exec next time.
is the touch screen and the display all one integrated unit or 2 seperate units?

The best price I've seen for the touchscreen is on ebay. But, there are a few catches...
First issue: There are two different LCD/touchscreen assemblies that were used on the angel. One is made by Sony, the other by Toppoly. The touchscreen or LCD from one can not be used on the other due to programming and physical layout.
Second issue (and this is probably the biggest): The way they touch screen and the LCD are connected is a major pain in the arse to fix. It's a plastic ribbon cable that has been soldered to a point on another ribbon cable. Unless you are very good at soldering, it's not something I'd attempt due to the largish chance of melting the cables and making things worse, not to mention the potential to hurt the LCD itself.
If you look in the wiki under the hacks and tweaks, the Technical Stuff (including disassembly) link has two pages to look at:
Blue Angel/PPC6600 Disassembling Procedure with Pictures
Blue Angel Spare Screen
While they are not the best pictures, the last image under the disassembling section shows the ribbon cables I'm referring to, and the touchscreen assembly picture for the spare screen page shows a sony touchscreen ribbon cable detached from the LCD cable, which will show the connection points I'm referring to.
I've got this exact issue as well on my O2 branded angel. Due to the cost of a new LCD/touchscreen assembly (almost the cost of a working angel), I'm considering trying to solder a new touchscreen. If I ruin it, well, I've got parts for the next one I get.
I replaced a touch sreen today, its not that bad if you have soldered before. Unfortunatly the screen i got of ebay is not perfect and will need replacing. I have contacted the seller to see if he will send me another one.
Its worth doing!

I've soldered plenty of times (a bit out of practice tho), but never something like that.
Any tips and suggestions? My main worry is melting the ribbon cables.
Well, no real tips, just take you time and don't rush it. The plastic can stand quite a bit of heat, i never managed to melt it, The job looks harder that it realy is. you will need a steady hand! Also , taping the connector down before you solder helps.

Ok, that's good to know. The plastic didn't look all that durable, but if it's stouter than it looks, I may check with the house controller (aka CFO aka my wife ) and see if we can spare the dosh to pick one up.
I have to be careful as she wants it once it's fixed!
how do i separate touch screen and lcd? i only need to solder the new touch screen, right?

There is a disassembly guide in the wiki.
What kind of screwdrivers are needed to remove those tiny screws on the LCD/ digitizer casing. I have 2 SX66's with broken LCDs and one with a broken digitizer. Time for some repairs.

Interesting. Looks like the LCD used varies depending on when the phone was made.

Cables and the wiki. The link I posted shows the difference between the two.
And yes, you will have to get the same LCD assembly/glass cover as what you have now. The two are not interchangeable.
There is a tool set you can purchase at radioshack that has the proper tip. Its a cheaply made tool but does the job. It is one of the kits with many bits. It would be the star tip. You can also order the tool online. I've taken mine apart a few times. Its sort of a pain but gets easier the more times you do it (replaced my screen three times). I have however, never been able to get the touch to work again because I can't really see how I would be able to solder such a fine ribbon. Ive had my mogul for almost a year and if my memory serves me the metallic strips are only about an 1/8th of an inch thick or less. I got lazy and put a piece of tape across the ribbon and put a small amount of glue to hold it down. Still didnt work. Didn't really expect it to either, but it was worth a shot. I turned it into insurance said I lost it and ended up with a broken 6600 and when I called to complain they sent me a mogul. So it's been awhile but I loved the phone. Hope this helps out.
dont scare the people
it can be replaced in 15 minutes with proper tools (screwdrivers)
i ve found some russian manual with pictures how to disasemble the BA (just look for it on the net) and its very easy, no need for soldering
there are 2 versions of displays, one have silver ribbon and the other have golden
when you opet your BA you ll see the display and the ribbon, also there is serial number of the display so you can check it too... all BA displays on the ebay have info about the ribbon and the serial number
I bought it for about 30$ and works perfectly, as original one...
buy digitizer and screen in one piece
you have to be total noob to have problems with changing of the display, so go for it !
If you are planning to replace the digitiser YES you do need to some fine soldering, all you need is the correct soldering iron tip for fine soldering and it is possible, done it about 4 times so far and everytime I promise myself not to brake it again but hahaha,
You can buy the LCD + digitiser together if you are unable to do soldering,
I use a razor which i took out from my shaver and thats what I use to seperate digitiser from lcd.
There are very cheap digitiser panels on EBAY, However some of these are not so good and ( digitiser is a 2 layer glass assy.) sometimes little area of this 2 layers stick together making touch screen non responsive.
Alternative is look out for spares, repairs sales if the screen is good buy it replace it, if you are a novice when it comes to these things, just take your time and dont rush it, even if it helps make little notes when you are opning the device as it ll make it easy when it comes to puting it back together.
And if you can get your hands on one keep a spare screen
Im sooo sad
I just cracked my screen I really hope I get a replacement cus I got more attached to my BA ever since I found out I could upgrade it. I thought it was not a biggie crashing it because I have dropped so many times and nothing happened but today something happened...
screen is 30$ at ebay, and no need to be sad, in few days it can be fixed
Hello guys,
10 minutes ago my galaxy note N7000 screen cracked in my pocket.
So I need to buy a replenishment screen from Samsung but I simply can't find stores that supplies replenishment parts for it. Do anyone knows where to buy a new Amoled LCD screen for galaxy note ?
Thank you and best regards,
Amid
ebay, took 5 days to ship from HK to NYC. Follow youtube guide in opening the note and use blow dryer/heat gun to loosen the sceen, wedge open with something sharp and slowly tear back the screen gently. You will need the old Wacom sensor from the broken screen so becareful to not to rip it. There is guide in the general section. I broke mine 2 weeks ago and replaced it in a hour. take your time you can get it done.
Thanks man. Just to be sure, the price is about US$ 230,00 for it ? i am not sure if I am looking for the right spare part.

