Here's one for the boffins on here.My BA crashes but it does it in the same place when getting in my car!!! Does the BA have a temperature issue or could it be a Static electricity problem.I have been racking my brains trying to sus this out, thought it could be the radio signal from the key but have tested that and no problems. It only happens once in the car.I do occasionally get that jolt from the handle when opening the car could this be it? Anybody else found this happening to them?
How exactly does it crash? Is there anything on the screen? Does it require a soft reset? Hard reset? What OS/ROM are you using (see Settings/Device Information)?
Are there strong electromagnetic fields from car equipment (speakers, magnet mounts, radio transmitters, etc.)?
You mentioned static electricity. That should not affect the BA unless the BA was in the direct path of the shock, i.e. it had to go through the BA. If it went from your hand to the ground, or from your hand to the air surrounding your skin, then the BA would not be in the direct path, even if it were attached to you.
But even on the small chance that the surface area of the BA relative to the surface area of your skin were large enough to induce a tiny charge which could be detected by the BA during your shock, you can eliminate that immediately, by storing the BA in a metal case. Just for fun, try wrapping the BA in aluminum foil and see if it still happens. You can play mp3s or something to hear whether it crashes.
Does it happen on the driver's side only, or passenger's as well?
When exactly does the crash occur? When you click the key opener? When you open the door? When you sit down? When you start the car? When you change gear? Where (on your person) is the BA all this time, and what state is it in (on, off, running a particular program)?
Is the BA's battery okay? Maintains charge? Does it have a poor connection to the BA, and can the contacts come loose from expansion due to temperature changes and/or from pressure applied externally to the case when entering the car (such as from your pocket or from touching the seat)?
Is the crash SD-card related? Does it happen if you remove the SD card, either immediately or when entering the car? Does it happen if you wiggle the SD card without removing it?
Do you have a WiFi or BT connection which goes in or out of range when entering your car? If so, what are your connection settings and ROM versions?
Does it happen if the keyboard tray is opened and closed?
Are you sure you that have the BA's buttons locked when power is turned off, and aren't pressing them accidentally?
WOW !!! Right first things first I am using the T-mobile 1.42 rom from this site with the latest radio version 1.15 and it is running win 2003 se, but the fault has happened on 3 different roms that I have used 1. was original O2 rom then the latest O2 rom and finally at present the T-Mobile 1.42 rom.
I have already dismissed the key fob and my car has no big stereo system just standard fitted speakers there is also no radio transmitter of any kind in the car.I have tried the the keyboard sliding in and out and no problems there and also no bt connection or wifi switched on.As for the sd card I have used it in other xda's and have had no problems except the blanking of the card due to other known issues with the original xda.Cant really wrap it up in foil as it does not happen everytime just occasionally but always while getting in the car.I use the BA allday long listening to MP3'3 and some surfing with no faults whatsover so Looks like I am back to square one.
I have a similar problem on my orange SPV M2000
Mine crashes (stalls) when in the in-car charging cradle
The occurances vary, sometimes when inserting, sometimes when in use, sometimes at the end of use
I have not had this happen (yet) when on battery power or when using the USB power-up cradle
I have not been able to pin this down to any specific use, but I suspect the BA cannot cope with indirect voltage variances supplied from the in-car chargers
Same here - we have 100 XDAiis in ThinkNavi GPS cradles and they occassionally lock with a blank screen when being taken in or out of the cradle. The lock is total - no key press or stylus soft reset will unlock them - the only cure is to remove the battery for a few seconds and on replacing the battery the unit hard resets - incredibly irritating - all software has to be re loaded. One user who has had this problem many times is now trialling a Carcomm Cradle.
Well guys have found out what the cause it was my Arkon screen mount have already replaced it once but the new one arrived yesterday and guess what as soon as the BA touches the conector on the mount zap it crashes so culprit found trouble is now what do i do for a mount will i get the same problems with another one?

