anyone notice a yellow hue on the xda #iis when at an angle???
They are all like that
can't say i've noticed it on mine... I did have that problem on my Ipaq 4150 though.
Just received 11 x IIs and haven't noticed a problem with any so far (seems to be a better screen than the iPaq 4150)
The screen is garbage!!! I hate my O2 XDAIIs. The XDAII was such a better unit. Windows Mobile SE is very limited to software that you can use as well. Wifi works good, but thats about it. I had issues with mine turning on by itself! lol The SD cards half the time wouldn't read so you would have to do a softboot. Is the unit even capable of using a mmc card? I couldn't get my 1gb mmc card to work, but my 512 sd did work after numerous softboots.
Every program I have works fine on my PDA2K (same machine). Almost all of them had the pop-up saying it wasn't designed for this version etc. etc., but install anyway and they work fine.
My screen isn't garbage, not sure what you are complaining about.
I can't remember anywhere that it says the SD slot can read MMC, XDA IIs/PDA2K advertising. I know this is possible on some SD slots, but they actually mention it from what I remember reading.
Are you using a generic SD version or a major brand? I haven't had any issues with all the SD cards we've deployed (except one failed and had to be replaced by Sandisk). We have a mix of generic brands, Sandisk normal and Sandisk ULTRA (way faster than anything else).
i can use sd & mmc cards on my mda 3 no problem
Unluckily mine's screen turns also into hard yellow when looking at it in not 90 degrees Anyone has any ideas against this? Like some contrast tool? Maybe I'll make some picturesa of the screen from different angles and post them here, so you can compare them to yours...
the new blue angel device's screen is garbage.. just like the new Himalaya screens.. yellow hue.. not readable in any angle other than 90.. and a big contrast problem...
my i-mate has the best screen i've seen ever in a pocket pc.. it was bought more than a year ago and ive never seen any screen like mine..
HTC has changed their screen suppliers.. i have known before that the Himalaya screens are made by sony... this was the case when the xda II was first introduced to the world... but after that they changed the screen in order to make more funds...
the same story:

one word..
I'm using my old i-mate and ive sold my pda2k
Solution:
I'll buy a damaged XDA II for cheap, take the screen out and put it in my PDA2k, what do you think? )
screen is absolute junk
Got my QTEK 9090 yesterday. Great little device. I like everything about it but 1 thing: the screen. It is absolute garbage  !!! Speaking of yellow hue, this screen is junk. Amazing that they sell this at all. My 2,5 yrs old XDA I has a much better screen. Luckily this QTEK is a loaner (the Dutch importer couldn't deliver yet but promised he could, so we all got demo units for the time being).
I think we will cancel the order and look for something else. The only question is: for what :?: What other device is comparable to the QTEK 9090 but has a decent screen :?:

this seems the only solution.. I'm ready to buy another Blue Angel and do this but where??
where can i send my two devices to change the screen...
another thing.. i don't think it's that easy to replace the screens... because i once sent an i-mate to ppctechs and they told me that they can replace SOME screens while they cant replace SOME.. so if HTC have more than one screen connectors for one model what do you think for two??
Xda IIi screen quality question
Who knows if the new Xda IIi (also known as HTC "Alpine") has the same yellow hue quality issue as the HTC "Blue Angel" ? If not we'll abandon the QTEK 9090 and go for the Alpine.
Another reason apart from the outrageous screen quality is the slider keyboard. My colleagues are quite big guys with big hands and fingers. It's quite impossible for them to press just 1 key at a time with their fat fingers, so for them the slider keyboard is quite unusable. And since it adds up to the size of the device, why not leave it out we're thinking.
Weird, I got my xdaIIs a few days ago and can see No discolouring at all, the screen is readable upto a near 45 degree angle, AND i am using a screen protector!, mabye it was just a bad batch, my screen is amazingly sharp
I had an old ipaq previously, that was slightly yellowy but not too bad, this is better
There is always compromises manufacturers have to make with a tft......
Yes, there is a yellow hue wich I don't have on my MDA II, but if I hold my Qtek 9090 outside in the daylight it is much better to read than my MDA II.
I think calling the Qtek 9090 screen carbage is extremely exaggerated.
I also get the yellow-screen problem on my 9090.
However, the quality of the screen in general *seems* to be better than on all the 2020's in the office.

these "all 2020's" you talk about are from the "new screen devices" search for someone with an "old" 2020 and see how better his/her device is..

