Network Profile "Stuck" - MDA III, XDA III, PDA2k, 9090 General

Hello everyone! My SX66 is acting funny. I just hard-reset it yesterday to get a clean build due to some other bugs that popped up after hard resetting and interrupting the automatic ExtROM CABs installation. Now everything seems to work fine except that I can't connect to the Internet. The WiFi shows strong signal strength and that it's connected to the AP, but in the network settings it says that it's trying to connect to "Work." Well, I don't want to connect to "Work" cause I don't have a special VPN or anything, just a plain old AP. So I change the setting and click OK, but as soon as I do that, it changes right back. I've tried turning the interface off and on again after making the change, but it always reverts to Work. Does anyone know the Registry key for this value? I have had other instances where a value seemed to be stuck and I successfully changed it in the registry, but this one is stumping me.

Ok, now it appears that it's no longer the "Work/Internet" selector that's broken, it's the Network Chooser in the Settings menu.
Normally, you have My ISP, My Work Connection, and whatever your GPRS/EDGE provider is... In my case, it's MEdia Net. Well, there's a fourth network in there that appears to be sort of symlinking to the My ISP connection profile. I know it's not supposed to be there. I can rename it, but I can't delete it, and whenever I select My ISP as the default, the system selects the other "clone" of that profile. Other than doing another hard reset and hoping for the best, I'm out of ideas.

Uh... He he he... I fixed it... well sorta.
The AP wasn't connected to the internet.
It's not actually mine, it's my school's, but still...

Xda IIs & WLAN/GPRS issues

Upgraded from Xda II to Xda IIs end January and initially WLAN worked fine, but no GPRS. Went though process of creating GPRS connection (with O2 Support) and now cannot get IE to connect through WLAN. It always tries GPRS! Has anyone experienced this and/or got a solution?
Mike,
You will need to give us some more info on your settings.
If its an O2 unit with original firmwware if you back stuff up try a hard reset to get default settings back and ensure GPRS works then add the WLAN.
I live in Caldecote just outside Cambridge if you get really stuck we could meet up and you can try and copy my settings and check your SIM has GPRS enabled using mine that kind of thing.
Cheers Wayne
Many thanks Wayne. I'll do a backup and hard reset (with trembling hand no doubt) and see where I get to before getting back to you. Many thanks for the offer of help. I'm in Barrington, so it's not a million miles to come to talk if necessary.
you might already know this mike and if so at least it may be of help to others.
if your gprs connection is active then it doesn't matter wheather the wireless lan is on or off, internet explorer will always connect to gprs.
switch off gprs by clickiing on (in my case O2) your service providers icon and if "mobile web" is highlighted then click on it to switch it off.
Thanks, but I'd tried that and more. Eventually, as Wayne suggested, I did the dreaded hard reset and restored everything from scratch. I now have WLan working on my home LAN, but as I have such lousy GSM/GPRS coverage here I haven't yet tried to see if the GPRS side is now going to work. That's for tomorrow and where I started in the first place when I found it wasn't working! :?
Thank everyone for the suggestions.
Hello Mike
I had the same problem, and after thorough search I found the solution:
start->settings->connections -> advanced
select networks : both drop-down boxes are set to
"my work network"
This prevents the automatic gprs connections.
If you want gprs you can use the wireless manager
(start->programs->wireless manager)
and there tap the red gprs icon
In other words RTFM....

WM6 Issues - Fixes?

Hello all.
Here are all of the known problems that I am having. with WM6 2.01.
(1) Icons on top (connection bubble) never change with the exception of ActiveSync. 3G icon constantly stays on even if connected through WiFi. Shutting phone off still shows Cingular bars as if connected. (Known issue)
(2) Soft button configuration changes do not stick. If I change the programs associated with them, it does nothing.
Also, today screen shows Calendar and ActiveSync as soft key programs, although programs are actually Calendar and Contacts. (Its all jacked up!)
(3) I cannot connect to the internet with my celluar service. It is as if there are no settings installed. The bottom of IE says "Connecting ... 0 KB." Then I get a message saying "Cannot connect with current connection settings. To change your settings, tap Settings."
I have tried turning on/off, soft reset, etc., but have had no luck
---I have searched the board for an answer to #3, and I have found many people who have similar problems (does not work after 30 min, soft reset will fix), but I do not remember seeing anyone whose settings have completely dropped.
Can anybody shed any light into any of these 3 problems? I really do not use Bluetooth, so I haven't tried anything with it yet. But all other problems I have had, I have been able to fix by myself.
Thanks,
Kangle

