Hi,
I already asked this on the buzzdev forum while xda-dev was down, but since noone has answered yet over there, I'll post it here as well.
Here goes (I'll copy-&-paste it).
A useful feature in Pocket Outlook is that when you write the first letters of the recipients name in the "To" field, you immediately get a short list with the people in your address book that correspond to those letters. It's a much more convenient way than tapping the address book icon and looking up your recipient.
However, today I noticed this function didn't work anymore!
Upon further investigation I found that it did work with the standard input methods, but not with Calligrapher 8, which I just upgraded from 7.5 yesterday. The "check names" function doesn't work either when I'm using the Calligrapher input method. Has anybody else noticed this? Does anybody know of a way to repair it?
Another thing I want to ask is if anyone knows of a (safe) way to make Pocket Outlook store all your e-mail messages on a storage card. The only potentially useful thing I found on the forum was a patch for the Motorola Mpx, but the link is dead.
I found this method somewhere else:
HKCU\Software\Microsoft\MAPI
"AttachPath"=string:"Storage Card\Mail\Attachments"
"PropertyPath"=string:"Storage Card\mail"
Create a folder in the root of your SD Card called "Mail"
and another one in "Mail" called "Attachments"
Do a soft reset.
Click to collapse
Has anyone tried it? Does it make Outlook move all your existing messages to the storage card, or only new ones?
Thanks in advance!!
PS. Man I was panicking when this forum was down. Imagine never being able to visit here anymore!

Hello. I've checked the previous pages and didn't see anyone having the same question. That probably means i am the only one so dumb in here)))
Basically, last night i was playing with overclocking my XDA Orbit being insured that all the contacts are syncronized. At some point (273MHz) the device stopped responding so i had to soft reset it. Later i found that nothing got lost BUT my contact list with all the numbers. Next, I open Outlook and see that none of them were saved there. WTF is ActiveSync is doing then? And another problem is that i cannot use backup of my old WM2003 contact list because there is no such option as Backup/Restore in WM6. Any ideas? Please,HELP. I really need those numbers back...

The contacts in the Orbit are gone...
The contacts in the Outlook not sync'ed hence they too gone...
Cannot import 2003 backup into WM6 - different structure
Option 1 - if you have old outlook backup - you can re-import into new outlook file and they re-sync again
Option 2 - Manually enter all the numbers you remember
Option 3 - Nothing
Basically the fact is if you cannot see the contacts in the fone - they are gone! If you cannot see in outlook they are gone - only option is to get from another source!
You mentioned 2003 backup - what did you take the backup with? Maybe you can still read using the same software and try to retrieve the number - or use another 2003 model to import into it
The backup was taken using Backup/Restore feature of WM2003. But I really wonder now, WHY Microsoft decided not to include this option in WM6? If anything happens, you're properly f****d, like me now.
BTW, WM2003 Contact list backup can be accessed with Notepad, but the data looks a bit messy that way.