I have recently aquired my own MDAIII from T-Mobile.
And i must say that i am very impressed with it.
I do however have a few questions about it, and i hope someone here can answer them.
- How do i turn that annoying standy lamp off *blink* *blink*
- Whats the maximum size of the memory card? (and whats the best to get?)
- How do i lock the screen? (when playing an mp3 in mediaplayer and i press standby, it literaly goes to standby and pauzes the programs. and if i just slip in into its cover all kinds of buttons gets pressen and nasty things start happening ;-) )
And finaly:
I am looking for a good Gameboy Advanced emulator, the one i am curently using (Morphgear) is realy realy slow and id rather not overclock untill i realy _realy_ have to
Also, it is in anyway possible to use this device as an FM receiver? (mp3s are fine, but i like to listen to radio sometimes to)
fm card
There is few FM CF cards out there, I not sure if they made that in a SD card format. But you can check out the Mobileplanet store and see what they have.
Hi,
I dont think you can turn the light off
I've got a 1GIG SDcard working fine in mine
I havn't found a way to play MP3's etc and switch the phone off.
PS, Is the keyboard slide mechanism rigid on your MDA 3 and also is there a visible gap between the screen and keyboard when you look at the phone from the side and botttom ? as the this is the case with my XDA 2s and I think it may be a fault.
a response would be appreciated.
My MDAIII has tight keyboard and no gap. I think it's just luck whether or not you get a tight one.
No no... Iv been brought up to always inspect before hand. No good having a loose one for the rest of your life.
I do not know if somebody faced this problems before or not:
1- The soft-keys, dial key, call drop key, and the scrolling keys; are always while pressing them for long time does not response until turning off the screen by pressing the power button then turning on again to keep working for awhile then same thing happen again.
2- The screen is sometimes fade to be completely white & brightness more, and everything hidden until turning off the screen by pressing the power button then turning on it again
If anybody knows how to fix this matter please provide me with the solution.
Thanks for all concerned
I had the same exact problem... I fixed it by getting a warranty exchange from AT&T!
I have the same problem! Unfortunately my phone is not covered by warranty. I think it's a hardware issue because I changed a number of ROMs and the problem persisted. I don't know what to do, it's driving me nuts!
Help anybody???
Good news!
Ok, as far as the key problem goes, using the PDF file about HTC TyTN where you can see how EXACTLY to disassemble and assemble the TyTN I took the courage to open up my TyTN and pull up the motherboard and clean everything up and close it tightly back. However I did not completely disassembled it as the manual shows because I did not want to remove any stuff that's glued like the rubber parts and the metal tape that holds the keyboard connector. So basically, I did not reach the part where the soft keys are, but somehow miraculously my keys are working nice again! I guess the problem was just loose connections and probably it was loosing contact somewhere because keys worked sometimes and then suddenly stopped.
Anyways, it's been 2 days now and the keys work perfectly and my TyTN is not so loose like it's going to fall apart as it was before!
P.S.
I haven't noticed the white screen problem also but it's been only 2 days and it wasn't happening so often before anyways.
This issue is known -there are threads in hermes section, search for white screen..
Its a harware issue with XILINX coolrunner(if I remember it right) on the front keypad below screen.. It propably has some bad solders under it -mine went so bad that it showed only white screen until I disassemled the unit and pressed directly the chip with my fingers
Then I bought a new circuit from cnn -at the moment it had those boards for sale, not anymore. That fixed my problem.
Among the threads someone got his/her phone to operate again by putting something between the cover and the chip..
I had the problem on my handset and managed to fix it by cutting up a piece of card..be it and old credit card or whatever to the size of the recess that the chip fits in...this pushes against it nicely and since then only had the problem reoccur once...then it was cured by just putting the handset into standby mode and back to normal again

