Having already used the O2 XDA, O2 XDAII and the O2 XDAIIs I have been spoilt by O2's ROM updates via their own website.
The problem I have is that by changing to Vodafone I now have no facilities via the Vodafone website to do the same. How do you update your ROM if you have a Vodafone V1640?
Would appreciate your comments

If you love O2, you can flash the O2 ROM onto your Vodafone Device without problems.
Just use the search button on how this is done.
Thank you. I am a little concerned that the O2 ROM will erase my Vodafone settings as well as conflict with Vodafone protocols. I understand that the ROMs will have the same Microsoft Mobile 5 updates but also embedded are the phone company's unique settings and addional programs.
Do you know whether Vodafone issue ROM updates and if so how do you obtain them?
Thank you for your help and assistance
Why do you want to change the rom, (is there problems with the vodafone Rom) and what other programs are on the Vodafone Rom that you would loose.
As for settings you can enter all settings anyway into any rom as far as I know.
There is nothing wrong with the current ROM. I just want to stay up to date. New ROMs normally (and I say this tongue in cheek) have improved facilities.
The O2 site does not allow my V1640 (or in the O2 case XDA Exec) to be updated by their ROM as the IMEI does not tally up as being an O2 valid product.
I guess it's back to the drawing board for my quest.
just add the number 3 right before the .html and even if u dont have a correct imei, you can access the site of O2
Thank you. I will give that a try.
Will it erase all my Vodafone settings?
All Hard Resets / Full ROM Upgrades erase everything. I believe some roms have CAB files with operator settings. Download the Imate ROM, Install, then look for the VODAFONE .CAB file in the extended ROM, copy it to PC, then Upgrade to O2 ROM then run the CAB file that you copied to the PC
Does anybody have any idea about new O2 ROM for Universal.
I got a call back from O2, the guy said it would be out next month, by hey this is O2 and he could be lying
Myself, i cant wait.......

Hi all
Is there anyway we can confirm that O2 will going to release the new ROM and upgrade for O2 exec ?
Ivan ROM is execellent however it is not stable yet and seems to me that his ROM has memory leak problem.
Also, I don't know if anyone notice that somebody reported their device has bootloader version 2.0. Is there anyway we can force O2 release this version as apart of the upgrade ROM ?
I maybe ask too much but it will be nice if those updates release.
I have flashed my Orange M700 with the official ROM with no problems, most of my software is working. However TOMTOM detects a new device ID everytime I hard reset the phone.
I have spoken to TOMTOM support who have confirmed that this is an issue with WM6 and at the moment do not offer any official support. They have also stated off the record that it is likly that TomTom 7 will not be released on the WM format partually due to this issue.
Use TomTom 6.0.3 - works for me?!
Which 'official' HTC WM6 ROM are you trying? The only one currently available is the Asian ROM, developed by Dopod which is not supported in the UK; I went from Orange ROM to HTC WM5 without any problem; it was only when I flashed another WM6 ROM (based on the Dopod Beta WM6 ROM) that I had problems. TomTom agreed to give me another activation code, but in the meantime I flashed the Mun-Rus WM6 ROM, and the device code reverted to the correct one.
The ROM 'chefs' suggested there was some faulty code in some of the ROM's- it affected the Hermes as well- which changed the device code, and it looks as if that may have carried over to the release ROMs
Once you have a new activation code, you should be OK, as the devcie code should stay the same till the next ROM flash!
Nealed: The Activation code is linked to the maps, not the application, so if you have one of these suspect ROMs, it shouldn;t matter which app version you have.
I have a UK MDA Compact IV running the official 1.37 rom, I have read through some of the threads posted here that some users were getting back their UK MDA Compact IV's from repair center with the new Tmobile 1.93 roms flashed on there. I was hoping there was a dump of this rom somewhere? Tmobiles UK site doesn't even have the phone listed in the support section! Any help would be appreciated.
it'd be nice to have this as well, as you said, t-mobile lack any kind of support or mentioning of the phone on the site
Strange, in the past 2 weeks ive bought 2 MDAC's (one for me and one for the missus) and both came with 1.37.
T-Mobile UK reply
Just read this thread and there answer that I received from T-Mobile UK about update

Yeah uk t-mobile is so behind the other countries t-mobile
My MDA went in for repair for camera fault and came back with 1.93 (and still had the camera fault) they have now given me a replacement phone with 1.37.
The short while I had 1.93 it seemed much quicker than this so would also be interested in the new one if any one has it?
Also spoke to T-mobile they replied with "Not aware of any update" most helpful.
My wifes T-MO compact IV went in for a screen repair, came back repaired looking brand new (same IMEI), but it had the 1.93 rom and 1.00.25.16 radio ROM on it. Yet my new handset came with 1.37 ROM and 1.00.25.03 radio ROM.
Tmobile official "German update" is avalaible throu download from t-mobile.de
think its the same for your MDA version its 1.97 already, also 1.93 is avail !
So try your t-mobile site -> Buisness center -> support / Downloads -> select you MDA Vendor select "t-Mobile". There you should get Official update, no need of an HardSPL and no warranty lost.
Also when i go to tmobile shop i can get them to update my device cost free here in germany, normaly takes them 3-4 hours then you can get ur device back
Is it possible to change the language of a stock ROM? i.e. Update to the latest German Compact IV ROM then change the language to English?

Nope I guess not. Besides that every language has it's own Manila-version so if you were able to change the system language there would still be the german manila.
i ve tried the german update and even though i have
no idea how to cook a rom and i can imagine that
this is really hard and time consuming work i really
think pupils on the lowest school grade could have
made it much better than tmobile. its that much laggu
that its realy not funny using this rom. but for
suppprt and warrenty i agree it might be usefull
having an original rom
Yeah, we just need one of the lucky few who actually get their phones back with the uk 1.93 rom to dump it for us.
I dont know why T-Mobile UK are dragging their heels. They hardly ever issue new ROMs. Vodafone UK have issued not one but two ROM updates for their Diamond.
After Sales Support at T-Mobile UK = "Get a new phone"
Even T-Mob.cz have a new ROM.
T-Mob UK want to force people to resort to illegal ROM updates.
If any T-Mob UK execs read this forum..... Please wake up and support the people who are bringing in your bread and butter

I just received an update for my Desire over the air. The new version number is 1.20.207.3. Does anybody know what is contained within, or where I can find details on it? HTC.com doesn't seem to have anything.
http://www.smartphonegurus.com/forums/index.php?/topic/10431-o2-go-live-with-htc-desire/
Something to do with this?
Seems to be, thanks for point that our to me ritdaw. Interestingly enough I am not an O2 customer, although this seems to be an unlocked O2 phone. I bought it direct from a shop without a contract, and originally though it was just an HTC Desire, not an O2 HTC Desire.
However, my provider is a mvno who piggy-backs on the O2 network. Maybe this explains how the phone was able to contact the O2 update server?
I bought a sim-free desire and put an o2 simplicity card in it. Not had any update though
edit. wrong thread sorry.

That's cause the update isn't for your unit - it's likely to be an o2 FW update
EDIT: also has the current radio as well...there is a 1.21 WWE ROM out now for generic handsets and is also the base for MoDaCo's ROMs (which I'm using)
