here's a mystery :
while not connected to the charger (althogh the battery is charged) the BA will not turn on.
if i plug it to the charger, it then wakes up and starts as if it was hard reset but wether i wait for 20 seconds and do nothing (just keep looking on the "Windows Mobile ...tap the screen to....") or proceed with the touch screen alignment untill it gets to to setting up the device - it all of a sudden hard reset again !!
any idea any 1 ? what could that be ?
OK, I solved the problem
After thinking for a while on the matter and after looking in the hardware specs at WIKIS link ( http://www.electronicproducts.com/whatsinside/viewteardown.asp?filename=HTC_XDA_III_web.html )
I came across a fuse which was burnt - I replaced it and VOILA !!!
the device is once again operational.
attached is the picture of the fuse.
i hope it will help anyone who has a similar problem.
enjoy, yol.
Are you sayin that there is a fuse that you DONT need to solder in there?
I had a look at that page and got no were.
Did add the link to wiki techy section
Basicly, this a soldered SMD fuse. i took the wire out of a 2A regular fuse and solder it to the burnt SMD fuse as i curently dont have a fuse like the original one (i made this just for checking it solves the problem - which it does) - i will get a fuse like that on thursday and replace it with the bad one.
MDAIIIUser, I think there should be a page or a section that has to do more with hardware and technical stuff, a page that will gather this kind of information from all users...

Well I for one won't be doing that upgrade as I have enough problems getting my eggs in the pan for breakfast.
Wiki is the place for that

Hi all
Now it takes me more than a month to upgrade my JASJAR due to a lot of problems I faced during this upgrading adventure… anyway, the last problem I still have is that after upgrading the screen goes crazy, I mean if you press on the screen the colours are mixed for few seconds and then its ok but at any time I touch the screen again the same happened so you can imagine what if I am going to dial a number or write a message …. So can anyone advice me what to do? …
The rom version is 1.13.82
Radio 1.04.02
Extrom 1.13.188
And I think the bootloader 1.00 and I don’t know why I feel that the bootloader is the reason ... I made a deep search but I couldn’t find problem like mine
I assume you hard reset at least 1 time right?
and tried in setting --- screen?
try to flash again..
uuummm Sorry i dont know what more...
Sounds like a hardware problem with your screen.
I had the problem with the white screen and sometimes striped blue white screen. I noticed it happening when putting pressure behind the battery on the side.
I opened it up to check if the connection was loose on the coaxial cable to the mainboard but it was OK so I put it back and tightened the four screws on the case really well. Then the white screens had disappeared so far. It's been 20 hours and no white screen yet. Hopefully that fixed it.
It seems your problem is when you use your touchscreen so it might be a loose connection coaxial cable on the LCD part or mainboard or maybe your coaxial cable might be broken inside. Goodluck!
to clemsyn
I think it may be lose in the cable connection even it happen after the upgrade and I tried to check the cable and I removed the screws but it is not enough for check so if you can tell me how to open the cover after removing the screws
thanks all for help

