Dual Carrier sim? - Upgrading, Modifying and Unlocking

Hello folks,
here is my situation, I work at a cingular store and in our market our service seriously blows. In fact I carry a Wizard on Tmo . Problem is that Cingular wants me to carry one phone (I have an E1000 for my cingular employee line). now I have heard of these dual carrier sim cards in the past and would like to construct one, however I cant seem to dig up enough info. if someone could please give me a nudge in the right direction I would like to have my cingular line on during the day (but really use skype, thats how bad we suck) and my Tmo line on when No One is looking.
Also , has anyone had any sucess removing the carrier logos without destroying the housing?

Unlock Sidekick?

My friend had service with TMobile a while ago. He no longer has service with them anymore, but still has his B&W TMobile Sidekick. I know its possible to unlock phones, but realize it might be different in this case because its not exactly a regular phone. He uses it for the organizer, im not sure if he'd want to go online with it or not. Would it be possible for him to sign up with AT&T prepaid since he wouldn't use it as much, take the sim card out of the phone that it comes with with the prepaid service and use it in the sidekick? I assume the sidekick would have to be unlocked first (is that even possible) so it can be used across networks?
If its possible what would i need to do it?
Just wondering if its possible, tryin to help a friend out,
Thanks,
~J
Send the phone to me, I will unlock it for you!

Which SX66? AT&T or Cingular? There is a Differnce!

I just received my new Siemens SX66 from my Cingular provider. I tried to upgrade to the 1.33.110 firmware from the Siemens Website and got an invalid Country ID Error. In Contacting Siemens, they said that I have an AT&T variant version of the SX66...
So my Question is, since AT&T does not really Exist anymore, will my AT&T Variant SX66 be supported by Siemens/Cingular?? Should I return the phone and switch to a Cingular Plan?
I dont want to be stuck with a phone I cant upgrade or be forced to toss because they get rid of the AT&T SIM Cards or something...
Thanks,
Scott<-
In a word, yes.
If there is in fact a difference, then you're likely going to continue to have problems, unless and until Siemens makes modifications to the ROM to allow your unit to update.
If you are/were with AT&T, and then got absorbed by Cingular due to the buy-out, the quickest way to an answer is to return your current unit, and then "switch" providers to Cingular and get the SX66 from them.
I hope that helps. Good luck!
Thank you for your reply.... I had a feeling that this might happen. )-;
Now after all the people I know and have spoken with at Cingular/AT&T, there is no one who will understand my issue to help me out... I'm sure of it...
Any Advice?
Yeah... scream and yell until someone listens. Talk to managers and supervisors. Talk to regional/district managers... Talk to Level 2 tech support.. Someone there MUST listen. If they don't, return everything, import a PDA2k or XDAIII from O2 via eXpansys USA and then pop your SIM in the slot. That's what I did... Cingular doesn't even know, and doesn't NEED to know what phone I'm using. They've said that much themselves.

All 8125's belong to Cingualar ??? what is going on?

