ROM Update from storage card - JASJAR, XDA Exec, MDA Pro Software Upgrading

It has been a while since my Q9000 would ActiveSync to my desktop. It worked at first, stopped and no amount of effort would get if going again.
Although it is not stated explicitly in the splendid advice about updating the ROM, it all implies it is done through the USB cable and ActiveSync. In my circumstance this is impossible.
Would it be possible to put the update on my storage card and run it from there? Anyone had experience with doing so?

flashing hermes on vista | wceusbsh.inf driver for wmdc not working

Hi everybody,
was just trying to flash my Hermes.
I was following this guide, and trying to install the supplied drivers for vista_x32.
For some strange reason, vista claims, that this driver is not a proper vista driver, and cancels the install process.
Does anybody know what might be the reason for this? Maybe I need a newer driver?
Is there any other way around? And no, I won't install xp just for updating my Hermes.
Thanks a lot for your help in advance.

Why don't flash from an SD card (link in signature)? After tweaking drivers with no success to run on Vista x64, I just always recomment it.
thx for your reply, but that won't work, since I installed loads of progs on the sd-card, so it won't let me delete the cards content. And I don't have any external card reader.
So I guess, I will need to solve this driver issue somehow.
Maybe somebody can tell me if it worked on their Vista Machine using Mr Vanx guide.
it used to work although it s way easier for me to move to the next comp in the room (which is running xp) and flash the rom from it
bother some friends to let you use his comp since the whole thing wont take longer than 20 mins
So what about the programs on SD card?
Move them off to your computer first, move ROM image to SD card, flash, move programs back.
tried doing that. after emtying my sd-card, and moving pays rom over to the card.
The pays rom was named RUU_signed.nbh, so I renamed it to HERMIMG.nbh
i rebooted to the bootloader, as described in the tutorial. Nothing happened though.
No clue why it did not work.
Quite annoying.
regards, t.
Did you format the card to FAT32?

[Q] phone does not connect to PC via USB

[SOLVED] : using dropbox now for file transfer...
After I installed the latest build of stock XDAndriod on my Rhodium, it does not connect to my PC (win-XP) using USB port. I have tried multiple times to reset my phone and re-flash my winmo with no help.
My computer does not detect a USB device at all when I connect my phone when in Android. When I plug in my phone, nothing happens. But my phone does begin charging from the USB port and does detect that is plugged in to a power source.
How do I get my PC to recognize my phone?
Phone details:
H/w : standard AT&T tilt2
Winmo : JackOS build Aug/19
XDAndroid version - [MJG]Rhod.2.2Froyo.083010.rar
Thanks,
Dhanvi
PS: I did check the thread here - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=641444&highlight=USB+problems and that hasn't solved my problem.
If you read the port status, USB data connections are not currently supported. Only charging is supported via USB.
Thanks for that pience of info, but I do not see anything saying USB on the project development page. Is there some other page that I should be looking at too?
If that is indeed the case, then how do I transfer stuff over from my PC to my SD card when in andriod ? Is there any other method?
Thanks.

Great Idea but waiting for more help
Hey Fist post here about the xAndroid. I have to say this rocks!! First time I got it up I said to myself this is how a phone is supposed to run.
To the questions do any of you know if this USB connection is going to be fixed anytime soon sine I would really like to see if you can connect Google App Inventor to the phone while on this great mod.
Thanks

By far the simplest way to get it done.
I went for installing ADB and droid explorer on my pc. It works, but I have much less hair now.
with the current way xdandroid is built, I can't see it being probable that usb mode will ever work (could be wrong, so feel free to correct me).
i.e. currently we have a FAT partition on the SD card and we loopback mount files on it to act as the android system and data file systems, and the fat can then act as a normal SD card.
because of this, it can't expose the FAT partition to anyone outside of the OS instance (i.e. 2 OS's will be writing to the FAT table (redundant I know) independently and can clobber each other.
On the other hand, I think the way the cyanogenmod port works, by partitioning the SD card into multiple partitions to hold the different sets of data (though not sure it takes it all the way), is an approach that could be made to work for usb access, if separate partitions would be made for the system and data file systems on the SD card and a third partition just used for the FAT FS. This way, android can unmount the FAT partition only (nothing else depending on it) and let it be accessed by whatever machine the device is attached to over usb.
there's a reason its not done this way currently as its much harder to manage and continuously update.
just my 2 cents.
Hm, does this also mean, you can not use tools like MyPhoneExplorer (Outlloksync via UBS with Android phones) due to absence of data over USB? Seems like a decent app, but it does not see my TYTN over USB, says no conenction. I also note, Windows XP is trying to install an 'Android Phone' driver when I connect the TYTN to the Laptop. Is this all somehow related?
Oddly, my phone decides to turn on USB after it's been sitting plugged in for a time, which exceeds an hour. It's like it checks for USB connectivity at some long interval.

