Running T-Mobile 1.42 wwe rom. When composing texts you are allowed up to 160 characters per txt and naturally if you go over this number then you are on your 2nd/3rd txt etc. Has anyone encountered any problems with the txt count? For example there are occasions when I have only typed 324 characters and the system indicates that this is 5 txt’s instead of the beginning of my 3rd. Are you only charged for 3 or 5???
If this is a bug/problem does anyone know if there is a fix for this?
Thanks in advance JD76.
yes, this is a bug. However, this happens when you use short forms.
eg: doesn't, don't etc
to counter this problem, just press backspace ASA this problem occurs, it will make doesn't to doesnt.
well, this works for me
thank you kdskamal I'll give this a try...cheers I assume you are still only charged for 3 msgs instead of the 5?

Does anyone know what to add or remove or change in the registry to allow more than 160 characters on sending SMS ?
Thanks
this is a standard sms thing... you cant change how many characters to send in one message.. now you can type over 160 and your phone should display like 168/2 where the first number is characters and the 2nd number is how many sms' its going to send... and when it sends most newer phones will combine the 2 messages on the recieving device and it will display as 1
My O2 Xda Stealth shows as you described, however, it also gives me an error "Your Text Message cannot be sent". It works perfectly within 160 characteres (1/160) but as soon as you start with (2/320) shows the error when you hit SEND.
Any ideas ? Could you provide the Registry ?
Thanks
Maybe some restriction from your provider, I have O2 XDA Stealth too and I am sending longer messages without any problems...
Ok, thanks, let me go back an ask my Network provider to see if I have restriction.

This issue was a nightmare for me until I realized how to overcome with continuous efforts. In my case I use the arabizer and thus, I can send 160 char. in one shot (english) but when I change to arabic, the number of char. turns to 1/70 (i.e. max of 70 char. per shot).
Now, that wasn't the case always, I upgraded to one of the latest arabizer versions and surprisingly, everytime I wanted to send english sms it only allowed 70 char! I had no time to dig and find out why is this happening, though I crossed check between older cab files and new ones and found that among the difference was that the new one had two fonts files those are "tahoma" and when installed, voila the problem was solved.
The moral is it is not a standard SMS thing, it is something with localization characters. May be
This is not the case. The question if you can send full 160 characters or only 70 characters depends on the fact wheather you use ASCII or UNICODE. In case of use Arabizer or some special national characters (same for us here in CZ), you can send only 70 characters per one message, but then you can continue and you can see i.e. 75/2 and the longer message will be sent by 2 parts. But he cannot send more than one message at all...
In my case was the Network. For some reason there was a limitation on sending SMS. Network customer service did not resolve my case, I surfed in Internet and found some tricks for GSM networks.
Bottom line I just write down the following ##004#[SEND] and then I received a message from the network "Success" or something like this (don't recall). But it was enough to be able to send more than 160 characters (obviously the system splitted it in "n" numbers of SMS when you submit it)
Hope it could also work with other peoples
Hello,
I've suspected for a while(and confirmed with friends) that relatively often, my sms don't get to them. It's shown as sent in my phone and in the sms threads, but they simply don't recieve them.
So I tested it out with another phone, sending 5 sms' to the other phone and it only recieved the first one. the other 4 never got there... Now could this be some sort of anti spam causing it? - I did send them in rapid succession. However when I send messages from the OTHER phone to me, regardless of how quick, I get them all. And we're on the same network/provider so that doesn't seem to be the problem.
During regular use, even SMS' sent with lots of time inbetween gets lost occassionally.
I've never had this problems with my old phone so does anyone else have a clue why this is happening? As you can imagine, it's frustrating thinking someone has gotten a message but it never reached there.
Thank you.

Hey thanks for the reply, I saw that but doubt that's the same problem.. I usually list most of my numbers with +, and it shows the message is "sent". If it was the same problem as the link above, I guess it would b epossible to reproduce it everytime but mine is seemingly more random.
The specific number I tested it on was a number WITHOUT the +areacode, and even that produced 1/5 messages recieved by the other party.
Any other ideas?
I had that problem before with my touchPro. All I did was hard reset the phone, active sync my contacts and I sent out text messages. Everything worked fine after that.

Also checked http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=4016381&postcount=31 ? see if the number is still correct in windows mobile?
Also try to sent from the windows interface a couple of times (in the textmessage touchflo tab touch the new sms icon in the above right corner.) see if it does better then.

