o2 provide updated Roms for the XDA Exec. However im using a vodafone sim card and have noticed a severe degradation in battery life. My feeling this is due to specific O2 network configuration within the ROM which doesnt apply to Vodas network.
When using O2 sim card in the Exec the batt is fine.
So my question - Is anyone aware of where i can download a Vodafone ROM for their equivilent XDA exec to use in mine?
INteresting you found switching the SIMs fixed this. I'm using the T-Mobile ROM on mine, and also saw the problem with bad battery life. It mostly seemed to be to do with switching the radios off. If I used WiFi, and then turned it off, the battery went down like the wifi radio was still on. Similar for turning off the phone and BT. Only a soft reset got the battery usage under control again.
Until I took the old O2 radio_.nbf file out of the original XDA ROM - the 1.04 one - and installed that on top of the latest T-Mobile software. Not had the same problems since, although the battery still drains fast in poor reception areas...

Hi, What is the best Radio ROM for my Vario II which curently has
Pro black 2.5
SPL 2.10 opli v7
Radio ROM 1.40
I use T-Mobile UK.
I don't think the signal quality is very good on 1.40 as I was on the phone and my wife said her voice was echoing...? I was using my bluetooth headset...but it never happened before the upgrade..? Before 1.40 I had 1.41 and I couldn't even connect to the network
Also, why does the start bar sometimes hide....? and how can I add a running programs shortcut on the bottom like I had on WM5..I can't seem to do it....?
Sorry for sounding like a newbie..I've looked in the WIKI but can't find it
I had some problems with 1.40, ranging from no radio at all to bricking the device.
What did you settle on in the end? I'm also on T-Mobile UK.

I'm still on the 1.40 and it works ok actually but I think it could be better.
I have had no problems so far with 1.40 radio and lvsw 23/4.
Hi,
I was using 1.40.30.00 and found it to be a great improvement over the other radio's
I mainly use my phone in West London and Central London.
I have now moved to 1.41.00.10 and will test it performance over the next few days.
Thanks
Msuk
Hi,
Radio 1.40.30.00 caused my battery to drain very fast. Since updating to version 1.41.00.10 I have had no problems.
I tried 1.41 but found it to be a bit less stable than 1.40 which I have gone back to. That seems to be about the best in my experience but they all have an issue with dropping calls/being unable to make receive calls if the phone is having problems switching back and forth between GSM/3G.
I found 1.40 my signal strength was very weak, compared to previous version i'd used, especially 1.38.
But i have just installed 1.41 and it seems better again, i'm going to stick with this for a while and see how i get on.
ps. i'm not sure the WM6 forum is the best place to be discussing radios
Thats wierd. I have the same setup as some of you guys and when I put 1.41 in my network didn't come at all. I don't really want to try it again. But i'm thinking if I should
I am using 1.38.30.1 - it feels much better than 1.40.. in terms of battery life and reception is stronger than my experience with all the other radios tried. Speed seems fine, HSDPA works fine. However I stay mostly on GSM to save battery due to poor reception at home and switch to 3G/ HSDPA only when really needed.
T-Mobile UK and 3G problems
Guys, please note that if you have problems with 3G coverage - for example missed calls or problems with making calls - it is probably network's fault, not necessarily Radio ROM. I was experiencing such problems while using original T-Mobile's WM5 ROM. People couldn't reach me while I've had full 3G coverage in Central London, and I also couldn't place any call at all. Switching manually to GSM-only mode solved all problems. I've complained to CS about that, they admitted to have some 3G issues, and gave £25 discount of my bill. Also, friend of mine having Nokia N70 also reported similar problems with 3G, he switched to GSM-only and is far more happy now.
Anyway, I was using 1.38 Radio for about 2 weeks with no problems whatsoever. Since yesterday I have 1.41 - so far, so good.
I agree. Switching manually to GSM used to solve the problem. In some areas it looked like GSM and 3G were changing every 2 seconds. But I do need 3G for fast browsing.
It may be network problems but you'd expect a radio to be able to switch seamlessly without impact the voice service though wouldn't you.
I'm on radio 1.47 with black satin on tmob UK.
My mobile phone is useless when i speak to people all i can hear is a lot of crackle interspersed with words! I think they can here me.
Where can i find a radio to downgrade to and which is best for tmob uk?
ta

No joy...
I have tried Black Satin on my phone and had no reception problems.
I have just tried my current set up (see sig.) using my T-Mob sim...I did not have any problems with reception.
There is the 1.48 radio from the AT&T rom listed in WIKI perhaps that will help.

