All,
Ive been following several forums for the past couple of weeks, and this is defineitley the most helpful and informative on the XDA2S.
That siad, Im a noobie, so it doesnt all sink in straight away.
im on an 02 contract (locked -another story trying to get unlocked and one on which I'll keep you posted). Im seeing several posts which indiacte a rom upgrade would be useful to dispose of all the 02 customisation and improve performance - is there any truth in this, and if so, which ROM is the latest stable version, and where can I obtain it.
Secondly, I'd like to set up several email accounts, so I can synch with several PC's, including my corporate pc - is there a simple way to do this with profiles - the XDA user manual is thick, but very basic.
Finally, does anybody have a sim replicator for the XDA2S, and can they comment on its usefuleness. Im on 02 for personal calls, and Vodafone for corporate (and heavy email/internet usage), and woudl therefor benefit from the capability to change providers without ripping the battery out each time.
Many thanks in advance for your help and advice.

if eskimofisherman has an XDAiiS or blueangel, as he says.
not the unlock nor the romupgrade of zairyaab can be used.

Good Money To Anyone Who Can Sort Me Out
Hi I also have an XDAIIs with a PAY As You Go SIM, My Corporate network is Orange. I have been trying to get it unlock but no avail. Is someone working on an Unlock Tool? If so if someone could let me know that would be great.
I in the meantime I have been trying to connect to my Nokia6310 (Corporate Phone) via bluetooth to Browse the web and sync E-mail over orange GPRS. But unlike my HP4100 I don't get a connect to phone over bluetooth option. Within Bluetooth Manager. Are there some missing files? I am assuming o2 don't add it to the OS so that you don't browse using another network. Any help you be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Paul
I can confirm its an O2 XDA 2S, aka blue angel. Ive tried calling O2 several times, explaining I want to use both networks, but they wont be budged.
Its now my personal mission to get the handset unlocked - and to distribute as wide and far as possible once completed.
XDA2s Unlock Question.
Hi,
does the xda manipulator program not work on the 2s??
xda Manipulator only works on XDA 1 and even then not always
I have been sent a link from O2 Data Support for downloading the new XDA2s ROM upgrade, which apparently will fix the Bluetooth problems.
The link is...
http://www.sourceo2.com/O2_Developers/Devices/O2_Xda_II/XdaIIs_launchROM.htm
Haven't done anything with it yet, but thought you guys might like to know...
regards,
Guy
Hmm I wonder if I can use this update on my O2 Xda2s.
I got it in Malasyia.
Noel
I installed it on my UK XDA 2s, I will report back later.
In the PDF it's saying that this version is only for devices sold by O² UK or O² Ireland... Not sure if I should give it a go on my version..
Noel
I think I might wait and see what others say about this before I install it myself. So many that have it already say it is great but then you hear others say it has caused problems.
That post is the launch rom, not an upgrade. LMAO It is intended for people who attempt to flash the XDA IIs with a different vendors rom and screw it up.
Mike
Nope, its not, click the link. O2 are obviously just too lazy to create a new page for a new rom!
Nigel
HAHA you are correct!!! LMAO oh well.
Hi..have installed the update..and have encountered several problems...was wondering if anyone could help me.
I hate the fact that the clock has disappeared from the top right so whe u are using applications its no longer visible. Is there any way of bring it back?
Also now when you click the o2 at the top it dosn't give the active connections anymore. Therefore whats the quickest way to disconnect the gprs? and is there any way of bringing that back to how it used to be?
I have also had to reset my phone more often that I had to before.
Was wondering if anyone had encountered the same problems and how to resolve them.
Thanks so much...
Bit the bullet and upgraded last night, wifi still works and as I use Corporate mode I don't get any issues with 02 active, icons or clocks. All seems normal, so far!
Have to agree with Dave. I finally bit the bullet and installed the update last night. Don't like the new O2 active and put the clock straight back with the registry key.
Other than the missing clock and poor O2 Active software which I never use anyway no real problems. Tom Tom still works fine with my Bluetooth GPS receiver. WIFI still works fine with WPA security and everything locked down on the access point.
Still receive SMS notification and its nice that you're not limited to 70 char when using ' in sms text messages now!
All ok.
har5ha:
Just get the old O2 active back. To to this, head to the xda-dev FTP site, find the old O2 XDA IIs extended rom, pull it, find the file install.ARM.CAB (O2 active)
Sync/backup yr stuff then hard reset the XDA IIs, and let it do its stuff. When leave it to install the extended rom, but be ready to soft reset it when you get asked the 'corporate/personal' question (you'll have to watch the screen since there is a timeout). Once it reboots, copy install.ARM.CAB to the machine, and execute it. It will soft reset yr device at the end.
I use 2 things from O2 active, the battery plugin and the O2 icon to kill connections. Shame billy did not think to include a disconnect dialogue as well really (he put on in for vpn).
There might be a way to install old over new, dunno. I tried and it locks loads of files (even if you prevent it from loading).
Nigel
thanks Nigel...I ended up installing gb soft for the disconnect button.
So its ok...still getting loads of crashing. I think am going to reinstall it and then use corporate mode..hopefully it will crash less!
can I get an update on xda iis rom update
Hi all, I'm still new to this whole thing but reading and researching all I can. Don't have an xda iis as of yet, but on the high streets waiting list. I like the phone and in one way, can't wait, but don't want problems when I get it, especially at the price. Can anyone on o2 that has purchased their phone from o2 let me know how you are getting on...problems...ect, before and after the update.? To be honest, I'm a bit afraid to bite the bullet and get one right now due to what I'm hearing...especially since I'm not very computer smart. I do understand that it depends a lot on the manufacturer of the phone but if I had problems like I'm hearing about it would really do my head in...(no patience). Thanks
Well I love my phone to bits...had issues with the update but now that I have hard reset it and put it corporate mode its not freezing anymore.
But you have to remember its a pocket pc...like a pc..will need to be reset every so often...I was resetting mine of average once a day. It just takes a minute.
There are some negative points..but the positive outweighs the negative I think. My old pda was palm os (clie) and this is windows which is really good! As well as the fact that it has a phone built in too!
Hi all.
Can you please post some more feedback on this rom.
How is the BT stability?
Range?
Crackling noise?
License Expired troubbles?
I know its Build 3500, but maybe something else in this rom makes a difference.
How about the problem with sound dissapering when you answer a call.
Any troubbles here? This is really a pain in the (_!_)
Running the New Rom for a couple of days now and it seems much better than the launch Rom, The O2 active stuff is just as pants as usual so remove that and the "Connections" exe from Windows\startup.
Best thing is that it's stopped the annoying bug of the GPRS settings being screwed up when you enable/disable Wi-Fi.
Recommend it myself

