New ROM - uninstallting 3 applications??? - JASJAR, XDA Exec, MDA Pro Software Upgrading

Hi Guys, i can seem to uninstall the three default applications that the extended ROM installs:
Antivirus
Backgammon
Skype
Does anyone how to remove them...

What I did was unlock the Ext ROM and copy-delete everything in it. Then I just installed back Imate Backgamon and Skype to my SD Card. I also selectivly installed the file for SIM Manager. Saved me tons of memory, about 6MB.

Did someone of you all talented and gifted people found a way to delete\add programs in the JJ extended rom?
i keep deleting them using the total commander and they keep coming back after a hard reset.
As i understand:
1) All cellular network operator specifications found in the extended rom are taking a lot of memory space that can be freed.
2) The anti-virus program is slowing the whole thing operation as it is allways running on the background.
3) I know other cab files i would like to add to the extended rom in order that they will be installed automatically after a hard reset.
What do you think?
You can find the three cab files for the CA anti-virus, backgammon, and Skype, on the xda ftp site. Go to wiki.xda-developers.com, find the ftp link most of the way down that page, scroll down to Universal, click on the link under Universal uploads, then click on the extended rom folder on the ftp site and Joe Bongo.zip under that.
Use add / remove program to uninstall these three programs - anti-virus, backgammon, and Skype. After they're uninstalled, in turn, tap on the cap file for each of these three apps and when the install dialog comes up, choose to install TO THE SD CARD.
It says there is a problem installing the anti-virus program on the SD, but it's not true, it works fine from the SD card. Putting the three apps anti-virus, backgammon, and Skype on the SD card frees up about 4.2MB of space in ROM (storage).
Don't hard reset and these apps won't wind up back in the ROM. You don't need to hard reset unless you are installing an new ROM.
Alternately, you can go the more involved route in the link below to free up a little more space. If you get the Joe Bongo extended ROM, you'll see that there are 7 other cab files in the extended ROM. They take up about 0.5 MB of space. I'm not going to hard reset my device to save 0.5 MB of ROM space, because it's not that much space and I'll lose all of my settings on hard reset.

Hi cool_case and thank you for your reply
what i wanted is something totaly different
1) i wanted to delete the files i do not need from the extended rom (to free up some memory)
2) i wanted to add programs i do need, to the extended rom (to make installation automatic after a hard reset)
as you probably know, when i remove programs allready installed (like the anti-virus) i am never 100% sure what registry changes were made (altough i am deleting all changes i know of, using a registry editor).
Hi aseptic,
One of the xda-developers aces will be fairly like to figure out how to create a special ROM image that doesn't have have the extended ROM stuff in it. You may be familar with the Anansky hack (and later easier methods) posted in early summer here for the xda mini (JAM) that freed up about 27MB of 'storage'.
okay i will be waiting
The thing about deleting things from the extended rom to free up memory is that the extended rom is already partitioned so deleting things from the extended rom will not actually free up space. It will only prevent the deleted things from installing the next time you hard reset.
We will need some sort of other hack to free up this partitioned space (big storage hack). Just deleting them from the extended rom will not do what you're hoping for.
This WORKED for me!!
Following the instructions listed on this page I was able to reclaim 15M+ for Storage and Programs on my JasJar.
http://wiki.howardforums.com/pocketpc/index.php/Selectively_Bypassing_the_Extended_ROM
Not to bore you guys with result details here is how it played out with application installation:
After hard reset with Extended ROM bypass (eliminating Backgammon/Antivirus/Skype)
Storage 39.52 Program 28.27
After first ActiveSync 4.1 Storage 34.53 Program 21.29
Installs with soft reset after each:
Resco File Explorer Storage 33.31 Program 21.39 (?)
SPB Imageer ' 30.03 21.35
Pocket Artist 3 28.08 21.55
Listpro 4 27.24 21.45
PhatPad 26.42 20.84
MS Pocket Streets 5 25.92 20.75
TCPMP 24.28 20.25
Magic Button 24.15 20.44
NewsBreak 23.32 20.25
also on 2G SD Card Pocket Informant / MS Reader / Weather Panel
Sync includes 1,235 Contacts / 3 years of Calendar / 2 years of email (3 accounts) (attachments on SD) etc.
Bottom line Storage 19.67 Program 14.86
I wouldn't consider this too shabby.
Darn sight better than with the fluff on Extended ROM.
Hopefully this may be of interest