I think this is what you are looking for:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/S-Black-Dig...087?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item2c65951cd7
I can try but I don´t think this will help the problem. The screen doesn´t show any images anymore, looks like a broken LCD. When you press it, a lot colors appears around it. Do you believe this is the one I need ?
Thank you and best regards

Hmmm no, in that case you will need the 200ish one.
You will need the entire setup, glass, LCD, and Touch. Does not come with Wacom sensor. Looking around you can get them for 230-260. Look for delivery, that makes a huge difference, especially with your phone out of commission.
This is the guy I purchased mine from, but I panic and purchase the first one I saw. If you do some research you will find cheaper, but I got min in 5 days. So I am glad this guy came thru. Good luck, its going to stress you out a bit when you have to remove the screen from the front panel, they are glued on so take your time. Looks like your LCD broke so it is going to crack and shatter further so make sure you do it in area where it is easy to clean. If you look at the front panel after you remove it, you will see one wire that does not come with the replacement one, that is for the wacom sensor, so be careful and don't damage that part, you will need to peel it off and place it back on to the replacement lcd, otherwise your s-pen won't work. It's been 2 weeks, my phone is going strong and no sensor or sceen issues. You should get a more protective case, since you probably already blew close to ~$1000 on this phone by now. I have a casemate, otterbox commuter looks like a good one. Once again good luck, you can do this.
Please stop advising people to do something that is not meant to be done and can possibly damage their phone even more. And most likely look completely rubbish when assembled.
The correct repair part is a complete display assembly including everything - the glass, digitizer, Wacom digitizer, AMOLED, bezel, frame abd home button. It costs around 260 dollars on eBay and is relatively simple to install. By installing the complete assembly you don't need to worry about separating the glass and AMOLED or about the Wacom digitizer, since they are all included. Just remove the screws, back housing and motherboard, disassemble the audio flex cable and front camera flex from the old display and put them into the new one. Most displays also require the old charger port flex and speaker module to be used.
The correct part looks like this, for example: http://pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item.view&id=320843198847
Well mine looks brand new, must be the workmanship ;-P But why flame my advise when he is going to need to do it anyways, the screen is completely useless, as was mine. Why don't you keep your assumption to yourself in how it will look or if he is going to ruin the device. If he decides that he would rather live with a crack screen or someone who is willing to do it, there really isn't much options here. What's up with such negative attitude here. Just trying to show him that it can be done.

Replacement screen with 2 connectors
Hello!
First of all I would like to say Thank you for all the resources provided in this forums!
Could someone please help me to find a replacement screen for the International version of the Galaxy Note GT-N7000 with 2 connectors? This phone has the physical home button. All the replacements that I've been able to find have just the first connector. I tried to post a photo hoping to help better explain it, but I can't do it yet.
Thank you in advance for your cooperation!

Hi ,
I think Senior member Justis is right... many of us dont want to do a full screen replacement for 220$...when we can just remove the front screen for 20$..many have done this method successfully... U just need to watch a lot of youtube videos on this and be careful/delicate with the procedure... its possible.
So i dont think what he said was a waste.. Pls keep such remarks to yourself.. He was not wasting anyones time.
Infact you are wasting my time making me read your message and give u a reply.
You know what...im doing a screen replacement too... thats what guys do first. njot jump in and do a full replacement for 220 $.:good::good::good:

hey guys,
a few weeks ago my phone fell down, then I try to turn it back on. the device can be turned on (with htc distinctive sound), but there is no display that appears. ALL BLACK (but phone is working). there is only light at the end of the LCD screen my htc.
anyone know the cause?
IMHO, it might be a hardware issue: a unplugged/broken cable or component.
If so, I would advise you to go to a repair store.
Or in case you feel confident enough to take a look inside your phone yourself, I found this video a few days ago: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2Zc0k994Pl4
But such an operation is at your own risk.
If somebody else could give you other things to try out before opening your phone ?
The way you describe it sounds like the digitizer is damaged and will have to be replaced. I think ebay has them for $30ish with the tools you'll need to replace it. If you're not comfortable with that type of project a cell phone store is your best bet.
edit: make sure you purchase the entire assembly (LCD & Digitizer) if you do decide to take this on because having to separate the LCD from the digitizer is a crap job which requires a heat gun and a lot of patience.
