Hi, how can I change the IMEI of my pda2k? Do not worry, it is because the laws of my country. I bought my pda2k from USA and cannot use it in my country. I will change the IMEI with my old phone's IMEI. Thanks for help.
take your phone bill and show it to your service provider. thay can register your phone.
You have to show your bill to customs and take a paper from them when you enter Turkey. But I did not show my bill, because I did not know I had to. Now they don't give the paper I need to register my phone. So the only solution is to change my IMEI with a registered one (which also belongs to me). But I don't know how.
dont think and do as I tell you.. you can not change to that imei unless it is another HTC phone..

second hand can i get it to work?
if it is reported stolen or the previous owner didn't fulfill his contract with O2. Then O2 can block it.
I guess you have to go to an O2 store which can be dangerous with a stolen phone, or call an O2 store to ask if it is really IMEI blocked, and why. You can always say you want to check before buying it.
I believe there are some criminals who can change the IMEI number on a XDAII, but I don't know how reliable they are since it is an illegal activity.
sorry this is slightly off-topic, and apologies if this forum is unsuitable. it's about a samsung e700 phone i also own.
I bought it secondhand from someone on ebay (stupid me) about 6 months ago (before i got the xda) and it later stopped working, first on o2 then soon after on all UK networks.
I enquired at an o2 shop and they said it is black-listed and nothing can be done about it.
My questions are:
1. will the imei block be global, or just UK? if not then i give it to a friend in tanzania when i go there next week
2. Is there any way to overcome the IMEI block?
hope someone can advise me, before it goes in the can!
cheers
International Mobile Equipment Identifier
I'd say from the first word that yes, it's probably not going to work in Tanzania either.
Blocked IMEI number usually just means one thing - stolen phone. Noting can be done about it either.
The identification is international, but blocking is operator dependant. except that often all the operators of the same country share their database of stolen devices. I guess that this database is not worldwide shared. So could de probably used in other country.

As far as i know the IMEI is only blocked in the UK (dont quote me on it though )

On some phones you can change the IMEI number that is blocked on that phone, but bear in mind it is illegal in this country so not advisable.
I would take it to Tanzania and check if it will work ... if not then bad luck but if it does then your mates got a new phone
It will work outside of UK
Thanks to everyone for the advice, I will take it to Tanzania and see if it works. My friend will be very happy if it does, otherwise I'm sure he could find a shop with equipment to change the IMEI number - probably don't have laws abou it there!
cheers,
Paul
Good news! I am now in tanzania and the phone works fine on the network that my friend uses. He is very pleased with his "new" phone.
Nice, hot and sunny here, but no XDA to play with. Just my baby, friends and nice empty beaches and warm water to swim in. Oh how much I miss the UK
no one have any idea how to spoof or change the IMEI?

Er....why?
Yes actually I do. Quite simply a physical way, which is not illegal in some areas and also you can do it by imei manipulation, but that requires playing with other peopels systems.
will defonatly work abroad.
the phone will only be blocked to UK networks
so should work abroad
Hello,
I believe I have unlocked my phone but it not letting me make calls....
xda2s
ROM 1.40.00 WWE
ROM Date 03/10/05
Radio 1.12.00
Protocol 1337.42
Extrarom Ver 1.40.237
Was on the o2 network, have run the unlock which said it work.
The log file returned lots of answers as 0 or 00000000
Is the a program I can run which will confirm whether it is unlocked or not.
I have tried both my tmobile pay as you go and vodaphone pay monthly sim but not able to make calls.
I am able to pick up all betwork signals which are all of good strength.
I am not being allowed to select pay as you go in the start up section when selecting country. It does if I chose Germany.
Any help appreciated, thanks

