I want to dump my blackberry phone and just use my jasjar. Early reviews of the German ROM with BB Connect seemed to indicate that I would need to download an older T-Mobile ROM with an older radio stack to get BB connect to work.
Can someone point me to a good combination of a more recent ROM (english) with the BB Client software that I can use with a US T-Mobile Enterprise BB account.
thanks,
--Kia
Hi,
you can download the BBC-Client from Vodafone (German version, dunno if there's a WWE one). It's not provider locked like the T-Mobile one and works great with my Uni.
I have the latest qtek rom with radio 1.09 on it.

Blackberry connect working on unversal
I managed to get everything working. Thanks for the link. In addition here is the link to the activesync with the Blackberry desktop software.
http://support.vodafone.de/publicfiles/ActiveSyncInstaller2.1.1.9.zip
First I installed the bbclient on the uni and then the desktop software it read my settings from the other blackberry desktop (the one used with my device) automatically.
Everything is fine except when the Universal is docked it disconnects the GPRS tunnel; probabely firewall issues.
any ideas?

Glad to hear that you got it working.
The disconnect is a normal behaviour. BBConnect will always disconnect from GPRS a soon as you attach the device to ASync. AFAIK there is nothing you can do about.

Use Airfix and checkit out, it will not kill Wireless connection while Active Sync is on. Cheers,
Strange thing - when i turn off my device (having BB client running) after i turn it back on in 10 minutes - BB is down and there is no icon in the taskbar. It does even disappear in Settings !
I've installed BB Connect on SD card.
Anybody experienced anything like that ?
Resolved.
BBConnect HAS to be installed in the main memory - no way to make it work correctly been on SD.
One more issue noticed - from the first try i was not able to see the BlackBerry folders in the list of my messanger. Messages are comming and i can preview them at the bottom of the screen, but when i goto messenger (standard) i do not see anything.
I've created a new dummy mail account and - VOILA ! i can see the BlackBerry folders. After 3-4 hours is disappeared again. :-( . I removed the dummy account and again was able to see the BB folders for a while. Then the whole story repeats.
Don't understand how to overlwhelm this.
Anybody has any ideas ?

Do you know if this software can work with every mobile provider? I'm in spain, using vodafone but they told me doesn't support this sofware and said nothing is available to use BB in a universal...Maybe a commercial matter in order to sell BB hardware...

