Polish gps coverage ?? - JASJAR, XDA Exec, MDA Pro Accessories

Am driving from England (skegness) to Poland (katowice) for the new year , what's the best idiot proof gps mapping software package to buy + gps receiver for that part of the world ?, to be used on the mda pro ?
After reading this forum it seems these 2 are the best:
Leadtek GPS 9553X Bluetooth GPS Receiver
and
Globalsat BT338
Thanks in advance.

probably the most popular sofware in Poland is automapa http://www.automapa.com.pl/

GPS Receiver

All,
I am in the market for a GPS receiver for my T-Mobile MDAIII and have narrowed it down to two devices the Holux GPSlim 236 and GlobalSat BT338. Can anyone recommend which one I should go for?
Also I have a Bluetooth headset kit that I would like to use to receive calls while the MDA is using TOM TOM 5 with the GPS receiver is this possible?
Thanks in advance
Msuk
I have an Hollux 230, and I have had absolutely no problems with it (that are because of the unit, and not because of something else).

I too am in the market for a bluetooth GPS and have the very same choice to make. I have seen a guy on ebay from taiwan selling the Holux one for 99 euros + 20 euros shipping which works out about 82 pounds. I presume that your going to use it as sat nav in car(as opposed to the courtyside), if so, then what PDA mount do you have/are you going to get??
To answer your question about using the gps and the headset at the same time. I did read on these forums that if you upgrade to WM5 then the new bluetooth stack allows you to do this. I'm not sure if you can under Wm2003.
Thanks

XDA EXEC with a Road angel GPS?

Can this be done and if so what would I need?
I have a Roadangel (older black version) and wondered if it could be used with my EXEC when it comes on tueday  as a GPS receiver?
If I'm honest I want GPS (tom tom etc) the cheapest way possible.
I did this with my Jornada 928, and it worked well. Although at the end the Road Angel Classic was taking very long to ever get a satellite fix - like 50-miles around the M25 motorway! Have since got the Origin b2, but decided not to buy the extra £50 cradle for GPS output.
For the o2 Exec/Universal you'll need a serial to mini-USB cable - think I saw one on o2's web-site - but might also need a converter at the serial end to match the RA's output pins/connector. If you're stuck, PM me and I'll see if I can find the RA's pin-out diagram.
O2 Mini Exec S + Road Angel Connection
HI there, I have an O2 miniExec S and New Road Angel, would it be possible to use New Road Angel as GPS receiver for Tom tom on my O2 mini? And would I still be able to use the camera detection function simultaneously during the connection with o2 mini exec?
Many thanks

Mda Compact III

Can someone tell me if the T-Mobile MDA Compact III is wi-fi.
I notice from other forums which state that this version is not wi-fi enabled
Shouldn't be too difficult to edit the registry settings.
Buzz, Maimach We need you, Help !!!
Doesn't look like it, it isn't mentioned in the manual.

The HTC p3300 has Wi-Fi standard onboard. Local telecom providers however, are able to choose if they want features like Wi-Fi enabled or disabled. T-mobile Germany decided to sell the MDA Compact III with WiFi disabled (maybe to boost the GPRS usage?). T-mobile The Netherlands decided to let the Wi-Fi feature enabled.
I have a dutch T-mobile MDA Compact III, Model nr. ARTE110, that has WiFi enabled. Bought it btw for EUR 209,- + 15,75 monthly fee, which makes EUR 398,- in total .
Maybe the WiFi feature can be enabled/disabled by tweaking the registry or using another ROM?
And does anyone have suggestions how to unlock it?
hi rjs_artemis,
can you give a link to a website where you bought it? is this offer also available for non netherlands residents? I am living in Belgium so that I might go to Maastricht and check that wisely
Greets
EDIT: Btw is the t-mobile in the neths in Dutch or English? regards
EDIT2: is it locked on t-mobile or unlocked?