Did you put your connection settings back in after you upgraded to WM6??
No, but I didnt save them.
My Wi-Fi is working fine, but I had to config those. On other updates I had done prior, my 3G connection was fine without having to setup settings.
If you have not already done this, you have to go under connections and set up your providers settings. To enter proper settings go to Start/Settings/Connections Add a new modem connection. Enter any name you want for the NAME ( example "Cingular ISP") and make sure that under "select a modem" tab, "Cellular Line (GPRS, 3G) is sellected. Click next access point name can be what ever you want to call the provider connection (Example "wap.cingular" or "isp.cingular"). And the rest I can not help you with untill we know who your provider is. I am sure if you let us know what provider you have, some one here can post the settings you need to have.
Hope this helps or at least gets you pointed in the right direction.
Awesome. Thanks for the help.
I am to the point where I need to enter user name, password, and domain. I wonder if I am going to need to call Cingular to find out some of that info (password).
Can anybody help me out with those settings?
Thanks,
Kangle
see https://www.cingular.com/support/deviceConfig.do?content=KB71396.html
but, if you had used the "SEARCH" button you would already have found this...
Go to https://www.cingular.com/support/deviceConfig.do?content=KB71396.html for the settings.
Now I have a quick question that I need to have cleared up. When I connect onlince with my CIngular 8525 it always connects via GPRS/EDGE and not 3G. I do not see a 3G icon come up. Is this becasue there is no coverage at my home? Or did I mess up something?
I am using:
LVSW WM6 RUU_Hermes_WWE_3.30.0.1 [FIXED]
Hard SPLv7
I used the cingular setting cab found from the WIKI
I am using radio 1.40.30.00
Band setting under phone are set to auto

TP2 looses WIFI settings

Anybody else find that if it can't connect to a wireless network, it deletes the saved settings? The most recent time it actually said invalid key and prompted for a new key rather than just doing the usual delete job.
Also, would be nice if you could paste into the touchflo 3D config page rather than having to go into the advanced config. Would be a small detail if I didn't have to enter the key again every time I go out of range!
Thanks
I know your problem. It's more a windows mobile problem.
At the moment you click on a connection (router) on your wm device, it will loose the network key. So don't do that.
I've had the problem with one router at our home, but it was the router was faulty. Often it wasn't possible to connect. We got a new one, and it didn't happen egain.
I also experience that the wifi connection drops with the TP2 several times a day. This does not happen with all the other devices so I guess that this is a TP2 specific problem....
My old TYTN2 didn't have this problem but I have heard the occasional complaint in the office. The TP2 consistantly looses the settings.
I contacted HTC support and that is what they recommend. Just applied the settings so I can't say yet if that works.
"I would recommend that you set your WLAN to best performance on your device. This will normally cure any network problems you are having. Please see the instructions below for more information. - Start - Settings - Connections - Wireless LAN - Power Mode - Move bar all the way to the left for Best Performance - Perform a soft-reset - Try and re-connect to your WiFi Network"
my wifi always not connecting...

got the same one .. will try the cure described bellow
Yesterday i had the same thing. I lied in bed, and turned on wifi. It tried to connect, and connect, but after a while, it says: new wifi network found.
So I connected, and I had to fill in again my wifi password… really strange.
TP2 looses wifi settings
Try configuring network key using WPA + TKIP instead of WPA2 which helped fixing my TP2 wifi settings