Dear All
Please help: I have an O2 XDA IIs which MS Activesync 4.1 does not detect, despite all my efforts during the last few days (I also have an old iPAQ 1940 which Activesync detects fine).
The XDA is from work, so could it be that it is somehow locked, and if so, how can I unlock it?
Also, as an alternative, can I sync the XDA with my PC via Bluetooth through the iPAQ's?
Any ideas will be gratefully received!
Many thanks in advance,
L
Hi there,
I've Looked through hundreds of forums and although I have seem similiar I haven't found a resolution to my exact problem.
Due to the fact that I've been trying to resolve this issue on and off all day it's probably something really simple...
HISTORY
PDA
Was running WM2003SE on a Xda IIS.
PC
ActiveSync 3.8 on Laptop with Windows 2000 SP4 and all updates. Laptop on a home LAN with router. No firewall software and have since removed all Spyware removal software, (after doing one last scan).
My Task \ Issue \ Problem
I wanted to to the upgrade to WM2005 and followed all the usual procedures. The one mistake I may have made was to install the very very latest 4.1 Activesync without removing 3.8. However at this stage my XDA was still on 2003SE and synced perfectly with 4.1 Activesync.
I performed the upgrade to WM2005 including patches and as far as the XDA is concerned everything appears to be working.
Activesync however doesn't work. Via the USB cradle Windows 2000 detected a device and under device properties it's was listed as Generic RNDIS, it's now listed as a windows mobile based-device. I don't have an entry in my network connections, although I think this only happens with Windows XP. I've tried uninstalling Activesync, removing the rapi.dll file, reinstalling etc, I even did the former and removed entries within the registry and running a registry fixer but to no avail.
I then decided the Bluetooth route but cannot sync via this method either. I can actually succesfully connect from PC to XDA and vice versa but cannot use these connections for Activesync.
I have another Hard Drive for this Laptop which I use for testing. I can simply shut down, swap drives and boot again to another build. The other build is also Windows 2000 with SP4 and pretty much nothing else. I've installed Activesync 4.1 onto this machine, plugged in the cradle and everything works fine.
So..... I know the XDA is fine, The cradle's okay and Activesync 4.1 actually works with my XDA OS. The problem is it doesn't work on one particular build. I believe this is actually a Activesync issue but due to some form of conflict with my build. It's currently out of the question for me to rebuild so my mission is to find out what's conflicting.
Just to summarise though..... Activesync 4.1 was working fine, I upgraded XDA to WM2003 to WM2005 and then it stopped. The other harddisk proves that Activesync does actually work with my XDA.
Pheeeew...... I hope somebody doesn't suggest lack of information....
So the reason for the post?? Well if anybody else is having frustrations, (which I'm sure I'm not the only one judging my my searching), your not alone.
I think a lot of people's problems have actually been resolved by the latest version of Activesync, (4.1), and other people have resolved by sorting out the main culprit of firewalls.
For me though I'll keep searching..... if any of you can think of any other ideas I can use for diagnosing the problem I'll appreciate it.
Thanks in advance..... sorry for the waffle.....
RESOLVED
Okay.... During further searching I noticed people mentioning VPN clients interfering.
I did have SecureRemote VPN installed which I use for work purposes.
I uninstalled SecureRemote but had to uninstall & re-install Activesync again. This time it's working.....
I will, (but not tonight), re-install the VPN client and see what happens. If Activesync countinues to work then, apart from being happy, it's worth making a note of.
If it doesn't work then I'll start to investigate why...... I know the new active sync does some form of IP connection but I cannot accept that it won't work with VPN's installed.
use windows XP (SP2) ...
first install the activesyn and then restart your computer.
then attach your pocket pc with usb cable.
and try to connect.
its works for me...
I am trying to get my laptop running linux to use my hermes as a modem over bluetooth. So far I am not succeeding, I have paired the phone and the laptop, but no services show up to share. I have sent files over bluetooth to the laptop and that is just fine.
Has anyone else done this? I really don't want to change my laptop back to windows just so I can surf the net using my phone.
Thanks
What distribution of linux and what window manager do you use?
And does the file transfer work both ways? (to the phone and from it).
I might help you a little
Using Ubuntu - Edgy Eft and Gnome.
I don't have a way for files to be sent from the latop, I am using the blue tooth file sharing program - which seems to be one way only.
I did this a long time ago, so I might have forgot something, but let's give it a try.
First check if you have a rfcomm device in /dev/, there should be something like rfcomm0.
And this is there if you have edited and paired your phone correctly!
(you should add your device to /etc/bluetooth/rfcomm.conf)
Try Gnome-PPP, it's a very good program for dialup rutines ^^
Code:
sudo apt-get install gnome-ppp
The gnome-ppp should be run in root mode because rfcomm device has no privileges, or then you could just chmod it.
But anyways, I've made a script for myself to turn on BT and start gnome-ppp, to run it with root privileges with the following command
Code:
gksudo -u root gnome-ppp
after that you see a window with username password etc.
press setup and put in the following config..
Setup
Now we need a init string! I have no idea what is your provider and what init string is needed for it.
In the Setup window press Init Strings...
And in the first place you set the string.
With Saunalahti as a provider I have a init string of:
AT+CGDCONT=1,"IP","internet.saunalahti"
notice that internet.saunalahti is the APN name for my providers internet gprs connections! So replace this with yours, or then contact your provider and ask for that info
Now back to the first window.
My ISP doesn't require any username but you can't connect without them so put in whatever you like for example
username: none and password: none
or
if you need username and password for your providers GPRS, then add them here
For the phonenumber set the number: *99#
Nothing else, that should be it then if I got it all and remember correct
Then just connect (notice that on TyTN there isn't any "connecting to GPRS" popups when you use a PPP from linux).

what do you mean, the "Wireless Modem" program that you can find in the Programs folder?
I never used that, there's no need of it.
In fact, don't use it, propably wont work with it.

I've been successfully using my Wizard and Hermes as BT modems for GPRS/EDGE/UMTS connections, but only with WM5 (check out my tutorial here: http://klamstwo.org/evad/archives/20 ). After upgrading Hermes to WM6 I am no longer able to create rfcomm device, and I don't know why.
However, it is still possible to use GPRS/UMTS connection under Linux! I've managed to get it working through Bluetooth PAN profile. I'm planning to write some kind of tutorial on my blog pretty soon, but in meanwhile have a look here: http://bluez.sourceforge.net/contrib/HOWTO-PAN - this HOWTO describes quite comprehensively BT PAN usage under Linux.
Basically, you need to set up Internet Sharing via BT on your Hermes, and then connect from your Linux using pand daemon. Check out HOWTO, give it a try, if nothings comes up - feel free to ask here. Good luck.
Btw, my distro is FC6.

