I've got a SPV M5000 which is SimUnlocked and SuperCID. It's currently running the stock Orange firmware (radio 1.03 and rom 1.30.90). Could someone tell me the best rom (or combination of roms). I'm looking for stability more than speed - the WLAN functionality at the moment is terrible!
Thx
peteS
Try the latest O2 ROM. But, delete the ms_.nbf(responsible for extended rom stuff) file before upgrading. It ll upgrade your radio to 1.09 and rom to 1.30.107. WIFI is rock solid on it
Cool - thx. I'll give that one a try. On a related subject, is it best to stick with the Orange extended rom or use a more generic one, like iMate or qtek. When I cold boot with the Orange rom it runs a load of Orange specific fixes etc - I assume these are in the extended rom - but would these apply to the later O2 rom as well - might it not get mixed up?
You should upgrade the O2 rom with the ms_.nbf and then customize it.
Remove some of the cabs, and voila you have a free rom .
I would not recommend using the orange extrom, since it is for the orange rom.

If you take a quick glance at the extended rom of O2, there is nothing spl that O2 installs(other than its bloatware). There is no significant software too(unlike imate ROMs which have clearvue PDF and stuff).
So, my suggestion is to unlock the extented rom and use the 10mb for installing useful apps
Thats probably one of the best things to do with it. But:
One or two cabs are really needed: 1 for Voicetags, 1 for MP3 Ringtones, and so on. So you should select wisely.

Use the file 'MaUpgradeUt_noID.exe' instead of 'ROMUpgradeUt.exe' to upgrade the rom, radio and ext_rom

After an 12 hour odyssey with the new t-mobile rom (1.20...), I finally decided to switch back to my original german qtek rom. Unfortunately I didn't dumped my original one - so I've called a friend who owns a qtek 9000 too. I was lucky - tomorrow he's going to sale it on ebay...
I could dump the qtek rom, encode it and load it onto my own. There is just one problem: the original install app will not work. You have to use the noID-version. Don't worry if the routine fails - try again.
The worst case: the qtek gets in bootloader mode - good for you. The rom updating will work seamless now. If you get stuck into that bootloader mode, just remove the "ms_.nbf" & "nk.nbf" and perform only the radio update again - after a hardreset the good old gtek splash screen will show up and you'll be fine or lets just say: welcome to your new mda pro without any branding stuff (you'll love the dialer skin!)
That package contains the latest radio rom from the mda pro rom update!

THANKS A LOT!
I was waiting for this many weeks...
I'm just wondering: what was wrong with your TMo ROM (the new one) ?
I use it since now more than a week and I am very satisfied with it.
Had QTEK ROM, O2 ROM, i-mate ROM before.

available RAM with various ROMs
Hi,
I just wonder if e.g. the qtek rom leaves more RAM? I am desperately looking for more RAM, there is never enough. I have the new t-mobile rom, it is much more stable than the old one, but the RAM situation has not changed. I have 1800 contacts, and when I reset the MDA Pro I will start with roughly 15 MB, very soon they will be down to 10 (once the mail has been checked) and from then on...I cannot make a video call, I can hardly use the camera, I can just about open a web page and than I am down to 2....I don't know why other people have no problems with this, but for me....I need 20-30 MB more...
Is there a solution to this? Is at least qtek rom a bit more generous?
Looks like that link is broken. I can't open it. It shows permission denied. Where else can i get german ROM update. Or Russian.
@ hrb
its pretty simple: i hate that t-mobile dialer. and there was no way to get rid of it. so i switched back.

Can I use a Qtek rom on a IMATE jasjar?
I have this imate jasjar in english and i want it in spanish. The only rom i saw was for qtek.
Thanks a lot guys!
agustinpac: yes, it is possible.
e.g. I installed qtek on t-mobile..
what you need is the MANoID installer that will make that the device is not going to check if the upgrade is "legitimate" or not.
If you have an extracted complete set of installation files in one directory
you just exchange the original installer with this NoID installer that a very proficient member of this forum wrote.
and then you should put the device in bootloader mode by makin a reset while pressing the light button and the power button together, then connect to the pc and start the installation by launching the noid installer.
after 20 min you are done. by the way: this way you can mix also rom, ext rom and radio versions from different origin and release version.
I hope this helps, if not, let me know.

Hello agustinpac,
I was the one who uploaded the QTEK spanish ROM as this was the ROM installed in my device, but i needed an english one. I'm now using the JASJAR and i think the O2 is better but have no time to flash back to O2. Or maybe wait for the new ROMS which are esupposed to be out next moth at latest. Never tried T-Mobile.
There are 2 QTEK spanish files. one is the rom update which updates ROM and Radio, and the other is the extended ROM which you have to install manually. To do this, Unlock ExtROM( search how to do this). Extract Extended ROM Zip file to a directory in your SD card. Then use Total commander and copy these files to the extended_rom partition. Hard Reset. This should do it.
Contact me if you need more help. Also, if you install this ROM, your hardware keyboard will be Spanish, meaning "Ñ" is one of the keys on the keyboard (under the K key) and also other keys will be remapped. If you need to remap the hardware keyboard to english, tell me also. The software keyboard will display and work as a spanish keyboard so no problems with this one.
Goodluck

Can someone please upload the Orange ROM that ships on the UK M5000 to the FTP site - I'd really like to put it back on my device.
Thanks
if you tell me how to extract it - i still have it on my device
no changes to software, just some programs installed.
I have extracted it (CE ROM, Extended ROM), but I have no clue how to upload. If you find out, I'll upload for you peeps
(I nabbed the radio 1.03 ROM off a Qtek, as it is not operator dependant)
Cya
I'd also be grateful if you can upload this just in case my machine ever has to go back for warranty repairs.
You can find out how to upload here:

Thanks.
Hey
I have uploaded it now. Instructions are attached. You should find the files at this directory:

(Copy the whole line, and paste into explorer)
In return, can you guys take a look at this thread:

I was using the latest o2 Rom from o2 and wanted the original orange to put back some customisations (sounds and dialler skin) and if I need to send handset back. I am now however using the new test ROM and even though there r some problems (mms can't download but can send) I can't go back to any other as its SO much more usable.

