I found one on eBay for £96.00 + £4.00 p&p.
150X 8GB OEM SAMSUNG SECURE DIGITAL SD CARD 8 GB G NEW
Looks good.

Gonna test that on Universalinux too?

wonder if it will work in a prophet (JAMin)

Bad luck!!

What IS SDHC compatible?

I was gonna ask that one, so i will ask it anyway!
What is SDHC?
Never mind, i found this information:
http://www.sandisk.com/Assets/File/pdf/retail/SDHC1.pdf#search="sdhc compatible"
But now we need to know whether our Universal is SDHC compatible or not. Has anyone managed to find out if these new cards work with our PDA's?

Maximum capacity for this device: May support up to 2GB
But we know that's already true. So...

This quote is right from the article linked to by the first post here...
The maximum capacity of SD card is 2GB under SD 1.1 of Secure Digital Alliance (SDA) specification; however, by using file format of FAT32, many SD 1.1 host devices can use a 4GB SD card. SD 1.0/1.1 uses traditional "Byte Addressing" scheme which limits the maximum capacity to 4GB while SD 2.0 adopts "Sector Addressing" scheme which can reach the maximum capacity of 2TB (2048GB).

In other words, they 'cheat' to get the Universal and other SD 1.1 devices to see 4G, but that won't work with the 8G cards.
Brett

Would the Universal still not work with an 8GB SD card if that card was partitioned into 2x 4GB's? It certainly would be helpful if someone could try this? You just never know!

re
I guess no one will know for sure until someone tries it. BTW how do you partition a SD card anyways? Do you really think that could work?

hello
if SD 2.0 is the later version then would not all new 4 GB SD cards support "sector addressing" which would limit the ma. capacity to 2 GB

I have a 4gb that works in uni
I keep reading that people aren't able to use anything above a 2gb SD but I have been using a 4gb that I purchased on eBay for pver 6 months now. I used in with the original Jasjar ROM and also with JWrite's, Indra, and currently Helmi's. (not with the WM6's yet though)
It is interesting to note however that it won't work in any of my desktop or laptop systems without the included dongle. Not even the built in SD slot in my TC1100 tablet.
It says it's made by a company called "TopRam" if that helps anyone.
I also purchased an 8gb that SUPPOSEDLY supports SD 1.1 and 2.0 according to the documentation. It took a great deal of hunting to find one that didn't say it was HC and I'm still skeptical as to whether or not it will actually work, but as soon as it comes in and I have a chance to try it I will post the results here if anyone is interested.
I know there are one or two people here who make claims of such things, but if there are any doubters I will take some screenshots of the storage card memory screen if I need to.

SDHC uses a different software for the controller. The hardware is exactly the same. The point I'm trying to make, is that the SD people went to very radical lengths to ensure that there is no compatibility betweens SD and SDHC. They also have two different kinds of memory addressing. Bottom line, you can't use SDHC. Your device must say SDHC, and AFAIK, no PDA is SDHC compatible. With all of that said, I'm a Scoter owner, and we have valid reports of being able to access SDHC cards from a PC, through my device. It may be possible to create drivers for the SD controller, or create some kind of emulator, but that is a long way off. I've seen similar threads about those asking about 4 GB and 8 GB. Unfortunetly most don't understand the difference between SD and SDHC. SD is capable of 4 GB. SDHC starts at 2 GB and has potential in the terrabyte range. In addition, many of the real cheap 4 GB SD cards don't strictly adhere to SD standards, and may work on some reader designs, and not on others. A perfect example is that I bought a 4 GB SD card, that only works on one card reader, but not my PC reader or PDA.

Jason

SDHC Patch
I just read on a forum for Palm Treo that they have a working patch for the Treo which forms compatibility of SDHC on the Treo.
Now perhaps we can take a lesson from them and see what changes where needed to make it work. Besides, you can't tell me that there are more people working of patches for the PalmOS than WM.

well , the sdhc 8gb does not work on my xda exec-universal. so I just bought a 4gbcard "MyMemory 4GB 133X SD" from ebay that is stated as being compatible 21.94 pounds.
I'll just use my sdhc 8gb as an expensive mem stick in my sweex sdhc reader .

got it
So I received my 8gb (supposedly NON SDHC) and as expected, it won't read in my Jasjar. I am going to try and reformat it into 2 or 4gb partitions to see if that will work but I am going guess and say no. It is already in fat32 but it doesn't recognize the card at all in the PDA. Just to make sure it was in fact a full 8gb (7.6gb actually) I copied a handfull of movies (7gb) to it and then ran them on another laptop and it is in fact a good card.
I can't repartition it in XP since it sees it as a removable disk, so as soon as I get my Linux laptop back up and running, I will repartition it there and see what happens. I don't expect much though.

