Help with TOMTOM 5 Navigator installation on XDA Exec - General Accessories

I have just bought a TomTom 5 Navigator with GPS (used), problem is when I put the SD card into the XDA the TomTom screen flashes up then disappears and nothing else happens. As I am new to all this can ANYONE help me with instructions on how to install and get this working???

Find the .CAB files on the SD card and install them - then do a soft reset Hope this helps...

Will give that a try, thanks

Hi,
Important! - Before you install.
Be sure to copy the 'TomTom' folder which has the 'CurrentMap.dat'
file to the PocketPC's 'My Documents' folder first. It should be a small folder and CURRENTMAP.DAT is only a couple of hundred bytes long.
Then install the software as normal.
No offence but the copy you have bought is not so much second hand as "hacked"
Hope that's a help
Cheers
Chris

TomTOM 5 not saving settings

Hi guys and gals,
I've recently upgraded my XDA IIs to the latest iMate software. I've then re-installed tomTom 5 with the upgrade to version 5.1
Now my tomtom won't save any of my settings. So i can input my Home and favourties etc... shut down tomtom and then when i go back in, i have to accept the agreement again, and none of my settings are there.
Is anyone else having this problem? and more importantly - does anyone know what the fix is for this?
Thanks all
tcs44_uk - Are you installing from an SD Card? If you are check that the files are unlocked before you copy them onto the SD card or it will act as you have described.
I too had the same problem with a legit purchased copy from TomTom. Someone on another forum advised me to copy the files to the PC, unlock them, copy them back to the SD card the re-install - hey presto works a treat.
HTH
I have nearly the same problem. My settings stay, but favorite and base are gone after a few uses :
I record the base and a few favorites, I exit TT5 using the "quit" icon. When I restart it, the base & favorites are still there (so they are correctly recorded : the file is not locked, and the SD card not Read Only).
After a few runs (I have not been able to check how many, or what can cause that), they're all gone : no base and no favorite.
All I store in POI never disappear, so my work-around is to place all favorite and base in POI.
Tomtom support is ZERO. They have pre-formatted message they send not reading the whole problem, and it is impossible to reply, 'cause the case is closed after their crappy answer.
OhBuggerit2k2, how do I tell if the files are locked?
I have the same problem, TT5 will not remember any favourites when restarted.
I have the files on my computer, how do I check they are not locked?
Thanks Guys
Ginnser
Which files??
I also have this problem.....
does anyone know which file(s) it is that hold the info regarding:
Home location
Favourites
and all the other personal settings
would appreciate any help,
Thanks,
Alan
i had a similar issue & resolved it by changing the settings on the file with extension .cfg from read only. i had 2 copy the file 2 my desktop change the settings then saving back 2 xda2i.
i have a problem with tomtom where it throws me out...any1 know how 2 sort it?
Thanks guys - after copying all of the TomTom files back to PC, taking off the Read Only flag, and then copying the files back - all working fine now.
Cheers

I cannot seem to find the .cfg file !

TomTom 5 Maps Install problems

Hi
Please help me before i go completely mad. I cannot get those pesky maps to install. I am installing from the original tomtom 5 cds in the Software + maps of western Europe version. The main software and UK jane voice all install Ok. But when i insert the second cd and select any of the UK maps option the install programjust disapears. I tried doing a Hard reset on my Universal and starting again. Still get nothing. When i run the TT sw it says "no maps found".
Then i stumbled accross this thread read it through and see that there are many more hurdles needed after i get the maps but found a few usefull threads on maps so. I did another hard reset and tried the suggestion of copying the Cab files direct to my SD card and running from there this time I get the message "Installation of Great_Britain_Plus was unscessful" I have tried this on 2 different SD cards a 1 gb and a 4gb both with plenty of space.
I would be really greatful for a step by step guide or a pointer to the correct thread on this or any other site. I am even happy to pay someone who lives in London to install for me. I am going away on a driving holliday in the UK next week and was hoping to use GPS for the trip but am feeling a bit dissapointed about it now.
Many thanks for any helpfull suggestions
Regards
Try putting the SD card in a reader and install the new map to the card reader (you get the location - where to install option during the install process) instead of on the PDA through active sync. Then simply open Tomtom and go to options and select change map and select from the one/s that you have installed through the card reader.
Hope this makes sense, and possible helps
put the maps into your root of storage card , remeber to keep the orginal names of foldesr. it looks like this in my case..
\storage card\great_britain-map.v5.66
you also have CurrentMap.dat file put in the TomTom folder in My Documents and creat empty TomTom folder in storage card. voices should be put it Voices folder of the storage card .
cheers, cudo
hope it helps ..
get the lastest update from the tomtom website for the universal otherwise youll have trouble getting it to work the isnt set to write protect is it
TomTom 5 latest version is 5.21. That said, the map installation software is horrible.
The only way to install the maps is to specify to a memory card. Do not use the install to Pocket PC or Folder. Select Other and use a memory card.
It goes very slowly ... so have some patience, get some coffee/tea/snacks while you do this.
I can't believe that this is a commercial software. It just not workable in this manner.