God you know what, you're right. Thanks. I did look through the WM sent folder before but not far down enough..
It does seem to drop the + after the first SMS then not reapply the + until I get a reply.
Annoyingly my phone still tells me "Message Sent" instead of invalid number though, so there's no way to tell if it sent the message without going to check the sent folder I assume?
Doesn't seem like there's a fix or even a confirmed cause for this yet?
I'm having a strange reversed problem: all SMS I send are regularly delivered, but I "miss" many incoming ones. the strage thing is that it happens (AFAIK) only with my girlfriend's ones!! nobody else still complained about me not anwering, so that should mean I received and answered all other mesages.
Please note that we have the same mobile operator (Vodafone Italy)
today she tried her SIM with her bro's phone, and guess what, the problem is still here BUT the difference is in lost messages: 4 out of five lost with her Moto v9, 2 out of 6 lost with her bro's nokia. that sounds really weird to me.
where do you think the problem might be? mine/her SIM, or phone?
I'll call Vodafone Italy later, but their assistance and support is really awful, they do not even know what they are talking about, and reply with the same pre-confectioned anwers every time.
Hi there,
A while a go I had problems when sendig a textmessage larger than 160 chars (so the message was actually 2 or 3 messages). They wouldn't arrive at the person I was texting.
I read somewhere this had to do with manilla 2.1, and PIMbackup.
I recently flashed the ernergy rom (september version) and the problem was gone, recently I flashed another rom, but it didn't suit me, so I want back to the energy rom, now that I've gone back, the double sms problem is back, anyone any ideas? I can't seem to find the thread which discussed this problem..
any help would be greatly appreciated!

Nope, tried it, but still nothing over 160 chars gets received by the other party, anything under 160 is good, anything bigger, nothing...
I just did a hard reset, and after the hard reset, I did not enter any contacts, I just typed a 2 message sms, sent it to the cellphone number, and still nothing... I'm confused, single messages do work
Hello,
I realize the limit for a text message is 160 characters. I am not asking about changing that.
Currently when I get to 160 characters I just can't type anymore. I want to keep typing. I realize the phone will break the text and send as many messages as needed. I just don't want to have to stop and then submit another text message.
I think this is only happening on the Arrive phones if I am not mistaken. Does anyone know how to change that?

Might want to have someone else with NODO (non Arrive) test that also. I know this does not happen on a pre-NODO Samsung Focus.
Thanks for the reply. Let's see if anyone else with other kind of phone experiments this after NoDo.
Same exact problem here dude, it's driving me nuts!
I made a thread earlier today about it on the 7 Pro forums. My theory is that it's turned off because CDMA doesn't have a good track record with sending txts that have 160+ characters.
Potentially, we will hopefully get a fix to this as our OS version is 7.0.7389.0 and not the 7390 thats being pushed right now.
I really hope they fix this
7090 doesnt have the problem, at least my mozart doesnt have it...
Hey everyone, I'm not sure if one of you has experienced this but I have been having something very bizarre occurring with my text messaging. ONLY (so far as I know) between my mom and myself, text messages occasionally get truncated and concatenated with random old messages. For instance, I just sent her a message and what she received was the first half of my message and the second half of a message I sent over a year ago (from a different phone, no less)! She has had the same phone the whole time, but we've restored it several times and nothing's helped (the portion of the message that gets appended is not even on her phone anymore). It seems to only happen between my phone and hers. My texts to everyone else go through fine, her texts to me come through fine, and others' texts to her go through fine, but periodically, our exchanges are just garbled nonsense. Has anyone else experienced this or does anyone have any ideas on what could be going on? I'd greatly appreciate any input!
Oh, it might be noteworthy that this seems to only happen when I send messages from my computer, but I don't think this is the culprit because I've used multiple desktop SMS clients and it's happened on all of them (and still only with my mom).
Edit: I just looked at two of the "broken" texts that she forwarded back to me and both got spliced after 154 characters. This doesn't seem like a coincidence to me but being that it's under the 160 character SMS limit, it also seems like a rather odd number. Perhaps someone can make sense of it.
Edit 2: I sent my mom a lengthy message simply saying "test test test ..." and got another unusual result. The first one, which was greater than 160 characters, went through just fine, but the second, which was closer to 500 characters exhibited this peculiar issue...But this time, the message was as follows: "test test test...[after 154 characters] __PORTION OF RANDOM TEXT___ [back to] test test test ..." Does anyone have the slightest idea why this is happening? It's so odd and now I'm mostly just curious about what the **** is going on and why it's following this pattern.