bb,
I am on T-Mobile UK with the radio version 1.47 and have no problems at all. I am not sure that there was any advantage with the move to this radio from 1.43 and I have seen others indicate that 1.43 was a radio optimised for the UK so it might be worth changing to that.
All the radios are on this site here: http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Hermes_ExtractedRadioRoms. You will also find links to the posts related to them so it may be worth a read. However, given your problem (which seems strange from what I have read and seen myself) I'd recommend checking you have HardSPL first then giving 1.43 a go. The highest numbers are certainly not always the best for everyone.
Good luck
t-mobile UK radio Problem
Try using radio 1.48, Im on t-mobile UK and using Schaps lastest 3.57a ROM with radio 1.48 its brilliant, no problems what so ever.

Radio 1.47+Black Satin+T-Mobile UK = perfect for me.
i tried radio 1.47 and hardly got any signal so now using 1.43 wich is very good, did try 1.48 before and seemed very good holds on to 3g more than 1.43 i think so i'm going to go back to 1.48 very soon.

So many of use are in doubt about the best radio - now if only we had a tool that monitored actual radio performance over a day or week of normal activity that could provide some form of objective assessment of performance of one radio and circumstances against another.
I find that for every 10 people in favour of a particular radio there are likely to be 10 more that think it is poor. Clearly locality (country/band/Edge/GPRS and 3G/HSDPA are all factors but? Can anyone create a capability to record forum user input for any given radio that also took account of location and provider - then we might more clearly see trends.
It is all too easy to be tempted by the latest radio and sometimes our assessments might well be clouded by anticipation rather than reality. I find that the apparent performance of the T-Mobile network is variable for even a given static location - that makes it difficult to make a sound judgement.
Ho hum... Shall I go back to 1.43 or give 1.48 a try?
I tried using 1.4.7 with Black Majic but it just didn't work that well.. I could here the other person perfectly however they could not hear a word I said.. I've upgraded to 1.48 and Black Satin and the reception is perfect (best yet) on T-Mobile UK.. only problem now is the wifi.
I've got a wireless N network and the signal in the house is full strength when connected however I have to manually click connect everytime using the option in the network settings.. The network is only using Mac Filtering so not sure what the problem is. I''ve tried to indicate that it is a hidden network but without joy. Anybody have any ideas?
1.46 is good for me (batt life is good too)
1.47 had issues,
Would it be possible to give your locations were you are experiancing these radio issues or bad call qaulity iusses please

Hi
Also T-Mobile UK - i have had problems with all custom roms - seems fine for a while then data dies requiring a reboot.
This changed with the new dopod release and 1.47.10 radio, then the latest sleuth 3.1 dev rom which is faultless for me.
I think the problem varies dependant on where in the uk you are, the sort of coverage you get - for the record im in Durham.
Steveapp
I'm in Cardiff, but I had issues in all South Wales with custom roms. The only one that worked fine with me is Orange 1.38.00.01 (I didn't even feel the need to try 1.48)

agreed, but I'm still running an older radio and its working fine also. The Dopod rom is the nuts.

Hi All
Im on Tmob UK and live in the Southampton area. I get a good signal in the area and frankly all the ater radios I have tried work ok. My particular problem is in builbding coverage in that I work in a large communications centre and inside the signal is poor to non existant. This is where I find the difference shows in the roms and the best for me is 1.27. It is one of the few roms that seems to reliably deal with a loss of signal and then reattaching the data connection after a period with no signal. It also seems to have the best poor signal acquisition.
Ive tried them all and have always gone back to 1.27, no others have been better and most have been worse.

Hi guys, I joined this forum recently and I have found it very helpful. I an XDA ORBIT O2, when i got it it was on WM5 and it once in a while lost the GSM signal and at times even when it shows full strength, I am still out of reach. Bluetooth also doesnt work, it keeps saying Hardware problem. I upgraded my rom and am now on WM6 and even though the experience is great, it still have my GSM and Bluetooth problems. Anyone, please advice...
Hi guys. Decided to do some research. What radio works best for you with 3UK? If you flashed ril as well, please include that information. Personally, best one so far is .14 which comes with the last 3UK froyo update.
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
32.54.00.32U_5.14.05.17 & HTC-RIL_1.6.1062G (see sig) works decently for me - is this the froyo one? Poor reception are and signal generally worse from later afternoon. Tried the new 5.17.05.08 & ril in my sig but reception was really poor.
Any others?