With Android on my wife's HD2 (booting from Windows via Haret.exe) USB mass storage mode works fine, so it's definitely doable.

No clue how - when you're in WinMo, what happens when you plug in your phone and select to use it as a disk drive? It unmounts the SD in WinMo and mounts it on your PC. Same thing would happen in Android, but when the card can't be unmounted - as Android is running off of it.

Well I have no idea how it works. I just know that it works.

I've been told it's flaky on the HD2 and not recommended for use anyways. Still not sure how it works tho.
We won't have true SD card access (USB mass storage) until Android is flashed onto our devices. Until then, true USB mass storage will NOT work.
In the meantime, there's ADB. Perhaps the HD2 guys hacked something up based on ADB, who knows.

Adb Help

Is there anyone willing to help me with adb?
I just had to buy a new Dinc because I screwed the other one up so bad and I did not have any kind of backup on my computer! I did not know how to do anything whatsoever with the advanced with my last phone, even though I rooted it and get around a little bit and change ROM's and Kernals almost daily.
So, my question is: Is there anyone willing to help me go through and do everything with the adb step-by-step?
Also will someone help me to do whatever I have to do to setup a backup on my computer so that I won't have to go through losing everything and having to buy another phone?
Thank you very much!!

What are you asking to do? What can't you do with adb? Your post is a bit confusing
Trying to help in your last thread (here), I have some questions:
What is your computer knowledge level here?
You can make a backup of the SD card by hooking it up to a computer, setting the phone from Charging to Disk Drive (unless you've defaulted it for Disk Drive mode when plugged into a computer), and dragging all the contents of the SD card to a folder on your computer. I suppose this could be done with internal storage too if you wanted...
In order to use ADB, you need to install Android SDK. ADB is a command you run from the command prompt. You'd use it to push, pull, and manually remove items from the system. I don't think you need ADB at this time. It doesn't do backups.
I know what you're thinking, "god this guy's being a ****". But if you're asking for help with something, especially something like using SDK, rooting phones, and flashing ROMS, there needs to be some idea of your level of experience/expertise with computers. I don't think your other phone was lost from the way it sounds. You could have spent less than $10 on a USB to SD card adapter, hooked it up to your computer, formatted the card as FAT32, downloaded a ROM, put the ROM on the SD card, put the SD card in your phone, then booted into recovery, and flashed the ROM.
Don't flash ROM's and kernels daily, stick with something for a bit until you understand what you are doing, and how things work. I don't think you can get a sense of how something is going to work if you're constantly flashing things. You need to give time so that the system can "settle". As far as the backups go, you are the backup for your SD card contents, so you have to back up everything to your PC once a week, once every two weeks, or a time that you feel is right.

Bad internal memory on OP3?

I've got an OP3 that had MM in it (RROS). I started to have issues with the internal memory telling me whenever I tried to copy something from the internal memory or copy something into the internal memory, telling me that the device connection was lost and it was unable to proceed the copying process. I then managed to extract everything that matters to me from the phone with a simple WiFi FTP app. After that, I thought that I'd simply factory reset the phone and restore it back. After factory reset, I got the 6.0 back up and running, but as I tried to move things back to the internal memory with the stock OP3 USB cable (Win 7), the same issue did arise; while copying larger files to internal memory the connection is lost.
After that I thought that maybe wiping the whole data incl. system would do the trick. That was a bad idea, as now I have only my recovery and although the internal memory mounts when I boot up the recovery, I still can't copy larger files to it, say a new ROM for example. Therefore I currently have a paperweight in my hands and no phone. Any hints on how to solve this issue?
Are there any reports regarding bad internal memories on these phones?

Try a different USB driver. My phone had that exact issue but windows 10 auto updated the driver to smt else and my phone has worked ever since. Also your USB-C port might be dirty. I was having connection problems and sometimes when I moved my phone, I'd loose connection so I cleaned the hell out of my port and i stopped having those issues
Oh this problem sounds really familiar but not with my phone. I have never faced it on Windows 10 but I had back in the days of Win 7. Would you mind trying ADB instead of FTP? "adb push filename directory" to 'push' a file "adb pull filename directory" to pull a file from your phone. You can watch a tutorial if you want.
Thanks for the both of you for contributing to my issue. I managed to move a new Custom ROM into the internal memory with a simple USB OTG tool and a 16 GB USB memory stick. Now I've got a 7.1.1 but I might go back to 6.0 today, as I don't like the behaviour of the 7.1.1 at all.
But back to the main issue. I tested the phone in another laptop, and it worked just fine there. I then tested the phone in my laptop, in another USB port... Well what do you know, it works again just fine, so the problem seems to be in the other USB port... :silly: One should test the simplest solutions first before posting.
change the file extension to like .jpg then change it back to what it was once you have moved the file