I am a Cingular subsciber, I have a choice to make between the 8125 and the Tmobile mda. I know i can get them unlocked. My problem is my buddy has an unlocked mda and he is using it with Cingular he has unlimtted media works for 19.99....... which is just like the internet only cingular thinks he is using the htc 2125. Now the phone i can get on ebay is an unlocked cingular 8125 and when i called cingulr they say if i get that phone i have no choice but to get one of their pda plans. the pda plan is $39.99 per month plus my plan with the minutes which will be $59.99 plus the $39.99. If i get the mda i can do like my buddy did my question is since the 8125's on ebay are unlocked won't cingulr's system recognize the ime number and know that i am using the 8125.... the unlocked 8125's tthat i have in mind are abut 50 to 60 bucks less than the unlocked mda .... what should i do .... please advise
I am on Cingular with the media works package, they sold me that package when I purshased my sx66(Also a PDA/Phone). just tell them you have an existing phone and would just like to purchase service with a new sim, Tell them what you want, dont let them tell you what you need.
however with that being said I do believe a while back on Cingulars forums there was some talk about people being charged extra while not being on the pda plan. I personaly have not had that problem.
yeah the were
they were charged becasue cingualr does have the 8125 and if you buy an unlocked one the system registers you as having an 8125. I think i may be safe to get another mda not the 8125....
if you call cs they can tell you what phone you are using by the ime that registers when you power on the phone if the phone is a cinguar phone. so if you get an unlocked phone but the phone was once in cinguar's system i think they know by the imie number
Should of specified that I myself have the 8125 from cingular, purchased it the week it came out(not through my cingular account). My bill has not changed. $19.99 unlimited media net.
If you are worried about it I would just go with the MDA(Wiza200), and flash it with a cingular rom.
Looking now
I am looking at it now. The 8125 has a better feel to it. I really want and need to get a phone today. Which do you reccommed..........
The MDA or the 8125 I can get them on ebay right now brand new sealed in the box.
The MDA total is $430 it includes overnight delivery
The 8125 is $420 it includes overnight delivery
I have my prophet on cingular with the $19.99 unlimited data plan and they just think I have an 8125. They have never asked, or charged me more. After talking to dozens of people at Cingular, I don't think most are technical enough to check up on your IMEI to find what phone you are using. Sad, but I can throw most tech support people under the bus in terms of knowledge of pocket pc and smartphones, and all I do is read forums.....
My question is
My real concern was that they will eventulaly know about an unlocked 8125 if they start racking up charges..
Are the imei numbers on the MDA's and 8125 and 2125 similar. If they are similary I can get any one of them. If not I will problably go with the MDA. My questions to you guys is which is smaller and which is better with reception The MDA or the 8125
I am a Cingular Customer. I know the support people blow hot air they read from scripts.
Prophet
Hey does the prophet have a slide out keyboard.
HELP HELP HELP
Looks like I may be stuck getting the 8125 .. the one for the MDA has ended. I need to get it overnight so that I can get my Nokia E61 back from the wife. I was trying to get the MDA due to my data plan concerns with cingular and due to the fact that so many people have told me that the MDA is smaller and more sleek in appearnce. My wife dosen't seem to like the phones that look like bricks. Someoen help me out here
should i just find anohter mda or will it be okay to get the 8125
what are these MDA's more expenvie than the 8125. I also hear that the 8125 cannot do wi-fi G
I have an 8125 and the $19.99 MEdiaNet Unlimited plan. Cingular may be able to read the equipment type, but they havent for me.
I bought my 8125 off of eBay. Previously I had a V3. I just popped my SIM in the 8125, called them up and said I wanted the unlimited MEdiaNet plan for $19.99.
Using with or without proxy enabled, I show 0 data charges on my bill, as I'm on the unlimited plan. With the proxy enabled, I can't check my GMail account, so I usually run without it. The only thing you don't get if you are missing the Proxy is the ability to go do http://device.home and browse the Cingular MEdiaNet site and buy ringtones/games and whatnot.
Guess Not
Guess there's no more help on this end. Cool let me try another forum. Thanks for your help. I will get some more info. I may just have to bite the bullet and goto Cingular to buy the phone.

A Qwest/Sprint CDMA Question.

I have been looking for a while but found no difinitive answer for this question which makes me think it would be tough, but here goes. My friend had Qwest cellular service in Minnesota and had an HTC PPC 6800 with them. At the time that he had this, Qwest's service was actually rebundled Sprint, but with a Qwest badged phone. While he and his family's business had an account through them they were forced to go to Verizon for their carrier and in turn he recieved the Verizon version of his phone, the VX6800 I believe. After he had switched providers with Qwest he had his old 6800 still laying around and gave it to me as I had done some work for him and his family's business developing a VPN and remote server management tools and started to develop a Linux PBX for them. My questions are this:
1. Is it possible to use this phone with my Sprint/Nextel service?
2. What are the steps I need to take to make this possible if I can indeed use this.
I understand about flashing ROMS and whatnot, but, do I need to do anything first to the phone to "unlock" it to work with Sprint and then load custom Firmware? Or can I just use something like DCD's Titan Kitchen to make this phone work with it?
My part time job is working at a Radioshack and I talked to my Sprint rep about swapping the ESN on my account from my old Nextel phone I have to this 6800 and she said it should be no problem if the phone could be unlocked. I really hope there is a way I could get this to work as I would hate to see a perfectly good smartphone go to almost total waste since a company decided to change their contract and make all their users switch to a new phone company. I know it could still be used to some things but I could just buy a smaller PDA and carry my phone with as well but that is not what the whole smartphone movement was about now was it? Thank you very much for listening and thank you in advance for any help that you might be able to provide.

