Hi all
This is my first post but i have been reading in the forums for a couple of days to see if i can work out how to fix my pride and joy by myself.
I tried to upgrade to WM6 and it seemed to halt mid update and i lost my active sync, it was only a few seconds into the update and i stupidly left the sd card and sim card in the device, this may have been the problem. I can get to the boot loader screen as i can see serial and v1.00 on the grayed out screen. I see USB in place of serial in the boot loader screen when i connect the USB lead and also hear the connection sound on my computer. I know that active sync is working as i have connected my c500 smartphone to check. I have also reinstalled Windows mobile device center. I have also tried to connect on my XP lappy and when i try to start mtty 1.42 it blue screens my lappy (anyone else seen this or have a solution?)
Main thing is can i use an SD image to flash a new rom
If not how can i get active sync to see my device
anyone know a good repair shop in the UK
I really have hunted the forums for an answer to this problem but can't readily find a solution any help gratefully received. Also reassurance that my XDA is not totally dead would be nice.
XDA EXEC
Running boot loader screen only
trying to restore using Vista and Windows XP pro
Yu have not been reading verry well!!!
That is easy to fix, just read WIKI
Disable usb in active synh!!!!
Hi thanks for the speedy reply, but i did try disabling the USB connection in active sync and nothing altered. I may be missing something tho so will have another look at the WIKI. Maybe it's because im using Vista, reason being that my lappy running XP is blue screening, would i be better using the lappy and fixing the mtty problem? If you could give me a link to the easy fix so i could find it a little faster. I really wanted to sort this out myself but i am also concerned that my pda is screwed and although all you maybe see a lazy n00b that hasn't read the site very well i have put in a large number of hours reading, i admit flashing firmware is not something i do every day and im a little out of my comfort zone and a few pointers would be very much appreciated.
I have some staff in my folder wich helped me in any problem situation i have ever been.
Try to borrow someonce PC...
Dont use hubs.
Use the same USB port for the whall proces
Done all of those but still no active sync connection! Is there some way the profile for the PDA in active sync can be removed to allow a clean install? Or can i flash some way with the SD card and avoid Active Sync altogether?
I appear to have sorted the problem now. It would seem that the IR port was conflicting with my active sync connection, i was getting a blue screen and a message about ircomm.sys when i disabled the virtual IR port in control panel my pda connected to the mity application without any problems. Hope this will help someone else that is stuck on the same problem.
Hi everyone, I have tried very hard to find a solution to this problem. My P3300 stopped syncing with Mobile Device Center every time I plug in the USB cable. Is this a cable fault or is it hardware/software malfunction? Has anybody experience the same issue? Even with bluetooth my pc can not find my P3300? The USB cable charges the phone no problem but there's not connection from the PC to the P3300... Any help will be deeply appreciated.
if you look in the activstnc box under file
connection settings
make sue all the options are checked
If you have already checked this I'm at a loss apart from to reinstall AS on your PC.
Good luck
Pete
Thanks peterbutler19 for your input...yeak I made sure that everything was checked..also noticed that everytime I plugged in the USB cable there wouldn't be any reaction at the PC... like not even seeing an external USB device... besides only charging the P3300. Its quite a troubling issue.
Don´t know why it happens, but i found that is a problem with windows media player in windows vista.
It´s an issue between, WMDC and WMP.
Hi I use to have same problem, I think is the rom version that you use or a program that you recently install. The way I fixit was only hard reset because the re-installing of activesync dont resolve nothing.
Ark666, hmmm didn't thought about that... I might give it a try and see it that solves the problem. So far now I can only charge the phone and that's about it...
I did a hard reset on the P3300 ryomahino, but the problem still persist. I try to install the WM6 original ROM but can't do since the phone can't activsync with the PC. By the way I am using the B&B v4.2 ROM

