I've seen the fingers being used on the screen, and yes, this may be a dumb question, but watching the video again, I notice they never even mention a stylus.
well, no, it is a capacitive screen, there is no real need for a stylus, but i'm sure you could just buy one for the iphone and I'm sure it would work perfectly fine on the evo.
Honestly though, why you would think you even remotely need a stylus on such a huge beautiful screen, i don't know...
I "said" it was a dumb question

I have a TP2 now, it has a stylus and a touch screen.
Hey, I was just asking because I was curious and no one had seemed to mention it.
Nope, there is "NO" stylus thank goodness

I'm coming from the world of WinMo where I used a stylus to select text for cutting and pasting. How does one select text for cut & paste without a stylus?

go use an iphone to see how and ive cut and paste on an iphone pretty decently and the EVO will have a bigger screen so itll be easier to cut on that and the EVO is capacittive touch pro 2 is resistive if you dont know the difference google
your tp2 has a resistive screen which means it recognizes stylus and fingernails, capacitative screens do not.

man, one huge long run on sentence. Trust me though OP, it is easy, i forgot how to specifically do it on android, but i'm sure it's easy.

and that is as far as we need to go
I don't like the feel of the resistive screens. This one is much much better.
Resistive screens you have to push harder usually, capacitive ones detect fingers much better and require a very slight touch, however they don't detect hard objects like a stylus and such.
When I first got my HD2, the capacitive screen was so sensitive, in comparison to my Blackstone, I went kind of nutty.....but, a Winmo application was posted trough good ol' XDA to adjust the sensitivity to personal preference.
Te EVO is bound to be the same. No fingernails, the capacitive screen requires the touch of the finger.
Also, I have a capacitive stylist.....big as a pencil and quite unnecessary.

I did exactly what you said and guess what the first hit is, "XDA-Developers".
it was an honest question and admitting that it may have been a dumb one was my first comment. I truly don't understand how some people "think" they're funny when just ignoring a question that they may think they're "above" is the better non-response.
Don't assume you're the smartest person in the room and the other people didn't first search for the answer. Your OWN example turned up THIS post started by me.
If you don't want to help, that's one thing, if you think making fun of someone else makes you better, that's something else entirely.
THIS is why people sometimes are afraid to ask questions in these forums for fear that people like you will make fun of them.
No question is waste of time if it hasn't been asked before, which funny enough mine hadn't.

You can't use a stylus or fingernail on the Incredible and it was also rumored to be using the same touchscreen. So until someone who has access to a unit says it works, I wouldn't count on using a non-conductive mechanism to interact with the EVO 4G.

i guess the manufacturers of the controller are lying then
Well this may very well be a stupid and futile question, but here goes anyway.....
would it (at least in theory) be possible to replace my Rhodium's (beautiful) screen with the same screen but that supports multi-touch? I love my stock screen (when compared to my brothers Hero's screen, the Hero does not even hold a candle to it). However, I really love that I can multi-touch on the Hero.
I am aware of the reprogramming and countless mass of editing that would (in theory) need to be done in order for this to work. Was just curious as to if it would at all be possible (even just a 1:1000000 chance).
now for another (more realistic...i hope) mod question:
Would I be able to remove the (I assume single) L.E.D light that lights up the four face buttons (Call, Windows, Back, & End) and put a new L.E.D in there (or even a few lights, one to make the buttons different colours)? Would like to have:
Call - Green
Windows & Back - Blue
End - Red
Thanks for taking the time to read my rant of what I assume is (mostly) impossible.

So far as I know the only capacitive screen made my HTC is the HD2. That is the wrong size for a TP2.
well I know the hero has a capacitive screen, as does the Evo.
However both are the wrong size. The screen should not have to be an HTC though,
right?

