Since unlocking the ext ROM, I have found that when I soft reset the Jasjar, my communicatio and e-mail account settings are lost. The Internet and work (WAP) settings are present but the user name and password fields are empty and I have to re-input the details each time. Also,my personal e-mail account details are completely wiped and I have to set it up from scratch. Any ideas what could be causing this and more importantly how to cure it?
You might want to take a look at this. I had a similar issue on the Qtek 9000 and it required a hardware replacement.

Thanks Beyondthe Tech,
That seems to cover the symptoms exactly. I'll try the tips and possibly investigate changing the main board.

POP Email accounts and elements of Network setting disappear once in a while.
It happens with all the new ROMs. I've done the mUn thing, where one opens a connection, stops it and restarts. But the accounts still disappear, sometimes after weeks of use, sometimes after just a few days.
There is an app to resurrect the missing email account, but after you still have to input servers and address. Just very annoying while traveling.
What is the damned problem and is there a permanent solution?
I have changed the file registry type (File based registry) from "Hive" to "File" using tweaks2k2 and it seems ok, someone else needs to cross check it
please explain
I also would avoid this repetitive problem , could you please how to try , step by step , in simple words ?
thanks
Thanks, taiseer999! I just changed to File, keeping my fingers crossed. BTW, how long have you used it after the change without loss of settings?
tower5, you need tweaks2k2 (it has 3 changes trial and go to System Tricks/Collection 5. Check File Based Registry (WM5).
Hopefully this works (it sounds like it should.)
P.S. Perhaps. if this really works, the ROM chefs can integrate it into the ROMs. Is there any disadvantage to using File rather than Hive?
I´ve been following all the steps that mun_rus wrote down and after the last upgrade I didn´t do it right away so I lost my e-mail accounts quite a few times and when I try to set the same account up with the same name and settings the pda pops up a message saying that there´s another account with the same name and I don´t know where and I don´t see it.
But now I guess it´s working fine, after several soft resets my new account it´s till there.

It doesn't work, unfortunately:-(
Checked mail last night, a little later went to check again, and the email account had disappeared.
This is just crazy....
What is the reason this is happening? To ALL the new ROMs?
Why MS don't Fix this Big Problem?

yes, mailrepair.exe do recover the mail account.
but the main problems is not only about mail account, it is a datebase lost or cert lost.
even u recover the mail account and setup all the password again to make the wm system continue working, it became unstable anyway.
once account lost, best way out is hard-reset.
in daily use, avoid to reset the handset as much as possible.

It's a security feature of wm6, bugged of course.
Disabling file system cache can help (I've never lost email account until now) but you still have to take care to close PO before a soft reset.
Ciao
been using RUU_Trinity_DOPODASIA_WWE_3.00.707.18_6275_1.46.30.11_108_Ship for a good while and the e-mail accounts don't even think of disappearing...so there you go...
I have also used Dobod-wwe in my HTC since it was released and never had issues with mail accounts. Also tried pdaviet and Bepe but original dobod was most stable for my HTC.
Still......Issue

just started using ax3l's lite rom, wi-fi settings and mail accounts seemed to stay there no problem untill I installed network wizard. After that everything disappears after every reset. Could that be the cause....?
just when I got most of my apps neatly reinstalled and all....has to be done all over again...at times like these I really have to fight the temptation to throw the thing against the wall...Thankfully I got an N95 as well which never loses settings so back into the pocket the P3600 goes, hail the N95
will update on that settings /mail accs business when I get the nerve to reinstall everything again
Yay, got my accounts back! Thanks!
I'm not going to pretend to know what I'm talking about, but I can tell you that in the past, it was mentioned that it had something to do with the Old and New Kernels. The Old one (WM5) was fine, while the new one (WM6) is not. At least that's what I THINK I remember.
Anways, for whatever reason, my ROMs don't have this problem. Here are a couple that I know avoid it:
[KITCHEN+ROMS][WWE][Jun.28.2010] WM6.5.1 23504 - WM6.5.5 23569 M2D Blue Re-Visit
[KITCHENS+ROMS][WWE][ITA][Nov.04.2009] WM6.5 23504 - Sorry NOT FOR P3600i! OFFLINE
[KITCHENS+ROMS] [WWE] [10.27.2009] WM6.5 23081 - Sorry NOT FOR P3600i!
I have used the same Kernel in Most all of my Kitchens, so maybe that is it...
Have done a search, found nothing and am posting on here for help.
For some time now the email ounter on my device has been out by 6 items i.e. when there are no emails downloaded the device reports that there are 6.
My guess is that windows mobile stores the email counter somewhere in the registry. If that is correct could someone please tell me which registry entry it is and how to reset it?
If that assumption is incorrect how does one permanently reset the email counter in windows?
Many thanks
WB
PS Device and ROM details are in my signature below.
I used to run k's rom, and never had that issue, but he hasn't posted anything in near/over a year. Same for that rom.
It might be time to try another rom, or do a hard reset and start over.
WM 6.1 has matured, try one and see how it goes.
Boog,
Thanks for the response. It's definitely not an issue to do with K's rom, which I have been using trouble free for nearly a year. I simply deleted a load of emails off my device recently and found the counter set at 6 instead of zero.
If someone can't come up with an answer then I know I can resolve by doing a hard reset. However I am loath to do this as it will take at least 3 days to rebuild my device back up from scratch, even though my essential data is backed up. Don't really want to do this unless I absolutely have to.
I am certain this is a registry problem; just need a pointer as to where to go looking to fix it.
Anyone else able to help please?
Thanks
WB
Well, my rlToday skin uses the following key to display the UNREAD email count.
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\System\State\Messages\TotalEmail\Unread\Count
Also, you might want to check in your mail folder in \Windows (unless you've changed it). This folder holds the body of emails as text files *.mpb.
Thanks Degaud,
Cleared the registry entry, powered off the device to ensure changes saved, rebooted and same problem. Despite the counter being reset to zero it seems there must be another variable involved elsewhere.
Appreciate the help but it looks like a hard reset is the only way out.

