alright so after a weekend at vegas my screen is busted. i cant see a damn thing but i really need to back up my numbers from the phone to the sim. is there a way to do it from the computer or can someone show me blindly how to do it. (i.e. show me the keys to press) important to know that i am using WM 5.0
update: cleared up some language
Try searching for some remote control software that allows you to control your PPC from your PC. I think there are some threads here with recommendation, I remmeber seeing one on the topic of screen capture.
BTW, if you were to sync it with your PC, you ought to have all your contacts on your outlook, which you can sync it back once you have your phone repaired.
i can't find the software. any leads to links would be much greatly appreciated...

Hi all
This is my first post but i have been reading in the forums for a couple of days to see if i can work out how to fix my pride and joy by myself.
I tried to upgrade to WM6 and it seemed to halt mid update and i lost my active sync, it was only a few seconds into the update and i stupidly left the sd card and sim card in the device, this may have been the problem. I can get to the boot loader screen as i can see serial and v1.00 on the grayed out screen. I see USB in place of serial in the boot loader screen when i connect the USB lead and also hear the connection sound on my computer. I know that active sync is working as i have connected my c500 smartphone to check. I have also reinstalled Windows mobile device center. I have also tried to connect on my XP lappy and when i try to start mtty 1.42 it blue screens my lappy (anyone else seen this or have a solution?)
Main thing is can i use an SD image to flash a new rom
If not how can i get active sync to see my device
anyone know a good repair shop in the UK
I really have hunted the forums for an answer to this problem but can't readily find a solution any help gratefully received. Also reassurance that my XDA is not totally dead would be nice.
XDA EXEC
Running boot loader screen only
trying to restore using Vista and Windows XP pro
Yu have not been reading verry well!!!
That is easy to fix, just read WIKI
Disable usb in active synh!!!!
Hi thanks for the speedy reply, but i did try disabling the USB connection in active sync and nothing altered. I may be missing something tho so will have another look at the WIKI. Maybe it's because im using Vista, reason being that my lappy running XP is blue screening, would i be better using the lappy and fixing the mtty problem? If you could give me a link to the easy fix so i could find it a little faster. I really wanted to sort this out myself but i am also concerned that my pda is screwed and although all you maybe see a lazy n00b that hasn't read the site very well i have put in a large number of hours reading, i admit flashing firmware is not something i do every day and im a little out of my comfort zone and a few pointers would be very much appreciated.
I have some staff in my folder wich helped me in any problem situation i have ever been.
Try to borrow someonce PC...
Dont use hubs.
Use the same USB port for the whall proces
Done all of those but still no active sync connection! Is there some way the profile for the PDA in active sync can be removed to allow a clean install? Or can i flash some way with the SD card and avoid Active Sync altogether?
I appear to have sorted the problem now. It would seem that the IR port was conflicting with my active sync connection, i was getting a blue screen and a message about ircomm.sys when i disabled the virtual IR port in control panel my pda connected to the mity application without any problems. Hope this will help someone else that is stuck on the same problem.
This problem is driving me to distraction, when I plug my orbit (o2, WM6 ROM) into my vista (home premium) laptop the phone shows up in my computer but when I click on it to open so I can add files... nothing. Not just nothing in that window but other programmes cease to respond. Firefox won't find websites, Thunderbird cannot find pop server, nothing, the only thing that does continue to function is WMP still plays music without hesitation or pause, which is nice, if only was listening to something a little more soothing.
It has worked intermittently in the past (works fine with my old Wizard (I keep him around for casting spells and such like.) and I have to same problem with the Orbit regardless of which wire I use.
I wonder if it may be the USB socket in the phone which is the problem, possibly it was damaged when the ridiculous headphone plug was inserted and it got somewhat knocked in the pocket of some rather tight jeans with my hand thrust in there too.
Any help, hints or placation greatly appreciated.
tl;dr: can't transfer to phone from vista, help?
Well I dont really know what your problem is, but if your only wanting to transfer stuff from PC to Orbit SD card then try Wm5torage for a quick fix until you get the issue solved.
Go to start|settings|system - usb to PC and uncheck "enable advanced etc"