It's not financially practical to do what you are asking regarding the screen.... Like you said.. its not even a matter of just popping in a new screen but the hours it would take to do programing etc... not only that but I'm sure there is other hardware other then the screen thats associated with multi-touch working.
The LED's.... I'm sure thats easy enough if you really want to rip apart your phone I'm almost wondering if it would be easier just to put a piece of colour film under each button you are talking about to give the different colour light effects you are talking about.
on a side note... a developer has made some pretty significant headway regarding pinch to zoom on our phones. Have a read and check it out.
[APP/DRIVER][22Jun] Pinch to zoom ON ANY DEVICE IN OPERA! VIDEO OF BETA! SMOOTH ZOOM!
Well I guess for the time being, I am going to put the screen on the back burner. I am still very interested in the LED mod however.
I am just gonna look into the film over the lights for now. Though when I got the free time (and cash), I will look into changing the actual LED light(s).
Thanks again for the heads up.
Hello,
I do deeply apologise if I am making this thread on top of some that already exist, I tried to do search, but did not find anything exactly like my problem...
Well, here it goes. I have the old version of HTC desire with Amoled Screen(I am pretty certain about it) but suddenly, I dropped my beloved on ground, and it fell flat on screen... digitizer and screen protectors were absolutely fine, but the inner screen cracked and liquid thingie got out, so after few days, I ordered repair on HTC, despite 85pounds worth repair, and 3weeks waiting, I finaly got my phone back... but there is something wrong with it...
I have read over the internet some talking about dust stuck between screen and digitizer, I have read something about digitizer not working as supposed etc. but my issue is different, the screen is Yellowish?!? Did some google search, and found that SLCD screens are yellowish, and AMOLED blue-ish, fair enough, did some research and checked differences, and NONE of the SLCD screens were that yellowish as mine, so took drop of water on screen to use it as zoom to find out if I have SLCD or AMOLED, according to engadget.com, I got another AMOLED screen, which makes me kinda happy(black is really black, viewing angles are good etc). but the color... I would not mind much, but its sooo yellow, that whats supposed to be blue is having slightly greenish color now... I can attach some pictures if you need, but I have nothing to compare with other than my LCD display on PC. I will actualy check tomorrow with some people from work who got Desire as well.
I also found one thread on this forum, that one lad was replacing the screen for himself, and that he found the problem is on some filters thingie(I dont understand such things that much, and I would not be able to fix it by myself) that was turning his screen yellowish as well...
So my main question is, could possibly the phone leave the HTC repair center in England with this kind of fault? Where the screen is yellow-ish and actualy turning colors of pictures different way?
Nothing is 100% perfect and we're all human, so yes, there is room for error. Take it back and say you don't like it. As far as explaining it to you, I have no bloody idea at all. If I was you I would take it back. Whilst we're on the topic, how do you know if you have an AMOLED or a SLCD screen?
I hope its nothing against rules, here is the best way how to know what display you have:
engadget[dot]com/photos/spot-the-difference-htc-desires-slcd-versus-amoled/#3354740
just focus on the bricks, if they are like on old phones, then you have SLCD, if they are like on wall, its AMOLED, the AMOLED has build its basics little zigzag, but SLCD is straight, just like on LCD screen on PC - you can easily notice while browsing the net and displaying straight vertical line, if its thin enough, you will see little edges on it
Other than that, I dont think there is anything else(appart from how bright colors are on Amoled) that would say you have AMOLED or LCD
I had a look but it was hard to tell how they were lined up. It seemed that they're all like a wall, I'm pretty sure but need a microscope lol.
It is easier to tell if you look at something that is blue or red, rather than white or green. If it is amoled it will have diagonal lines or a diamond pattern with black dots in them. Lcd will be entirely smooth with only horizontal and vertical lines.
Ok, so I have seen a friends amoled screen now, and I have changed my opinion now, the yellowish, and he has blue-ish color.. so mine screen looks way better and has way more contrast, so I guess I'll keep this as it is, and just get used to it... I dont want to use nokia 6070 any longer
You might be interested in the colour calibration that comes stock with e.g. Cyanogenmod if you have rooted the phone. There you can change the balance between R G and B to obtain a more natural white.
Normal cautions regarding rooting apply.
Gotta root first, since the phone came back from repair completely wiped out

Or you could put on a pure black background and see if the blacks are black! If you can see backlight then it's LCD.
True, that's a way how to find out as well, but I wasn't that certain with this since I didn't have different phone to compare..
Btw, phone rooted and runing gingerbread ATM, pretty happy with it, and screen settled down and colors are good again...
Just about the gingerbread, is there a hope for having sense on it before official launch? Or do we have any official news from HTC about gingerbread coming on desires?
I have a DInc with an SLCD screen, but I like the look and feel of the AMOLED screens better.. is there something I can install/change/alter/etc about my existing screen to make it look like an AMOLED one? (as in, software changes, without physically changing screens)
Sell your slcd on ebay get a amoled off ebay? Wait till the phone is replaced by the next generation with one? I dont believe it is possible to swap it into that phone.
To me, the most noticeable thing about the AMOLED is the super deep blacks. And due to how the pixels work differently (basically black pixels are off entirely with OLED, LCD is backlit), there isn't really any way to "emulate" that.
So I recently bought 2 Zenfones (exact same model), and was quite surprised to find they have different touch panels. They are both WW, as indicated by their boxes.
Anyone know what's going on here? And if so, which is the "original"/"better" screen?
Attached are some pictures (sorry for crappy old phone photos). Both are at 100%, no auto brightness, splendid profile = balanced.
The screen on the left is a bit redder, with deeper blacks. The panel to the right appears to be more greenish/neutral.

It's not unusual for companies such as Asus to have the same parts manufactured by different companies, perhaps for supply or pricing reasons. As for the "better" screen, its up to the user's eyes to determine which one looks better. You said it yourself, it can be tweaked with Splendid

Ah.... thank you for clearing that up :good:
The screens could be poorly calibrated at factory and come from different bins/batches. It's not uncommon for this to occur when the process is less exacting.
I got two WW 550, one for me and one for my wife. The displays of ours also look quite different when compared side by side with exact same settings. Wouldn't say one is better than the other, but clearly different.
Firstly, touch screen is transparent so you must search for display version anywhere.
Secondly, are you sure that display color settings of both phones are same?
i have the touch panel of that 2nd pic.. ending with 0xba
but my battery version is different...ending with 1507
guess the manufacturing place is changing for all parts or they are from different batch
I like the reddish one easier on eyes. The LCD is probably a newer revision and a different batch like ansebovi said, e.g. v2. All eletronic companies work that way. How is battery consumption for both? I have the 0xb9. You can use CF.lumen to set display temperature (K) so they match together.

From casual comparison, it seems like SOT is similar for both panels.