Hello Tech GURUS,
I returned from a long tour (I kept my XDA EXEC at home) & found that my XDA EXEC has got a problem of WHITE SCREEN!! Nothing is Displayed!!
May be brother's childrens or anyone of my friend accidentally did it in my absence(Sorry I'm NOT Sure). May be they pivoted (Turned) the screen in a WRONG DIRECTION!
That doesn't matter WHO DID IT, But the problem screwed my head & I started to trace the problem.
Symptoms:
1) Only WHITE SCREEN(with LCD Backlight), Nothing Else.
2) Charges perfectly through USB & also from Charger.
3) When I connects it to ACTIVE SYNC, it Syncs fine & I can able to explore the files/folders. Copy from & to the handset memory is also works fine.
4) Tried to enter into BOOTLOADER Mode(by pressing Light+Power+Reset), there also got a BLANK SCREEN (NO LCD Backlight).
5) TOUCH SCREEN detects TAPs & make sounds (Tick Tick), That indicates Touch Screen Working fine.
6) Qwerty KeyBoard Works fine. I don't know at what extent, since I can't see nothing on screen. But when I press a key on QWERTY Kbrd, it sounds Tick.
7) Transfered(Beamed) a CONTACT from my another XDA IIi & found Its accepted the beamed data.
8) Volume Up/Down make sounds (Tick, Tick...).
What I Did:
1) Removed the Battery & re-inserted & tried to BOOT it. NO result, just a WHITE SCREEN.
2) Purposely Tried to Rotate the Screen in Wrong Direction to test the loose contacts of co-axial cable.
3) Lastly Dis-Assembled the whole handset (Removed all parts 100%) & Re-Assembled it. But the Problem remains SAME.
4) Dis-Assembled again & this time I tested the LCD Co-Axial Cable's connectivity from MainBoard side connector to LCD Side Connector. There are 2 Cables which connects to LCD. One is 30 Cores Cable & Second one is 40 Cores Cable.
I Successfully tested 30 Cores Cable(Actually it used only 28cores cable, remaining 2 points at connector are DUMMY) & Second 40 Cores Cable I'm UNABLE to Test Since I lost my patience while connecting my Testing Meter to Hair Line sized cores & in just an 10mm connector got 40 cores!!!
5) Observed all cores which passes through SCREEN ROTATOR BASE Hinges & found there is NO physical Damage or CORE CUT.
CAN ANYONE HELP ME TO SOLVE THIS WHITE SCREEN PROBLEM?
IS IT A HARDWARE BASED PROBLEM? OR SOFTWARE BASED?
IS IT A PROBLEM WITH DISPLAY CHIP(IC) ON MAINBOARD?
JUST CONFUSED & SEEKING HELP FROM TECH GURUS.
THANKS IN ADVANCE.
HellCrusher.

This seems to be a hardware problem. Check connectors in the display housing first. This unit is quite easy to disassemble.
Before you start, you should have a look in the universal SERVICE MANUAL to check out how it gets torn apart .
If all connectors to the display are right in place, but your display still shows nothing ...open the universal body too.
Folow the steps in the manual

White Screen
Hello, this is my first post. May I first just say how great I think this site is, the guides on here really are useful to beginners.
With regard to the white screen, not sure if this helps, but during dismantling of my various PDAs, I managed to connect an LCD ribbon incorrectly, I kind of forced it in & folded one contact over, resulting in white screen. Disconnected, straightened & refit. Hey presto, works like a charm. Hope this helps.
I had the issue, had to buy a new flat cable
It is rare to actually see the damage to the cable, because the damage is inside the insulation....
Best regards!
On the topic...
Hello!
I have a similar issue with my Orange SPVm5000, except that mine will work for up to a minute after a hard reset before going to a white screen.
If I hard reset pressing the left+right+reset keys, the device shows the boot screen and sometimes ever goies into the initial setup but then all of a sudden it goes white. I've opened up the screen and verified and reconected all connections but still the problem persists. Also I've noticed that its not any action I make that causes it; more like a heat/timing issue. Per advice above, I will check the connections in the body but does anyone have any other ideas?!?
Thanks!
Greg.
I have a similar problem. The story;
I purchased an orange branded M5000 on flebay described as second hand in fantastic condition blaa blaa.
When the phone eventualy turned up it had no manual, the outer sleeve of the box was missing and the wrong usb cable was supplyed (one of those larger usb plugs you usualy get for printers.
I have shedlooads of cables and rely wasn't bothered about any of these problems at the time and went about charging the phone (it was totaly flat)
When fully charged I stuck my sim in and poweded her up the phone works fine in portrate and landscape view but as you rotate the screen so it is inline with the keyboard the screen fades to white about half way.
I contacted the seller who basicly told me the phone is second hand so sold as seen!?!?!?
I have flashed various roms on it to see if it was a software fault but nothing.
I think this phone had been in storage as its battery was totaly flat and incorrect accessories suggest the seller didn't check it before shipping. So I believe there is a problem with this phone that occurs when stored.
Sorry for the long post
Have you flashed any rom or just had this problem ...
my conclusions:
1. If you have flashed a new rom to your universal, try to reflash the original rom, it works for many users.
2. If you havent flashed any rom, maybe its a hardware problem.
2.1 If you just used it in a bad way, (ie: rotate screen in wrong way), dissamble it..
2.2 If you have let it on a heat, weat, etc.. place.. maybe the mainboard got a cut-circuit.
Saludos
I tryed a couple of popular WM6 roms (I forget whitch ones) and returned to the genuine Orange WM5 rom. So I doubt its a software fault.
As far was extreme conditions go the phone was well packaged when posted I will gove that to the seller SO unless the eposure happened before shipping I don't think thats to blame ether.
I think the wire in the swivle joint is failing and will continue to get worse as the joint is exercised.
Try to clear it up..

