I know this topic has be address many many times and there are still no soluation to the problem.
So.. I want to make a poll to see how many user is experiencing this problem.
I hope to grather enough data to see if it is a hardware problem or Firmware problem so that i can address to O2 regarding this issue.
I love my PDA/phone.. but... this issuse really bugs me cos i used the phone for business and it always happens when a important call arrived...
Pls, Lets Vote with your honest answer...
Derek
No problems here....
What i've experienced is that sometimes the ringing sound is very quite even though the volume is at maximum. I make a soft reset and everything's back to normal.
NO SOUND
I have also experienced the same. I normally have to do a soft reset to fix the problem. Seems its a firmware issue to me.
One more issue is that we need to disable the power off system setting after 3minutes.
If not, a phone call will be automatically ended after 3 minutes talking.
i have also experienced this problem. i had a important caller call me twice and i didnt hear my phone ring. it was also next to me. luckily, i had my backup phone with me when he tried that line.
agreed that we shouldnt have to soft reset to get back the ring tone functionality. i personally think its a caller id version problem, but thats my opinion cause its easier to fix. i just hope it isnt a firmware problem since i wont hold my breathe on O2 releasing a rom upgrade in my phone version.
im going to try some reg tweaks to see if it will help, once my main pc is up and running (currently moving). i just dont want to go back to an older rom because of a ringing problem. but it IS a big problem for most of us.
ps. sorry about the spelling mistakes and punctuations. im on my pda at a coffee shop.
Yup I have see the no sould on outgoing, no sound on incoming, reset does the trick for me. Also feel that the sound is low in general (even if set to max)
Ha.. i call XDA today in their headoffice in Singapore. The CS guy told me.. they know this issue and say there will be a new (Rom) or patch release very soon.
After seeing the vote result. I believe that the issue is do to software, not hardware.
I have a firend that design such product. he told me that it could be that DSP script is not written well. He said, the Echo Cancelling must be overflow causing the unit to manufunction. and after reset, the overflow will be clear out, so the unit function again.
I hope O2 is really releasing a new patch to fix this issue. If not, i think i am force to go back to my Sony Ericsson P910i or one PDA and one phone option.
i'm glad that O2 recognises the problem and not passing it on to other people. thanks for the information rcbear. glad you took the extra steps get them looking this way.
i hope "soon" means in a waek or two.

My ringer always works but sometimes, at least every other day. When someone calls me i can not hear them, they can sort of hear me, but the earpiece is dead. A soft reset fix's this problem. Is my issue related to the current issue dicussed in this thread? Thanks
Jeff
I have the problem
But I get it seldom and sporadically.

Hi Jeffro01..
Welcome to the club..
Derek
I don't seem to have the ring volume problem, but my phone will get into a state where it rings, I answer the phone, but there is no audio. In the six or so times it's happened, I haven't really determined if the caller can hear me. A reboot fixes it.
I can't pin down any one thing I do to cause it to get into this state, but it seems like a software/firmware issue.
I have this problem too.
I had to send my BT headset for repair for two weeks and noticed it did not happen during that time while it started again since I got my BT back.
When it happens (once to twice a week) I soft reset my SPVM2000 and it then is ok.
Also the BT Orange Switzerland patch makes the problem appear less often.
Phone ring problem got me twice today...
Both times, never heard three calls, but the phone still reports them as being missed.
Gotta be a solution for this or I'll be soft resetting every time I finish a call/use.

