Hi all, I use TomTom on my MDA Compact, data is stored on a Mini-SD card (with Adapter to normal SD card size). When I run TomTom I notice some "hangups" from time to time (every 10 seconds or so), the program hangs for about 1 second. After that, it runs again w/o problem until the next hangup.
My question now: Is the Mini-SD card the source of this problem, would a normal SD card be better (or quicker)?
Or is this a normal behavior for TomTom?
Greetings and TIA, Matthias
it might be the card or other problem caused by the pda,
mini sd is not worse than sd (unless poor quality)
tomtom should run fine, (unless other cause for problem)
My guess is that you need a faster card.

My TOMTOM navigator on Qtek 9090 is extremely slow in searching street or displaying MAP.
I've previously used it on an IPAQ2210 and it works really well.
Anyone experienced the same ?
bye
Manuel
Yeah a friend of mine has bought a QTEK9090 with the Rom version 1.22.?? and he is expriencing the same problem.
Switching from navigator to map view takes about 2 minutes.
His configuration is: TT3 Nav program and GPS driver installed in RAM and the maps are on a SD card.
We've tried several different SD cards but no luck.
I think personnaly the SD card interface is the bottle neck but haven't tried putting the map in RAM too.
This would only work for maps which are small enough to fit in memory.
Regards
Mark
Same problem for me, even worse, I simply cannot install it despite the fact I used the last updates released by TomTom.
It's not even a SD card problem since I have an 512mb Sandisk ultraII
So I'm planning to turn to Mobile Navigon 4 where there is any pb with the 9090....
i dont think it comes from the SD card, i m using Mobile navigator|4 from Navigon, my maps are stored on my SD card and it works at a very acceptable speed.
I s a bit longer to boot the software that is much bigger than TT (About 9 Mo) but once it s loaded it works quite well.
Does anyone know of a GPS SD Card which has memory as well as the GPS....???
I have found a GPS SD Card - but it doesn't have any memory which is quite useless if your trying to run a SatNav solution...
Look forward to any suggestions....??

why not get a bluetooth gps and that keeps the sd free
tomtom 3 runs on them reasonably well with bluetooth
pm me if u want recomendations etc

The benefit of SD GPS - is that the PDA can become a "Lone Worker" tracking device....
With a bluetooth device, the user would have to walk with TWO devices instead of 1.......therefore a lot easier a solution for users ------
We are bound to see the demise of Bluetooth GPS as the SD slot gets more and more useage....
Any further comments are always welcome....

It's a dream: an SDIO GPS with integrated slot where you can put a(n up to) 2GB MicroSD memory card.
http://www.spectec.com.tw/sdg810.htm
It's a dream because I read that it has drivers for Windows Mobile 2003 but I didn't find drivers for Windows Mobile 2005 to make it work on my HTC Universal.
I invite you to write to them that WE WANT drivers for Windows Mobile 2005!
Here is their email address: [email protected].
It sure looks great but unfortunately the SD slot for our Universal is located at the bottom.
Also, this device requires the slot to be SDIO capable but I doubt our Universal's slot is. I hope I am wrong though
News: Spected released drivers for WM2005!

True...

I hope it too
Here is pic of Spectec mini GPS in Jasjar
http://www.geardiary.com/?p=1894
I very interested in it too, but from picture it seems to still protrude pretty considerably. Fear I might snap it. Found some on ebay for around $150, so might get one and see how I fair.
sdg 810
it does not function on jarjar or qtek 9000
somebody has you it in driver for the jarjar
ummm?
didnt think it did either. mobileplanet even specifically states it does not work with HTC PDA's. but wondered/assumed from picture in the link it was operational and not just visual. well, so much for that. probably was a bad idea anyhow. probably should go with BT GPS, but I hate idea of having so many things to charge....BT mono headphones, BT stereo headphones, BT gps, BT keyboard, and the PPC....be nice to have "BT charging technology"....wouldnt that be something.
navicon?
dunno if you guys already read about (navicon), just found out about it on couple posts from early last year. i gonna look into this as gps solution. anyhow, just wanted to share.
Tested this product, but it doesn't work on every PDA with SDIO slot and WM5.0 I tried it with.
Installed the driver, but both the GPS and the card slot refuse to do anything.
The MicroSD (tried several) won't show in the file system, as it prompts for formatting after inserting in the iPAQ hx4700. When I press OK, nothing happens and the card won't show up in the Explorer as well.
The GPS shows up in the GPS list in TomTom Navigator 5 and 6, but when I select it, the program keeps looking for a fix, without success, even after 1 hour.
I tried lots and lots of SDIO devices, but none of them seem to work. It might be a faulty sample I received from Spectec, but until that isn't sure, I say: damn what a 'pain product'.
It may be al late respond, but it works on my hx4700 as a GPS, installed with WM 6.1, only the card reader doesn't. Fast fix and with clear sky 10 satelites. It even receives indoor if you are close enough through a window.
Tomtom 6 has difficulties, but miomap 3.2, IGO 2008 work just fine.
You have to install GPS tweak first, to find the com port. It's com 6, bautrate 38400.
Swaped the SDIO for the Bluetooth model
Spectec was surprizingly helpful when I contacted them about the lack of compatibility with models the GSP SDIO was supposed to be compatible with. They gave me the Bluetooth version which worked with my ipaq 1910 and am now testing with my HTC universal. Theorectically it would work with any BT PDA even without a SD slot.... that is if you could figure out someway to power the thing.
I don't even have a Universal and even I know that it is SDIO compliant... :S
And now???
So, I've got here my NEW Qtek 9000 ready to swich from WM5 to WM6.1 ROM.
Is there anybody can say Spectec SDG-10 is finally WORKING now? (seeing satellites and reading maps on the enbedded microSD)
Spectec-sdg 813
I have a SPECTEC SDG-813 which I have tried with my Wizard (Cingular 8125) and a laptop. I have found that it does not work well with either device. It aquires satellites runs for about 30 seconds then locks up. Which than requires a reboot and repairing with BT.
So it has been very frustrating and SPECTEC support has been very poor. Their inital response to my request for help advised me how to set the device up under BT. I had to resend the message and point out to them that the device is setup and aquiring satellites and then locking up.
I have been waiting to see if there will be any further advice.
In order to fix my buggered wifi problem I purchased a 'G' sdio wifi card from spectec. I thought I would post my experience.
The card does work! It has good speed (perhaps fitting the 'g' rating, but I am not sure) and EXCELLENT range (compared to my old Dell CF wifi card in my Axim X5 anyway).
The only problem with it is that if the unit powers off or if you remove the card, you must soft-reset to gain access to the wlan driver again. The card will power up and flash, but there will be no connection... in fact the WIFI utility will not even open until you soft reset. All I do is run WIFIfofum and keep the card alive all the time.
BTW, if you use POCKETLAN with this, you can map a folder on a file share and pretend it is your missing SD storage card. Works quite nicely.... My plan is to buy a BLUONYX (when the come out) and use it as a massive SD Card replacement.