The 3 UK rom is simply a QTEK 9000 rom with 3UK customisations in the extended rom.
The files from the extended rom are available in the link below.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=340982
I did make up a flashable extended rom as well but rapidshare has deleted it.
If you unlock your extended rom and replace all the files in it with the above then you have a 3uk version phone.

First of all Psidoc I would like to say thanks for the effort you have put in to bringing the 3 experience to others like my self who did not start off with a genuine 3 uni.
I am having a couple of issues I recently flashed the thing on a spring win mobile 6.1 rom onto my uni, fortunately thing on a spring packaged his rom up as a separate nk.nbf and an ruu installer, so all I had to do was drop your 10MB extended rom into the same folder as the RUU at it included it in the install for me !
I am now left with a partially customised device for example the dialler has the porper 3 logo in it (like the one in your avatar) but when I press the ie button on the keyb it says not assigned (not a big deal I can do a regedit for that. If I start up IE it comes up about.blank for the home page, also not a big deal. If I run some of the customisations independently I can get it to fix the homepage issue but here in lies the real problem, when I go to the real home page it is blank !! I think it is to do with this user agent business, so after all this rambling my question to you is which file sets up all the user agent stuff properly and will allow me to use the 3 portal ??
it's funny because with the thing on a spring rom, I had an error at the end of the customization, could not fing the TSK file even though I knew it was there, I just flashed ranju7.6 rom only and this time it customized with no problems ??
Some do some don't mate.
A lot of chefs cook roms specifically and they don't like random customisations. Also remember this extended rom is totally standard from a WM5 QTEK9000 so again some diffferences may occur when you apply it to WM6
Thanks again to Z£Y$ for posting the files that I could cook into an extended rom for general use.

It does work buts it's a bit of tedious mucking about to get it to do it. even original 3UK Qteks have problems with this.
I never use the portal, just surf the net.

This ROM is based on the official German O2 ROM:
http://www.o2online.de/nw/support/do...bit/index.html
- Translated the ROM to Dutch (NLD) with the WM6 EMU ROM!
- removed the O2 operator package (Settings and O2 Theme)
- The Extended ROM Installs now
- Added HTC Task Manager
- Added WM5 Storage
- Added PIM Backup
HUGE thanks to bepe for his Artemis ROM Kitchen, I could not have make this ROM without this Guru's help!!
!!! This thread is not for questions about unlocking the device !!!
- In case that you have questions about that open your own thread -
Download the ROM by reading and clicking the red text
Hope you all enyoy my first ROM!

So did you create a new .nbh or just upload the OS? If yes how did you do it? I tried some stuff with bepe yesterday, but since he doesn't have the device he can't tell me how to do it exactly. I'd like to have mine "de-O2ed" too and put certain apps on there too.
Hi,
Nice job.. Is there a tutorial somewhere on how to modifiy the OS image ? I'd love to make my own modified pre-setup WM6 image for my device.

Hi,
Wifi works, buttons doesn't work!
Greetings
Okay used the Dutch-made version for some days now.. It's quite buggy, weird text usage (e.g at the Mic AGC control option), missing buttons, lot's of shortcuts which need to be manually set and problems with Messenger which makes it unable to show online contacts after some time (might be related to backing up/restoring stuff).. So far the WWE release is cleaner and better working. I guess I'll either go back to WM5 for now or wait for an official WWE release from O2 UK/Dopod.
I got the missing buttons to work

Hi all,
I've recently downloaded the Voda WM6.5 ROM - but before I upgrade I'd like to know if it's possible to get the HTC stock theme just like we were able to do for the WM6.1 ROM? I get on with Voda's attempt, just not with their grim red theme. If I can't change it to stock HTC then I'll probably not upgrade...
Cheers!
Rag.
Why not HSPL your phone and flash a new ROM entirely? That is what I have done on my vodafone TP2 and I now have no horrible vodafone theme or software!
have a read of this if you are unsure what I mean!

Definately the best way to go but not everyone wants to go down this route for various reasons.

Thanks Allen - where can I get hold of that please?

The 6.5 Vodafone theme is much better than the 6.1 one. They've sorted the black on red etc. Definately worth the upgrade for that alone. I'd upgrade to the Voda one personally rather than SPL if you're not interested in running cooked roms. If you don't like it you can always SPL after.
You can download the "Stock" HTC "theme" HERE
It's zipped as it's around the 40mb mark.
I should make this absolutely clear, this is for Vodafone ROMs only, if a file is already used by the VF ROM it was not included (Generally this is for *.png, *.bmp or *.jpg files). The "theme" will make your TF3D look exactly like it does from HTC.

Hi, I have read that thread very carefully but need to know if I need to HSPL my Vodafone TP2 to run the 6.5 upgrade? I suspect i might want to return to Vodafone 6.1 or flash a new ROM entirely. Guess my question is do i need to have HSPL to do any of these?
If you're using the VF 6.5 ROM update, hardspl is not necessary. This is only necessary if you are going to use anythingelse other than VF ROMs.
