I get 8-9 MByte/s from a host on the same switch, so the ftpd isn't slow. The server is doing about 12Mbit/s average with a minimum of 2,7Mbit/s and a maximum of 31Mbit/s, so the interface isn't saturated. The routing from your location to our colocation could be the problem. But I can't do anything against that and I can't test that.
Please let us know if the problem vanished or is still present.

Rapidshare

Please disregard, I just read the thread about the legal issues.
I first wish to thank you all for maintaining this site and freely sharing your updates, experience, and knowledge. This site is a God-Send.
I amposting since I have one question, and not sure where the issue lies, Has anyone else experienced problems downloading form the Rapidshare sites? I get an error about exceeding the allowed downloads but I have'nt downloaded yet. I am thinking maybe something in my IE 7 or another security setting?
Any ideas woudl be helpful since I cannot wait to get to WM6.
Thanks,,,,

Well maybe your connected to the internet using a proxy. and as free user u only can download one file every hour. if you are using a proxy, everybody, who's using this proxy too, blocks you. but its just a suggestion from me.
alternate you can restart your router and try again. this is also a trick to download more than one file in an hour, because you get a new ip.
I had the same issues with rapidshare.
But since the FTP was stripped and most new roms are released through it I have paid for a premium subscription.
It works 100%
And if you know where to look there are loads of other cool software available on rapidshare.

Skyfire Browser Questions/Issues

does anyone use the beta version of SKYFIRE browser? i heard its the best browser out there yet
and also you can edit the joggr to scroll up and down on websites right?
Hmm
Interesting!!!
Yet still a skeptic when it comes to giving out my phone #. Also, it goes with the remote server which is a no no for password sites. It would be fun to try it but also limit you.
well yeah but there has been reviews of the browser as well as interviews with the creator of the skyfire browser on youtube
people are waiting for it to release the official version
from the videos, i can tell that its easily the easiest browser to surf the web with on a windows mobile phone
That's just it...many will wait for a final release if they keep their word and won't charge for it. They are hoping big wig mobile companies will pick it up. Keep the middle men happy and still make it a successful browser.
i signed up for the beta last night. cant wait to try it. looks like it could be cool.
I wonder how easy it will be to use without the touch screen or stylus (IE, with the Dash/Excalibur).

I tried to join their beta 1 before. After giving their my phone #, they sent me a SMS messenger saying they have enough beta tester already.
I joined up with them some 5-6 months ago, and yet i havent been invited to either beta....so perhaps someone with a copy could post it?
Good afternoon.Could anyone upload SKYFIRE?
there is no cracked version available because all internet data is transmitted through skyfire where they authenticate the user and deliver the optimized mobile content.
skyfire browser over 5.99 proxy

Ditto...........
i wish someone knew the answer...
to be honest i dont think a lot of people here have it. if you got it working over wifi post some screens of it or a review or something, let us in on it
i just use this internet3.voicestream.com and name it T-Mobile Web And its good for whatever and i figure that out by myself ... so give it a try and oh yea tha connection is the internet ,,no auto detect ..... and its also good for all operas..

Can you elaborate on these settings? Do you have skyfire and it works with these changes? Are they different or additions to the standard tzone proxy?
My review as i just tried it a bit at home yesterday was that it is much better than opera and IE. I recently tried Opera and i still find myself using the 6.1 IE instead because the fonts and the screen is just much better.
Now if i had skyfire working, i would use that all the time. it is so nice to see the complete web page available. I think it definitely competes with the IPHONE's browser, if not surpasses it. I have no problems with my information showing up on their proxy servers, because how much information are you going to be passing through them, its not like im going to do online banking on my phone. load times were fairly fast, but i was on wifi, don't know what edge will be like.
As far as streaming video, it does work. i went to mlb.com and saw the video play which is cool, however, it does studder a bit when playing, not as smooth as through a pc. but overall, it definitely is an advance in the right direction.
Al Right I'll Explain ......
First : Delete Alll Proxies.....( No Need For Proxies )
Second : Go to Connections.. Create A New Connection Under GPRS..---> Name It ..T-Mobile Web. As It Is.. Access point Is ..internet3.voicestream.com.. no username no password .....matter of fact . just put that in and done!!!.
Third & Final : Go to what ever browser your using (try internet explorer first) go to menu >tools>optoins>Connections.... uncheck box ... Network>>>The Internet.. Now You should Your Page And Now You Can Breathe Now...LOL Your Welcome

We turned off who's online because of the ridiculously slow site speed over the past few days. It helps (a very little bit) to have it off. vBulletin sort of caches options like that, so sometime it appears to be on for some people-- but really it should be off for everyone.
This will be turned back on when we move servers, which I'm hoping (praying!) will be in a few more days.
that so ? makes me wanna laugh

[ROM Distribution Analysis] Villain 3.0pre

Hey everyone, I'm Nathan's (nprussel) ftp host. I was reading through all of your posts in the official Villain thread and saw that some of you had very disappointing download speeds, while others were completely fine. I'd like to use this thread to help me analyze the server load to try and make the next release go smoother.
My server is based on a 100mbps backbone, with 1gbps burst available (obviously during mass downloads like with the release the burst speed will be used up almost immediately).
What I'd like to know is what country you live in, what your download rates were, how long it took you to download the whole thing, and what time you downloaded it GMT. This isn't just for the people who had slow speeds; I'd like to hear from everyone who tried downloading it.
In about 4 hours, I should have some additional server log info to help me with the analysis as well. Hopefully all of this will allow me to setup a better system for distributing the releases.
Update: Thanks for the info so far everyone, it looks like everything is working fine now. I'm mostly interested in the people who downloaded it just as it was released (around 1500 GMT). It's looking like there were about 100-150 people trying to grab it at the same time which caused some bottlenecks.
Isn't it smarter to post that into his topic. And mabye ask NPrussel to post hit into his first post near his download links?
Not meaning to hi-jack your thread, but I'd just like to say thank you for your generousity with the hosting.
I no longer have to upload to 4Shared (phew).
Thanks again.