Hello Tech GURUS,
I returned from a long tour (I kept my XDA EXEC at home) & found that my XDA EXEC has got a problem of WHITE SCREEN!! Nothing is Displayed!!
May be brother's childrens or anyone of my friend accidentally did it in my absence(Sorry I'm NOT Sure). May be they pivoted (Turned) the screen in a WRONG DIRECTION!
That doesn't matter WHO DID IT, But the problem screwed my head & I started to trace the problem.
Symptoms:
1) Only WHITE SCREEN(with LCD Backlight), Nothing Else.
2) Charges perfectly through USB & also from Charger.
3) When I connects it to ACTIVE SYNC, it Syncs fine & I can able to explore the files/folders. Copy from & to the handset memory is also works fine.
4) Tried to enter into BOOTLOADER Mode(by pressing Light+Power+Reset), there also got a BLANK SCREEN (NO LCD Backlight).
5) TOUCH SCREEN detects TAPs & make sounds (Tick Tick), That indicates Touch Screen Working fine.
6) Qwerty KeyBoard Works fine. I don't know at what extent, since I can't see nothing on screen. But when I press a key on QWERTY Kbrd, it sounds Tick.
7) Transfered(Beamed) a CONTACT from my another XDA IIi & found Its accepted the beamed data.
8) Volume Up/Down make sounds (Tick, Tick...).
What I Did:
1) Removed the Battery & re-inserted & tried to BOOT it. NO result, just a WHITE SCREEN.
2) Purposely Tried to Rotate the Screen in Wrong Direction to test the loose contacts of co-axial cable.
3) Lastly Dis-Assembled the whole handset (Removed all parts 100%) & Re-Assembled it. But the Problem remains SAME.
4) Dis-Assembled again & this time I tested the LCD Co-Axial Cable's connectivity from MainBoard side connector to LCD Side Connector. There are 2 Cables which connects to LCD. One is 30 Cores Cable & Second one is 40 Cores Cable.
I Successfully tested 30 Cores Cable(Actually it used only 28cores cable, remaining 2 points at connector are DUMMY) & Second 40 Cores Cable I'm UNABLE to Test Since I lost my patience while connecting my Testing Meter to Hair Line sized cores & in just an 10mm connector got 40 cores!!!
5) Observed all cores which passes through SCREEN ROTATOR BASE Hinges & found there is NO physical Damage or CORE CUT.
CAN ANYONE HELP ME TO SOLVE THIS WHITE SCREEN PROBLEM?
IS IT A HARDWARE BASED PROBLEM? OR SOFTWARE BASED?
IS IT A PROBLEM WITH DISPLAY CHIP(IC) ON MAINBOARD?
JUST CONFUSED & SEEKING HELP FROM TECH GURUS.
THANKS IN ADVANCE.
HellCrusher.

This seems to be a hardware problem. Check connectors in the display housing first. This unit is quite easy to disassemble.
Before you start, you should have a look in the universal SERVICE MANUAL to check out how it gets torn apart .
If all connectors to the display are right in place, but your display still shows nothing ...open the universal body too.
Folow the steps in the manual

White Screen
Hello, this is my first post. May I first just say how great I think this site is, the guides on here really are useful to beginners.
With regard to the white screen, not sure if this helps, but during dismantling of my various PDAs, I managed to connect an LCD ribbon incorrectly, I kind of forced it in & folded one contact over, resulting in white screen. Disconnected, straightened & refit. Hey presto, works like a charm. Hope this helps.
I had the issue, had to buy a new flat cable
It is rare to actually see the damage to the cable, because the damage is inside the insulation....
Best regards!
On the topic...
Hello!
I have a similar issue with my Orange SPVm5000, except that mine will work for up to a minute after a hard reset before going to a white screen.
If I hard reset pressing the left+right+reset keys, the device shows the boot screen and sometimes ever goies into the initial setup but then all of a sudden it goes white. I've opened up the screen and verified and reconected all connections but still the problem persists. Also I've noticed that its not any action I make that causes it; more like a heat/timing issue. Per advice above, I will check the connections in the body but does anyone have any other ideas?!?
Thanks!
Greg.
I have a similar problem. The story;
I purchased an orange branded M5000 on flebay described as second hand in fantastic condition blaa blaa.
When the phone eventualy turned up it had no manual, the outer sleeve of the box was missing and the wrong usb cable was supplyed (one of those larger usb plugs you usualy get for printers.
I have shedlooads of cables and rely wasn't bothered about any of these problems at the time and went about charging the phone (it was totaly flat)
When fully charged I stuck my sim in and poweded her up the phone works fine in portrate and landscape view but as you rotate the screen so it is inline with the keyboard the screen fades to white about half way.
I contacted the seller who basicly told me the phone is second hand so sold as seen!?!?!?
I have flashed various roms on it to see if it was a software fault but nothing.
I think this phone had been in storage as its battery was totaly flat and incorrect accessories suggest the seller didn't check it before shipping. So I believe there is a problem with this phone that occurs when stored.
Sorry for the long post
Have you flashed any rom or just had this problem ...
my conclusions:
1. If you have flashed a new rom to your universal, try to reflash the original rom, it works for many users.
2. If you havent flashed any rom, maybe its a hardware problem.
2.1 If you just used it in a bad way, (ie: rotate screen in wrong way), dissamble it..
2.2 If you have let it on a heat, weat, etc.. place.. maybe the mainboard got a cut-circuit.
Saludos
I tryed a couple of popular WM6 roms (I forget whitch ones) and returned to the genuine Orange WM5 rom. So I doubt its a software fault.
As far was extreme conditions go the phone was well packaged when posted I will gove that to the seller SO unless the eposure happened before shipping I don't think thats to blame ether.
I think the wire in the swivle joint is failing and will continue to get worse as the joint is exercised.
Try to clear it up..

i made a lot experiments with the uni, so let me try to focus what's wrong:

Sounds like the image could not be loaded completely.
The framebuffer is initialized correctly after cold boot, but afterwords booting into wince fails.
So maybe it's pure software issue (flash content is corupt -> image is broken).
Other possibility: Some region of your flash is damaged (more hardware related).

