which SD out of these 2???? - JASJAR, XDA Exec, MDA Pro Accessories

transcend 150X Read: 20MB/sec, Write 17MB/sec.
OR Kingston 50x: 8.2MB/sec read rate - 7.7MB/sec
ooooooooorr Secure Digital? 7.0MB/s (read), 2.0MB/s (write)
last one i bought was a 2GB sandisk item which did not seem to work properly and i have been refunded for it...

the transcend and the kingston work out at roughly 65 pound with delivery and the third one (Secure Digital) is about 55...

went for the transcend one in the end as it seems to be the fastest and they did next day delivery and i couldnt wait as im going away for a month working and need some mp3's!!!
did i choose the right one though

been usin the card for a month now and it works a treat, cant tell any speed difference from my 512 card, got loads of albums/films on there all working fine and the camera works fine also

I went for "topram 150x" i saw it on eBay....
The card seems to work fine, but it's a bit fiddly to pull out. It's as if the indent, where you lock your nail in, and pull is a bit to small...
Do any of you guys, have the same problem?

I too have bought a Sandisk MicroSD SDHC 8GB card which finally arrived from eBay seller nextdaymemory today. I installed the SDHC patch recommended by StefChri in this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=1720617#post1720617
Works perfectly!
Where did you get it?
Hi Snake28,
where did you get the card?
Valen
Works with Artemis Touch 3.01, 5.2.1921 SDHC
It works with the mentioned rom. Although I had some problems with recognizing in the beginning, I flashed the rom again and I worked immediately.
Brought it from memoryshop.nl (Dutch)
http://www.memoryshop.nl/geheugen/425/microsd-(secure-digital).html (Now, the card is temporarily out-of-stock)
My costs were: €86,00 all-incl. (send within the Netherlands)
Brought it the 6th of [email protected], got it the next [email protected]

I also bought 8GB SDCH for my artemis running wwe 3.1 including bepes sdhc hack. anyhow its quite slow, sdtools showed me like 300 kb writing and 700 kb reading spead. Sandisk tells class 4 cards run about 4-5 mb read/write.
Anyone any idea, what could be my problem? I wondered wheather the card is fat 32 formatted, how do I find out?
I have the same problem. Writing to the MicroSD via the O2 XDA Orbit (Artemis) is very slow. I have tried putting the card in the small Sandisk adapter which the card came with and it is also slow. BUT when I use a different MicroSD card reader/writer (USB2.0) it works much faster (140 MB file writes and reads in 10-12 seconds). The reader is one of these:
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/TRANSFLASH-MI...ryZ51082QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
So it seems to be a hardware problem.
4GB kinsgton work flawlessly also.
One other thought ... have you got the "encryption" enabled for data transferred to storage cards? I think this slows the data transfer even more through the Artemis. It is still slow though, as the data connection between my Artemis and my computer is still only a maximum of 10 Mbit/s (i.e. c. 1.25 Mbyte/sec max).
In my post at:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=350383
you`ll find a Benchmark I did with an "old" 2GB MicroSD and an 8GB Micro SDHC Card.
Surprisingly the Performance of the 8GB Card was much better then I expected with the SDHC-Drivers provided by this Community.
When I reformated the 2GB Card to FAT32 to work with the new SDHC Drivers Speed went down significantly. But the provided .pdf File shows all this Data quite well....

Can anyone explain the different classes of card available (class, class6). Is there a particular one needed for the orbit/artemis.
Also - I note that you can get 16gb cards. Anyone tried one yet??
My Orbit worked first time with an 8GB Scandisk bought via EBay.
Down loaded and ran this .cab file as suggested earlier:
http://members.cable24.at/immogroup/...HC-Artemis.cab
Running WM6. No need to re-format.
The complete link is:

12 GB will be available in February and 16 GB in June or July. The class indicates the minimum writing speed, so with class 2 you will be able to write data to your card with at least 2 MB/sec. I don't think your pda will be able to write more than 2 MB/sec. but you can try it out.