Anybody knows the password for this rom
PDA2K Upgrade
Hi, Can this rom replace the i mate rom on the 2K.& If so will it then be sim locked to O2? as I want to use an O2 pay as you go, & T-mobile sim
many thanks in advance............
I saw a post on here about the progs in the windows/startup folder. Someone mentioned that removing the "connections" executable file had made their XDA more stable. It seems to be the exe that places the O2 icon on the task bar at the top of the screen.
I tried just that...moved the file out of startup to a temp backup folder and did a soft reset.
That was a couple of days ago and I haven't had to reset since Previously I was having to reset 3 or 4 times a day just through very light use!
Thanks for the suggestion Wilesd
Hmm not sure what .exe you are talking about in the windows\StartUp folder.
All I have there are:
Code:
aPerSaveStark.lnk
Camera_Detect.lnk
CheckAutoRun.lnk
ChgDfLnk.lnk
cPerSaveStar.lnk
IA_Caller_ID.lnk
nPerSaveStar.lnk
O2 Connect.lnk
poutlook.lnk
RegNotify.exe
Run_BTTrayCE_10.lnk
Spb GPRS Notify.lnk
STK.lnk
tPerSaveStar.lnk
As you can see.. The only .exe I have is the RegNotify.exe.
The closest that I get to O2 is the O2 Connect.lnk shortcut..
Is that the one you moved?
I don't have the "02 Connect" link in my startup. The file I moved was called "Connections". I can't see on my pda what the file extension is so I don't know if it was a .lnk or a .exe. The mention in the previous post I got the info from was that it was an executable though.
THIS is the post I saw it in.
Maybe it's a country specific thing ?
After all the crashing I was getting with the 1.31 ROM and O2 Active which I never used I decided to do the Corporate install that does not put on the O2 Active rubbish. My phone has not crashed since before I was getting at least 4-5 lockups a day!
Glad I could help, anyway I had to hard reset mine after i installed some dodgy camera upgrade Cab file so decided to give the "Corporate" option ago this time, just select Corporate during the Boot up and type 0506 when it asks for a corporate code.
No looking back now, basically you get a clean WM2003SE install without ANY O2 rubbish but all the GPRS configs etc.. intact. I have not had to do a single reset since.
Recommend this method to any fed up with the O2 active stuff screwing up your IIs. I can honestly say I can't fault the device now.
Thanks for the info guys.
I been holding back from doing the ROM update on my XDAIIs due to everyone saying they have to keep sot reseting their device.
I've just removed the connections.exe from startup folder on my existing setup - make sure i'm happy to carry on without the O2 icon at the top.
Will let you know how I get on.
Thanks again.
Great I shall try this tomorrow.
I've been getting regular crashes on my XDA 2s since I upgraded to the latest ROM.
D
Thanks, removed the O2 connections as suggested 2 days ago and have not needed to reset since.
Was having to reset 2 or 3 times a day since I'd upgraded.
difference between corporate and personal
Whats the difference between corporate and personal mode?
Corporate mode basically doesnt install O2 Active at all so you're left with the default windows screen (presumably so you could customise with your own corporate guff)