I've heard a lot about this daylight reading thing...
but that's nothing..
I didnt buy the pda2k to read it in the sunlight.. it's a pda which is in 99% you dont have to use at daylight...
still im searching for someone who is able to replace my old xdaII screen with blue angel device..
new QTEK 9090 with great screen
My QTEK 9090 has been replaced today. And guess what: NO YELLOW HUE anymore :!: :!: :!: The new device has a great quality screen. Man, am I happy Happy happy joy joy

Yeah, for all those *****in' about their screens, you need to take your unit back and swap it for the latest batch (unless the store is still trying to get rid of units from the original batch). The latest batch seems fine. Loads of people are now reporting great screens, fantastic voice quality (mine is the best of any cellphone I've ever used), solid keyboards and good wi-fi. Though the bluetooth is still garbage and will be until the ROM updates are released.
I'm about to purchase an i-mate PDA2k (couldn't get my older i-mate to work with the Sandisk 256MB + Wi-Fi SD Card). Still mixed feelings between the PDA2k and the whatever i-mate calls the XDAIIi (haven't seen it yet from i-mate). I have the option of purchasing the PDA2k from several places. How can one tell if it is from the latest batch? Serial Number? ROM version? Screen color identical to older i-mate?
Cant see any problems with it yet.
Slide down keyboard is stiff and secure, no gaps or loose
Screen has no yellow tinge
wifi works, but signal is low.
after reading some of the posts here in the days before my XDAIIs arrived
i was dredding it realy.
the problems i was reading made me feal like sending it back in return post.
BUT
as was said in one or two other posts, it looks like O2 have got the good stock
the wifi problem looks like its here, but saying that it works all round my house and threw walls here, so im happy there.
the signal isnt as strong as my laptop shows.
however driveing down the road, it picks up all sorts of wifi signals.
the volume of the outgoing voice sounds ok.
i mean ive asked a few callers and they say i sound fine.
i use the GPS mouse with a cable that splits to the car ciggy lighter
it was a worry i had (from reading posts here) that it wouldnt fit.
back when i got the gps mouse there wasnt a cable for my XDAII so i took a chance and got the one for the XDA,
it woked fine on my XDAII charging and working the GPS mouse.
so.....
today i tryed the XDAIIs AND IT WORKED !!!
i wish i could remember the name of the mouse, i will look tomorrow for you guys.
but GPS WIRED MOUSE/CHARGER for XDA works on the XDAII and XDAIIS
(without forceing the plug in)
if i find any major problems i will post here in this thred..
I'm on my 3rd O2 xdaIIs and it's a good one ( stiff keyboard/no gaps/no yellow ) all working and I'VE DROPPED IT. Chipped some of the paint of down the left hand side near the camera/record/volume buttons. gutted.
xda iis is it a good buy?
I'm looking into getting the xda iis after january and looking for all the pros and cons. have read it has a bad quality screen unlike the xda ii or iii,...I'm not up to date on things nor do I know a great deal on technology, (only what looks good)...but I don't like to have to use a stylus and have fairly big hands.. I'm sure you have seen about all the flaws and problems relating to this phone/pda...but what do you think first hand, now after having and using it yourself? And also if I might ask, does it meet your standards or live up to your expectations...? Any comments or ideas? I personally don't know whether to look forward to it, or to wait for something else. :?
If you don't like using a stylus, I'm curious as to why you would want a Pocket PC. Even with the thumb keyboard, you need to use the stylus most of the time. Would a Nokia 9500 not suit you better?
As for big hands, my glove size is 12 (or XXXL) and I have little problem with the keyboard on the XDAIIs.
There are quite a few negative comments on here regarding the IIs, but they seem to be based on earlier units, suggesting there were problems with the first batch. My IIs seemed to be part of a later batch and has no physical problems (keyboard is nice and tight, no yellow tint unless I view from a crazy angle, wifi works really well) though the bluetooth software is still dodgy (waiting on O2 to test and release the patch) and there are a few really minor bugs that will be ironed out.
But if you don't want to use a stylus, I would think long and hard about getting a Pocket PC. They are designed to be used with a stylus. The keyboard is really there to augment the normal, pen-based input; not to replace it.
stylus for blue angel
It's not that I dislike the stylus, I just don't want to use it all the time and don't want it to be the only option as on the xda II. I don't mind it for applications and bits, but not too much word input. It puts me off a bit. I do like the keyboard option on the II s, as I have had a look and feel of the II s and was highly impressed by what I saw. It definately suits me (as long as it is a good one and not full of bugs)...as far as nokia....I have never liked any of them... just personal prefs really. I've been wanting a pocket pc as I find they are really interesting and you can do a lot with them, however I'm a bit slow when it comes to knowing what's what when it comes to things like this. Are you happy with yours?
Just got mine, the screen seems ok no yellowish color, havent had chance to play with the Wifi yet.
The keyboards a different story like, seems really loose and really doing my head in, you would think it would lock in quite tight like my samsung e800
How have you gone about getting 02 to swap yours?
Are you guys basically reporting that you have NO yellow on your screen?? Unless I look straight on my pda2k has a substantial yellowing. It's starting to bug me...
Hi,
My wife's dash took a nice jump into a swiming pool over the weekend. Hoping that after it dried out it will come back to life... it hasn't... and it may never will.
Since we are long past the 1 yr. contract with T-Mobile, we are think about renewing the contract, however the big question is should we get the dash, the wing or the shadow.
So... I am open for reasons to make a final decision.
TIA...