My end. I've been having issues with my ISP for some time.
I have actually downloaded the ROM from Sheffield, UK today on a friend's generally stable connection, which typically downloads at 400kbps, and I was getting 80kbps, fyi.

Downloaded the ROM 15.00 GMT, got about 1,5 MB/S as an average and it took just under 2,5 minutes. Norway!
Downloaded at 9:00 AM PCT
1.5Mbps!!
Downloaded the ROM around 21.40 GMT, Didnt pay attention to the d/l speed though sorry
It took just under 2mins 30 secs minutes. United Kingdom!
Superfast just like the Rom
3.5MB/s from my home connection in norway and 10.6MB/s from holland
mmmm
Was quick enough for me downloaded it around 3pm GMT, in Sheffield
Fast enough for me 1.5MB/s ---Chicago,Il.
I downloaded yesterday at a speed of 700/kb/s. Location Sweden.

Why not host files as torrents?

Hi all developers!
One thing I have thought about for a while is, why do you upload ROMs and other files to uploading sites like Rapidshare? For me who doesn't have a Rapidshare Premium account this means a lot of waiting.
Just thinking, why not create a torrent of the files? I suppose 99% of everyone here has a torrent client, and if not, uTorrent is not that hard to install .
This would also help the speeds alot, I would at least happily help you seed the files here on my 100/100 fibre connection.
Just some thoughts..
EDIT:
Also I would like to say thanks to all you developers, you do a great job!
Because downloading torrents to phone would be harder than just downloading the files from a FTP or a hosting site!
Just my opinion...
i think thats a good idea!
hate rapidshare n all those sites.....most of the time i download the file on my computer anyway n then transfer it to my sd...

This. I personally download ROM's straight to my phone, unless I can be arsed to edit them first. The wait of 40 seconds to download a file is nothing really. Plus using the author's Rapidshare accounts could actually benefit them.

Yea same here, never thought about downloading to the phone directly tbh. So much easier to do on the computer .
Still, why not use both? The torrent would at least be a great mirror.
It would be really show for the first few people downloading the file, then a lot of people would just download the torrent and not upload anything so it would end up downloading at the upload speed of the creator
Plus it means a lot more uploading

why not create a DC++ hub?

Well thats just bad behaviour by the leechers then...
The good thing with torrents is that the developer don't have to seed at all, just provide the .torrent. Then someone who downloaded it elsewhere can seed it for him (or her.. ). Like I said, I can provide 100 mbit/s up speed at my home and I am sure a lot of other users here would help out too
To be fair, it's a lot of hassle for developers to set it up on a tracker to just get downloads.
File hosts like RapidShare and MediaFire etc, you're always going to get a good download speed so what difference does waiting 30-40 seconds make?

Hehe, I'm maxing out like 100-200 KB/s from Rapidshare and nearly 12 MB/s using torrents...
I'm sorry but I can't see the problem, it is definetly not more work to create a .torrent file (just use a public tracker). The .torrent file is so small that it won't be a problem to host it somewhere, maybe even directly on the forum.

Cause that would mean a lot of people just downloading from the developer. With a .torrent you could spread out the files in a much better way and distribute the bandwidth.
But like I said, these are just mine $(2*10^-2)...

Wouldn't matter, first upload the torrent to a (few) seedbox(es) (community will happily provide these I suppose). Once its done, turbo speed for everyone.

Thanks, both these things are what I was thinking about
I have a computer in a wardrobe working only as file/torrent server so there is at least one seed box for the community.
I am a new member so I had to delete the link from your post, dough.
Well - back up a few months i tried to do exactly that. I seeded the Villain files until 4-5 had it, and because every one else's connection was better than mine ppl didnt download from me anymore - and speed would pick up on the file across P2P
I used uTorrent and created the torrent from within that program and uploaded the torrent to my own website - worked a charm once i had all the settings right...
i think it's a good idea - if not then as a mirror for the RS and Mediafire websites...
Once a couple of 100 mbit upload has gotten hold of the file it will be fast!!!

Aren't you guys jumping the gun a bit on this? How about selecting another provider? Rarhost, dropbox, Adrive.com are other free alternatives Ive used in the past.
Or even Google Sites/Code/Doc etc

Just thought that torrents has some benefits and could be considered... Nice to hear all your opinions
Wuala can be a good alternative to rapidshare or megaupload, it has 2GB for free, or you can share your HD free space for add free space to your account on Wuala. Also can be possible do a groups for sharing, on HTCMania we have created one for files for HTC Desire and another for APKs
http://www.wuala.com/HTC_Desire
http://www.wuala.com/APKs_Android
Everyone can access from web, or using Wuala client using Windows/Linux/Mac and with notifications for new files added.