In WM5 it didn't work even with Windows (or I didn't know how to set it up properly). WM6 brings completely new Internet Sharing application which is accessible from Linux without big problems via Bluetooth PAN profile - check out my post above.
I'm planning to try connecting to internet through Hermes/WM6 via USB cable. I guess it's just a matter of installing some usb-driver. It's worth to try, as UMTS/HSDPA connection together with BT drains battery really (I mean REALLY) fast, and also - USB cable offers higher speeds than BT...
Nice to know, i'm using WM5 atm, waiting the official WM6 release from sweden (I live in finland and tried to contact finnish HTC regarding that matter), then I might look into it more.

It's my first post on this forum. But I'm looking forward to finding a way to use my HTC Wizard has a USB modem...
I've seen on another forum that configuring this device as an USB modem can be quite easy done on Windows. So it would be nice to have this working for Linux

You can get it working as modem the same way you could do it in WM5 - using the "internet sharing " application.
The problem described here is that when you do
$ sdptool browse <bluetooth_mac_address>
you see no services.
I have the same problem with ubuntu.
When I browse the services of another phone - a nokia for example - I see all of them .
However I had this problem with ubuntu even before upgrading to WM6.
So it seems the problem is in the bluez version delivered with ubuntu.
What I am going to try the next few days is to uninstall the ubuntu release of bluez and build the source code and install.
I had an issue with synce also with ubuntu - not working. So I downloaded synce 's sources and everything works now.

This is mainly because the connection method has changed in WM6.
In WM5 it was done via DUN (Dialup Networking Profile). WM6 Internet Connection Sharing does not utilise or advertise this profile when in place, but sets up a PUNU (Personal Area Network) profile, basically turning the Hermes into a router with dhcp services.
I followed the referenced howto and was able to get my laptop running FC6 connected to the Hermes and auto-assigning an IP address. Unfortunately, though, the connection was not stable and disconnects not long after it was established.
I'll have another read at the howto as I've noticed persistent connection flags that should force reconnection, however if I'm connected to the Company VPN, then I suspect that will continually drop also.
Can anyone post any success stories and configuration/command output that they used to create a stable connection?

BB Connect with TMO Dash - repost in the correct forum
Hi All,
I am trying to replace my company issued BB 7520 (Nextel) with a T-mobile Dash. (my personal cell)
-I have downloaded the BB Connect Cab file to the Dash and installed. Ver2.1.2.39
-I have downloaded the BB Connect for Windows Mobileto my desktop and synched the Dash ver 2.1.1.9.
- I synched my Dash, it recognized the new PIN and I created a new encryption key
- I have called Tmo and had them add the BB service to my account.
The Dash is connecting to the TMO BB Network. The identity, Status Services and IT Policy all look OK.
However, I cannot send or receive emails, and my calender is not synching. I have turned off Calender synch in Activesynch. I don't have Activesynch synching anything.
Am I missing something? When I run the BB Connect Desktop for Windows Mobile, I only get panel that looks like the redirector settings on the BB Desktop Manager.
Do I need to run the Desktop Manager when I run the BB Connect for WM?
Thanks in Advance
James
I haven't been able to get BB Connect on my Excaibur afterthe first restart of the device. It does work though if I deselect the radio button for wireless PIM. Anyone know why this (I think the BBconnect service is CICAL) is preventing BBConnect from working?
Help, I am lost now.. I had BB Connect work on my Dash, then I flashed the ROM. I have BB installed and I can receive all my emails no problem, but I can't create new or reply to emails the action is greyed out. Since this is the only way I can email I really need to get this working.
Please help!!
Thanks
I fixed it, I just had to send a service book to my phone and everything works now..