Dash because it is tiny and has qwerty. Shadow looks cool....no Querty. There is a shadow 2 coming out very shortly. Saw pictures doesn't look as nice as the first but they are just spy photos and they don't say whether it has a qwerty or just a dialpad like ole one. Wing is kinda bulky. I dunno. I go with dash or wait for something as great as dash but newer. The dash with WM 6.1 and opera mini is like the perfect device. For cheap
I love my dash. For it's size, it packs alot of features. I just flashed to Ricky's rom because I was considering getting a Wing myself. As mentioned before the Wing is rather bulky and mind you I also own a Blackberry 8800. So cast my vote for the Dash. The Dash's only flaw is it's battery life. (Although I am a heavy user)
get the wing. that **** is tight as hell. i would of got it instead of the dash but i was too poor
Is the Wing and the Shawdow having update problems? I just visited Windows Mobile site and the only one with a 6.1 update is the Dash. Is this correct? Maybe I am not seeing the whole story.
wing sux. shadow is a slider and slider sux. dash is slow on WM6 but when u upgrade to 6.1 its all gravy.
Get an unlocked Pantech Duo? Ooh, I bet I wasn't supposed to say that here!

This is the second instance I've seen of someone seeing the Dash mentioned on Microsoft's website concerning a 6.1 update! I literally go to the Windows Mobile site EVERYDAY and check for updates for the Dash, to no avail. What is the URL to the EXACT page where it discusses the 6.1 update for the Dash???

woah i wouldnt go as far to say sliders suck. maybe the shadow slide sucks but ive used several sliders that were pretty solid.
i would go with the dash. its a pretty small phone for the features it has, the full qwerty keyboard, and a jogger strip. i mean come on. i used to have a mda and got rid of it cause it was bulky as hell, i know the wing looks a little slimmer but still bulky.
I have all three, and honestly it depends on your requirements.
Dash: Excellent all around smartphone, nice loud speaker, bright screen, very fast with 6.1, slim, decent battery life, qwerty!
Wing: The ultimate toy, cheap touchscreen pda phone, looks nice, has everything but 3G and GPS, but is also bulky and inconvenient to use in the car or while multitasking.
Shadow: It looked really cool but turned out to be super impractical to use, no qwerty, terrible battery, meh body color choices, not much of a following, but the home screen rocks.
Ultimately the Excalibur (Dash) with Rick's rom wins hands down.
Hope this helps.
I would recommend the dash.

I completely agree.....
Dude I don't think this is right subforum - all have have Dash, and most of us love dash .
This is like you enter Opera forum and ask "Opera, Firefox, or Internet Explorer" .
I love my Dash. My Dash is my second wife .
Not so expensive, fast WM6.1, all basic ****s you need - Phone, SMS, Calendar, E-mail, Opera support, many many games, apps, pretty tinny design, QWERTY keyboard, mp3/mp4 functionalaty, ultra bright clear screen, loud speaker, not slider , Wi-Fi support.
All you need is to pay attention and don't hit this phone to floor - you will break your screen, and buy second battery, because battery life is about 8-10 mounths.
And some cool extra - this subforum with ultra heavy support - this is really really important - believe me.
((rallying the crowd to chant louder)) Dash...Dash...Dash...DASH...DASH...DASH!!! Although, if I could get my hands on one--I think I'd like a Cavalier.