8gb sdhc class 4 works fluently!

Is it worth paying extra for a faster micro-SD card?

Have just acquired a Touch Pro 2 on eBay, and am now thinking about getting an SD card for it. I assume the TP2 supports SDHC...?
I can get a 16GB class 2 card for about £30, or a 16GB class 6 card for £50. Am I likely to notice much actual difference in speed between the two when used with a TP2?
Depends.
In day to day usage of the TP2, no I don't really think so. You're not going to be able to take pictures any faster (the camera isn't capable of fast shooting), movies will run fine from a slow card. Maybe searching through your email would be a bit faster, if you have a lot, but I can't imagine it will be significant.
Where you would see a difference is if you take your SDHC card out of the TP2 and put it into a PC for dumping lots of data on it at once - for example, copying over lots of MP3s or movies. If you're transferring multiple GBs at a time direct from a PC, you will notice a worthwile % increase with the faster cards.
So if you do that regularly it might be worth it. If you tend to change the data on the card only infrequently, then I doubt it is.
Personally I will be getting a slow card. I only have a fast card SD card for my Digital SLR camera, where the faster card enables more shots to be taken per second.
whatever you do do not get a Transcend class6 16Gb card. They are not compatible. I know there's a thread listing card compatibility in the rhodium forum, but I couldn't find it now.

Wow, thanks for the warning, that was exactly what I was thinking of getting.
firstly i beleive the class relates to write and not read speed.
second do not buy a card off ebay whatever you do.
i have come accross an a-data 16gb class 6 in my searches. in the end i got 8gb class 4 from play for a tenner delivered. may get a 16gb if i ever hit the limit. by then the price will have dropped to reasonable level.
i had a 2gb in my xperia and never filled it. i have a ipod touch for music and a netbook.

all the cards i have ever bought off ebay have been fakes.
some have worked but been slow. others have corrupt sectors. some have failed all together. thankfully last time pay pal refunded me.
look at www.sosfakeflash.wordpress.com/
buy the card if you want. that site has programs you can test it with to determine if its legit. i will never buy a memory card from ebay again.
Class only deals with write speeds, not read speeds BUT if the card has a higher write speed, it will normally have a higher read speed as well. (Though it's not a set rule).
Thx for the heads up. I think i'm going to risk it anyways. This seller has been on there since 2000 and has sold a ridiculous amount of flash memory ~20,000. I would hope the system would show some signs of fakery over that span of time.
I will try the tool you linked once it arrives tho.
Thx again
PS here is the ebay item # if you want to look: 380143609813
I decided I didn't really need 16GB of storage anyway, and ordered an 8GB class 6 card - a SanDisk Ultra. Got it from these guys on Amazon UK Marketplace.
They have a pretty high turn-over - nearly 30,000 ratings in the past year. I also used this tool to check whether the card was genuine or counterfeit. It passed with flying colours (no errors at all) so I think it's probably the real deal.
A quick, informal test (copying a 700MB file onto the card) suggested it was writing at about 12.5MB/s when the card was connected directly to the PC's USB port, and about 5.5 MB/s when accessed via the phone (in disk-drive mode). That suggests that the phone might get some benefit from a class 6 card, although it's hard to be sure. Certainly this a is a VERY fast card when removed from the phone and connected straight to the PC. (In fact the testing software rated it even higher - 14.9MB/s write, and 17.5MB/s read).
No reliability problems of the sort associated with the Trascend cards (although I'm not sure that affects 8GB cards anyway).
Trancend 16GB Class 6
I currently have a Trancend 16GB Class 6 and it works just fine.
I only buy cards from Sandisk and usually from amazon. EBay has a lot of fakes on it! I have a 16GB Class 2 from amazon that I picked up for $40. Speed test while in Disk Drive mode through the phone show a Write speed of 3.8MB/s and 6.4MB/s read speed. I have 10GB filled so far and It didn't really take that long to do. I'd say if you were filling the card up with 10GB of new music a day then yeah those speed suck but for a few big loads just to get it started no big deal to me.
I can stream a 800x480 AVC ~1.2Mbit off the card with no hiccups. So I'm not worrie about the speed considering anything more then that the processor becomes the bottleneck not the card.

