A couple of months back, I decided I wanted a 2 GB miniSD card, and ended up placing an order with MobyMemory because the folks at MoDaCo seemed to insist they were great to order from. If only I'd known then what I know now....
If they decide not to delete the thread I've been having on their forums, you should be able to read it here, but it wouldn't surprise me at all if they do delete it. If they do delete it, I've copied chunks of the exchange over on MoDaCo here.
So, buyer beware, if you ever decide to order from MobyMemory. They seem to have built up a pretty good reputation on MoDaCo, but I can't say I agree that they deserve it.

There's alot of units out for the touch, not like its anything rare..
But only 2 pages for the upgrading thread??
I just ordered a Touch for Sprint cause I get 3000 MIN. Nights/Weekends. Unlimited Txt/Pic Msg/Data. for $20 a month. So i'm breaking my Tmobile contract..
I like to try out new roms, but there really isn't much.
Will any cooking be happing in the Vogue forums? Hope so..
This was posted on PPCGeeks and my reply to this guy's post is below. I'm not saying your situation is just like this guy, but in order for this to flourish, we all have to work together to build ROMs. I am still very new to it, but once you starting playing around with building them, it begins to get easier. There are a few roms on PPCGeeks and I have a Alpha ROM on there FTP just to show I'm not just pulling your leg

Between ppcgeeks and XDA forums theres probably about 3 decent (mind you) roms. Its has nothing to do with "hunting" because its a completely different ballgame when you have the CMDA "Vogue" from Sprint.

I'm not trying to sound like an ass over this, but if you are "so disappointed" in Vogue ROMs... you might want to step up to the plate and do something about it. I know that is what I am trying to do by learning how to build a ROM. There is a lot of whining and b00n-ness in the Vogue forum, I think it has to do to the fact that this phone is *still* rather new to this community.
As far as the kitchens are concerned, (more or less) they are the same approach. It just bottom lines to the fact that there is a time requirement to build one and the necessity to actually sit down and learn something rather than pointing and clicking. I feel that there is an art to this since we don't have a GUI-based kitchen for the Titan or the Vogue. Because of this, I think more thanks needs to go to the people leading this battle (Cokeman, DogGuy, etc).
Again, I don't mean to incite anything, but complaining doesn't help the community in any way. I guess I have read too much of it lol. I apologize in advance if anyone gets upset over this *end rant*
In case you haven't seen it yet, a few Windows Mobile 6.1 ROMs have recently been uploaded.
You also might want to check out PPCGeeks.com Vogue Forum as there is a lot more activity there than here.
To be honest, I agree with Mr.Geoff...
I'd love to get down and dirty with ROM cooking, hell I might become the next Helmi.
Anyways, I can't start doing anything as I don't know where to start. If you can point me in the right direction, I should be able to take it from there.
I would like to learn how to do this myself, but, I've found it hard to get information to get started. I know this place is full of info, but when I search I can't seem to figure out were to even start. One thing I'd like to know before I do anything is how to make a backup of my current ROM and Radio and anything else that I might want to put back after a change. Do you have any good links or info to start by backing up my current device?

I have had to wander a lot on XDA and PPCGeeks to find the information I needed. There has/is a lot of info in the Hermes, Trinity, and Kaiser sections.
Attached is a Word document that does a pretty good job of giving you an idea of adding stuff to your custom ROM. I would give credit to the person that made it, but I don't remember who that is.
The software for creating an oem package that was mentioned in the document is not free, but there is also something else out there that does an acceptable job (and I use it). Again, I would give credit where it's due, but I don't remember where it came from (I think I found it on this site).
This should give you guys a decent understanding on what needs to be done. The temporary kitchen is on PPCGeeks. If you guys aren't a member there, I suggest you become one It will be well worth your time.

Radioshack employee huh? I'm on the same exact plan and only because I work at Radioshack. You going to get the network card and the unlimited interent for just $30 a month too? That's what I'm using. Rev A really is quite a bit faster than Rev 0.

Since this is an older phone I'm thinking of trying to come up with a free Hard SPL and an unlocker for this phone. I know there is a HardSPL made by olinex group, but it only allows one free hardspl (I have 5 lines on my plan and thinking of getting TP2s for all of them) and theya re charging for the unlocking. I would like to check if there is still an interest in such a free tool. I don't want to spend a lot of time on something that I would only benefit from very few times and no one else would be interested in using.
Perhaps bug Olipro, see if he'd be willing to do that...? I can't imagine they're making too much money off the project anymore...

