WHAT IS THE BEST TOOL FOR UNLOCKING ONE OF THESE AND IS IT EASY.
CAN I SCRUB THE 02 STUFF ON IT AND LOAD TMOBILE SYSTEM IF SO HOW WOULD THIS BE A ROM UPGRADE?
WHAT ELSE SHOULD I DO TO IT TO MAKE IT BETTER THAN OUT THE BOX?
MANY THANKS

Firstly, Hello - I'm moving from aC500 to an M2000 and so am after some pointers - apologies if some issues have been covered but I couldnt find the results in a search:
1. Whats the best way of network unlocking the device from Orange to O2? I've obtained "xdadev_all_unlock-v1.6_138.exe" which appears will do the job, but I'm a little uncertain due to all the variants.
[EDIT] http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=24779 -seems to answer my question.
2. What are the must have apps? (pref. free ones?) - any worthwhile tweaks?
3. Any positive comments about the M2000 from previous C500 users? - some of the complaint threads on here are making me start to think I might miss the C500!
4. Is there a ROM of choice at the moment - I know there are a lot of threads on ROMS so I do apologise for the repeated question - however there seem to be numerous variants and I havent a clue where to start!
Thanks and feel free to shout and curse at me if my queries have been answered elsewhere!
I look forward to being able to contribute!
Paul
I don't know if this has been asked but yes i want to know exactly what are the benefits of rooting the EVO since it has 2.2 now and so it sounds interesting and i want to try it but i want to know what i will get out of it
Also, if i root will i be able to use the HTC widgets on LauncherPro
And i saw on this article that u can tether? like use the hotspot? but would it still charge me or would it be free
What are ROMs and why would i use them?.
If so which ROMs are recommended
This has been addressed too many times. Read the forums. Search the forums. Grow a pair and go for it. Determine the benefits for yourself and stop asking everyone to do it for you when the info is so readily available.
Fail.

AFTER following that thread, after using the search button on the top right hand of the screen, if you still have questions about rooting, please feel free to ask a "specific" question.
The "benefits of rooting" cannot simply be answered in one small post. There are dozens and dozens of threads already about this, not to mention full sites dedicated to rooting and why do it.
Don't mean to flame, but if you want to get anything, you do have to do a little ground work yourself.
Guys, if you don't have something constructive to say, then keep it yourselves or report the post.

Hi i'm Drie and i wanted to introduce myself and say i find most of the information here helpful and useful. I am very interested in rooting my phone and I must say that a lot of you have some great ideal but they are not working for me. I know there are some SUPER TECHS on this sight that may want to entertain a new user by giving her a step by step manual (rooting for dummies) on how to root an HTC EVO 4g.
Ive read thread and watch lots of videos and still my phone is not rooted.... HELP
Drie
Welcome to the site; it's a great place.
From what I have found is, it is easier to do things by reading directions; I never get things done in the videos.
Oh and a big problem for a lot of people; when downloading and putting the update or bootloader zipped folders onto the phone, only name them root or update or whatever, leave out the .zip part; that messed me up and I was clueless for an hour or so.
rooting
when i say that i tried to root the phone, that means i made an attempted at it, but since i know nothing about rooting a phone every word seems foreign to me. I need instuctions from the very beginning.
Welcome to the forum.
There is a good guide HERE and another HERE.
The first one does a good job of explaining the terminology.
Hi. I'm Ed.
Just hijacking this thread to say hi too. Been browsing xda for nearly a year now using it to upgrade and root my desire. Just found out I need 10 posts before I can ask technical questions. Oh well, 9 to go.
Thanks for all the sound advice I've found on here. And it shows its a decent forum if I haven't needed to ask a question in nearly a year.

So, I'm not the only one trying to build my post level so I can ask stuff?

so asking in the Q&A we don't get dev help? or do ya'll mean just to ask about ROM's specifically?
I have to agree with quite a few of you here - I read threads here for about 2 to 3 weeks before ever signing up - finally I had to lol (got soo many questions) - also went to post in the development section and found out I couldn't post there - though I can't remember why I was going to post there first - maybe that was where one of the instruction threads I was reading was posted
Are you a Noob with alot of questions? MYSELF & MANY OTHERS BEG OF YOU TO READ THIS!
Hello Noobs, and welcome to the XDA Galaxy S3 US variant forums! I've been answering alot of questions in the q&a section, and many in the general section where they don't belong, regarding issues that I like to refer to as "Android Hacking 101". These questions are, but not limited to, things such as how do I root my phone, what is a bootloader, how do I get better battery life and maximum performance and make my gs3 the greatest most wonderful thing on earth that everyone will be jealous of? (I made that last one up, but you get the idea, lol) I was a noob not so long ago, and I still have lots of questions, but I've learned how to walk that fine line of asking a question without making anyone want to shoot me, and also how to effectively search. I have a website to share with you all and you'll find it in the link below. The website is galaxys3root.com founded by user zedomax and he has tons of sites specific to several phones! He's an amazing guy who has tons of knowledge that he's kind enough to share with the world. On his Site you'll find both written & video tutorials where he will personally walk you through the rooting process, installing a custom recovery image(cwm), and installing a rom! He will also review some of the top roms for each gs3 variant and describe the features of the rom in detail. His sites are a great way for beginners to not only get their phones rooted, hacked, & with custom Rom, but to actually learn what exactly all of these processes are. I will also leave a link to his Site androidroot.org, where you'll find a plethora of other Android hacking videos that will provide you with tips and information regarding android development, and he's also quite entertaining. Please check out both of these sites, and I promise you'll learn a few things if all of this is new to you! Please remember to thank zedomax if you see him here on the XDA forums. I answer most any questions for beginners politely and I try to be as helpful as I can by sharing anything that I understand enough to share. I'm far from an advanced user, but I'm an avid reader and I soak in as much as I possibly can here on XDA. If you are new and you have any questions after you check out zedomax's sites, then please feel free to PM me & if I can't help you then I'll at least get you pointed in the direction of a thread or someone that can. I did not make this post to bust anyone's balls, like I said I'm no pro & I had all the same questions not too long ago, but I've been seeing a lot of these questions floating around and I've been including these links in all of my answers so I thought I would just make a post with the links as opposed to answering the same questions over & over. Good luck to all of you, and enjoy your new device!
Sincerely,

Great thread! I will probably also be hanging around here answering some questions so feel free to ask!
Hello and Merry Christmas,
Is there currently any downside to rooting and unlocking the LGOG?
I assume it will void warranty and is not undoable. I heard it messed up some peoples network connection?
I have best buy warranty... If i needed to take my phone in for repair would they care if rooted or not?
Thanks

Please learn and love the search section of.this wonderful site. All your questions u listed in a Thread are already answered elsewhere. Yes there are ALWAYS inherit risks when you do anything to your phone . There also awesome good things that can happen learn, read, and then if you don't understand ask a question in the place where it is already been asked if you can. I did the same.thing and someone told me.this very thing. Good luck and Merry Christmas and happy new.year. message me if u have trouble.searching. hint.....development section.

Not only did you not answer my question, but you did not even help guide me toward an answer. I'm looking around thee "dev section" (which one? there are two?) and I don't see answers to my questions. The search function on this site is horrible.
The purpose of the Q&A section is to ask questions and receive answers.
What is your problem?
BTW: I ended up rooting/unlocking and it was very simple. I do not think there is any downside at this time.