If so I have 2 questions for everyone who has this issue:
1, Do you use a bluetooth headset or any other bluetooth device (gps...)?
2, What is your current bluetooth version and build?
I have Bluetooth build 3900, and I'm using 1.33.
No probleme here
not using BT or WiFi.
Where can I find my BT version?
I don't also have the 3 minutes switch off pb, the PDA function switch off after 3 minutes but the phone remains operational. I often switch the PDA off myself whilst on the phone to save on batteries.
...Hi everyone! (1st post!)...
I get the dead-speaker in calls too...
I took delivery of my first SPV M2000 a couple of weeks ago; it had a few problems, one of which was that the speaker would be dead occassionally when making or answering calls requiring a soft-reset to resolve. I initially thought this might be caused by the device not correctly recognising external hardware had become disconnected - handsfree/BT/car-cradle etc. - but it did seem to be at random.
Orange replaced the device last week; and by day 3 without using any handsfree/cradles etc. and BT and WiFi not even enabled (much less paired/connected); the dead-speaker problem reappeared.
I'm not going to bother chasing Orange about this issue on its own (this device doesn't exhibit any of the other problems I had with my first); as it seems to be a pretty common problem that's going to require a software update to fix. Needless to say when I read that HTC have written a fix I will be on Orange's back to make a fix for their ROMs public. (dreaming?).
Just FYI, both the initial device I was supplied and the replacement have the same software versions (in my sig).
Regards,
Rob.
I circumvented (temporally fixed) the ringtone problem by setting the default ringtone to "None", and also set the phone to vibrate. Then Re-enabled MS Voice Command to announce all incoming calls. The only problem is, the voice isn't loud enough in noisy places, but it does the job in the office or semi noisy environment. I guess this will have to do until a verified fix comes along our way.
If i reset my device and ring it from my house phone it rings no problem. if i turn the screen off just after that and ring it no problem. but as soon as i run any application and try to ring it again. all that happens is that the screen turns on but no sound no notification and no vibration. ive tried editing the registry ringing hack to no avail.
Anybody having similar problems? any solution?
thanks

Same problem
I have the issue, I notice after overclock (manamic overclock patch). Did you overclock your device ?
Any sugestions to resolve?

I had overclocked it before... but currently its not overclocked... to be honest i havent even tried this phone without having 3rd party software on it.
i think i will try it out after a hard reset with just the O2 software and see if the problem is consistent
If not i have no idea. ive scoured the registry for something but only found a key to change the ring volume and ringing styles. which has already been documented on wiki.
At the moment my solution is a second mobile with all calls diverted to it. its the only way i can actualy recieve calls since i can never bloody hear them on the XDA!!!! ARGHH!!!
I found the problem. its Wizbar advanced 2.0
i just hard reset becouse somehow i had a gut feeling wizbar was to blame... i dont know why but i knew....
so i played with the phone all day withouth installing 3rd party apps. i was going to install apps run them see if it affected the phone. the first app installed was wizbar since i had the gut feeling and i was right... soon as you install it, it stops the phone from ringing.
so anyone suffering this problem and using wizbar either remove it or keep on suffering. ive contacted lakeridge to see what they say... ill update the post if they reply with anything worth mentioning

I'm having the same problem for a week now...
I was on the street with my BA making calls and all went ok. I use it for my work, so I do lots of calls a day. Suddenly, I realized, when I call, that the other can not hear me, nor can I hear them! The counter is running, the screen says "Connected". I haven't done anything to change the configuration, nor it have dropped it from my pocket.
I'¡m getting crazy. I don't know what I've done wrong.
Things tried unsuccessfully:
-Lots of device resets..... Between tryes and Updates.
- Reinstalled WM5 using a different ROM. Now I have TM 1.3. [http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=42632]
- Upgraded Radio to 1.15 (previously, I had 1.13)
- Used a Bluetooth headset. It worked, I could hear the sound from the phone, at least. Only thru the bluetooth headphone. Still, I could not hear any phone-sound from the loudspeaker when I turned off the headphone and the bluetooth headset were disabled, even with the Bluetooth signal ON, as suggested on other post. Each try with a new call.
- "Installed" the Unidirectional patch (copied the AudioGW.dll file over the old one successfully, reset, etc..)
- Turned off the device and leave it off for a while. Take off the SIM card, touch it (cosmic vibrations ) Sometimes, before, the SIM card went a little nuts if I resetted the device too much -maybe :?- or if I got the battery off...
Sorry if this has been posted before, but, at this point, when I've been tried almost (I think) everything, i couldn't find anything relevant using search.
Please, any help will be greatly appreciated!!! Maybe I can use at least a link to another thread..
Thanks
come on, people, a little bit of help here Still making calls with my old Nokia
Out of interest... do you have any wisbar apps installed?
No wisbar apps installed. Thanks
I'm having the same problem. Most of the time this occurs the first time I use it in the morning. The other side can hear me, but I can't hear them. I softreset and it works again.
Yes, I've checked and there's lots of posts about this problem. It differs from mine in the sense that the other CAN hear you. In my case, nor I or the other part can hear us....
As you can read, I've done lots of soft-resets, now I have also 3 hard-resets with everything "at 0" (clear Registry Hive and format Storage). But the problem remains. The only thing I see I can do now is downgrade to wm2003 and see.......
Thanks for your answer.