[Q] HTC One X on Softbank (Japan)

Hello,
So I gave Softbank a chance to bring a good international handset but they are just too involved with Apple they dont have much interest in Android. 2012 summer line up is a joke.
So I decided to buy an unlocked HTC One X. Unfortuntely I need to be in Softbank because all my family is in Softbank. Also I'm a little chicken when it comes to changing APNs and all that unofficially and running the risk of paying a lot of money for data.
So I called Softbank and asked them about getting their SIM for my own handset. The rep was constantly saying that they dont recommend it and I should first bring my handset to them to check. I know they will not pass HOX because its micro sim. Softbank does not support micro sim on this service.
And now I'm stuck with two options:
1) Use my existing silver SIM contract (not pre-paid)
2) MNP to BMobile
I want to ask you guys if any of you have just plugged your SIM (after cutting it) to HOX and it worked? I know 3G data will not work but voice and SMS?
Also, if I do not put a APN and just disable 3G data, would the phone work as normal? I do not want 3G as I'm mostly in a wifi area and I carry a WiMax when I go out.
I would appreacite any information on HOX on Softbank.
Thank you.
I gave my sim card the chop-chop and It's working fine inside the HOX. Go for it man, no problems at all as long as you know where to cut.
Sent from my HTC One X using xda premium

I just got my one x today. It's the international unlocked version. I just cut my sim card and put it in and it works perfectly. Don't worry just cut your sim and if you don't need wifi then disable mobile network, it will save you some battery as well.
Thanks Asavva.
If you dont mind can you give me some more details? As where you bought the phone (i'm going to buy from Expansys), and if you changed the APN settings etc.?
Also did you insert a black iphone sim or a normal silver sim?
Appreciate the information
Thank you Barondebxi.
Have you been having any issues with the phone? Wifi, screen?

No problem man. I've had the phone for 5 hours now ( it came from FedEx this afternoon here in the US), no issues at all. It's a very good looking phone. Wifi works very well, screen is AMAZING! I've already installed 2 updates. My phone was on 1.26, then I installed 1.28 and now 1.29.
Thank you.
I'm evry worried after reading all the issues HOX is said to have: wifi, screen flickering, battery heating, scratches on the screen, etc.
But I just cant make up my mind to go for GS3.. this phone is just too gorgeous..

Well it's funny cause for me, I had the galaxy s 3 preordered since yesterday morning. But they have delays because the supply is short so I bought the one x and got it delivered in 1 day. BUT personally I'm still going to buy the Galaxy S3, itt will be my main phone and this one will be my back up phone. Not to say it isn't as good but I'm more of a Samsung guy I guess. Nevertheless, this HTC one x is a beast! It's reallly the best thing HTC as ever released without a doubt.
Thank you Barondebxi.
I dont have a preference to either, its just that HOX looks better and I like the build than the GS3 plastic frame.
But I'm gonna give it a couple of weeks and see. Its very important that wifi works. Else I have no use from the phone. If the issues seems to persist I might as well go with a GS3.