I bought it at the T-mobile Online Shop, see here
other option is http://www.smartphonestunts.nl/index.php?tid=181
And yes it has a Dutch WM5 and it is locked.
As mentionned on the following link https://www.t-mobile.nl/persoonlijk...ab=Relax&ratePlanId=269&contractPeriodId=1030
the price of the phone shall be 239.95€ with a 15.75€ flex t-mobile abonnement and not 209,- like you mentionned. Therefore the total price reaches 428.95€ and not 398,-, reason why I asked you where you bought it.
Anyway price is still attractive but if you tell me the device is locked on t-mob neth, it doesn't worth one penny for my own.
Regards
btw for the old fellahs in here, do you know if pdaphones might be phisically unlocked like mobiles? I think it could be done but need confo
would be a nice opportunity then
T-Mobile MDA III
I had a reply from T-Mobile UK yesterday saying the UK release will not have Wifi.
However I read that the Wifi is all on board on the main Chip
Texas Instruments OMAP 850
http://pdadb.net/index.php?m=cpu&id=a850
If thats the case then would another ROM not re-enable it?
Or do you recon it's a custom Hardware?
I'd like to stay with T-Mobile for Web'n'Walk but If i cant have the Wifi I'll go elsewhere
O2 I think is due to release the Orbit 27th Nov.
Might wait for that as I assume the package will be better that the ones Expansys is offering on O2 or vodafone with an HTC branded unit.

We are both right. T-mobile raised their prices for the MDA Compact III at the Online Shop. I ordered it last friday (03-11) for 209,-. On tuesday they raised prices with 30,95, so now it's 239,95 with a 15,75 contract.
Unlocking will be possible very soon. For example see this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/archive/index.php/t-282156.html
aye sounds promising
I'll wait before buying until I have some confo about that..
still the question of keef related to the wifi is really interesting... if any has made some tests on an uk or dutch t-mobile version..
T-Mobile Mda Compact 3
Ref Wi-Fi embedded in chip !!
Hi Guys
I have tried to perform a rom update on my Mda Compact 3 using the HTC P3300 latest rom but the compact was having none of it.
It appears to 'drop out' after 3 per cent stating 'incorrect device'.
This is not the usual "incorrect vendor id" so I guess updating with a wi-fi enabled rom is not possible
Why have T-Mobile skimped on this essential feature is beyond me !!!

Quote from that link
"All-rounder
The MDA Compact III is a fantastic all-rounder. It’s a dedicated navigation PDA with GPS and TomTom Navigator 6 software preinstalled. It runs on the powerful Windows 5.0 operating system. The Compact III is very user friendly as it has a mouse. Control the cursor with the miniature trackball and use its silver dial as a scroll wheel. Keeping up with your emails is simple and you can surf the internet with web‘n’walk. It has128 MB of internal memory and a microSD card slot for expansion, plus a two mega-pixel digital camera with zoom, flash LED and video capture, an MP3 player, FM radio, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and USB cable connectivity."

Source for USA Maps that work with TT6 on the Artemis?

OK, TomTom on the Artemis is really getting the best of me. I downloaded my one free USA map that comes with the device. I liked what I saw, so I decided to purchase another USA regional map from TomTom's site. The description said that you needed Navigator 5 or 6 for the map to work.
Long story short, I can't get the built-in TomTom app to recognize my purchased map (Plains USA). I've moved it around to different directories on my 1 GB microSD with no luck anywhere.
I've emailed TomTom support three times in the past week with no response. Anyone else in the USA getting TomTom to work beyond the one free map?
I have had the 'North America' map working with TT6. Sounds like you may have a TT5 map.
I did the same thing and did speak to customer service at TomTom. The download maps do not work with the Artemis version of the software. I was told that I would have to buy the full version for the US which comes with all US/Canada maps. On a good note, they did refund my purchase price for the non-functioning maps.
I think that TomTom 6 can recognize TomTom 5 maps but TT 5 cannot seem to recognize TT 6 maps. I have TT 5 installed from the factory on my HP 6915 and I have TT 6 added on as an upgrade. My full US map for TT6 shows in TT6, as does the TT5 map of Chicago, but in TT5 the only one that shows is the map of Chicago.
I just went ahead and got the North America map so I wouldn't have to mess around with individual cities and ending up off of the map.

Any good GPS software for india

Is there any good gps software for india, which will work on artemis.
Thanks
Mapking is good.
Hi,
I am using mapking which works good on selected indian cities such as New Delhi, Bombay, Bangalore, Chennai...... It costs about Rs. 2K per city map but worth paying as it as a good voice guidance help too.