Thanks and what do you mean "0506" as corporate code?
thanks ...yellow screen?
thanks guys the corp version seems to do the trick, look very stable now. who need o2 crap. however i can't fail that notice that the screen is slightly yellow from certain angles. it look whitish when you are right in front of it but from any other angle it looks yellowish...anyone else with similar screens? don't remember this to be the case with my previous trusted xda 2...it's a nice device though...
yanni
It seems to be a thing with the latest XDA2 "s" and "i" models as it didn't happen on the original XDA2. I did read that the original had Sony screens but the newer ones are made by someone else.
Regardless of this minor inconvenience, I do think the new screens are much brighter that the previous ones...Just my opinion of course

increase brightness levels
yes they are brighter indeed...also, the xda2s by default reduces the light of the screen to conserve power when used on a battery...if you fix this the yellowish feel goes almost away...why can't they get their sceens right, same probs with bloody apple products, don't they understand that their screen are the most important interface with their devices...

connections.exe in start up
I removed the connections as advised in my XDA IIs and yes it did improve the stability, but after several days I found that even though the PDA was working well the phone would not work properly, either the phone would lock or it would not dial out, or you would answer a call but the caller could not be heard. On two occasions my blue tooth connection was lost. though this only happened on the first day. This was solved by a soft reset. So I have come to the conclusion that yes connections is the trigger but also it dose serve some purpose. I am therefore going to use the corporate mode which seems to be a common solution on many forum topic subjects. I hope this feedback helps others.
I have only just got an XDA2s & noticed that I was resetting 5 or more times per day. I have now removed connections.exe from the startup folder and also removed all references to O2 Active from the Today program and the Start Menus
I'll post results in a few days