I've moved to the "BA upgrade, etc" forum. Please, help me from there!! Still looking for an answer

there is an issue with BT and this behaviour. Either you need to always have BT activated or once you have deactivated BT you need to reboot your device. I have the same problem myself.
Regards,
Fredrik
I'm using an SX66, with the official WM2003 SE firmware.
Sometimes when I get a call, I can't hear anything....and I don't think they can hear me. When I do a soft reset, it starts working again for a while.....but then the problem starts again. So I have to do a soft reset every few days, and it's getting annoying.
Doesn't anyone know what the problem is and/or how to fix it?
i have the same problem with my XDA IIs. in addition i have downloaded the patch in the Wiki but the problem still remain, sometimes it happens.
try to turn on your bluetooth, it will fix the problem in my device..... but still its very annoying..
i have the same problem, i have i-mate.... PDA2k, i should reset it every day, i think there are a program could do it at any time i adjust, it's called auto reset
I know that iMate released a "single direction voice patch" to fix a problem that existed with not being able to hear the person calling you (while they could hear you). It sounds like what you're describing, it used to happen me and this patch actually fixed it. I don't know if it's good for the SX66 but it worked for my PDA2K.

Yeah it happens my xdaIIs. not so much latley but it still happens. i have searched and searched but cannot find a soloution.
Hello
I have a peculiar problem with my Artemis (Xda Orbit). I have 2 situations, some times one, sometimes the other.
Situation 1: Plugging in the headset deosn't turn off the sound of the loudspeaker. I can hear through the headset but also through the loudspeaker. In this situation the sound plays about 5% faster that normal.
Situation 2: After having had the headset plugged in, the sound output is not restored to the loudspeaker when I plug it out, when playing with Media Player. It stays mute. I installed TCPMP (another player) and it is the same problem there. But when calling to the phone, the call signal plays well enough through the loudspeakers. I have a MP3 as ring sound (the same MP3 will not play through the loudspeakers when I unplug the headset). However, when picking up the phone, I can not hear the caller nor can they hear me, without the headset. Only a reset restores the sound to the loudspeakers and then I can also call normally. The Radio sometimes recognizes the headset, sometimes not. Once the sound was briefly back to the loudspeakers, as I was shutting down Media Player. I even tried a hard reset to fix these problems, to no avail.
This evening I have Situation 1 but this afternoon it was Situation 2.
There was a problem before, where the speaker would stay on during a normal call, like in hands-free mode. Perhaps the problem was there already. This problem went away by itself but did it really? I didn't use the headset for a while so...
I did two things recently that may have caused this. I did it at the same time, so I don't know which of the two that may have caused the problem, if any of them.
1 I used SDHC-Artemis.cab from Bepe, to be able to use a 8GB card. Worked fine.
2 I tried two adaters I had bought on ebay, which give sound out on a female mini-jack.
Can any of you super-gurus guess what the problem is?
i dont have a ready answer - but you might need to tell us more about your rom - do you have shipped or cooked? details pls.
All shipped. But like I mentioned, I did have the patch from Bepe installed. But I actually now think that the problem was there all along, right from the time I got it used a few months ago.
ARTEMIS (Xda Orbit): Windows Mobile 6.0
ROM: 3.4.207.2 GER
ROM Date: 4/18/07
Hope this helps
your situation 1 has happened to me before, why i dont really know but i felt a complete plonker sitting on the train with my ear phones on and my phone making one hell of a racket!
to fix it i did a soft rest an bam stopped, might hav something to do with plugging in headphones whilst audio coming out, thats about the only thing i may have done and since then ive not had any further problems.
i have since flashed to 6.1 as well that may have been it, i do sometimes get this odd audio error with the FM player, sometimes its very quiet and refuses to be more than a whisper, but if i turn the volume up and down using the hardware buttons it fixes its self.
Windows Bugs im guessing!
