Speed Dial? - HTC Excalibur

I have owned the Dash for 3 days now and I have yet to find the Speed Dial option. I used it a lot with my Razr and am hoping to use it with the Dash. Any help would be appreciated.

On your Dash:
Start > Speed Dial (The Icon looks like a phone with a green arrow)

Thanks for the reply, but I have tried that. It says that all you need to do is select a contact and go to menu and select Add to Speed Dial. I don't see that option when I click on menu though. What is going on?

Nevermind, I got it to work. You first have to select the number and then go to menu.
Thanks again...

Dialing Rules to prepend an area code in WM5???

This is one of my biggest disappointments on the 6700's and win mobile devices in general WinMobile5 in particular.
In northern Illinois even if you are calling within your area code, you need to dial the area code.
Being as I dial most of my clients only once from my cell, I don't want them all to be added to my contacts. And since I am calling while driving a truck and looking at a piece of paper dialing on the screen. I WANT TO HAVE A PREPEND OPTION for my area code (unless I specificly dial a different one).
Most $39 phones have this option, and most palm phones have this option.
It can't be that hard to program it (can it?).
After doing much searching, and not getting much closer, it seems (per MS website http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/help/pocketpc/useyourphone.mspx#settings ) there may be a phone setting that is not enabled that would enable "dialing rules".
These would be in the same area of settings as network time synch, and voicemail notification, etc..
Does anyone know of any registry edits to show *all* phone settings?
There are a few listed around here and on other forums (mostly the same 'hacks' posted over again all over the place).
I have tried all I've found, and while they have enabled what they say, this isn't included (so far).
What I'm looking for is specificly "dialing rules".
Yes, I know they are listed in network settings, but these do not affect voice dialing.
Anyone have any ideas...
Anyone else wish this worked...
Can anybody help me out here?
hacks, freeware, commercial, black magic rituals, anything???
(I have searched and searched and searched...)
My appologies in advance if it is not, but is this in the right forum??
I really thought I would find some enlightenment here.
fixed dialing
I do believe on the T-mobile they call it fixed dialing

Do they have this on any WM5 devices?

WM5 Fixed Dialing
I was going though WM5's menu on HTC TytN and saw the Fixed Dialing under the Start>Settings>Personal>Phone>More
Fixed Dialing is the last option under the More Tab if this is what your are looking for.
Cheers,
ET

I thought about using this feature, but I could not find how to change its options (such as "number patterns"). Do anyone know how to use it ?
Not sure if this is the one:
Start > Setting > Connections > Connections > Advanced > "Dialing Rules"
Let me know if this work for you.
I believe the O2 dial wizard has this (sort of) functionality. You could use the Calling Card function to, instead of storing calling card prefixes, store the area code for the areas that you are in. Then, when you've entered the number for the person you want to call, you press the button with the Magic Wand and Handset in the Phone program, and it prefixes your number with the prefix previously defined.
You might also consider looking at the MyPrefixDial program (freeware - see http://www.freewareppc.com/communication/myprefixdial.shtml), although I think this only works with predefined contacts....

THIS IS THE MOST LIKELY PLACE - however on the xv6700 (apache on Verizon) this option is not there! (imagine that) anyone know how to get this option to show, so I could play with it?

While it looks like it could be the right place - No this is for network connections (i.e. internet, or VPN) only not for voice dialing options.
Thanks for trying though.

I don't think the O2 dial wizzard does axactly what I need, but I would be very willing to try it out - I have done a little searching for it and haven't found a cab file for it, do you know where one is?

anyone know anything new?
anyone have any new thoughts on this?
Does any other wm5 or wm6 device have anything like what I'm looking for?
I am just giving a bump, I really wish there was a way to do this...
Any clues out there?
Do any win mobile phones that you know of offer dialing rules??
well over 1000 views and no one has any solutions, or even hints at something that may help?
Wow, I thought with all the developing going on here this should be stupid simple, guess not.
Maybe, it's not that important to everyone because they don't have to dial local area codes.
You all will have to eventually you know, it may be months, or years, but eventually everyone will have to.
Ah well, thanks for looking anyway.

Question about 3G icon in new AT&T WM6 ROM

Hello everyone.
My first post here, although I have been an avid reader for a while now. I'd like to say thanks to vp3G and others for the excellent cooked ROMS.
My question: I just started using the new official WM6 ROM from AT&T. My fiance and myself both use AT&T 8525's, and I loaded the new ROM on both of our phones. Now, we can be sitting right next to one other on our couch, and her phone will read as having full bars with the 3G icon to the left of them. Then I'll look at my phone and I have full bars with the E icon next to them.
Would anybody here have any idea as to why? Identical phones, with identical ROMs and identical radio versions, yet she gets 3G while I only seem to get Edge, with the phones sitting side-by-side on the coffee table.
I'm confused on this one ...any ideas? Thanks a bunch in advance for any help and for the great site!
-D.
Is 3G disabled in the com manager settings?
Same SIM cards? (AT&T or Cingular?)

Yes, they are the same. We bought the phones a few months back and both shipped with one of the new AT&T SIM cards with the 3G logo on it. I used to get sporadic 3G at home with the older radio versions, but she has always had rock solid 3G on hers. It's weird, I know.

Well, since you looked under the settings>phone; you have the enable band tab reg edit right? If so make sure this is on Auto.
Couldn't tell from your post if you had this exactly.

I'm feeling kind of silly right now...I'm not sure what you're referring to. I open up the com manager in the lower right of the today screen, and then the left soft key becomes a "settings" tab. Opening that just takes me to the phone setting menu (Phone, Services, Network, etc...).
I haven't made any changes to the ROM, just using what it had available.