Agree on the latest one, but I noticed that it didn't completely loose signal for much longer than other radios. Has anyone tried earlier versions than .14, pre froyo.

I found it terrible difficult to connect to 3 at certain times - it would list it searching for networks, yet selecting it would result in 'Unable to connect to this network at this time'; I tried *#*#4636#*#* and chose wcdma only but it didn't seem to stick some times, GSM prl(?) auto I think worked sometimes. Assume it's just my poor reception.

Hey, did you ever manage to find a solution to this problem?
I have an Orange UK branded Desire that I have unlocked using sieempi's SIM-Unlock Utility, however when I inserted my 3 PAYG SIM it is doing exactly what you described in your post.
If I leave it for about half an hour it will connect to the 3 network with full signal strength, however, after a while it will revert back to 'Unable to connect to this network at this time'.
I decided to test it out today whilst I was out and about to see whether it would work correctly in a better signal area but it managed to kill my phone's battery after around an hour.
Now usually my battery life is perfect, and using my current Orange PAYG SIM under Oxygen 2.1.3 will last for at least a full day, using Wi-Fi, GPS and mobile internet.
I desperately want to switch to 3 though as there AYCE on PAYG for £15 a month is pretty hard to beat!
Anyone have any ideas?
Have you guys tried flashing different radios and checking your APN's? Especially for Dazeon, as you are on Orange. Latest official radio was that one http://dl.dropbox.com/u/26257623/Radio/32.48.00.32U_5.11.05.14.zip , but I use all the later ones with no problem at all.

Sorry, I don't think I was as clear as I could have been in my last post.
I have zero problems on Orange using radio 5.11.05.27, everything is perfect.
The problems arise when swapping out my Orange PAYG SIM for my 3 PAYG SIM, which is what I would like to use.
The test I conducted today was using the 3 network.
I'm thinking there might be an issue with the SIM unlock.
As I speak I have full signal with 3, with a little 'R', even though roaming is definitely not selected. However, I still have the triangle icon on the left with the exclamation mark informing me that it could not connect to the current network.
If I pop the Orange SIM in then all is good.

ThreeUk uses Orange for roaming in certain areas, that's why you see R and can't connect to 3uk network. Try in different area.
I have a Vodafone Sure Signal femtocell device, which connects to my broadband and provides a localised 3G signal in my house, as network reception here is poor.
I have 2 other phones connected to the SS just fine, but the One X is intermittently losing the connection and needs a reboot to re-connect. There have been some other posts on the Vodafone UK forums from folks with a One X, not many but enough to make me wonder if there's a more common problem.
Does anyone else here have a Sure Signal, and if so, are you having any problems with it?
I don't personally have it but my friend does and he is getting drops constantly he is not best pleased as he had yellow spot issue aswell aha i think he's going to thro the OX off the wall shortly. He has phoned regarding this and got nowhere
Thanks for the reply. VF have contacted me after I posted on their eforums, I've raised a ticket and they're investigating. I'll report back if anything improves.
VF UK are really pushing the One X, so if there is a problem, I imagine they'll want to get it fixed.
do the vodafone handsets have vodafone firmware? i have a factory unlocked non branded unit I'm using on vodafone with SS and hab=ve had zero problems!
Thanks for the reply. I got mine from dialaphone and it's pure stock WWE. It's working now, but still a little flakey. If it loses connection to the SS, I turn airplane mode off and on again and it works again (quicker than a reboot).
Most of the One X users with problems on the VF forum have their old number on a new sim card, which apparently can cause the Sure Signal to bug out a bit until the new sim is registered. Mine is a brand new number though. It's lasting a day or so before I have any issues.
The SS has always been a little on the flakey side, though, I need to reset it every so often - but that's been weeks or months apart rather than days.
I have one of the older models with 4 lights, not sure if that makes a difference.
Half wondering if it's the phone not the SS, but will see how it goes for the next few days.
I have had very poor suresignal performance...and have swapped out one phone already after speaking to HTC.
But have found that by turning off WIFI, it seems to be a lot happier, and the replacement phone acts just the same as the first (sim free from CPW)
But without WIFI, all data comes out of your data plan, and not from your broadband even thought the SS uses the broadband connection.
I never got to the bottom of my sure signal problems with this phone until I installed cyanogenmod.
However I recently installed sense 5 and my phone would again not connect to my sure signal. I have gone back to cyanogenmod and the problem still exisits.
Can someone who uses a sure signal please tell me which radio you are using by going to settings, about phone, baseband version
Many thanks