It does seem like a Windows bug. Although, once, by fiddling with the plug, the problem went away.
Resetting doesn't do it for me. I would love to flash to 6.1 but my current ROM has Tomtom Navigator built in, with support for the internal GPS and as far as I can read here and there, you can't install Tomtom over a new ROM and expect internal GPS recognition.
Somewhere in a thread I once read about someone who had a link to O2, the provider of the Xda here in Germany, with the 6.1 Update. I haven't been able to find it again, only the 6.0 update. Perhaps I remember wrong...
no worries there mate, ive installed Tomtom on several ROMs and all have worked with the internal GPS, on tt7 you set it as an internal GPS on COM 4 in my case with something like a 56000 rate, on tt6 i think it was called other NMEA or generic NMEA on com 4 56000
just be sure to copy all your favorites, i upgraded to tt7 and silly me lost them all!
Right on dazza! It works just like you said with Tomtom. Thanks mate.
I tried it on another Artemis. I probably have to send in the first one for repair, to see if there might be a hardware problem, before flashing anything, including the guarantie!
No problem mate, it could be hardware, but im sure it happend to me only because i plugged in the headhones whilst it was playing FM radio, perhaps i shorted a couple of pins or coursed it to glitch somehow, to be honest, it might have been just the wrong day of the year! however, im pretty sure that if you flashed the lastest official ROM from the website of your mobile phone provider it will overwrite the modded USPL and put the device back to an original state.....so if you fancy giving the new 6.1 ROM ago you can recover to standard ROM for an RMA if it makes no difference.
Aha, flashing back to normal... "pretty sure" sounds a bit like "not completely sure". I wonder about that and if those tech people who would repair the thing might find traces of the other ROM somehow. Besides, I don't know where to find the original ROM.
Come to think of it, I don't understand how you could have played radio without the headset plugged in. On mine it needs the headset to do anything, saying it needs it as antenna and if you unplug it, it will complain.
yeah it wont work without the hardphones in, but the program launched as i plugged it in.
the only reason i say pretty sure is because im a bit confused by the manual
When the USPL cracks came about there was a thread that said it would revert back to normal after an official flash but i cant find that any more, also the manual for USPL states that it will not survive a reflash, but im confused because on mine ive flashed several ROMS without redoing the USPL so it clearly does remain after a flash.
Did you take out insurance on it? you could always say your dropped it in the bath, they will send you a new one and take the old one at the same time. No need to worry about it then!
------------------------------------
No insurance.
Are you saying that the original ROM will permanently reside somewhere, no matter what you flash?
I found the official Xda Orbit ROM now:
http://rs177.rapidshare.com/files/56...88.90_Ship.rar
No, well yes, kinda..
Im not sure of all the tech lingo but there are several parts to an artemis, the ROM its self where the version of windows is installed, the Radio ROM for the wireless part and the SPL which is something like a boot ROM, used mostly by mobile operators to lock the phone to their software
to update a phone thats Locked, not sim locked thats something different, they developed a patch if you like, that kind of by passes it, so you install this USPL which stands for something im sure, which basicly then lets you flash what ever ROM you want,
if your phones locked you have to do this otherwise you could end up with a brick, ive only ever changed the USPL once and ive put several ROMS on it perhaps my phone is unlocked already so it makes no difference
Anyhow, to warrenty it, if you changed the USPL, you would have to re flash the original USPL and ROM back, BUT and this is why im unsure if flashing a new ROM would work, according to the manual for this USPL it says that you have to run the USLP patch everytime you want to change the ROM, which means that its not perminantly changed at all which means if you put a original ROM back on it, it should be back to stock default...
its a bit vague im afraid, most of the threads seem to have vanished, the poor artemis forum used to be a busy place.