Sounds like the image could not be loaded completely.
The framebuffer is initialized correctly after cold boot, but afterwords booting into wince fails.
So maybe it's pure software issue (flash content is corupt -> image is broken).
Other possibility: Some region of your flash is damaged (more hardware related).

Looks to me like a typical cable issue. Maybe someone twisted the screen the wrong way!
So this is what i guess at least.

White screen
99 % of these white screen faults is a typical cable issue. And you don't have to twist your screen wrong way to have this problem, also.... just twist it too often First you have to see if the device is working, apart the screen.... call the number of your phone see if it is just screen related problem. Broken display cable will leave your device oprational, you just don't see the image.
I know it is "less painfull" for people to think it is a software problem.... (The "it would not happen to me" syndrome ) but sometimes things just brake, and moving parts are most risky...
The fact you don't see the damage is of no importance due to the size and nature of the damage. Don't expect to see broken wires in the cable. And even if you check the cable by you instrument, somethimes it will show you it's ok, but in some positions it will loose contact.
Try a different cable... that way you'll be sure.
Best regards, and all the luck!
"Looks to me like a typical cable issue. Maybe someone twisted the screen the wrong way!"
I agree and luckily, finally paypal do as well.
It is being boxed up to a red faced seller as we speak.
A happy ending for me (speaking to soon?)

hi all gurus,
my artemis recently got a white screen of death..
symptom
- the whole screen slowly becomes white
- will happens especially in hot (outdoor, noon time, or when loading big programs)
- the phone itself is noticeable hotter than normal when white screen happens...
- need to unplug the battery in order to restart.. soft-reset wont work when screen goes white..
- at early stage, still can connect to pc and flash new ROM, but now, cannot connect to pc already (pc just wont recognize it)
- the screen is seems to be shaking left to right all the time (a noticeable extra 5 pixels appears on the left most border of the screen, and the goes disappear, repeatingly)
- have already replaced a stable and clean ROM at the stage were the ppc still can connect to pc (i use the ROM before for few months, no problem)
- have try to switch on with a new battery, problem remains..
- battery drains quickly...
does anyone face this kind of problem before? it is hardware problem right? i search on the time, some says is the CPU need resoldering, some says need to replace the LCD ribbons... but the unfortunately things is, no pda repair expert near by area...
any feedback is apperciated. Sorry if my english grammer is not so good.
thanks.

i have bought a new battery and it still happens.
I now only get the following on boot:
IPL: 3.04.0001
SPL:1.11.0000
GSM: 03.08.90
I don't get the fourth one and it no longer loads - does this mean that the os is fluffed..?