Do you use your tp2 for music?
try playing a few songs in a row from the music tab with screen turned off...
I just recieved an A-Data 16GB Class 6 from ebay. Seems to be fine, passed memory test with no errors @ 8.9MB/S write and 15.1MB/sec read.
Worth the money just copying video and music files to the drive via pc. Way faster than my previous 8GB Class 2. Don't notice any real difference in the phone tho.

I had a Transcend 16Gb class6 that disconnected if I tried that. I had to reboot to get the card to register in the Phone.
Been out on the road for work all week using music over bluetooth and co-pilot 8 heavily. Working like a charm.....maybe i just got lucky.
I'm putting my $0.02 on the table on MicroSDHC cards. Basically for those of you that want faster data transfer on a larger card like an 8GB or 16GB MicroSDHC, it can make a difference but beware of brands that are not well known and their transfer speeds. The Class ratings on the MicroSDHC cards only apply to their guaranteed throughput rates and are NOT indicative of the actual speed experienced on the cards. I've seen some Class 2 Sandisk cards outperform Class 6 A-Data cards before which is a little scary.

class 6 cards?

are there any class 6 16 or 32 gb cards?
my class 6 8gb card just died and im looking to get more space to get rid of my ipod but i dont think a class 2 card would be fast enough to handle 12gb worth of music fluidly like a ipod....
i tried looking for some san disk class 6 cards but i can only find class 2 16 and 32gb cards
and some random "ts" cards that say their class 6 which i really doubt they are

They get kinda warm, or even kinda hot, and can burn out. Especially in the Evo, underneath the battery, which already can easily get >100 deg. F, and not being able to vent.. yeah. Also if it's a cheap card it can just be made really crappy and r/w operations can damage the memory
How do you verify the card is real? I bought a 16gb class 2 from eBay. It says scandisk on it and it only cost 26 bucks. I haven't seemed to have problems with it, but worried about the overheating.

Use h2testw to check for capacity. You can't really tell if it is sandisk or not. Check the read/write speed using atto disk benchmark.
Anyways, a class 2 16 gb microsd goes for ~30-33 on Amazon via third party seller/fufilled by Amazon (less likely to be fake)

if you have a sandisk chip that you know is genuine, compare the two chips. Other wise Google image for a sandisk chip and compare. I think that sandisk usually has a serial or part number on the chip. Not sure of the details but I've heard that fakes are usually lacking something. Also compare the size and build quality to the chip that came with the phone. Sometimes fakes are slightly larger or have crappy glue jobs. Google how to detect a fake. There's some good info. Most of it is what I said.
Ok conducted a test and got this.

which is card to get ?
you know... i personally would go with some 8 gig class six models, example, transcend is selling the 16gig class 6 for 64.99 on new egg but also selling the 8 gig class 6 for 19.99.... which means you could get 24 gigs for less with over 5 dollars to spare which you could use to get a nice 5.99 2.0 card reader all free shipping. besides most custom roms and all future android updates use apps to sd which shortens the life of you sd, why put all your eggs in one basket? i had 2x 8 gig cards on my g1 using apps to sd for a year and a half and never opened the second 8 gig card sold it in its package when i sold my g1 had 1 gig ext3 partition 256 mb swap, plus over 2 gig of music and a bunch of t.v shows its hard to fill up an 8gig card on a mobile device.
I wish I knew about the class 10. I just got an AData 16gb class 6 for $59.99 to replace my other one that went bad.

Wintec 32Gb micro SD class 10 anyone tried?