I don´t remember the site, but do a google search, it has worked for me, it has nothing to do with the device, the problem it´s Vista itself.
Go here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=304131&page=3, post 27.
Media Player may not work after this.
Cheers.
I too had a problem with my Compact III loosing its sync with Vista.
It drove me up the wall. Somedays it was fine others it just reported a red cross... I had to go into Device Manager on the PC and remove the drivers manually and then resinstall them. But over time it would loos the syncing again.
I eventually solved it by using a different USB port on my PC.
I was originally using the USB hub that was built into my Dell monitor, but whenever the screen was powered down and the PC left on (ie overnight) the hub didn't always wake up properly.
I know only use the USB ports built into the back of the PC and I have had no problems for several months.
Hope it helps
I had the same problem with my O2 XDA Orbit.
The only thing that cured it was a hard reset
I am having a very annoying issue with my Galaxy Nexus. When I connect it to my PC, it recognizes the device, however, constantly connects and disconnects. The USB cord is not moving. My other USB devices connect and stay connected (hard drives, mouse, printer, droid). I found this post attached, however, therre is no PhoneUtil code for the Galaxy Nexus.
Does anyone out there know how to solve this issue?

Have you tried another usb cable?
yes. same thing happened.
I have the same issue on 2 separate Galaxy Nexus phones now. no solution yet. I am on the phone with Samsung to see what they can do.
thanks for the reply. please keep me posted. i havent resolved my issue yet.
I've tried changing it from MTP to PTP and turning after switching between the two. I've tried two different roms, one based on 4.0.4 and 4.0.3. I've Tried several different USB cables, including the ones that came with my G2x and Nexus One. I've tried it in a USB 3.0 Port. I've tried using different kernals. Even when I get into recovery, windows still doesn't read somthing is attached. I've been transfering ROMS to it via dropbox. I don't think it's a rom issue as it should still show up in windows when in recovery. Also on those roms I made sure that they didn't have "USB Fast Charge" enabled, as I heard that can cause the issue I'm experience. Thinking it was an issue with CWM, I downgraded it, but still no USB. I'm stuck here. Any help is greatly appreciated.
The 1st posts pdf seems to be the most logical solution, we just need the phoneutil code for the galaxy nexus.
This seems to be a common issue with the GNex, see http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=23789 and http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1427539.
Please star/comment on the google issue tracker.
thanks for your post. the issue in the posts you included seem to be a different issue. those refer to the battery and charging icon, while my issue is related to the computer recognizing and connecting with the phone. i am going to post something on the google board though, i havent seen that one before. thanks!
It's the same issue...
Before I had the problem with the charging icon it started just like your problem...seems to be a problem with the usb plug....only solution is to send it to repair or exchange the phone.

What annoys me is that when I got the phone it was already rooted and I didn't have a chance to try it stock or back up the original. It was rooted with an older version, so I flashed 4.0.4 on it. Check out the reviews on newegg I'm not alone in reporting a messed with Galaxy Nexus.

I found a fix for the issue
This was a very frustrating issue for me. I just purchased the phone yesturday to have an issue like was unacceptable. After hours of frustration, I found a solution. First off, download the offical driver pack from samsungs website. Once you have the pack installed, plug the phone back in. Once you have completed this, go under development and enable USB debugging. After the debugging, you should have a stable USB connection and wired tethering will work. I hope this helps you guys with your issue. It resolved mine. This was also done running Windows 8 beta.
I need help getting my Windows 7 x64 to recognize my GNex.
Whenever I plug it in I dont hear the default USB plug-in sound (Windows), but my phone is charging.
I cannot mount my storage either in recovery or inside Android.
My device manager is not showing errors and my GNex at all.
Tried installing the Google USB Driver from SDK, no luck
Tried PDANet which did not install because of missing drivers.
Use a program called usbdeview and uninstall the drivers you have installed for the Gnex. Then use the galaxy nexus toolkit to install the correct ones.
You dont by chance have the "fast charge" mod enabled through your kerenel do you? Because if so you will need to disable the feature first before plugging up to you Windows machine.
This is starting to become an "epidemic".. :O
I can almost guarantee that it's usb fast charge, devs should really put a warning on that

I too have a Win7 x64 laptop and had a similar issue, but the Device Manager did report an error with the Android 1.0 and/or Samsung driver. I had to manually update driver for it to work thru Device Manager.
Woops. Well there are some ways to check what is disturbing the connection. Let's start at the beginning:
Check if your phone is configured to interact with your computer. After conneting your phone you should get a selection list in your phones notification bar. Make sure to select usb storrage from that list.
On your windows computer go to [start] and type "device manager". After the application (that shows all hardware devices connected to the system) loaded connect your phone and check if something changes. If everything works all right you should get your nexus. If a question mark apears double click it to check the problem.
Try yo connect your device to another computer or with another cable. If the problem is not solved by above steps contact your seller.
If this is not possible install Airdroid and connect your phone to your computers browser or ES file Explorer to browse your pc over the network