I tried corporate mode with removed connections.exe and installed beta of the new today screen.
I have noticed an issue with losing connections too, and your comment about not hearing caller reminds me that happened to me but I thought nothing of it at the time.
I have noticed a bit of a pattern to the not dialling out issue
Basically if the phone loses all connection for a while (not sure how long) then it seems to not get it back when you get to an area you can receive. A soft reset sorts this out.
But this is highly annoying for me, I live in London and go to work on the underground (subway to you yanks) and when I come out if I forget to reset my BA it will not receive calls or dial out.
XDA IIs Stability
What ROM version or versions are you all using?
I'm also having to reset my XDA a couple of times of day and would like to improve on the stability of the device. I've looked in my \Windows\startup and have various links (one is O2 Connect) and two executables (CommLoader.exe and RegNotify.exe).
Also, when I have had to do a hard re-set I have never gotten the option of 'Corporate or Personal'. Probably because of different ROM versions.
Also have any of you experienced problems with the Bluetooth no starting because of low memory on a regular basis?
Do any of you have an O2 XDA IIs from Asia?
Thanks
No resets in 3 days now I've removed connections.exe & stop using O2 Active UI Not using corporate mode though - I'm not brave enough yet to try upgrading my ROM
Hi all, well, i have the newest version of the o2 rom installed on my xda2s that i downloaded from o2 website. now my first question is this,
1) can i downgrade to a previous operating system and if yes, then how and where can i download it, if not then i need help with the following....
2) after a hard reset or a clean install with the new rom, after the o2 active stuff has installed, my xda2s seems to crash all the time, now i noticed it too much 2 weeks after i got it, and sent it to the o2 shop for them to have a look at it, and didnt get it back for a few weeks... NOT A GOOD START.. i got it back and had an older version of windows 2003 second edition installed, so it looked like they just wiped it and put an earlier(more stable) version back on.... now i decided to take a chance and tried the windows mobile 2005 but no luck, so had to download and install from o2.co.uk
and now im back to square 1. crashes 5-6 times a day
3) also relating to the above, if i hard reset or clean install, before o2 active stuff is installed, i have a digital clock in the corner of my screen top right, after o2 active install its gone, i cant get it back, Any ideas how to solve this, its doing my head in as i like to look at the time on it....
i tried the hard reset and switch off before anything installs and also the corporate option too, i couldnt connect to internet and also couldnt send text doing that, and i do actually like the o2 stuff...... i edont use o2 active, but like the battery plugin and the o2 themes and phone skin.
is there another way round this or am i just buggered beyond help????
at least if i can download any previous versions of the o2 version o2 windows mobile 2003 2nd edition, that would be great!!!
anyway chaps, please help
take care guys.....
joey.

Mine was just the same until I removed all the O2 crap, can't even remember the last time I had to even soft reset but guessing at least a month!
Trick is to put machine into Corporate mode after doing a hard reset (use 0506 when asked for code) you will then get a clean WM2003SE install with NO O2 rubbish. You still even get the O2 GPRS/MMS settings etc..
Worked for me and several others on here

i could quite be an odd FM then, cos this i tried after reading and trying things i see in these forums, this forum is by far the best i found an i plan on staying, I even work for o2 and they can even be bothered to help me
i tried clean install by removing battery before any crap is installed, this worked but no settings, i tried corporate mode, no joy, also in corporate mode my mms and txt and gprs settings were there, but would not connect, so im back to the full whack, with o2 active, I have to admit, i like the o2 active and all the skins and stuff, so id like not to loose them, i tried corporate all day yesterday and noticed that my battery lasted twice as long. so maybe corporate is the best option i dunno, but i really wanna get to a previous version and try that, so ...........

ps, if im honest, it was ok until i tried to install windows mobile 2005,
my own fault!
I'll try to keep it short.
Lost T-Mobile PDA. Bought an unlocked (I assume) AT&T SX56 off EBay.
Will not Active sync. Don't know why.
SIM will not register. Also asks for 4-8 char password which I do not have.
Phone recognizes T-Mobile Signal, but ignores SIM. Says emergency calls are possible, but I do not want to call 911 to check.
Lots of XDA software is already installed and operating.
So for those are the main issues. Hope this is the right area to post.
Looked around for answers for a couple of hours, with no luck.
Any suggestions?
Ummm As far as i know the xda's software blocks anything but O2 simcards.
I think the answer is to wipe the Xda's data, and install a non-branded verson of windows mobile '03.
I'm sure theres one on this forum somewhere, or someone will know where to get one.
Have you tried unlocking your device? Look here...
