Operating system maker Microsoft is currently working hard on delivering the next version of Windows Embedded CE in November and on tapping the lucrative market for service-enabled devices. Kevin Dallas, general manager of Microsoft's Windows Embedded Business group, said the company plans to launch Windows Embedded CE 6.0 R2 on Nov. 15 at the Embedded Technology 2007 show in Yokohama, Japan, known as one of the "world's largest trade show and conference for embedded system designers and managers."
The new operating system will be the foundation for service-oriented devices, Dallas told eWEEK in an interview. Windows Embedded CE 6.0 will feature support for Web services on devices, VOIP (voice-over-IP) video technology capabilities and Internet Explorer updates. "We're clear on the opportunity moving forward and we're going to deliver an operating system to go into an intelligent device," Dallas said.

Any chance we can get this to work on Trinity? I have been told that upgrading to 6 at the moment is pointless as it is very slow, whilst this release fixes that and is the same speed as WM5.

I haven't noticed much change in speed although it uses more program memory.
It is much slower than WM5.

You are the first one to hear something like that...
Are you serius???
When you are in a clean install try to open the windows folder (with hidden file's enable) in wm5 and try it in wm6 to understund and see what you say.
After that post the result's...
He he
I don't think wm6 is slower than wm5 at least not the versions I have been trying out over the months, plus the icons on wm6 are kind of different and smoother so this could cause the system to lose some speed.
As for the battery, both last the same to me,these are just my personal experiences.
If you ask me wm6 is faster I can notice just by opening the file explorer.

What?!?!?!?...I don't think so...In my opinion, WM6 is way faster...
This is something that has been so debated...
I believe this is talking about real WM6. What we consider WM6 is just a nicer looking WM5 with a few changes. I believe WM 5.2.2 is what WM6 is for us, and the WM6 they're talking about is the real deal.
WM6 is quite faster than WM5
The best way to emphasize the performance difference between WM5 and WM6 is effectively to browse files in the system library.
Difference is huge...
What your talking about there is accessing lists of files, what we are talking about is opening times of applications etc. as in performance benchmarks. WM5 on Trinity is much faster than WM6 in its current form. Hense the reason for the new update from MS.
Windows Embedded CE has nothing to do with Windows Mobile.
Beg to differ as this is will be for both for devices and for mobiles

Microsoft reportedly has been talking more than usual about the future of embedded Windows OSes. Recent revelations range from the short-term -- the release of "Windows CE 6.0 R2" next month -- to a long-term vision of "MinWin," the stripped-down kernel that will be at the heart of "Windows 7."
Windows CE 6.0 R2, XP Embedded SP3, Vista Embedded
Regarding Windows CE 6.0 R2, Kevin Dallas, general manager of Microsoft's Windows Embedded business group, used an interview with our sister publication, eWEEK.com, to reiterate plans first revealed in his keynote at September's Embedded Systems Conference (ESC) in Boston. The new version of Windows CE will feature new support for Web services on devices, new VoIP (voice-over-IP) video technology capabilities, and Internet Explorer updates, he said.......................

so is an update, not an upgrade.
It's always been an update. remember all the AKUs?
The major was:
2002 -> 2003 -?> 2003SE -> WM5 -> WM6
They're behind schedule in releasing and the OEMs have not maximized yet the profit of WM6 devices. The transition from WM5 to WM6 is not yet over. Apps need some catching up to adopt the new platform.

I have Office Mobile 6.1 on my device and I want to update it.
I think Office 2010 is the latest version.
---Where can I download a cab file for do this?
---I'm also cooking a Rom, if I take an updated version from latest WinMo Builds, how can I insert it in my Rom?
I have read that the latest Office version don't work or don't work completely on WinMo 6 and 6.1 ... but versions a bit older work perfectly.
Thanks
For now I have only Word, Excel, PowerPoint and One Note.
But if I Office is updated, I can modify PowerPoint files and it will be other programs (I don't remember their names)

The latest version, Microsoft Office Mobile 2013, was released on October 29, 2012, with the launch of Windows Phone 8.
Concerning Office Mobile 2010:
As a quick Google-search showed me, you can directly download Office Mobile 2010 for Windows Mobile 6.5 from Microsoft: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=29981
---Thanks, I only have to understand how to download Office 2010 in my language and not in english...
But how I said, Office 2010 doesn't work completely on WM 6.1... in fact in the "List of Supported O.S.s" is written "W.M. 6.5"
---I think Office 2013 will not work on WM, because is from WP...
...but I can try both the 2010 and the 2013...
2007 *update is for 6.1
2010 is for 6.5.
2013 is for WM 8.
You can NOT put 2013 on wm6.5.
You MAYBE can squeeze 2010 on 6.1, if you add patches to it. ( like .net3.5 CF etc.) but I dont know what patches.
But, why don't you just upgrade 6.1 to 6.5 first? Most device makers provide the wm6.5 patch for free, and it's very easy to download and install.
For Office Mobile, goto
microsoft.com and click the Downloads link.
On the left side, for categories, click More, and then Mobile .
Search for Office Mobile
Office 2010 Mobile may be first link. Click through to download page.
It SAYS "english" but click the download button anyway.
*A new page will open, and allow you to select any language they offer.
Seeing that it's possible to update Office... why don't update also other softwares?