Thanks for the link to the hofo wiki with the very clear instructions for bypassing the extended_ROM installation.
What I had done before was use add-remove programs to remove Backgammon, the CA anti-virus, and Skype. Then, I used the cab files for these three apps found on the xda ftp site to install these three to the SD. This saved about 4.2MB of storage. People had said that this method didn't really remove the apps from ROM.
But, that's apparently not the case. I followed the instructions for bypassing the extended ROM installation above and wound up with about 1MB more of "storage" memory than was obtained by just removing the three apps above manually using add-remove. So, the method above works is a little better, because while you can manually remove the backgammon, anti-virus and skype, you can't manually remove the carrier settings.
Another good thing came of doing this -- Sunnysoft backup did a nice job of restoring settings, including Today Screen plug-in settings Haven't found any omissions yet, but as I don't sync pim data, can't comment on whether Sunnysoft does that.

SD card not loaded on startup with aku 3.2

hi falks ,
i have tried the 3 available sources of aku 3.2 rom on this beloved forum, from the 3 UNI gladiators ; the same problem occuring in each rom; icons fail to be retreived from apps on the sdcard, forum gurus had a vision that this is becoz the sdcard is not loaded on startup..... also , it is impossible to use an sdcard app on the startup folder, probably for the same reason, is there any way to work around this , or perhaps set a delay on startup apps untill they r able to be read from the sdcard ??????
hale to the uni genius guys, they help to make our life easier
Did you see this in my ROM?
And what are you trying to run from your SD card?
indeed
yes indeed , i m using your beautiful rom currently, 94 ...
i tried to put mobitools on the startup running from the sdcard , however , system couldnt find it on startup . yet after system complete the startup process ( 60 sec may be) , i can run mobitools manually. ( this is why i was thinking of setting a delay before running startup apps .
any , the MOST annoying bug i incountered in the THREE roms (lt.comdr, indra, jwr) was that ALL today plugin lounchers applications FAILED to retreive icons from any app installed on the sdcard, instead , it shows the ugly generic windows standard exe icons (and sometimes even a folder icon) .
i used most of the available lounchers including : spb plus 3.4 , handy shortcut, clouncher, shortcut manager , and even the START menu itself, shows the same problem.
- browsing the sdcard using explorer does not correct the problem.
- i m using sandisk ultra II sdcard (2gb) with a FAT32 system.
For your kind care ,
Let me look into it. I will try a few setting changes and such to see what I can figure out, if anything at all....
I will keep you posted.
-Jwrightmcps
P.S. I released a newer version of my ROM 1.90.96 WWE, I suggest you upgrade if possible (It contains a few corrections and patches)
i already downloaded it , can u tell us what are the changes?
will flash it now

Hi, I have a similar with the same version, it seems that the SDCARD is loaded with lots of delay. For my part, i had modified the registry to point email folders to SDCARD, with work well. When i soft reset, a directory Storage Card is created under root and the SDCARD is mounted as Storage Card2. As workaround, I deleted the fake Storage Card directory and unplug and replug the SDCard and the mount was then ok. But problems reappear after soft reset.
Anybody can help here?

I think I remember someone else have this problem before, but I could not remember how they solved it. Did you reformat your SD card using your computer?

I am using AKU 3.2 version .94 and spb pocket plus 3.1.2 ( latest version ), and I have more than 15 programs installed on my 4Gb SD card. All of them have an icon in SPB, and they never disappear. Could it be that you SD is slower ? Mine is a 150x Transcend card.
I have tested the Start menu behaviour also. I placed two SD-based program links in the start menu, and made a soft reset to see if the icons will still be there : NO, they disappear. So there I see the same problem unfortunately...