Ok, I'm having this issue, but Windows doesn't even recognize anything is plugged in! I tried it on a TON of computers at work with several different USB cables. Nothing! All I get is charging, but no options in the top menu or anything. Is this a toasted Nexus? I just got it, now I can't even transfer files to its storage. I've been transferring files through dropbox...which is annoying...if it is USB Fastcharge, how do I disable it?
Their IS a fix for this, but we need the code to get into the PhoneUtil menu and turn USB back on.
It's an issue with Samsung phones apparently, and here's a fix someone found a while ago.

We just need the PhoneUtil code for the Galaxy Nexus and we should be all set.
Check your drivers

My issue is definitely hardware. I sent my GNex back and they sent me back a new one which I received yesterday. I checked and this one wasn't previously rooted or Unlocked. It worked for a day (worked as in windows saw it and I could xfer music/books/comics to it) after I get home from work Windows stopped recognizing it. I did NOTHING to the phone, it just stopped being seen by windows. I only used the cable that came with it and charged it the night before using the supplied adapter, but the USB still stopped working. Last resort I did a system restore to the phone and the USB still doesn't show up in anything ,Tried 5 of my Windows PC's A bunch of PC's at work, my friends Mac, my Ubuntu powered Netbook, my Xbox360 and PS3, even the Transformer Prime using the keyboard dock. This is telling me it's a hardware issue with the Device. Might be somthing wrong with the latest batch of GNex's but the USB seems to give out. Even if I put the phone in ODIN mode NOTHING recognizes it. So, before you all waste your time finding a fix, this is 100% absolutly a hardware issue with these phones, I don't know why, but I had Two bad ones in a row, and am Hoping my 3rd isn't borked too.
I have a bad history with Android phones....My first Nexus One wouldn't stay on, so I got a replacement from HTC. My first two G2x's would constantly reboot, It wasn't until the 3rd one that I got a working one. Now I'm hoping I don't have to go through 4 bad Galaxy Nexus' before getting one that actually works!
I have the opposite luck with tablets....the Novo7, Iconia A100 and Transformer Prime have been perfect outa box. This ordeal with android phones makes me seriously consider exchanging the GNex for an iPhone4s....but the iPhone4s screen is SOOOOO tiny!!!
Just came back from holiday so I've got some pictures to store on my computer, but I can't get my phone to connect to it. It charges fine when connected which is also bemusing, since it can't do anything else. It's definitely not my computer's problem as I've tried other computers to no avail. I've been looking around the internet but none of the solutions worked for me.
My Nexus is rooted with stock ROM on 4.2.1 Jelly Bean and hasn't had many other problems in it's lifetime, although sometimes when I go into the Gallery app it will tell me "No external storage available" and I cannot use it until I restart the phone, where the problem diminishes and reappears after a few days. I was wondering if these problems were linked in any way perhaps?
Thanks for any input guys, would really appreciate it

You tried a different USB cable? Just a thought...
Is USB fast charge enabled?
I had the same problem - turns out it wouldn't connect on my PC's front USB ports, but does work on the rear ones.
first be sure that fast charging is disabled, second try other usb port if not try other usb cable if not try another computer, if not...i dont know!
Maybe usb-debugging is on and your PC has a driver Problem with usb-debugging?
Else: Go to device management and look if the device is properly shown also galaxy nexus.
Else2: I don't know. Maybe open the window and throw your PC as far as you can

That cannot be the issue. I did not have USB debugging enabled but I was still able to transfer the files. But, you can try re-installing the Google USB Driver or Samsung Driver for I9250 or was it I515?
Cheers
Check on computer that device is showing in devices and has correct drivers installed. If not samsung official manuals and downloads website (google it) has a driver pack (approx 30mb) which when installed should have every samsung driver you could need, download and run then reboot computer and plug in phone, all drivers needed should now install correctly.
Also check in usb options when first connected that mtp is checked so storage is visible to computer. Best of luck and if all else fails pc out of window sounds like fun
P.S. try flashing latest gapps to fix gallery issue, after dalvik and cache wipe, may solve gallery issue...