Tomtom 6.02 soft reset issue

Hi,
I'm having some trouble with my TomTom 6.02. It wasn't pre-installed so i had to install it on my device. I've installed the mail app on the device itself and the maps and other crap on the storage card ( 2gb ).
Now the problem is that whenever i soft reset my orbit tomtom start up automatically. i found a folder in my windows dir ( /windows/startup/storage card/autorun.exe ) which is responsible for this trouble. I've tried to deleted it ( or rename it) but as soon as i make a soft reset the folder just comes back.
I also found the autorun.exe on my storage card ( /storage card/2577/autorun.exe ). after deleting this file and making a soft reset tomtom doesn't start up anymore, however if i start tomtom manually it tells me that there are no maps found. if i place the file back on my storage card tomtom start's up normally with all the maps.
I looked in the register but didn't find any links to the /windows/startup.... and yes i've tried to re-install tomtom twice now.
Does anyone had this problem or maybe knows a solution?
thx for the help
Just re-name the folde (anything2577)
I had same problem where it always wants to re-install after sprite backup resets. Just re-name the folder named 2577 to eg. AB2577 and that stops the repeated installs. If you want it to auto install in future just re-name again to 2577
the problem is, if i do this, tomtom doesn't find any maps anymore. it starts up, but with an error that there are no maps found.
Why not install version 6.03?

I use this on version 6.03 without any problems, so you may want to try that as well.
Hi,
First copy all the data onto a harddrive. Then delete the whole data on the sd Card and format the SD card. Then all you need to do is copy all the files into the SD Card this time using activeSync and it converts the files. This takes about 20-30 minutes. Leave it and then go to file explorer. Go to storage card and then go to 2577 folder. In this folder don't click on autorun instead run ttn ot ttn2003. I think this would solve the problem

it works! Strange, cause bluetooth explorer wasn't enabled, I 'enabled/disabled' it and deleted the folder.
did you try turning it off and on again, sir?
This is really weird...
I followed the instruction and all started to work just fine..
Then, just for the heck of it, I checked the "enable Bluettoth explorer" box again...
Guess what? It doesn't find the maps! If I uncheck it, it cmoes back to worki perfect...

How to install TomTom Navigator on storage card

Hi All,
Anyone know how to install Tomtom Navigator on Storage card?
Similar question applies to other CABs I have I would like to know for those which do not offer choice of destination installation, how to install either alter tha cab to give the choice or other solution?
Please can you help?
I asked similar question earlier but only answer I had was to use WINCE CAB Manager which I don't know how to change...
Thanks
Whenever I install Navigator it gives me the choice of storage card or device. Do you not get those choices? And it still installs a lot of files to the device even though I chose storage card, I think it's unavoidable.
Can you send me a link of TomTom Navigation software so I would discover out and tell you ?
The way I did it was to install TomTom onto the devices internal memory as normal then move the program files directory etc over. Point the shortcuts into the correct exe location and it all works perfectly fine. Even after flashing the device several times since I'm as yet to reinstall it as I don't need to!

TomTom 7: Unable to start. Not enough memory is available.

What the hell? Before I've changed the File system cache to auto it did work! But now that I have much more ram available about 21MB, it doesn't want to start. So I tried to go back to 4MB file system cache... but nothing, still that error message.
TomTom 7 is installed in the memory card... wtf???