I installed AKU 3.2 1.90.96 on my qtek9000, from programs on sd-card, (like sprite backup, mobipocket reader, magic ss, tcpmp, opera, PromilleCheck, StDict, Skype) created icons with TC under Start Menu/Programs and everyone works fine, after more soft resets also. It's a noname sd-card, 155X.
In Windows\Start Menu\Programs are *.lnk files, like this: xnpocket.exe lnk. Content: 56#"\Storage Card\Program Files\XnView Pocket\xnpocket.exe"
well, i installed spb plus 3.1.2 , and i reformated the sdcard into fat16 using pocket mechanic , without a fat backup , BUT NOTHING CHANGED, still the same problem

mSD not recognised by Outlook + Extended ROM

Hi,
I installed the LVSW (Pro Style) 15/3/07.
I synchronized it with exchange, and when going through the options to shove all the attachments onto the microSD card.
Although it [options] only displays that there's only 2.76mb free - IT'S 1GB card with over 700MB free. Could this have something to do with Extended Rom being available? [I installed the 3DES.1 ROM before and unlocked Extended Rom].
Question 2:
Now that Extended Rom is open - I want to delete some of the things on there, that I will never use - like Operator specific programs. Although I don't have permissions ?!

1. - This can be changed by changing the Ext ROM directory in the Registry to say Storage Card 2... as the inbox application searches for the first available Storage it doesnt give you an option...
2. use HTweakC application to unhide and allow write access to the ext_rom... but you must have either installed Olipro's patched driver or SuperCID'ed your device to have write permissions...
great - thank you.
for now - i've disabled the 'extended', and it's all back to normal - although I'll look into deleting some files off there this weekend.
thanks

I'm using Total Commander to attempt to edit this value in the registry, but can't locate it. Tried searching for "Ext ROM" and "ExtROM". Where in the registry can the Ext ROM directory name be changed to Storage Card 2?
Thanks much!

Maybe someone can help me with the following problem:
I installed a 4 gb memory card using the patch and it works perfectly. The phone identifies it and I use it for music files and the tom-tom without any problems. However, when I wanted to install a new program I was asked where I want to install it (phone, memory card or Bluetooth). I chose the memory card, the program begins with the installation but then I get the following message: “your telephone has not enough memory. Delete old or unused items to create new memory”. It seems (although I chose for the memory card) that the program is trying to be installed on the phone memory. Does anybody have a solution for this problem? The HTC help service said its because the memory card is 4 gb which they don’t recommend.
Hi,
Many .cab files are setup to copy some files on internal memory even if you choose "Storage Card".
You can try to download WINCE Cab Manager to check your cab file and change location of destination files using this program.
WHat is the software you are trying to install? Is it actually a CAB file or desktop installer?
Does this happen for all software you try to install?
Please let us know.
thanks for your reply,
the program is called " the 5 minute veterinary consult feline and canine".
its from skyscape and its specially for wm users.
when i installed the tom tom on the memory card i didn't have any problems. i will try to install the WINCE Cab Manager.
thanks a lot for your advise. i will let you know if it worked.

[Q] "All" apps missing after removing SD card (apps2sd)

I had to test another SD card so i borrowed my girlfriends Wildfire... (oh-o..)
It's rooted & last WildPuzzleRom, I turned it off, replaced the SD card and restarted it. Then I put back the original SD card when i was done and restarted it again thiniking that the apps will re-initiate.
Now most of her apps are missing except basic Sense ones. Most troublesome is that the market app is gone to so i can't install any new apps or (re)install Titanium to backup her data (mostly sms) before reflashing it all.
When looking in the "native" app mangager i can see the apps installed and the size of their data folders but the program size is 0.00kb
Please help
1: Can i force restart/remount/rescan of apps2sd apps?
2: can i force an (re)installation of titanium without having access to market/astro or any file manager?
3: Can i somehow backup her SMS etc in any other way?
Pics etc are ok thank g*d since they are on the FAT32 partition but if i don't get the rest fixed there will be most unpleasant consequences for me, i trully beg of your support or she will have me neutered!
Check the apps2sd commands page in the first instance. I'm mobile at the moment so can't help much.
Sent from my HTC Wildfire using Tapatalk
just searched the command line page for u. maybe if this helps....