Could you, please, try AKU 3.5 ROM (Helmi 1.3.1 or Ivan B2)?
Because this ROM comes from device which support SDHC.
There were reports also, that Triniti with last Dopod ROM (AKU 3.5)
support Mini SDHC 4GB (maximum for mini SD now).
BTW tell us which ROM you are tryinng.

why not
If someone will send me the link to the rom files, I'll be glad to. I just don't have a lot of time right now to search the ftp site.
Two questions about Helmi's 1.3.1, first, will it support my bluetooth stereo headset like the pdaviet 207 I'm using now does? and second, I don't suppose any of these new roms has the new timechange fix already applied do they? I just don't want to keep reflashing my Jasjar and still having to apply all the reg fixes etc to correct for the new timezone/dst changes.

Guess nobody was in a hurry for me to test using the other ROMs as I have had no PM's with info as to where I can find the ROMS now that they are no longer on the ftp server here.
I find my copy of Helmi's aku3.5 1.3 and tried it with the 8gb (non-sdhc) card with no luck. I assumed as much. Not quite sure where you heard that it had SDHC support but I guess it doesn't.
I had the PDAVIET 2.0.0.0.7 or whatever the latest incarnation was and that didn't work either. I now have Helmi's WM6 1.1 that I put on last night and that one also doesn't work.
I'm sure we have some developers out there who know palm and ppc hardware who can take a look at the "fix" that was created for the Treo which allows SDHC use. I can "open" the prc file but I don't know enough about what I'm looking at to be helpful.
Not sure why this fix is so slow coming. Perhaps not enough people see the need for 8gb cards. I have a 4gb but I have to continue taking off stuff in order to put anything else on because it's always full.

4gb sd card?

Will it work on the xda IIs?
It may. A user on another forum just reported succesfully using a Tanscend 4gb card in his XV6600 even though he was told it would only support 2gb...http://www.pdaphonehome.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=61612
Have tested with 2GB SData SD card myself, works fine. Didn't have 4gb but it should work as well.
The SX66 supported SD list was created back when the highest SD card was like 512meg or 1gig, that's why the supported lists are different
hi, thanks for the replies. i see it everything should be fine using a 4gb sd card.
due to the nature of the BA, and as far as i kno all other fairly recent PDAs they will support all current and future SD cards as they don't suffer the limited memory addressing of smaller less complex devices such as normal mobile phones like nokias and digital cameras
i've read somewhere the SD card standard will theoretically go up to 16gb, lets hope they arn't too far away, and that the BA will support it.
Still hoping some random company will develop and release an SDIO USB host though. Damn the BA not having Compact Flash.

4GB SD Card

Hello,
I am a new Blue Angel user (bought it used) and so excited to get the best out of it.
Well, I am trying to upgrade the storage, and trying to buy 4GB SD Card...
I have seen a lot of
"Dane Elect 4GB SD Cards" on Ebay and
"Transcend 4GB SD Cards" on Amazon, and
trying to buy either one of them.. but I am wondering,
-Are they both compatible? and..
-Which would be a better choice?
Your replies much appreciated.
Best regards,
J.

4gb card
i have a topram 4gb card 150x and all is working ok on my xda 2s with tomtom 6 and mp3s, movies
4GB
I bought a D-Tec 120x 4GB SD Card, had a bit of doubt as I have never heard of D-Tec.
However, I received it today, and so far it works fine! It recognises as 4GB.
To clarify this a bit more for people -
There are two types of SD cards right now:
SD (1.1)
SDHC (2.0 - HC stands for high capacity). A good primer on the changes can be found here: http://www.sandisk.com/sdhc/SDHC.pdf
Basically, what you need to know - any card that is regular 1.1 (8mb -4GB) will work in the BA. Any card that is 2.0/SDHC (4gb -32gb) will NOT work, as 2.0 is NOT backwards compatible.
The problem here, as you may notice, is that some 4GB cards are teh 1.0 version, and some are the 2.0. If you are not careful, you may buy the wrong card, and end up with something you can't use.
Now, it is possible that some SD devices can only address values smaller than 4.0GB. But, assuming the device is FULLY 1.1 compliant, a 4.0 1.1 card should work just great.
Here is an example of the differences -
This is a 1.1 card:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16820183017
This is a 2.0 card:

4 GB MicroSD, does it exist? does it work?

I've done a lot of searches, but I haven't found any thread that solves my doubts...
I have a 2 GB Sandisk MicroSD in my HTC P3300 and it works perfectly (in fact I never suffered the corruption bug), but this is very few storage for me so I need a 4 GB memory card. My questions are:
1st - Does it exist any 4 GB MicroSD (not MicroSDHC)? I've readen some posts talking about them and I've seen some links in eBay shops, but nobody has confirmed if they are fakes. Anybody could tell me if 4 GB MicroSD exist and where to buy them?
2nd - If you have a 4 GB MicroSD, have you tested it in your HTC Artemis? Does it work? Have you got WM5 or WM6? Official or "non-official" ROM?
3rd - If you have a 4 GB MicroSDHC, have you tested it in your HTC Artemis? Does it work? Have you got WM5 or WM6? Official or "non-official" ROM?
I've opened a poll to know more clearly if I have the possibility to upgrade my storage card or I'll have to bear with that poor 2 GB Sandisk... Please, vote and write a post telling which brand/model of Artemis and MicroSD/MicroSDHC do you have and what operating system and ROM version do you use
Sorry for my bad english, I hope you haven't suffered to understand this message
Thanks
Nobody has tested a 4 GB MicroSD/MicroSDHC in his Artemis? I cannot believe it!
Regards
Someone did test a 4gb card and it didn't work for hin. On my phone right now so doing a search would be a pain. Search for sdhc in the Artemis mobile 6 forum and you should find it though.