Brilliant, works like a charm. One wonders what the 'advanced' settings are actually for if all they seem to do is stop it from working.
Thank you.
Can someone help me? I have brought on the Internet what I thought was a Samsung Omnia from China; on receipt of this phone I note that it states that it is a Samsung AnyCat. I have opened the back and It has SGH-i900 model written on the label under the battery. Unfortunately it has only got the basic software installed on it, and I am unable to gain connection to my PC to download anything as my PC which is a vista recognises it has a USB hard drive. Plus it did not come with owners manual. As you can tell by this request I am very new to this type of thing, so please give me some support with my basic understanding in mind.
I await your response
the samsungs normally come with a utility in the connections tab of settings called "usb connection" in there you can specify whether it connects as an activesync device or a usb hdd. I would not be suprised if the i900 had usb hdd as the default.
You cant miss the icon, it has a usb logo on it, (just in case the software is not in English)
Good luck.
also you might want to change your username to something that isnt quite so obviously your email address, might get picked up by spam bots otherwise.
Looking on the net a bit, it looks like what you actually have is a CECT I900. CECT make clones of branded phones, have a look on youtube. From what i can see it doesnt run on windows mobile.
Thank you very much for your response. The setting on this phone has not got a section allowing me to change this usb hdd as the default. The software is very basic I have tried everything i cant even turn off the horrible ring tone when it first powers up. This phone hasn't even got window mobile.
I will change my username
I have opened the back and It has SGH-i900 model written on the label under the battery, I will look on youtube shortly.
Thanks for your help, I looked on youtube and your right i have been had over big time.
what a nightmare, sorry to be the bearer of bad news. put it on ebay, someone will want it, probly gonna end up taking a big hit on it though.
Good luck.
hopefully we will see you back on here with your omnia
you sure will, i will have to now buy one from a main dealer, any advice on this. It needs to be sim free
Hi. I'm running a TouchFLO 3.0 ROM tp2 from Tmobile. Recently, without reasonable cause, manila stopped launching on soft reset. The ONLY way I can get it to load every time I soft reset is opening file explorer, going to the windows folder [which takes a good 3 minutes to load], and launching manila.exe. I haven't added or removed any programs in over 2 weeks, and it started today. Any one have any ideas besides backing up and hard resetting?
EDIT: Everything's running sluggish too.
EDIT x2: And after manually launching manilla, I'm missing my task manager button in the upper right.
sounds like as good of a reason as any to back up your contacts etc and do a hard reset. Especially if the phones being sluggish
It won't connect through ActiveSync. How do I back up all that stuff?
either use PIM backup or Microsoft MyPhone
Those would both involve me connecting to the device to install the cab. Maybe someone could tell me why all of a sudden I can't connect to the device as well? It's almost like my device has a functionality virus. -.- There's never been a huge problem connecting before, but now it absolutely refuses. I keep getting the "To connect to this device, you need to have ActiveSync 4.5 installed" message, when I blatantly am running 4.5.

Think outside the box...use the phones wireless connection to do it or use bluetooth to connect with activesynch. This is an internet phone after all.

How? I really have no idea.
EDIT: Nevermind. Emailing it to myself. Will it need to be connected to use PIMbackup or MyPhone?
use myphone... it can back up everything you need and stores it online... you can download the cab from the marketplace right on your phone. It uses your windows live account.
That said.. you can also transfer stuff on and off your sd card right to your computer no? By taking the card out and physically putting it in a memory card reader.
Myphone uses the data or wifi connection to back everything up. Pim doesn't just backs it all up to your sd card. Regardless I can only recommend what I myself use which is outlook or myphone and since outlook is a no go since you cant connect it via activsync for some reason I guess myphone is what I recommend.
good luck
Thanks for the help guys. All went well.

Hi All,
I've had a good look through the "contacts" issues and can't see a relevant thread that helps with a 2 point problem so here goes:
I have an Xperia Arc LT15i
It has suffered some water damage, though the indicator is still white.
The screen is completely dead / black rendering the phone unusable.
Connecting the phone to pc with USB lead allows me to access the SD card through PC Companion - this is the good news.
The bad news is I have no way of backing up my contacts to the PC as I assume they are stored on the phone memory and there is no way as far as I can tell to see a contacts folder.
The Contact Back Up feature on PC companion and everything else I've read requires that I access the phone directly, which I can't do.
Does anyone know how I can access my contacts to back them up using a USB connection and not needing to directly interact with the phone?
Also, is there any chance that this fault will repair itself and the phone come back to life or do I save whatever files I can and then write it off?
Thanks a lot.

You had your contacts synced with your google account? Try logging from google to your account and search for the contacts page.

Thanks, but I'd tried that and regrettably the contacts are not there so I can't have synched them.
http://www.droidxforums.com/forum/droid-x-rescue-squad/30987-acquire-contacts-via-adb.html
Of course that would require USB debugging to be enabled.
If it's not, you can use the keyboard and usb-otg adapter to enable it like this guy did:
http://forums.androidcentral.com/sa...een-need-keyboard-sequence-usb-debugging.html
Of course his phone is different, so hopefully you're using stock gingerbread? or ICS?
play around.
Basically, for any other tool you would need ADB, so try to get that enabled.
Are you rooted?

I'm new to all this, but as far as I can tell, the other guy is referring to a separate keyboard on his particular phone. The Arc doesn't have a keyboard - only on screen.
Not rooted.
Can anyone give me a step by step solution?
Thanks.

Wait, don't you have HDMI out? If you don't have HDMI cable, look on ebay for that too, I'm sure you can get one for cheap, you just might have to wait a little to arrive from hong kong or china
Plug in a screen.
That guy is reffering to 'otg' keyboard:
https://www.google.com/search?gfns=...w&biw=1920&bih=986&sei=7skyUry5D4iMtAbr04HoCA
Arc s does support it, I tried. No root needed. And since Arc is pretty much exact same thing, it shouldn't cause any issues either.
Actually if you get the picture on the screen via HDMI, you're better off using a mouse. You will need the 'usb otg' connector (search ebay, they are really cheap) and USB mouse. Any should work, even wireless with dongles (logitech nano any unifying reciever both work)

Hi, thanks for the advice. If I was in the UK, it would be much easier to get hold of these things, but I'm in Brazil travelling and (whilst not complaining), it's going to be tough to get things set up as you suggest. I still have the USB OTG that came with the phone but keyboard and particularly HDMI connection will be a problem.
But it would be definitely worth a try if I can arrange things at some point. Thanks,
