I have both a UK and US rz1710 with english roms right here - if anyone can find me an EASY step by step guide on how to dump the rom to SD using MTTY etc I'll gladly try it but I cannot be bothered going looking for a method as I am lazy
Richard
i've extracted the italian rom from my ipaq. it's the italian version 1.00.7 with osimagetool from xda. it works ok! i want a english version to write on my ipaq.it's very simple install xda tools select source device memory (current rom) and destination xxxx.nb1 and then press copy button.connect the ipaq first and start activesync.don't need to start in bootloader mode.
I would be SO freakin' glad if I could get this rom!
It's a matter of life and death
yeah, me too... :?

Well my post asked for an 'easy step by step method' as I have no time to investigate this. You type out a method and provide links to the software I'd and I'll do it but I'm not googling for half arsed methods that don't work...
Richard
Hi guys!
I tried downloading XDATools as it seemed to be a 'one click' ROM dumper, but the link in the WiKi is broken (got error 500) and I didn't find it on the FTP.
If you can provide me with a working download location for this app or another similarly simple method of dumping the ROM I will gladly dump my iPaq ROM for you. (see ROM version in my sig)
ftp://xda:[email protected]/BlueAngel/Tools , and there is xdatools.exe
Thx for helping
Have someone managed to change the 1710 ROM? I'm also looking for an method to do this. vflad wrote that he dumped his ROM. But what's the way to flash the dumped ROM on another IPAQ? Thanks in advance!
I have 2 Ipaqs (both 1710) and want to swap the ROM. I've already tried the "old" method which worked for older Ipaqs (Hyperterminal and SD Card). Therefore I bought an RS232 cable and modified it. I can see the boot messages in Hyperterminal after enabling the bootloader on the RZ1710 but I can't make any commands...
Sorry for my bad english
I've tried the method with OSImageTool. The ROM was dumped successfully. But now I'm at the point I mentioned in my last post.
I can't write back the dumped image to the 1710 ROM
OSImageTool just opens the patched MDA ugrade utility and this utility is saying that something is wrong. I think that this utility won't work on the IPAQ because it was written for an totally different PDA...
After this I tried the method with an SD Card and romupdate.exe (Multi-Port/USB TTY). After enabling the bootloader I can connect to the RZ1710. But I can not make any command. This utility is just hanging after pressing enter or any other key... (it's just like using my rs232 cable and connecting by hyperterminal).
But it's 100% connected to the 1710 and you can see some messages like "<CE-31>".
What's the problem with this device? I'm sitting for many many hours and I'm at the same point. I can't flash back the dumped file
Please help!!
Someone can post a rom for RZ1710 in Italian or at least in English, I need to change the rom to my IPAQ
Ivp
And in french ?
Is there a french rom in download ?
I also need the ipaq rz1710 english or dutch ROM
Hi guys, have you found the ROM in the mean time? I am also searching it.
My cousin wants to plan the building of his house on it, but he has a spanish version. (received from his spanish father in law).
Regards,
Bert
I have found an English ROM version for the RZ1710.
The only problem is that i get an "language incorrect! update cannot continu" error
Does anyone know how to bypass the language control???
Wow I see a lot of people are having trouble with their 1710. It sucks that HP didn't release the ROMs for this device, that would have saved all of us a lot of trouble.
I have this device in Spanish and I want it in English. Does anyone know what would happen if I tried installing the ROMs for a different device, say the iPAQ rx3100 (which almost looks like the 1710)? Would it accept the new ROM or would it turn this device into a mildly expensive paperweight?

Installing the ENGLISH rom on a device with a different language
=================================================================
The iPAQ Update Utility checks the language of your iPAQ against
language of the rom image and if they do not match, it refuses
to continue. To force the rom to install on a non-English device:
1. Identify the language of your device. The iPAQ uses one of these
three-letter codes for language:
ENG
GER
FRA
SPA
PTB
ITA
KOR
JPN
CHS
CHT
2. You will need to edit these two files using a hex-editor.
> iPAQPCSDK.dll
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Go to address C644 and change ENG to one of the three-letter
codes above.
> RUUClientDriver.dll
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Go to address E0FC and change ENG to one of the three-letter
codes above.
3. Run hpRUU.exe and hopefully the rom installation will now
proceed.

Worked like a charm and able to upgrade the ROM.
Have used Hex-Workshop for editing the ROM file.
In French

Another thing
Sorry for the bothering but the section for beginners and the getting started is not yet functional, and I really don't want to destroy my S200 .
Another small question - what is the difference between ROM and Radio ROM ?
radiorom is embedded software for the gsm phone part of the device
and normal rom is the opratingsystem
So ...
So If my problem is That the OS is in french and I want to change it to English I need to change only the normal ROM ??
Thanks again !!
yeah the language is located in the normal os rom
but i sugest you read a bit in
http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=293
as there are times when radio and os rom only works or works best if they are the versions shipped together

choosa a ROM with WWE - world wide english
for the rest, try the Wiki
Ok, not sure what to do with that answer but thanks for posting.
Another question then. I have a french diamond, My friend has a dutch one. If I would download the official HTC Rom upgrade from the HTC site and use the Serial of my friends Dutch Diamond, would I be able to download the dutch version and install it on my french version?
you obviously have alot of reading to do ..
You can flash your diamond to any language, if you want english get WWE
No need to download the official rom from HTC.. but then again.. perhaps safer for you if you did
My uncle from taiwan just gave me his asus p535, but my chinese is really bad... so i cant really use it
can anyone give me EXTREMELY DETAILED instructions on how to change my language from chinese to english? thank you for your time
Ok the completly detailed part isn't really my thing, but overall i can guide you a bit...
You'll need Asus.UnlockLangID.exe you can easily find it... Run it on your P535, then you can flash any custom/original Rom in any language...
Most roms provide a guide to help flashing, but it's basicly having the Rom file on the root of the SDCard and pressing Camera+Power+VoiceComand and Reset button.
A nice updated rom is for example: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=508315 (Thanks stouph/lesscro)
(Attention the one above it's Windows Mobile 6.5.1 based, but after you ran Asusunlocklangid you can flash any rom including oficial ones in other languages)
how exactly do i flash a rom?
and does anyone have a standard english rom for U.S.A.?