Either phone you choose you will be happy. But if you're afraid of running into some issues, I think the S3 is a better choice right now. But both are epic phones. Ok I'm going to bed. Take care!
I completely agree, SoftBank's Summer 2012 line-up was not worth waiting for. As of now, I live in Japan, but don't have a Japanese phone and was planning on going with a Galaxy S3 whenever docomo wants to release it... however, I do believe I would like the One X more. Are you certain that if I bought the international version, that it would not work with SoftBank's 3G?
Yes. Softbanks 2012 line up was crap. Just some Sharp phones.
I was originally planning on MNP'ing to Docomo and get a GS3. With the MNP discount it'd been a good deal.
But since my family are on Softbank it'd be cheaper for me to be in SB. Also I'm liking HOX more than GS3. It's one sexy phone. GS3 is more like a slightly modified GN and I'm hating "prebble blue".. what were they thinking!? And I'm not a white phone person.
I\m pretty certain that international unlocked HOX will work on SB, but you will need to have a SIM. SB will not provide you with a SIM for HOX, unless you buy a pre-paid version and use that SIM. I have seen on web that HOX works with SB network, but for 3G data you wil need to find the APN details. The one on the web are for iphone (black sim). I think the APNs are different for silver SIM. I also asked from Expansys and they said HOX works on Softbank, but I cannot guarantee whether they actually know it for a fact. But there is no reason it would not as it supports WCDMA (this will not work on AU though). Let me know if you go for it.

Your first paragraph consists of my exact thoughts and plans, although I have no family here, it seems like my co-workers use either docomo or SoftBank. The only way I'd go with SoftBank however is if 3G on the One X works with their network.
I'm hoping one of my friends still has his SoftBank iPhone microSIM card. If he does, I'm going to ask him to mail it to me, then buy the One X from Amazon and see if it works. According to Wikipedia, SoftBank runs on 1500/2100... the 1500 band that the One X doesn't seem to support. What are your thoughts on that?
Have a look at these links Habbit.

http://www.maru-kajiri.com/2012/04/htc-one-x.html
I highly doubt HOX will not work on SB network. I use a Desire from SB now and the radio is the same as HOX. I doubt SB changed the baseband of HTC phones. And if the SB iPhone SIM works on HOX, there is no reason for it not to work on HOX. I doubt the frequencies are different for iPhone (black SIM) and other (real smartphones (silver SIM).
BTW, why would you buy from Amazon (Amazon Japan I suppose)? They are little expensive than Expansys and also Expansys offers extended warranty. I'm not sure the warranty of when you buy from Amazon (because I dont think its directly sold from Amazon Japan). I thought if I buy from Exapansys it'll be easier to deal with warranty and other issues (basically because my Japanese is not good).
Also, as difficult as it is, I;m going to hold off buying HOX for couple of weeks, because of the Wifi issues its been having. I'm gonna wait till Expansys get new stocks and also see how these issues turn up in next few weeks.
Actually I was going to get it from Amazon US (even cheaper than Expansys) and either have my mom ship it to me, or have my co-worker bring it back when he takes a business trip to Colorado. Haha
Are the WiFi issues that widespread?
Yes it is. Particularly with earlier models. Worst, it could be well be a hardware issue.

Interesting... I would really rather have the One X over the Galaxy S3, but that issue could be pretty annoying. How do you discover when Expansys receives new shipments of One X's?
I cut my Softbank silver SIM into Micro.
Enter open.softbank.ne.jp setting in APN.
Get 3G/H, SMS (both sending/receiving), Voice all great.
But I used WiFi most of the time cuz I dont wanna get a huge Data bill from Softbank. Heard so many stories about rumors on the forum.
Still working on MMS setting.

Thank you very much BrianInfo.
Could you please give me some more info regarding the phone.
1) I'm also very worried about getting a huge bill and I want 3G data disabled. So what if I dont put the APN address and leave it blank? Will voice/SMS still work?
2) Can you also share how you bought the phone? and also its HW version number. I'm planning on buying through Expansys but seem there service is not that good.
3) Do you have any wifi issues with the phone?
THank you very much.
How would I go about getting the SoftBank Unlimited Data (Flat-Rate?) plan if I have neither SoftBank service nor a microSIM? Should I have one of my co-workers say they broke their microSIM card or something and ask SoftBank for a replacement for me to use, or should I sign up for a cheap phone and then change my plan after I sign my contract?