Thank you for your answer
The thread you were talking about is this one. In one of the last posts a person says that he/she has tested a 4 GB Sandisk MicroSD in the Artemis with negative results, but doesn't specify if it's a High Capacity MicroSD (MicroSDHC) and in which OS the test was done
I would like to know more opinions and to see votes from people who has tested also a 4 GB MicroSD (HC or non-HC), I'm sure that there are more users who has experience with this kind of memory cards and we all would have a more clear idea if they tell us the detailed results
Regards
Well if you or someone can point out a couple 4 GB cards that are available in the U.S. online I will buy up to 3 to test just to try and bring some closure to the question.
The only 4GB micro SD card I could find was out of stock (J&R music). Based on a little searching it seems to perpetually be out of stock. I added myself to get an alert should it come in however.
I have done a bit of research and I am pretty sure the P3300 will not work with a 4GB card, but I am willing to try.
It is not the traces or the pinout on the card as many have surmised that is the problem though. The SDHC uses FAT32 whereas SD uses FAT16. So unless the system has the capability of reading FAT32 the question of circuitry is moot. Everything I have read points to 2GB being the limit for non SDHC and that the P3300 does not support it.
Another common misconception seems to be that there are non SDHC 4GB micro sd cards. I see no evidence that this is the case. Furthering the improbability is the fact that the Fat16 has an upper limit of a 2GB partition. (There is an exception to this where the FAT16 uses 64K clusters, but this is unlikely to be done or work in ANYTHING without custom drivers. I never even heard of this till I did this research.)
None the less I would be happy to be proven wrong.
I've read a thread somewhere in this forum where a senior member (or was it a mod?) had drivers to make the artemis sdhc capable which usually is not possible if the hardware is not built for that. Search for it and maybe you'll find it.
I have read most of those threads and none are conclusive.
You also can not do anything with drivers if the hardware is not already compatible. There is not any question that the p3300 does not officially support microsdhc.
The debate rages and a thread like this keeps coming up.
From what I've read so far, the only thing required is a SDHC driver. There should not be problem on the hardware side.
Some say the WM6 ROMs have SDHC driver. My Wizard has WM6 and the driver on it looks different, but I don't have a SDHC miniSD to verify. Ultimately, to prove it works on Artemis, I need a 4Gb SDHC microSD so I can try the stock drivers and may be copy the drivers from my Wizard.
SanDisk 4GB microSD-HC DID NOT WORK on MDA compact III
Hello,
I`ve an MDA compact III which was delivered with WM5 OS. I`ve an 2GB microSD - Card from Sandisk, working perfectly. A little bit small that thing for my big fingers... =
Now I was searching for higher capacitys of microSD - Cards and found an SanDisk microSD-HC with a capacity on 4 GB. Bought for app. 60€ and testet on my device: NOTHING. No work. The WM5 OS did`t recognise the Crad. The card is`t shown inside the System. It seems like NO card inside the device. The card is OK. There was a little USB reader in the package, where I can access to the card.
OK, maybe it is the WM5 OS and I decided to upgrade to WM6. (German O² OS using the UPL method...) The upgrade was done in 10 Minutes, but the card works NOT! The same reaction like on WM5.
Now I`m wayting for an patched OS with (maybe) an SD-HC driver inside. Let`s pray...
Best regards, Sven
The Artemis is not able to read/write microSDHC Cards. The Interface of the Artemis permits only FAT16, microSDHC works only with FAT32. Artemis cannot recognise it. Normal microSD with 4 GB if should be at least recognised.
JanetPanic: Before opening this thread I had done many searches to get information about SDHC, and I know that SDHC compatibility is a hardware problem rather than a software/drivers problem. However, I hoped that our HTC Artemis had a SDHC compatible slot, looking at HTC Trinity's example... By the way, before the Artemis I had a Dell X51v with a 4 GB SD (non-HC) that worked like a charm; I expect that in a -near- future there'll be 4 GB MicroSD cards
lSSBl: Very interesting your MicroSDHC "review", althought you have ruined most of my hopes. Let's pray that future WM6 official ROMs will give the Artemis the ability to read MicroSDHC cards
AlfredENeumann: I tell you the same as JanetPanic, the HTC doesn't have officially a HC compatible slot and however it supports that kind of memory cards. Let's pray...
Regards
@AlfredENeumann
You're wrong. The Artemis accepts FAT32 as well as FAT16 SD cards, no matter if WM5 or WM6. But that has nothing to do with SDHC, what till now doesn't work with the generic WM6 drivers.
perhaps a solution: http://msmobiles.com/news.php/6308.html
http://www.sandisk.com/Assets/File/pdf/retail/SDHC1.pdf
That means, that the SDHC card is NOT backward compatible - you can't format it with FAT16, but you can format any 'normal' (micro) sd- card with FAT32, and it still works at the artemis. Tested by me, and a lot of other guys.
Has anybody Tried the SDHC driver from the HTC Trinity yet?

4 gb micro dilemma
Hey guys... see if you can help me out.

Not sure what to try, open to any suggestions.

crap
Actually, after I've tried the 4gb Micro and installed the Trinity driver.. NONE of my storage cards are recognizable now. So I removed the driver.. and STILL none of my storage cards are recognized. BUSTED?!? Not sure how to fix this?

SanDisk have just announced an 8GB micro SDHC.... time we got these SDHC cards working in our devices! Anyone have any input on how we can find out if this is possible?
Sandisk 4gb SDHC no go
Hi all, just to let you know I tried all the WM6 rom's on these forums (thanks to all), reformated my sandisk 4gb microsd card fat 16/32 but no go..
(my 2gb sandisk card works fine with fat16/32), even tried trinity driver no go.
Hopefully the new WM6 rom from HTC this week will support it.

Fujitsu-Siemens C550 / N560 SDHC Card Driver with working WiFi!