Hi...
I had the same prob. as in first post here...with my aretemis.Tried to fix it (after i ve read sh... load of threads) by heating up board and CPU (I was pissed so I just wanted to destroy it) and I managed to do so.
Now I get only red led when it is con.to PC.
After that I found post of some guy from ROMANIA who claims that he managed to fix it by one of these:
1. reheating CPU
2. changing CPY clock crystal
3.(I can't recall third thing, but it was hardware too)
After that I went on eBay, got a better one and now I'm happy with my new artemis, plus I have spare screen battery etc..in case I damage it somehow...
Ah yes...before I tried to f...(fix) it, I found that my warranty is expired for 1 month....so you can imagine why i lost my patience.
i know this will bring you down, sorry, but I had the same symptoms...
now I'm changing custom roms to see which one fits me, and still i get amazed with this beautiful phone....
cheers,
Z
Looks like a general problem with no fixes/solutions to be found anywhere.
My solution:
Get rid of this HTC sh!t and roll back to Motorola...
Found a solution!
Still being under manufacturers warranty, I took it to the repairs agents, they replaced the motherboard and voila!
Never blame a WSOD on software...
**Just to be clear, I am not responsible for anything that goes wrong with your device but actually, your phone is pretty much useless with this issue if it isn't fixed so lets just give it a shot like I did**
So I bet a couple of you guys may heard of this issue, I'll be giving the link on what this issue is about (if i can find the link).
Do note that this fix will result in damaging the exterior of your phone if you don't do this carefully. Lastly before we begin, you'll lose a power button completely and switching it on requires your phone Charger and a few button combinations
Now in order to fix this, you'll need
• A plus-tipped screwdriver
• A flat head screwdriver (bigger ones are prefered)
• Your "unusable" Galaxy W
• A whole lot of patience
1st step is easy, just disassemble your phone till you have removed the Main Board. There is a guide you can follow to do this on YouTube by the Channel L355ON5 if im not mistaken
2ndly, when you get to the main board, flip over your board such that the main camera module is faced down.
3rdly, you're gonna find your power switch. When you found it, you can see that it is made of 2 colours orange and white.
4th, heres the tricky part, use your flathead screwdriver and apply pressure and scrape off the white part of the switch COMPLETELY. Its okay if you damaged your power switch because you won't need it anyways.
To check if your phone is fixed, you can clip the Display's flex cable into the main board, and then use your battery and connect it to the 3 pin contacts. If your phone did not boot, thats good news because from Keith's post (if you can find it) we know that if you try to insert the battery in the phone, it will automatically switch on by itself and that means that you haven't fix the issue nor solve anything really.
So lets say everything went correctly as mentioned above, you can now screw the parts back together.
So to turn your phone ON, connect your Phone to youe wall plug and then quickly press the button combination keys for going to Recovery Mode upon switching on you your wall plug switch. You shld then be able to go to Recovery Mode and reboot your device
Now all of this may sound scary to you but I've done all of these steps and I got my Wonder back exactly a year after I broke it. :sly:

These 2 videos are where you should be watching before trying in case gd luck
Hi there,
I tried to open my Xiaomi Mi5s in order to "clean" the camera lens, for some (no) reason some dust went inside the case. So... I followed a YT video where I slighty warmed up the device with a hairdryer (to warm up the inside glue), removed the screws at the bottom + SIM card, and started pulling things with a lift pump (don't know the correct english word for this tool, should be clear though I think).
Unfortunately the display itself got released from the main board, the main board remained in the case. That was not intended obviously. I realised this quite early fortunately, and the cabling from the display to the board was not folded at all or something, so I pushed back the display straight away, brought it back into the original position. But then the sensor at the bottom became hot for a few minutes, and the devices cannot be switched on any longer since (only the LED at the top-left blinks "red" from time to time, like every hour or so when having the device connected to the power).
So... this is the current situation. I assume there might be a short circuit although I cannot see anything obvious. Before I dump the phone... does maybe anyone have an idea what I might need to check/try/fix?
Any idea is welcome,
Kind regards, mistersixt.