Blackberry Connect using BIS (not BES) on WM6, possible?
I am using a Rogers S621 Excalibur (Carrier, CID, & App unlocked).
On my phone I am running WM6 standard 5.2.1238 (Russian ROM)
On my computer I am running Vista.
I do have a BB Connect data plan on my account.
I have installed the BB Connect software seen here:
http://www.sems.org/entry.asp?ENTRY_ID=228
and here: http://www.sems.org/entry.asp?ENTRY_ID=225
If I try to run the Blackberry Connect Desktop for Windows Mobile it begins to start up and then says "The account is not provisioned properly on the server" and then shuts down. I don't think that is an issue as I believe the desktop client is only for BES.
On my phone when I try to select the BB Connect app and select Register now it says:
Blackberry: Not Connected
Blackberry: Network Available
Blackberry: Data Tunnel Available
Blackberry: Not connected
On the BIS (www.rogers.com/bis) when I select "Change Device" and then enter my PIN & IMEI (found on my phone by selecting Blackberry>Settings>Identity ) it says: "The information you have provided could not be verified. Please check your information and try again".
On my phone when I select Start>Blackberry>Settings>Email Settings it says "Email settings unavailable".
What have I done wrong, or what can I try?
bb connect dont work with wm6...i had it on wm5 but once i updated the rom to wm6 it stopped..happened to all of us.. some ppl got it to work by editing stuff ...but thats jsut too much to go through

What carrier are you on? Rogers?
BES? or BIS?
does this means you are confirming that your S621 is indeed CID & APP unlocked ?? and this is a "software" issue ??
I was starting to get confused with other posts of yours going back & forth not knowing yes or no

And why are you rolling your eyes at me?
And wasn't it a "software" issue the whole time? It certainly wasn't a hardware issue.

BB Connect 4 and WM6
I've just installed BlackBerry Connect 4.0 on my T-Mobile Dash with WM6. It works like a charm...!!!.

Hi, in order for the BB connect to work on the Dash you have to have the BB data plan through your carrier. After you install the cab, go to your website where you can manage your device, pick a blackberry as your current device and then you can send the service books. You can also call your company and ask them to send the, just tell em your using a pearl or something. ANy way after that make sure you update the pin and then your good to go. Oh by the way the current US smartphones cant multitask APN's so you will not be able to access the blackberry.net apn for mail and the wap apn for internet at the same time. In order to use the internet you must suspend the bb connect software. I have a .cab for for smartphones which works if you want one. It was designed for the dash, excalibur, etc. It works great.

BB Connect 4.0 not working on WM6
Hi there,
I have my HTC S621 from Rogers with Blackberry plan and recently upgraded to WM6. When loaded with BBC 4.0. It will not connect (works well under WM5). I have seen some ppl say it works and some ppl say it does not work.
Not sure if there is a way to fix it ?
Here is the info of my HTC:
ROM: 1.27.405.1
WM6 CEOS: 5.2.1238 (build 17745.0.2.3)
radio : 4.1.13.44_02.94.90
Thx.
BB Connect question: Is it possible to change (or get a different) PIN?
Long story short, my BIS won't accept my PIN and tech support has no idea why, so changing my PIN or getting a new phone seem to be my only options.
Hi,
I have a strange problem. I have a Hermes running WM6 (org T-Mob). I can't install software or explore the device from my PC at work. It's possible to sync files, email and almost everything else (exception: I have Pylon Pro running to sync with Lotus notes Shows it's synced but no data is transfered) but other than that I can't contact the device. Explorer shows no contents and when the software window opens all I get is the frame with no content. I had WM5 running und upgraded in the hope of solving this problem but no go. Activesync works fine with my old device (MDA II) running WM2k3SE but not with the hermes. It also works fine at home running the same configuration. Here are the stats:
Hermes with original German T-Mobile WM6 Rom
Activesync 4.5
Windows XP Professional
Has anyone had a similar problem? Any suggestions? Our IS&T department can't find a solution.
Cheers

If it's working on your home machine it's unlikely to make a difference, but I find this - http://toril.ru/pda/akrndisadd.exe - very helpful when activesync stops working, and it's non-destructive (so it's worth trying).

Hi,
Problem is now solved. I did 2 things:
1. Made it Super CID
2. Ran the small prog from the post above.
I'm not sure which solved it but one of the 2 did.
Thanks for the help.
Cheers

Hi,
I take back what I said in my last post. The problem is solved but it has nothing to do with the 2 things I mentioned above.
T-Mobile sets "Settings>Connection>USB to PC>Extended Network Functions Activated" to on by default. Unchecking this box is what solves the problem.
It seems that with this active, Activesync tries to look on the LAN for certain components, which it cannot find. This causes the communication between Win. Explorer and the MDA to not work. It also stops you from opening the "Software" funktion in Activesync (You only get a frame with no contents and the hourglass).
I hope this helps someone. It certainly caused me allot of headaches.
Cheers