wow you must really need wifi to make you buy a separate one...
but the problem with the wlan driver losing access when you power off the device or after turning it off is actually ROM dependent....
thanks for the info anyway regarding the card
Yeah. It seems to have something to do with keeping the driver alive and getting confused with the built in driver when it is time to revive it. Often WIFI comes back in the 'on board' form. I have been toying with the idea of just swapping the names of the drivers in the registry...
WIFIFOFUM2 does a pretty good job (if I remember to start it). The only drawback is battery power is lost.. (you cannot remove the card, even with it running).
I don't how anyone can live without WIFI on these things... there are just so many uses for it...
Skype... web surfing... syncronising podcasts directly...a whole host of lan services...vnc... windows terminal services...
I do a lot of support work now at home... I just carry my VNC or WTS connection around with me instead of being tied to a desktop/laptop... it's great!
i forgot to mention that it does not work in wm6. i tried. the driver locks up on install.
Really? I didn't realize that was an SDIO slot. Thanks for letting me know, the wifi on my uni is dead too, and i was thinking about buying a new phone. hehe
Is it Spectec SDW-821 SD WiFi Card 802.11b/g ?
I find black one (http://www.mobileplanet.com/p.aspx?i=132725) and blue one(http://www.buygpsnow.com/spectec-sd...821-sdio-wireless-lan-retail-package-613.aspx) in internet , does it make any difference?
I found blue one is always cheaper than black one while searching internet.
I'm palning to buy one since my O2 XDA EXEC WiFi has poor reception,. and I need to get better option.
It says Transfer data rates is up to 54Mbps at 802.11g, so I'm hoping I get faster speed, and range.
Any updates on this?

I have an Qtek 2020 with PPC 2003 (ROM v1.75.103) on it and I just bought a Spectec SDW 821 b/g WiFi Card. It seems as if I can connect to my WLAN (it says 'connected' in the Settings menu) but when I for example start Pocket Internet Explorer I cannot surf the internet, because it says there is no connection??? When I then want to configure the connection I only cannot choose WLAN...
Any idea?

It's a ROM related problem. I'm currently running c_shekhar's 6.1.1b version with a Spectec 820 b WiFi card without problems. See the c_shekhar's Himalaya (Qtek 2020) ROM forum here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=369701
The 'b' version is not available anymore and some people complain about the 'c' version with the Spectec card, but try it out first. Maybe c_shekhar can send you the 'b' version to you personally.
Thanks for your reply. I hoped it could get it working without the scary flashing thing (). I will think about it...

hi,
I answered myself for the previous message, the problem is that, with an integrated USB bridge facade of my tour, deploiment of packadge did not take place as required,
morality: Always check your USB connection is directly connected to a USB port.
otherwise, everything works very well, no incompatibility, or problems, great!
Registry trick to fix WIFI
This is a trick to fix my O2EXEC. The internal WIFI died, so I bought a SPECTEC 11G SDIO wifi card. It works with WM6, however when you power off the machine the wifi stops working. You have to reset with the wifi card in to get it to work again. I suspected that it might be a problem with the old driver for the built in wifi....
I got a registry editor (REGEDITCE c1.2) and found all the references to TIACXWLN.DLL and changed it to point to WLAN11G.DLL
goto
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
then
COMM
then
TIACXWLN
edit
IMAGEPATH
to say WLAN11G.DLL
then do the same on
TIACXWLN1
I have not tested too much, but initially it seems to survive a power down and a card replacement.
I have been testing for a few days now and it is working great. a few seconds after inserting the car, it connects.... and even shows the icon (which was previously there only when the built in wifi was on)

Where can I buy products from this company ?
thank you
I was wondering if anyone would have any information on modifying the AyToBe GPS Device i recently purchased. It runs WinCE 4.2 Core and runs all its 'GPS' software from an SD card from what I can tell.
I have read in some places that people have successfully put TomTom6 onto the device, via the SD card and it works fine.
I was wandering if there was any possibility to take this further and try loading more 'PDA' type programs onto it to give it more functionality.
The specs are as follows:
ay to be ATB083
Product Number: 607L01792
3.5" LCD touch screen
GPS built in
SD Slot
Mini USB interface
Ir-DA with remote
Thanks in advance to anyone that can help me out.