SD High Capacity memory card drivers for Fujitsu-Siemens C550 and Fujitsu-Siemens N560.
After installing this driver you have working WiFi!
Created by GreateVK and FreePK
This is really exciting stuff!!! unfortunately i won't be able to try this out until 1 month later as my N560 is critical to my daily routine until then (which is also when i'll be finally giving WM6 a go).
Been waiting for this for a long time... any more info? supported capacity? restrictions? compatibility?
GreateVK,
Will this work on an N560 with the original WM5 ROM, please?
Or does it have to be WM6 or WM6.1?
Thanks...
It works great on my N560 with newplow's WM6_016_net3_5 rom so far
Thank you master2048 for answering my second question.
But has anyone got it working on an N560 with the original ROM?
Does it install to main (user re-writable) memory or does it change a portion of the ROM image? If the former, then it might be possible to try it on WM5 devices and then revert by uninstalling the patch if it does not work...
Great work.
I use it on my N560 with original WM 5 ROM, and i use 8GB SDHC, so it works very well. Wifi is OK.

can anyone comment on the speed of using SDHC? is it really able to sustain the Class speeds? cuz currently my Transcend 4GB 150x non-SDHC is really slow, but I know it's partly the card's problem.

I have a Integral Class 4 16Gb SDHC. It is hard to say if it is any quicker than the Transcend (which I was using before applying the SDHC patch). I agree the Transcend was not zippy. But the Class 4 SDHC seems very fast. It is obviously imited by the Loox addressing/reading speed and therefore may not be able to take fulladavantage of the potential higher transfer speeds.
However, the few tests I have been able to run e.g. copying 8Gb of stuff on from a PC to the SDHC card in the free card reader that came with mine, was very quick. And there were thousands of files... large 300Mb plus and lots of small ones circa 1Mb. Also video playback on TCPMP was just the same as with SD cards - this would be a good test of sustained transfer rate....
So the performance in my judgement is the same and possibly better.
WM6 Rom
I bought Fujitsu-Siemens C550 recently and it came with WM5. Could some body let me know where can i get WM6 rom for this device.
I've installed this SDHC driver on my N560 with Team's 777 WM 6 ROM and so far so good . But I'm using a regular SD 2 GB. Now that I can get a large SD I may go for 8 GB .
THANKS TO THE DEVELOPERS
works beautifully
Problem aftet Hard reset
Aftter Hard Reset, the SDHC driver is gone. My N560 did not recognized the 8GB SDHC card any more. I had to reload the SDHC driver from the PC and only then I could activate my SPB Backup file.
Is there a way to add this driver in such a way that it will survive hard resets? Otherwise it will be a mess if someone needs to restore while being away from his PC
Please advice
I belive that there's an N560 ROM that has it built it. But you could carry a small capacity SD with a full backup, once you have it up and running you could put your SDHC again.
It may sound a bit trivial, but I'm using an old low capacity SD card (64MB !) for just having the driver stored there.
After a hard reset I would first use this SD card to install the driver, then using my (standard) HCSD.
SDHC driver
Yes, that's what I'm doing too (low capacity SD with important system files).
But anyhow, is there a method to "burn" a driver into the existitng WM 6 ROM of N560?
Thanks
Bettet solution
I managed to store the SDHC driver file (some 32KB) on my mobile phone memory (internal od memory card). Then by connecting via Bluetooth's file transfer profile, I can transfer the driver to my Hard Reseted N560 and continue from there. No need to carry an additional SD card (which can get lost easily), no need to access a PC and my phone is always with me.
Thanks for this it is fantastic my N560 is finaly working with HC card and Wifi is on THANKS:
Thanks ! it was the ultimate improvement I was waiting for on my loox...

SD Card and headphones

I have few questions about BA. First: what is the biggest memory card that can be used in this model? Second: can i use normal (not original) microjack headphones with BA?
P.S. Sorry, should be in accessories, by bad.
To my knowledge, any SD-card will work. That means any real SD up to 2 GB.
Larger cards are either outside the SD-card specs or SDHC, both won't work in a Blue Angel.
Dirk
when i got my universal, there was a 4gb sd (non-hc) with it and i also tried it with the BA for compatibility. it actually worked. so, maybe if you try before you buy, you have the chance to purchase a 4gb sd card, that is compatible with the BA. but with 2gb card(s) you can't go wrong as to my knowledge there are no 2gb sdhc cards or by any other means incompatible cards.
about the headphones there are some threads in the accessories section, that explain, why it won't work, like -=this=- for instance.
thanks for help
EDIT: i've asked some BA users and they said that they are using 4GB non HC cards ... and i found that model but it was rly hard... hope it will work...
I also have a 4gb card for the last two years and it works fine
I am using a regular SD with capacity of 4gb and an adaptor so I can use a regular earphone
cheers mate!
What make are your 4GB sd cards?