Before a hard reset
If you are willing to go for a hard reset, maybe you`d be willing to try this first this, it`s an old utility (freeware) but worked for me sometime ago.

Good luck
Luiggi,
Thanks for the heads up. No joy either so I have bitten the bullet and rebuilt the device from the ground up.
In truth it was probably a good idea to rebuild as I now only have half the number of applications that I used to have on it, my device has a new look and feel and, above all, is miles quicker than it used to be.
Appreciate the help from everyone.

I'm hoping someone can help me with this.
Using EnergyRom 28008 on a Touch Pro 2 I can't download email off of Comcast. I've had it working on a previous version of the ROM but I don't know why (if it was something I did, if it was the Rom, or some other variable).
Two things get my attention, but they may be nothing. First, is that after I've entered my email password, and save the settings, when I return to settings there are about twice as many stars in the password field as there are letters in my actual password. This occurs if I use manual setup or not. I'm thinking there's a chance it just fills the field with the same number of stars no matter what the real length of the password as a security measure. Or, it's saving my password incorrectly.
The other thing which gets my attention is that in the username field it saves it as "[email protected]" instead of just leaving it as "username". Saving and coming back, it's always adding on the "@comcast.net" part. I'm pretty sure this has to be a problem as Comcast wants the "@comcast.net" part left off.
Does anyone know of a solution? Is this just one of those wait and see things? They'll fix it eventually? Or is it a problem specifically with NRG's ROM? Is there a known solution, perhaps a registry setting I could change to work around the auto-botch effect? Any help would be very appreciated.
Hi I have a HTC TP 2 and since yesterday it says that my password for the phone is not correct so i cant do anything with the phone. My password always is/was 1989 so there is no possibility that i fil in a wrong pasword. does any one hase experiences with this ?
Is there a solution without a Hard reset ?
this has happened to me also... I woke up and my phone was frozen, then I took out the battery to restart it... It didn't help at all. I think I may have to hard reset. I may have to lose my tasks and calendar schedules. AND photos...
No one knows any solution to this?
1. Posts with "Question" as the title are not helpful. Almost everyone in here is lookeing for help and descriptive titles help us help you.
2. After a hard reset you can get all your appointments, tasks, contacts back by simply resyncing to your computer. Assuming you're using Outlook, of course.
3. You should always keep photos and e-mails on your SD card. It is unaffected by a hard reset. There are several thread in here on how to change where your phone stores these items.
Anyone here tell me what the actual setting in the Exchange Active Sync profile causes this error? I am working with my IT group to get back access to the Exchange server that is currently locked out because of a missing security setting.
Microsoft dissed me, Samsung blames Exchange, Exchange peeps won't budge with out direction and I love my phone so I won't go back.
Thanks,
Brian
It has to do with security policies... It could be a number of things (I think on the older WM6 phones, sometimes it actually would tell you why)...
Your IT department should be able to look at logs on their side to find out why it's not being passed...
Keep in mind, this could be something as easy as you not having a pin password when you use your phone (phone lock). But if your IT department have changed default settings, it could be something more complicated.
First off, I would set a phone lock password, and try setting up the sync. If that doesn't work, you'll have to wait for your IT department.

Thank you for the response. I have tried several gyrations of password before Exchange add, Exchange delete and reinstall, number of things. The real puzzling thing is that the settings they have shown me from screen grabs are all supported by WP7. I posted the error code on the Windows Phone boards at MS and no response yet. I have seen other codes for security issues, this one seems to be a lot more obscure. I was hopping someone could bust out a decoder ring so I could just tell our IT guys what to do (pretty common).
I told them about being able to circumvent the password lock in Win6.5 with a simple registry edit, blew their minds.
IT found the fix, sort of. They rebuilt the security policy as part of an another user issue and the phone syncs correctly. Apparently, importing the security policy from Exchange 2003 into 2010 brings along some baggage.
Still no clue what actually caused it, but if anyone else around the web finds this thread because of the error code, ask your peeps to rebuild the policy. They will have other issues besides yours, eventually.