Automated Data Connection choose with user defined behaviour

Dear all,
since one week I have the TP2 and like it a lot. Until the TP2 I used to have an Iphone3G and now of course I have to change my user behaviour a little bit.
There is one big topic I would like to discuss here: DataConnections!
I have the problem, that I dont have a flat option for data from my provider. I have to pay by time and not by traffic. Hence I like to keep the time I am connected to the Net to a minimum!
Is it possible to realise the following with the TP2 (maybe with extra software)?
1. Mobile data connection only manually with immediate cut off after the transfer (for example if I press send/receive for mail). If I want to manually access the net there should be a short message box asking me to connect. Currently I have to use the CommCenter to switch data connection on/off. As I already use nodata to really cut off the automated connection behaviour, maybe this tool can also be used somehow to allow access and cut it off after the sending/receiving is done.
2. Wifi Scan constantly in the background (after manually switching it on) to scan for open networks or prefered networks. If some network is found, it automatically connects, checks internet, do all the other automated updates and stays connected until I manually disable wifi.
As you can see, I want to have some kind of automated, cost efficient, connection behaviour of TP2. The tool nodata, which I currently use is great to cut off the automated connection but is not very flexible
I am looking forward to exchange with you on that topic.
Regards,
dvdjimmy
...does really nobody else need something like this? Or am I just too stupid to use the onboard tools of wm6.1 correctly?
Regards,
dvdjimmy
take a look at bandswitch or commmgrpro...
you can use this registry entry,
for example this will kill automatic the connection after 10 seconds,
or if you dont use...
HKLM\Comm\ConnMgr\Planner\Settings\
CacheTime = 10 (sec.)
SuspendResume = GPRS_bye_if_device_off
http://forum.xda-developers.com/search.php
Dear all,
thank you for your suggestions. The registry is already a good start for me. Many thx. The commgrpro also looks very good. It seems to allow also the disconnect after a certain amount of time.
Anyway, I think I have to program it on my own: My dream would be to have a software which I can tell that I allow Access to the net from now on. Then the software is switching on wlan in the background and constantly scans for open or prefered networks. If such a network is found I would like to get connected to it. If somehow the WLAN connection breaks down and access to the net is no longer possible, the app should ask if I would like to use UMTS instead of WLAN right now. If I answer yes, WLAN is switched off, the data connection is switched on, the transfer is taking place and afterwards the connection is cut off completely and WLAN is switched on again and hopefully finds another open access again
So the main benefit would be, that automatically only the WLAN is allowed to connect. All the dataconnection by UMTS have to be allowed and are immediately switched off.
I would like to program something like this if you can help me on how to start with it, as I have not programmed a lot for the WM Platform until now.
With best regards,
Joachim

Problem connecting to Wi-Fi

Ok.. now that ive had time to cool off, here is the problem.
I work at a University. On a laptop, connecting to the Wi-Fi is a fairly painless process. Its a secure network, so it requires us to use our credentials (ie, our network login/pass phrase) to even connect to the Wi-Fi. Note that when i say pass phrase, that means its farily longer than a standard password. My own is somewhere in the neighborhood of ~20 characters.
The problem with my Touch Pro 2, lies in the final process of connecting to this network, where it will ask me for this information (login, password, domain). I get about 6 characters of my password in, before it pops up a message saying "Unable to connect", as if it thought i was done typing and went ahead and tried to connect.
Heres more info.
Auth: WPA2
Encryp: AES
EPA type : PEAP
Ive tried using Portrait keyboard, Landscape keyboard, and hardware keyboard.
edited for more info.
Seriously? NOBODY else has had this problem?
damn
my touch pro2 has this problem, too
anybody help us
I have connected to 3 Wi-Fi' with passwords of 8-10-12 characters and have no problem so far. Try making sure wifi is off before connecting??...Tj

umm.. then how will i see the network?
The issue is, in the way it asks for it. Its not something i can make a cert or something i can type before hand. Only thing i can do is try to connect, the Network will then ask me for a log in. If i manage to get it typed in, in time, i can save it and it will hold for a bit, until something happens like the network goes down. Which then, removes the saved log in, and i have to do the whole dam process over again.
No problem here and I use 20-character network keys on my WPA or WPA2 encrypted wireless networks (I manage or maintain several of my friends or clients networks)
Can you add and configure a connection to your network by pretending it to be a hidden network (non-broadcasting SSID)?
changing to hidden didnt work.
Ive also tried going into the Advanced settings, and on the LEAP tab, entering in my information manually, but when i do that and try to connect, it attempts to, then stops, tried to connect to a saved network that isnt in range, then stops like it didnt find anything.
LEAP - you need to configure to a domain network?
How did you try configuring for a hidden network?

Aye, we use a domain, and i have that info typed into it.
I just went though the network settings and check the box that it was a hidden network?
still having this issue. Trying to use the Enroll section by typing in my creds doesnt work, as it just tries to connect, sits for a second, then disconnects. At some point id like to try a cooked rom, but not gunna do that for a while (least till i read over it a couple more times) and even then can't guarantee the new rom wont have the same problem.
Any other suggestions?
bump-bump-bump
nobody know how to fix this hua
Anyone have any new info about this? i still cant type my password in fast enough..
Is their anyway to get it to WAIT for me to hit connect before actually trying to connect?