Browsing newegg i found this card, Never heard of this brand. Anyone have any experience before? Class 10 for a 32gb micro sd seems like a real good deal to me.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...11&cm_re=micro_sd_32gb-_-20-161-411-_-Product
That's incredibly fast indeed. The class thingy is official, because it's just as an official label as an Full HD TV is Full HD. So you can't doubt about that.
How many formats it will survive is the question, but I think the quality of SD cards doesn't matter so much anymore (except the classes)
I am wondering about that as well. It says it has a lifetime warranty so that's great. Also I found this at Fry's (32GB MICRO SDHC CLASS 10, PATRIOT PSF32GMCSDHC10) for $109.99
I just bought two WINTEC 32GB Micro SDHC Class 10 cards at Fry's Electronics today, and so far they're working very well in both my Viewsonic G-Tablet and Samsung Galaxy Tab.
I haven't had time to benchmark the card(s) yet, but there's quite a noticeable difference in the performance of my Samsung Galaxy Tab.
So Far - So Good...
Well, based on just the reviews I've read on Newegg recently for Wintec-branded cards, I'd have to avoid them myself.
I was looking at the 16GB version of the card you're looking at now (Item=N82E16820161405), from Wintec and a Class 10. The feedback appears mostly negative, with many complaints about the card not functioning at all when the customer received it, several about it's speeds diminishing over time (under 6 months), several more about data corruption and/or complete failure occuring within a few months, and one unsettling one about Wintec blaming the customer for damage/abuse and refusing to honor their "Lifetime Warranty."
I can't speak from personal experience, and customer reviews are not 100% reliable, but there are enough people on Newegg dissatisfied with their Wintec MicroSD card to convince me to purchase another brand.
I have two of the 16GB Class 10 cards and they both are working pretty well. One is in my Nookcolor and the other in my Nexus One. Benchmarks were 18.7Mb/sec sequential read and 16.7Mb/sec sequential write. It's a good price and works well so if you are on a budget or just don't want to spend too much money for a card I would recommend these. Hope that helps.
Saw this on newegg for a pretty good price, a class 10 32GB card for $76 sounded good to me. While there are a few bad reviews I don't hold much stock in newegg buyers tbh. They aren't always the most technically proficient individuals and I always like to try things myself anyway. I'll be more than happy to fight to return the thing if it turns out to be bad. Hard to pass up this kind of thing .
Here's the newegg link in case anyone is interested. Mine will get here Tuesday so I will post back with a benchmark. Fingers crossed.
EDIT: After some google searching about similar cards from this company I found a thread on this forum about the 16GB model: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=830491
If you skip to the last page you can see the OP and others had some problems with it. I figure I will stress the crap out of it when I get it, try and find any problems before the clock runs out on returns. I'll probably just write to the the entire card, read it all back, then erase and repeat until something bad happens. Im sure doing it this way I can recreate a month or two of use in just a day or so.
I just ordered on of these yesterday from newegg, I'll be sure to report back how well it works in my SGS once I receive it!

What file system did you use for those devices? I'm not sure what I should format my 32gb card as for my Droid 2. So far from what I have read from google searches it seems android doesnt support exFAT or NTFS which means no large file support :/. I could format it to ext3 or something but that would mean I couldnt use it on windows. Not sure what to do.
EDIT: Well I've been reading and writing to the whole card all day and so far no problems. Writes at 15MB/s and reads back at 20MB/s, pretty good. No corruption or slowdowns at all.

I have been running one and while it is not stellar I get decent speeds with it. The write speed is 9.4 MB/s and the read speed is 19.9MB/s according to the sdtools app. It is noticeably faster than the class 2 card I was using. I have it formatted with fat32.

To slow cards... for double your money you get a class 10 card which is 2.5 time faster and belive me you will feel the difference when filling your card with large movie files
That's not entirely true, I got 2 of these cards and they out perform the Patriot 8GB class 10 card referenced here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1005633
That link will help you get a better idea of why you can't take the class rating of the card at face value. SanDisk consistently labels cards that can perform at higher classes as class 4.