Yes, definitely.
Yeah please do it!! Im new to all this but I know I really need the HardSPL flash software.
It doesn't look like this phone is as popular any more. Only two people interested in this. So I'm definitely not going to dedicate a lot of time to this. So I might work on it when I have time to kill but will not give it high priority. I'll keep monitoring the thread to see if this changes.

It would be nice, i have just setup 10 devices without HSPL using stock Roms, but i would love to be able to freely HSPL phones we are looking at setting up about another 15 at this stage, we can get a lot of these phones for $190NZ.
If i was able to HSPL them we might get another 50+
It is true that these phones are getting older now, but in saying that they are a good quality phone that preforms as expected no matter what i throw at it.
Well, count me as third one And nand is coming for the tp2, so interest will grow.

Yes, but that thread says [testing]. Thats ok, because for me [stable] is less interesting. But my wife definitely wants [stable] and doesn't want to make an exception to that general rule when it comes to her phone

One more person wants it!
After unlocking my first one, I really wanted to use it on the second one I found at a great price.
I have a great deal of respect for the folks (guy/gal) that originally cracked the boot loader, but it has been over a month since I requested to use it on a second device, and despite polite correspondence, my "ticket" is still "open".
I can understand them being busy with newer devices, but I think it is kind of sad that they have the code, and will not even respond to requests for it.
A simple "we no longer support this device" would have been appreciated, as apposed to leaving people hanging for a ticket that will never be addressed.
Even kinder, if they are not gaining revenue from it, maybe set it free!