Ok. Go to Start-Settings-Phone
See if there is a tab on the bottom that says Band...
If you do then make sure that it says Auto on both.
If not then check out the hermes wiki and go to tweaking the hermes registry...
If your are using the 'official' att rom, and if it's anything like the old roms, then the band tab will not be there...

Problem with new WM6.1 ROM

Hey everyone, got a quick question.
I just finished installing the WM6.1 ROM for my T-Mobile dash, and it looks really nice. Everything is working fine, but I have two small problems.
The first thing is that for some reason, my phone wants to put a + in front of all outgoing calls. So if i make a contact in my address book with the phone number of 212-555-1212 and try to call them, the phone places the call as +2125551212 and I get an error from tmobile saying that 'The international phone call you are trying to make cannot be completed...' I realize that + denotes the international dialing prefix, and I can get around it by setting up all my contacts with a '1' before the area code, but there has to be a simpler solution as this was not the case with the original rom. If I dial a number normally, it doesn't put the + before it. Any ideas?
Lastly, I am having a hard time finding out how to disable the JOGGR from doing in-call volume adjustments. While I like it for scrolling, I find it really annoying in phone calls as it is constantly missreading my face as my finger and adjusting the volume up and down. In the original t-mobile rom there was an option under settings for it, but I can't see it in the new rom. I went into the registry editor and tried disabling one function that looked like what I wanted to turn off, but it didn't work.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
-James
No idea about the + but the JOGGR disable is still in the Settings. It is on the 3rd page, #3 JOGGR.

Thanks for the reply. Yeah, I am able to disable the JOGGR completely using that, but I was hoping for a way to use it for scrolling, but not for volume control.
In regards to the + problem, I went through every option in Settings and couldn't find anything. All the Regional information is correct. I even used the RegEditor to search for + in the entire registry, and it came up with nothing relevant.... Weird. Especially because even if this is an international version, there shouldn't be a + in front of all calls by default, because that would force an international call no matter what country you are in...
Well, I think that it fixed it self in regards to the + problem. Even though I had done so before to no success, figuring that it is running a Microsoft product, a couple of reboots later and it seems to have gone away. Hopefully this isn't a bug that will continue to resurface or is the tip of a larger iceberg.
Just FYI, the + is the prefix for international dialing. If you input all your contacts as +1-404-555-1212 you won't have the problem (1 is the country code for the USA). Another plus to this method is that, if you should go outside the US to a country that uses the GSM network, you can dial your contacts directly via whatever carrier you're on there.

Turn off Message Sent notification...

Hey guys, I know this sounds like a stupid question but, when I send a txt message it always comes up with the message sent notification. Ive been through all the settings and I can not find a place to turn it off. Ive installed advanced tools and the setting there does not work either. I have a tp2 on verizon. If anyone could guide me to the right location to turn off the message sent notifications Id appreciate it. Thanks as always.
Download and install CeRegistryEditor to your Windows PC. Launch it and connect your phone via USB.
In CeRegEdit, go to Connection -> Connect. Then Tools -> Unlock. Observe your phone and accept to the on-screen notification.
Your registry is now unlocked for editing.
In CeRegEdit, browse to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Inbox\Settings. You will see SMSNoSentMessage with a value of 0. Double-click and change the value to 1.
In CeRegEdit, go to Connection -> Exit.
Job done.
EDIT: FYI, the "Sent" message annoyed me to no end also, and this was the first of many tweaks I made to my Tilt 2.
Yeah I did that registry edit. It is already set to 1. That stupid message sent thing still pops up. Its driving me crazy. There has to be a way to shut it off. Thats the only problem I have with my tp2. I appreciate it the help. Any other suggestions?
Huh... mine is already at 1 also. Anything I might be missing?

Static in Calls

I just got a new EVO 4G (at the time of my post I havn't even updated my profile yet). First of all Love it. Was a WM fan but I am a convert as of this phone. My only problem is that on all calls the other person's voice is full of static. I have spoken to multiple people and I have rebooted. No solution to date.
I searched the forums but have had no luck in finding a solution. On sprint forums I found people talking about returning the phone because of static but that does not make sense to me.
I have not tried a hard reset yet, it's next on my list but I wanted to see if there was a solution out there. Also given I have had the phone for 36 hours I have not rooted incase a return is necissary.

I recommend to get more clear calls go to:
1) ##3282# then Edit Mode
2) Put you MSL 6 Digit (If not have it ask sprint with courtesy )
3) Go advanced
4) Change the Slot Cycle Index to 4
5) Change the ACCOLC TO 2
Get clear Voice in the same list find:
EVRC-B -- change to enable
Home Orig -- change to EVRC-B
Roam Orig -- change to EVRC-B
Then Press Menu and Press commit modification and you phone will reboot
Enjoy it

If this doesn't work, since it sounds like you recently got your phone, don't hesitate to stop by the Sprint store and have them check it out. Static is something that they wouldn't be able to make excuses for. Also, I wanted to clarify: the static is coming from the phone's speaker, not when using a bluetooth headset, right?
Yes it's from the Phone's speaker. and I only really notice it when they are talking. I have had it confirmed that I sound ok. I have another friend with an EVO and he is coming over now to switch phones on a call so we can here what eachother hear.

Slot Cycle Index (SCI) to make your phone poll the tower more often. This makes your texts and phone calls come through quicker.
Your Access Overload Class (ACCOLC) determines your phone's priority on the cell tower. The higher the number, the lower the priority
Update: I took my phone in to a service center today so that they could run a signal strength test on it and my phone failed. I've been instructed to exchange it for a new one when they come in.