Can someone please just tell me if I look like a complete novice ??
And that is why I have had no replies in 2 days regarding this....
Or is it because nobody knows the answer?
Thanks
Service Lock?
I am gettings signals from networks and my phone is seeing my sim.
As soon as I press talk the call ends.....
Am I locked to a network provider....?
And I have still not resolved the issue of whether the phone is actually unlocked.
I am not sure as it will not let me select payasgo on the set up?
This is my last post before I give up and give my hard earned cash to 02 instead of you guys....
Cheers[/b]
Re: Service Lock?
Sounds barred to me. If locked it would spit the sim back at you asking for the unlock code to be entered.
Richard
Hello !!!
Thanks for the response, but a bit concerning,,,, of course
Is there a way in which I can tell if a phone has been blocked?
02 will not give any details unless I have an account, for some reason.
You would think they could tell you so you could hand the phone back and return it to the original owner? etc etc
I need to know if it is blocked as I will not be able to use it. I can send it back to the person I bought it from... or at least have proof...
Thanks
Does it ring on incoming calls?
Calls
It will not allow any outgoing calls.
I just called it when it was switched off and it went to my voice mail.
Switched on it said " calls are currently not being connected to this phone"?
he phone is picking up all my virgin mobile settings and my number, plus it has virgin extras in the menus!!
Everything seems there.
I called 02 and they suggested going to their local shop and use an 02 sim card to see if that worked.
He said they can do an imie (whatever) check but it would take best part of 14 working days.
Surely there must be somewhere you can just type the number to see if a phone is stolen.
Or do all the service providers assume that after the 12 months are up in peoples contracts that they are goign to throw the phone away and not sell it
From what you've described, your phone has been reported lost or stolen, and has been blocked. I had the same problem with a Treo 600 bought from ebay. I phoned Orange, who looked up the imei on the spot, and told me it had been reported stolen.
I'd get onto the seller straight away, tell him it's barred, and ask for your money back.
IT IS NOT STOLEN
OK,
3rd time lucky, I always say if you ask 3 times the chances are you will find someone willing.,...
On my 3rd call to 02 the guy checked the imei number for me and the phone is not stolen or lost or had insurance against it. etc
So, square one again.
I do not understand how the phone detects my virgin sim with my numbers etc etc, it is picking up all networks, but just not letting me make calls..or receive them.
Could someone please confirm the settings I should use for a pay as you go...
Is it PAP or CHAP?
and class 8 or 10?
At least if I walk into an 02 store the SAS will not swoop in to arrest me!!
Thanks
Grrrrrrrrrrrrr
Have used various imei checkers which all say OK.
O2 will not help unless I have the original owner details.
I managed to get the name and phone number of the original owner who really sounds legit.... and I am a good judge of character.
One lady at 02 confirmed that that imei number was for his number but her system would not tell her why it was barred.
The orignal owner says it should be fine so I asked him to call 02.
I spoke to another lady at 02 who wants all his details before she will even press a button. (Obviously he is a bit reluctant to give me his home address and phone number etc... she even asked for his password, I said who in their right mind would )
Another person at 02 confirmed it is not lost or stolen. (This is the basis of buying the phone as I checked this before I purchased it.)
02 will not tell me why it is barred.....
I can only assume that it is because of an unpaid bill.....however, the original owner still has an account with 02 which is still up and running which I called him on,,,, which the first lady confirmed that the imei number was connected to that number...and they confirmed that the phone has not been used since june last year. It has only been used for Sat Nav since.
Any ideas.....
And they wonder why people look into having the imei number changed!!
Thanks
hi guys.
I just bought another TP2 from Ebay to replace my one which is broken. I've put my simcard but it doesnt register on my network. I've tried my sim card in another phone and it works fine, and I'm able to connect to wi-fi on the new TP2, but not to my network....so I've come to the conclusion that it must have a locked imei number.
I conacted ebay and the seller to ask whether it was a stolen phone, but to no avail. the seller has de-listed and ebay arent interested as the phone is in "working order", even though I cant connect to a network!!!
is there anyway to change the number, or unlock it, so I can use it? Otherwise it's a pretty expensive paper weight! My fault for not checking these facts before buying, but you live and learn....anyone help?
Cheers
Don't expect advice on changing the IMEI here.
As for unlocking, take a look here: http://rhodium.htc-unlocks.com/ (as far as I know, there is no free solution).
report the transation to paypal. You'll get your money back. Especially if the phone was potentially stolen.

Maybe there are some methods how to change IMEI simple with some tools, but as I remember in my location people carried it to service to unlock. Also as I remember some services (maybe just in my location) easily unlocked phones which was bought in foreign country. So you can try to check in Google can you do it without services help, if will not help, try to bring it to services which doing that. But first at all did u try to talk with seller first? Good luck.
P.S. In my location to block IMEI is normal thing for reason to safe smartphone which can be stolen, if police getting any report from owner which can proof that smartphone is his/her. So some services for this reason don't unlocking smartphone (most authorized, which have license to work with smartphone). So if you will have disagree from yours services too ( I don't know rules in Pakistan about this) keep in mind. Also will be good if you will contact to seller, maybe phone is tethered to the operator from country in which u bought it and working only in this country. So u have to ask how to unlock it from this operator too. My opinion u have to talk first at all to seller/operator (maybe seller can do that), included personal efforts to find information and just later to bring it to service to unlock.
Blocking of imei is to decrease smuggling here in Pakistan if you want to unblocked you have to pay the tax for it