thanks
cajun
I've just used your keyboard fix after installing kwbr's Tilt 2 rom. Thank you very much, worked beautifully. I'd thank everyone on that thread except I'm not allowed.
Took me ages to get ActiveSync to work in XP, had to install a CAB supplied on the hard spl thread to get it to work. Thanks for your efforts.
I'd like to unlock mine just for the sake of it, plan on keeping it with sprint but who knows in future? which is why I'd unlock mine lol, but since I have no real need presently I'm not tempted enough to pay for it, since the cost of the unlock is more than what phone is now worth :S
Got an ebay replacement for my TP2 and got the "commercial" error message from the Rhodium HardSPL file. Not looking to jip anyone, just want to get my replacement back to the way my old phone was. PM'd Olipro, but I know they are busy (no response yet to ticket).
So if this thread leads to another way to HSPL these things then that would make my phone very happy.
Cajunflavoredbob, could you PM me too?
Thanks.
Count me in. I still use mine as primary phone, but will upgrade soon and nice to have unlocked. Also interested on the behind the scenes as to how it all worked, read the other thread in ppc a few minutes ago and wondered if there were any interest in this. Also wonder if anyone has the stuff from the other groups I could look at, even if it would not work for me.
Yeah I bought off eBay a bad ESN Verizon one for 40$ thinking it would have worked perfectly with GSM networks here in Italy to then find out that I would have had to pay another 20$ to Olinex just to unlock it. I owned one and paid that fee in 2009 (and that's why I bought one again... I loved it so much...) and he didn't ever answer my ticket where I was asking for this favor seeing I already donated and it would be dumb anyway to pay 20$ to unlock a 40$ worth phone...
Go here.
No PMs, please.
Ok, so I was one of the lucky few with a gen2 device that was not getting the ICS update. I tried to scan for the update probably 50 times yesterday with no luck. After seeing that others where having the same problem I got frustrated, I flashed the update Zeronull posted in the developers forums. Worked great.
My question is now what exactly is to be gained from the whole process of rooting/unlocking/loading CM9, and some custom roms. I am not new to hacking hardware/software, but I am fairly new to android so I don't really understand what I am gaining from the gamble.
My tab is mainly a family device so there is some added risk with my 4 year old, and wife having root access to my tab. Not sure that is a great idea or not. So once I decide if I want/need CM9 how secure is it from the rest of the family bricking it after the fact?
The only thing in the developers side that really catches my eye is cossix swap mod. I am surprised no one has rolled that into a rom yet. Anyways, if that is all I am really looking to gain is the CM9 path worth it for me?
Basically after re-reading this I am just fairly clueless about CM9. Can anyone with some experience clue a brother in? What is it exactly that I am missing?
Thanks,
I hate to bump my on post, but I was hoping to get a few opinions on this before I let it die.
*** RANT ***
I bought my GNex on launch day
I tried every ROM (I could find) released in 2012
I spend dozens upon dozen of hours on the forums (probably nearing 100 hours in 2012...mostly lurking)
I started/managed the "case thread" listing all the different cases for the phone before it became overwhelming (I'd get PMs to link youtube channels or someone upset that I didn't include a $5 ebay case on it that's exactly like every other rubber case)
I eventually got burned out on all this and moved on.
I started a family.
I went back to my other hobbies
I still come back to the forums to see what's new and try a new ROM a few times a year (3-5 times)
I come back and all I see is new/casual members get flamed.
I come back and see people *****ing about the "best ROM" threads but not offering a solution
I don't come back for the elitist attitude of the community.
I come to get my ROM fix and get back to life in under 60 minutes.
Sorry if it's too much to ask but people like myself just want a recommendation without the attitude. I just want something stable and feature rich. My time is now so limited that the fun of trying out new ROMs isn't there anymore. If wanted to try out all the ROMs I wouldn't be here asking about it.
*** /RANT ***
Ok, now that I got that off my chest...why don't we have a thread for this? Too many casual and new members come looking for this advice and just get flamed. They come asking for advice because they don't want to spend all day trying out ROMs. The answer "try them all" is just ridiculous and discouraging.
I'm not going to come in and flame you. I'm going to actually try to answer this. The reason that people get flamed for asking "whats the best ROM" is because they usually ask for specific reasons that usually dont have a specific answer.
For example, "what is the best ROM for battery?" Answer: Every ROM is pretty much the same with battery. The phone is built how it is and no one ROM is going to give you battery that lasts hours longer. On top of that, its all in how you use it. We could run the same thing and one of us would have a phone with more battery at the end of the day.
Another is, "What is the most stable ROM?" Answer: With our phone, all ROMs are at about the same stage in stability. Unlike other phones that have to find workarounds to unlock the bootloaders and get drivers working correctly, our phone is completely open and have all the resources available which makes building ROMs easier and also makes them more stable.
Those are pretty much the two big things people ask. But the answers are so mixed that no one will ever get one single answer. We all like different ROMs so we will all tell someone that that ROM is the best. Its a pointless question when its all here in the forums. If people dont have time to look and do some research and flash ROMs, then maybe they should stay on stock.
As far as one single thread for best ROM questions, I'm not against that. As long as people who come in here actually look through the threads and see that there is one.
I absolutely love it and refuse to let go of this thing until I find a newer Android with a REAL keyboard, especially if it's another Canadian phone that my carrier has never had before.
Unfortunately, my manager wants me to have access to my emails from my personal phone (doesn't want to pay for a corporate iPhone for me -- not like I even want one anyway) and I can't get my corporate email on my DZ because it's only running Android 4.0 right now and I'd need at least 4.3 for it to run Good for Enterprise, so that I can get corporate email. I've done searches here and on the internet for a custom ROM with that version, but I can't seem to find one (it's driving me mad and I'm spending WAY too much time on this).
Anyone know where they can point me to one? I don't need a whole bunch of bells & whistles.
Many thanks!
Debbie
You'll find just about every ROM for this device in this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2348266
Best of luck!
demkantor, that thread is absolutely fantastic. Many thanks for that! I'm sure that I'll be going back to that for as long as I can hold onto my Vision.
I've known this forum to be indispensable for many, many years now (since my Kaiser), but it can be quite difficult to find what you're looking for due to the wealth of information, most of which you didn't even know that you needed until you happen to stumble upon it. Searching for topics can be a daunting task as well due to the many acronyms & abbreviations that people tend to use and that thread looks like most of what I need, all wrapped up in a pretty package with a big bow.... THANK YOU AGAIN!
EDIT: It seems that there aren't any Sense Roms with Jelly Bean & Kit Kat. Is that true? I've really liked Sense and the simplicity of syncing my data with my computer using HTC Sync. Is there another brand of software that will sync as easily & completely?
Thanks,
Debbie