No you wouldn't like a cavalier. A ****load of people have the dash or it's cousins. There are a ton of people hacking it and releasing stuff like wm6.1 betas and custom roms. The Cavalier not so much.
Dash Wins Hands Down
Kind of an old thread but still a relevant topic; the Wing is too slow; I am used to the 8525, and frankly the wing is really slow. By the way, I also do not like the tilt. Yes I have owned it and I sold it. I have had the dash quite a while, and I just bought a Shadow.
Overall, if I could only own one, it would be the Dash. Without question is the best all around device.
Only thing is if I rode the bus often, then the 8525 would be nice to have in that case. Because you have both hands to surf
Wing sucked IMHO. I tried it at t-mo store. TOo slow...if you want a PPC get a used 8525 ($150-$200).
Dash...Dash...Dash...
Dash All The Way!!!!
went to the tmobile store and played with a shadow, colors suck, and it feels fragile as hell. i feel that if i were to drop it, it would shatter into a million little pieces. havent played with a wing, but im the proud owner of my dash. which i drop at least 2 times a day... work sucks
ALL IN ALL ITS THE DASH ALL THE WAY
p.s. got mine for 50 bucks
50 with a 2 yr. contract??
Hi all... Today my loved Blue Angel dropped down on a stone and then Shock... the display was broken...
Now there are a lot of piece in the display(with a lot of colors ive never seen before :-D)... now i want to change my display... is this easy? and what does this coast?... i had a look on ebay but i bought my BA for 80€ and a new display coats 60€...

Hi all,
I've been using a HTC Titan for the past 1.5 years and I'm going to need to get something new. The Titan is alright, but I've gone through 3 units because of keyboard problems and wifi issues. This whole process has left me somewhat disallusioned with HTC.
The Rhodium looks awesome and I know its relatively new, but will I be dissapointed if I give HTC another shot? Anyone made this jump as well? I'm hoping 2.5 generations will have made a huge difference.

I have...
And its defo a step up...Major step infact...
My TyTn II was so buggy now thinking about it...the Rhodium is a ot more smooth, however as usual WM has bugs.
I have also made the jump from Titan to Rhodium. I just couldn't stand the hardware issues anymore.
I must say I miss the large selection of buttons you had with the Titan and though it was a touch screen I think the interface for me was only like half touch. With the Rhodium its full touch for just about everything but TF3D makes up for Windows short falls and I am all but used to the interface after a week. Also if you are big into games on your Titan you may find that several do not work on the Rhodium as the screen res and lack of D button prevent them from playing.
Another issue for me was the soft reset being under the cover because no matter what I was soft resetting at least once a day with Titan. With the Rhodium I am running "Power Options" for resetting and shutdown and I have only fully locked up once where I had to remove the cover and hit the button.
Overall I think it was a good switch. The keyboard and HUGE touch screen along with the snappiness more than make up for lack of buttons. Hope this helps!
Is the extra weight easy to get used to?
I would say yes. I like a heavy phone just because I think it feels like a higher quality device and a lot more solid but thats just me. I like heavy pens too which may be for the same reason.
I think the better build quality over the Titan helps getting used to the weight. I also think it feels a little better in your hand than the Titan at least the Sprint one does as it has like a rubbery feeling battery plate and the rounded edges are wonderful. It appears much thinner to me.
Are you on Sprint or another carrier?
I had a titan for a while, I would've been happy if I had one that was brand new, had no problems and was faster.
That's EXACTLY what the TP2 is, it's a titan on steroids. It does and has everything that I wanted more out of my titan.
More power, longer battery life, bigger screen, 3.5mm jack (well if your CDMA), better keyboard (titan was pretty damn good, this one is better), tilt function.
I liked playing games on my titan, so it's a bit more difficult on the TP2, but to me the phone makes up for the lack of D-pad, I wouldn't give up this phone for a lesser with a D-pad.
I debated picking up a new/slightly used touch pro 1 to replace my titan, since I figured I could get one cheap since the TP2 was here. Then maybe down the road, replace it with the TP2 once the price drops or they become replacements for broken TP1s.
Now that I have the TP2, I wouldn't return it on the "return policy" to get a cheaper TP1 (which seem to have a few issues themselves). My buddy that owns a TP1 agreed, "If I had that phone (TP2), I wouldn't return it for a TP1"
I'm with Telus in Canada so I have the ole cdma version.
The one thing I think will be awesome is that itll be so much easier pressing the "x" on the screen because of the smoothed edges. I always found the screen edge on the titan to be really annoying. Of course, win 6.5 will supposedly fix this by moving the "x"

Its definitely way easier and I don't know that the change in WM6.5 will even matter to me since I no longer have issues pressing the "X".
The Titan was very annoying with the screen being in a giant crater.