I've had this happen before, and if I remember correctly, it was a corrupt Map File. I restored an earlier copy of my maps to the SD Card, and all was good again.
Try hiding your maps and see if TomTom will run. It should ask you to use a Voucher. If it does, then it's the map problem and TomTom is fine.
Nope, I've tried this tip but no success... It's really odd...
Hi Zooster. Sorry to hear about the headache you currently have.
I have had similar problems in the past month, the first time really freaked me out.
In my case, I noticed that some of the files on my sd card know longer showed up, and later discovered that others had indeed become corrupted.
I solved it (and continue to do so when it happens) by formatting my sd card and copying back onto it a copy I have of all the Tomtom files. Infact, once you get it working again, I suggest you regularly make a copy of whatever is on your sd card in case it happens again. For me, it seems to be ROM specific, i.e. only happens when I flash some of the new ROMs. Sometimes the sd card suddenly stops showing up in file explorer, sometimes I just need to remove tomtom and then reinstall it.
The problem for you now may be getting the original Tomtom files, I guess it depends where you got them from.
When I flash some ROMS, this problem occurs. I have to avoid ROMs that do that and choose another.
I hope you manage to sort it out. I know what's it like when these things suddenly go wrong for no reason! Best of luck.
Mattster.
Ok, I'll try to restore original files... I'll let you know.
WHAT TOMTOM FILES DO YOU NEED ON YOUR SD CARD?
There seems to be an awful lot of tomtom files on my sd card, so I've started to delete some and see if Tomtom still works. And it does!
I've got it down to:
My Documents folder with maps inside
Voices folder
plus the following files:
ALBUM.VOL
AutoRun
Autorun.exe-run
Start
TTN
TTN2003
ttnavigator.bif
I've lost the 2257 file (that apparently causes automatic self install of Tomtom when you insert the card) so if anyone has that I'd like it back!!!
So, my question to all of you Tomtom users is: Which files are actually needed for Tomtom to work?
(I know there is the tidy up option of chucking any mystery files into a folder, but I like to know what all files on my sd card are actually doing!)
Mattster.
Hmmm...
Just had this problem myself, but might have fixed it on my Artemis
Originally I copied the TomTom Navigator.EXE to \windows\start menu\programs and it worked
However; it stopped working with the "not enough memory error" - so I started disabling applications, uninstalling them etc.
Still no joy
Just out of interest tried the TomTom Navigator.EXE within the TomTom folder on my SD card - and it worked...
I've deleted the .exe from "my device" and created a shortcut to my SD Card and now it looks like it is working again
Going to keep testing now - but perhaps worth a shot

For tomtom, TTN is the installation file, the others can be all deleted.
After installation, we only need the following 3 folders:
1. maps
2. voices
3. zip
All of them need stored in sd card root path.
If you need the satellite view, then you need one more folder in your sd card root, which is "raster"
The file "ttnavigator.bif" is auto generated by tomtom everytime you use it, you will always find it is still there even you have delete it sometime before, just leave it. Also "ttnavigator.bif" is a log file for tomtom, so it is useful, dont delete this file.

In the 2577 (not 2257) map are the following files:
AutoRun.exe
Autorun.exe-run
TTN.cab
TTN2003.cab
So you just moved them to the root
The actual files for running TT are automatically stored on the device, not on the storage card

Thanks Arjan. Thanks for the reply.
What I'm curious to know is, after a new ROM flash (i.e. before TT has been installed on their clean device) what TT files do they have on the SD card.

Sorry, can't answer that. Flashed my rom quite a few times but never bothered to clean up my storage card. Probably still got Tom Tom 6 and or WM5 stuff on there
i had the issue with artemis and tomtom Navigator v7.910.9185. It was on sd. Then i deleted voice and raster folder and suddenly the problem solved!
Then i copied voice folder back to sd with 3 voices (before i had about 25) and now it works like charm.
I have had this same 'memory' problem on a few devices,
it has always been sorted by an SD card format and a card restore from my PC.
as to Tomtom after a re-flash ... I have never had any issues with it at all,
I just restore a full backup with SPB backup.
i have tomtom 7 ver. 7.910 on my p3600 running wm6 pro but seems to always come up no gps device can anyone help, please send me a message soon thanks mossy
Go to Change Preferences, Configure GPS, Click Configure, Tap left Arrow to show Other NMEA GPS receiver and tap Select, Set 4800 Baud and tap Done, Select GPS in COM9, and you are good to go. Click Done to go back to main screen.
I had the same problem once, install chaps advance config an relocate the internet temporary internet files.
by default they are located in: \windows\profiles\guest
if you use youtube a lot and google maps i can happen too.
I get this all of the time.
the problem occurs when my battery gets lower than 70% and I launch TomTom Navigator 7.
what i do now is make a copy of the Map Folder and keep it on my memory card.
I also make a zip archive and keep that on my device (not SD Card) in My Docs or somewhere else with a copy of the corresponding .dct file and .bif files and installers.
this way, i can restore tomtom onto another sd card if need be.
usually i format the card and restore the zip archive!