Am not in the same situation...was letting you know your options....
Good luck with the retrieval...
don't take it personally, i meant "You" in general
I analyzed the chain of events and it seems like i found the root of the problem. It's was nothing to do with overclocking or the device itself. Its ActiveSync. As I usually don't use Outlook, the contact list there was always empty. And this blessed child of Microsoft instead of copying contacts from XDA to Outlook did it other way round thus erasing everything on the phone. Don't know what to do, laugh or cry, but it's so... so... ridicilous!
Thanx for your help anyway, much appreciated
I have two small questions. Hopefully they are eay to answer though I have had no luck so far finding if the answers are here.
1) In the mail / sms app the left soft key is "delete", can this be changed to "new" as it was in wm5 ?
2) In the nice new HTML email mode I get my emails fine, but the images don't download in the mail. Is it possible to stop each mail promopting and for it just to happen ?
May not be ROM specific but just in case, I am using Schap's WM6 Pro 4.31.
Thanks for reading
Dave
hi Dave, firstly, no you cannot change the button back. Well not that i know of. Annoying.
Secondly, i assume you are connecting to an msexchange 2007 server so that you are actually viewing the mail in html, a lot of people made the mistake of assuming that wm6 would give them html email through their existing ex2003 server.
I am guessing though that the images in the emails are being seen as attachments and are therefore not downloaded until you say so. Maybe you should tick the box to download attachments automatically and limit the size of them to something sensible. Probly dont want to try this unless you have a decent data plan.
Hi,
Thats a shame. I keep deleteing my message when trying to send new ones !
Actually I am not using any server for my mail. I am collecting directly from my ISP using pop3. The message contains a little notification bar just like IE would saying that I should click it download the images.
Someone I know who has this ROM said that there was a reg key i could change and it would do it all automatically.
Cheers for the response.
Hi dmj1973,
I have done quite a bit of Google research on the pocket Outlook issue of not automatically downloading pictures, and there doesn't appear to be a solution. I myself have switched to qmail and no longer have that problem.
Hey, my boss and I just got the Rhodium and I am in charge of setting everything up to his wishes. However, we seemed to have run into something strange: the email on his phone seems to be hidden or deleted after a certain amount of days.
He is connecting using IMAP and all the mail is still on the server, but this morning his phone seemed to have hidden/deleted all mail from 3 days ago and before.
I can't find anything relating to these settings in the phone, can anyone help me with this problem?
You will need to alter the settings which can/should be found as:
Go to the email screen where you would read your mail. While there go through the following options:
Menu -> Tools -> Options -> [select the required account] -> send recieve schedule
From there the option is available in a drop down menu.
Hope that will work.
they aren't hidden, but deleted. But it's just a copy. the idea is that you don't need all the emails, only the recent on on your phone. it could (if you work with a lot of attachments) fill your memmory.
But waht music art1st said, you can said you want the email from the past 3 weeks or some other period.
Thanks a lot, I managed to find the settings now. I was a bit confused because the phone is in Dutch and I am only really used to running all my OS's in English so things were a bit difficult to find.
What you said worked perfectly though!
i had the same problem, and the solution was changing my configuration to IMAP not POP
emails
may be some one had this problem as well:
When you receive an Outlook e-mail message that was sent by using a russian version of Windows mobile, the name that appears in the From field may not appear correctly.
Email is ik, i read all and topick appears ok, but person name and address are shows like lots of letters: "njdnfjdnjfnd" if i press on it them it will show me the address.
On TP1 i didnt have this problem. but in TP2 i have it and i dont know how to fix it.
Thank you for help in advance.
When linked to my Exchange server. It's strange though, since my Htc Hero has no issues whatsoever with this. I can begin to type any name in the To: field and it start suggesting receivers. Now with the Desire, I get no name completion/suggestions whatsoever. It does however work in the recipient fields in for example the SMS application.
Anybody else experience this?
Running 2.1-update1 as is.
Thanks in advance.
Hi jivebunny,
Mine suggests names just fine (from history usage or from my contacts). What is does not do is to suggest names from the full corporate directory (this could take a lot of network/time if you have a big corporate directory). If you want to do that, click the little person icon next to the "to:" list and you can search your corporate directory.
John
Hi John,
Thanks for the reply, this is what I also found, yet how do you control these settings? I've synced my contacts onto the phone through activesync (or does it not work like that anymore?), yet it will suggest nothing when it comes to emails. If I indeed press the little contactperson I get corporate contacts as base, and clicking that again leads to device contacts. Is there a way to change the default setting for that?
I'd rather it not search through the corporate list, since it's big and slow indeed.
I searched and tried a lot of things, but no option found for this.
Thanks again!
I have had this problem with both Energy ROM and MightyROM.
When I create a new email and start typing in the "To" field, if I pause for a second, which seems to let the phone go looking for addresses/contacts matching the first letter I typed, the email program crashes.
The only way I can send new emails is if the addressee is in my Contact list.
Anyway to fix this?
If you post a question in Energy ROM thread, you should get answer, well, instantly.

Or the thread will get sidetracked with another problem
Just tried "Plutonium_CHT VIDEO BY D/\SH".
Same issue.
Works fine for me on EnergyROM. I wonder if your Contacts list is damaged, I bet it doesn't happen if you flash a ROM and then don't restore your Contacts.
Since this is the ROM Development forum, I suggest that you either re-post this on the General forum, or post in the thread for one of the ROMs you have tried this on, preferably the one you're actually running now so that you can see if others have the issue.
Tried about 3 more ROMs and they all had the same problem but I narrowed down the problem to be related to one of my contacts.
I use GMail. When I was in college I made a single contact for my whole class' email list. This means I had one contact with about 18 email addresses in the "Email" field of the contact information. This works great for sending out mass emails to the whole class.
Apparently this would cause Outlook mobile to crash when it went looking for matching contacts/email addresses when typing in the "To" field.
I never encountered this before on my last phone. I'm guessing that was because it didn't autocomplete the address field.
I removed that contact from my list and Outlook doesn't crash anymore. I guess I'll just have to find somewhere else to store my old email list.
Moved as not ROM Development.