hey guys i am not to sure if this is supposed to go here but can anyone tell me why my phone is unable to sync contacts and file with activesync 4.5
more details? what device, what rom? what OS?
i have tried many of the new roms including most of the manilla 2d roms on here i am currently trying tot do it with crc 13 stable and still no joy on a Rogers Htc TYTN
still not enough info, what OS are you running?! what error are you getting when trying to sync?
Activesync 4.5 problem
I'd like to jump into this discussion. I also have a problem with Activesync 4.5 recognizing and connecting to me Herm200. The oddest thing is that it has functioned correctly, but for some reason it isn't any more. I have two of the same device and it is the same for both. I also have a Wizard (T-Mobile MDA) and that device has no problems what so ever connecting.
Here are the specs of the OS installed on the Herm200:
WM5 ROM version 2.11.255.1
Radio version 1.38.00.10
Protocol version 32.71.7020.12H
ExtROM version 2.11.255.102 installed.
Any assistance to resolve this problem would be greatly appreciated.
Try: start menu>settings>connections>usb to pc and uncheck the checkbox
Maybe it sounds bizarre, but also try a different cable, in a different usb port, turn off your computer firewalls, and try cleaning your mini usb on the phone. I got a piece of dirt in mine and nearly tore out my hair until i got it fixed. I had a cable go bonkers, which gave me a lot of grief, and one time the usb port decided it DIDNT like my phone anymore

Hope you can help me..
I just bought a Softbank HTC X01HT, when i connected it to my PC, Microsoft Activesync cannot detect it. But my HTC is charging.
What I did:
1. I am using a new USB cable, tried another USB cable = no success.
2. Tried to sync to another PC = no success.
3. Uninstalled Microsoft Activesync, reinstall Activesync = no success.
4. Did some research, uncheck "Enable advanced network functionality" = no success
5. Hard Reset = no success
6. Connection Settings --> Connect = "Your device was not detected"
COM 1 = Available
COM 2 = Not installed
Infrared Port(IR) = Not installed
USB = USB is available
and it gives the beeping sound (sound you get when you plug in your USB) but nothing happens after.
Btw, im using WM 6.1 Pro.
My Bootloader shows:
HERM200
IPL-1.04
HERM200
SPL-2.03
I'm losing hope.. T_T Hope someone can help me. Sorry for being such a noob. >.<
Thanks in advance!

I have had real buggy Active Sync problems only with the last 2 ROM's I've flashed, Joshkoss's V.10 and PDA's V.27. Both are using build 20759 which I think is the culprit for me.

Oh my..., now I'm the only one that has the Activesync Problem. T_T
Two ROM's that I am using.. Pays ROM Lite & Full - WM6.1 WWE with Big Storage and 27/10/2008 ROM 3.62.502.20 (Manila2D) V.20 Build 20921 by PhamQuang.
What ROM can you suggest to test the Activesync problem? Thanks in advance..
If I'm using a usb cable to connect, how might this remedy the problem? I did try what you have suggested without success.

try using the crc 13 that i used but if it doesn't work right away try either checking or unchecking the box in usb to pc for enabling advanced network functionality
maybe its installin drivers on the computer possibly? because the sound made generally is a new hardware detect just my 2 cents
Just a thought but it may be the version of Office / Outlook being run. I've been running office 2003 w/ outlook, Active Sync 4.5 with my Hermes 200 on the original AT&T 6.0 for the last year without issue. My company recently upgraded everyone to Office 2007 and ever since my Active Sync has had nothing but issues with syncing especially over blue tooth.

Same here, I have a laptop that runs 2003 Outlook and that works fine, but 2007 - pah what a waste of time. Shame as I really like 2007, maybe it is better on Vista ?! Doing some reading around the web seems to suggest that syncing with 2007 is hit and miss. Works for some not for others, seems like MS strike again !
I'm running outlook 2007 and hosted exchange 2007 through infoquest. Not having any issues either way. May be you can post the error codes you get on active sync, I did have to enter some registry fixes on my laptop but it hasn't given me any issues.
Can't speak for anyone else but if I try to sync with Outlook 2007 all that happens is it goes into a weird loop syncing blank entries continually. Last time I tried I had over 300 blank contacts in Outlook and none of my Outlook contacts on my device ! No messages nothing. That of course is when it does anything, if I delete the pairing then quite often when I plug it back in it will repair and then do nothing ! I now use my laptop to sync up as it works with 2003 reliably.
I noticed the following thing: When using a rom cooked with a build above 20755, syncing under Vista is a challenge. It works when... it works. With a build equal or before 20755, it works like a charm. I flashed back and forth with 2 different builds. No programs installed. And I get the same results. Could it be related to some differences in builds?