Looks to me like a typical cable issue. Maybe someone twisted the screen the wrong way!
So this is what i guess at least.

White screen
99 % of these white screen faults is a typical cable issue. And you don't have to twist your screen wrong way to have this problem, also.... just twist it too often First you have to see if the device is working, apart the screen.... call the number of your phone see if it is just screen related problem. Broken display cable will leave your device oprational, you just don't see the image.
I know it is "less painfull" for people to think it is a software problem.... (The "it would not happen to me" syndrome ) but sometimes things just brake, and moving parts are most risky...
The fact you don't see the damage is of no importance due to the size and nature of the damage. Don't expect to see broken wires in the cable. And even if you check the cable by you instrument, somethimes it will show you it's ok, but in some positions it will loose contact.
Try a different cable... that way you'll be sure.
Best regards, and all the luck!
"Looks to me like a typical cable issue. Maybe someone twisted the screen the wrong way!"
I agree and luckily, finally paypal do as well.
It is being boxed up to a red faced seller as we speak.
A happy ending for me (speaking to soon?)
i hav the same problem as u "HELLCRUSHER" and i flashed also but was not able to cure
still hav this white screen ..
Found this link for some where selling the screen cable assmebly.

Hope this is of use.
this is a strange one, when i slide out the keyboard out it works fine, but sometimes when i "close" the keyboard away it switches off the phone completly. initially i thought it was software, as i was playing around with some files/settings that mucked the phone up bluetooth wouldnt wwork, nor gps and the phone ran very slow, so i thought i'd upgrade to htcs official 6.5 rom on their webiste (last weekend) and the problem is still there. so i assume its hardware, but i dont understand how. it doesnt matter what program im in it will sometimes just switch the phone off, if im sending a message it doesnt have time to send and its not saved in outbox or draft.
if i close the screen really slowly, slower than the springs want to it seems to not switch off as often.
the phone is an unbranded TP2 bought in august 2009 with the HTCS unmolested 6.1 rom originally.
i dont want to send it off for repair if i dont have to, but have you guys got any ideas
Does the phone completely turn off or just suspend? If it turns off completely it is definitely a hardware issue.
i have that happen too, usually after I switch batteries, so I figured its a hardware thing. Battery losing connection when being jarred by closing I guess? so I tried putting a folded small piece of paper under the battery door to hold the battery firmly there, seems to work so far...

I haven't had the issue happen to me, but I've seen a number of posts around here where TP2 owners have had that issue and the solution that worked for several of them was to wedge something under the cover to hold the batt tightly in place...apparently on some models there's just enough wiggle room for it to break the connection and shut the phone off when there's sudden sharp movement, like the slide-close causes.
never thought of the battery, i'll try that cheers
So my phones earpiece began to cut in and out, which I found to be a chafed and broken flex cable. No biggie, I ordered a replacement piece and waited for it to show. As I waited the phone began to get worse, I lost the earpiece entirely, the leds stopped working as well as the sleep button. The screen, now only able to be woken by sliding, would not come on when slid out, but only once it returned..also the screen would shut off when I would slide it out again.
I have seen disassembled the phone again and installed the new cable and all is well, with one exception. The slide function of the screen no longer works, period. It will not wake, it will not rotate, and the keyboard doesnt illuminate unless I press a key. I have been through this phone 4 more times now and I simply cannot pin down exactly what tells the phone that it has been slid. I have heard talk of magnets, but found no sensor or magnet, I saw small contacts..that are all functioning properly. There is no cable or connection to the screen portion that connects to any sort of switch that I can see.
Does anyone know what triggers the slide?!
Sorry mate, im not an expert but I thought this may help.

The link is to the FCC website showing links to internal photos of the phone, SAR values, micellaneous stuff, etc.
Maybe a different perspective of the phone might help.
Hope this helps you
