I was curious if anybody had tried to use the camera module from an Audiovox 6600 in a Siemens SX66.
From what I can tell the Siemens SX66 has all of the connectors already but it just has a piece of plastic in place of the camera module.
Anybody out there who has successfully plugged a camera module in a Siemens SX66?
I did it! I've got a XDAIII from German, It's like Siemens because It lacks camera, so I bought both camera and back plastic cover from an ebay seller, I disassembled my XDAIII and I put the camera on it. It works great!!

I have spent hours searching all over the net/ebay and cannot find anything about adding a camera to an XDAIII. Did you buy this camera from someone that has many of them or was it the only one for sale. I would like to do this if it's possible.
What i found was an auction for the back plastic cover of SPV M2000, the same seller out the ebay network sold me the camera and other parts too.

I think I have found someone that can get these sx66 cameras and the backplate with the hole. I have one of each ordered (45$ with shipping from UK.) Once I have tried it out I will post the info so others can buy them.
ebay other BA models
I have found a bunch of Sprint and Verizon PPC-6600/6601 xv6600
on ebay that have the camera but a damages screen or whatever for around $40 - $60 depending on the model plus shipping. Im going to be tearing mine apart at somepoint then i might not be craving a Universal anymore or an EXEC
mine should be here by monday so i can play next week.
If only the BT worked in wm5 for a2dp. maybe 1.4tuma will be out soon
dont hold out... tell us what you've found....

Will do.
Honestly, I wouldnt bother with it. The blueangel camera is pretty bad. Indoor shots dont even bother unless you have super lighting...
BA Camera Mod Ebay info
All i did was search for the Audiovox PPC-6600 or vx6600
PPC-6600 is from Sprint
vx6600 is from verizon
my total cost on the unit was $54 including fedex it will be here next week.
My EBay Supplier is EBay Store "Sundaysseconds"
They have lots of the vx6600's
and in bulk they have 50 ppc-6600's for about $1500 they have individual listings as well. They like paypal, but my stupid bank is a bunch of jackoffs and wont do the paypal verification process, so i had to call my order in.

The seller sold me the camera part, so if you want it, u have just to ask!
for only 5gbp I can replace my used keyboard too (it's attached to blueangel with glue  ok but if u'r patient u can do it! ) (U must do it also if you wanna change the sliding part of your blue angel ... the one that every blue angel owner hate!)
write me for any question.
Bye
Camera Update
Its kewl.
Ok My Verizon XV6600 came in yesterday so i was prompt and impatient and tore it apart , It is the same form factor but it is not a BlueAngel, its a Harrier mainly the difference between the GSM and CDMA model i think.
The Blue Angel Models did not come with a flash, the Harrier did, so if i want that to work im going to have to think of something incredibly intelligent to mod it to work, since where the power connector for the Harrier is on the Blue Angel its ascrew hole that apparently needs the screw in or it wont boot up, or something.
Ok the Camera Module Slid in perfectly to the connector and the Antannae plate from the Harrier works fine. I had to use an exacto and cut open the sim card port from the Harrier backplate to fit on the BlueAngel but it worked fine.
I will take pictures of the 2 units side by side and let you know how it works and the differences.

'Fuzzy_bunny'   ?
I don't have any new rear covers at the moment, but do have the camera modules for £20 plus shipping ( £2 UK, £5 ROW) and I'll include a used rear plastic cover with the hole in it for free.
Richard.
Ok, I received the camera and back today. Installed both. Curretly I am running 1.40.125 precooked ROM from the SX66 standardization project. Is it possible to get the camera working with this ROM? If not what options do I have.
If you add the camera files to the 1.40.125 extrom and modify config.txt accordingly, it should work. You could probably figure it out by comparing the SX66 project ROM to a similar PDA2K version from the FTP site.
SX66 Camera
I just had to boot it up after i installed the camera, it installed on its own...

Were you using the standard Cingular ROM that came with the phone?
I just recently bought a used Blue Angel for my Cingular provider.
Let me just say, with this site I am in love with this device. It's the best phone I've ever owned.
One downfall though, this version does not include the camera.
I know other models include the camera, and I expect it's probably just a add-on peripheral and that my phone probably has the port for the camera addon already(Or I can solder one
What I'm asking is, has anybody tried this?
Also I would like to know where I could buy the replacement case/body for it if I can add a camera(my used case is pretty banged up)
I think that your best chance is to swap the case and camera with someone who doesn't use it. Personally I would trow away my camera if I could have that black case of XDA IIs in exchange for it.
Ah crap, it's hard enough finding sellers for cases.
Sellers for cameras? >.<
I'm willing to pay up to 30$ USD for the camera addon for the blue angel though, if all else I'd dremel a hole in my phone >.> <.<
I've done this several times...it is FAR, FAR easier than one might think! A 13/64" hole in the right location, the software off the ftp, and bingo! I actually used the dremel tool on the PPC-6600 case to remove the high edges of the casing so it would fit nicely over the SX66 board. Then I drilled a hole where I thought the camera would be. Now I can see the camera through the back of the casing. After that I just measured from the edge of the little rubber stopper to the center of the camera, and from the edge where the battery fits to the center of the camera. I marked those dimensions onto the SX66 casing and carefully drilled the hole. Ended up with a nice round hole, in the approximately right place (maybe a 0.5mm off center), that didn't interfere with the camera. And oh yes, the camera came out of the PPC-6600! Only problem is the SX66 does NOT have the leads for the flash...but the SX66 comes with the necessary bracket for the camera! Or you could just buy the MDA casing that has the nice camera hole...if you can find one!
I don't care about the flash.
I just need a place to get the camera addon dude.
That's the real kicker.
What in the bloody hell, can a mod get rid of these advertisers please?
Hi, I'm looking for a camera to fit my Blue Angel as well.
I have 2 units, a Cingular's Siemens and a Tmobile MDA I bought in ebay. The MDA had the LCD broke, so I recovered the camera and used in the Siemens that I actually use.
So, did you find anyone who sells the camera?
Thank you
I need a camera too....
Camera, Camera, whos got the Camera?
I have several for sale. Each comes with the necessary driver and template for making the hole, detailed instructions, and I throw in a torx driver. This 1.2 MP is a no flash version, and as BioChaz stated it wouldn't work on the SX66 any how. Contact me if you are interested. $58 per camera set shipped to anywhere in the US I can walk without getting my feet wet. They are listed on eBay along with my moded SX-66 camera phones.

Hi, I'm from Portugal and I have an O2 Orbit and I need a new housing cover, but since the O2 isn't on sale in Portugal I was wondering if it is possible to use an HTC P3300 cover instead??? Anyone tried this already???
I might be able to help.
is the cover your after for the battery.. if so pm me and i can send you one out. its an old one i had from my old uk 02 Orbit. Im not sure if the p3300 will fit. maybe some one else can help you, but I dont mind sending it out ya,it's just sat here doing nothing, its is a little worn on the silver bits but better than nothing
mavisdavis - Actually I was thinking about the whole cover, battery front and back, but in fact the worst part is the battery cover... If you say you have a battery cover that you don't use and it isn't any trouble to you to send it to me, I'll sure be thankful!!! I'll pay for the ports of course... If so PM me, ok???
Nevertheless my question remains, is it possible to use a P3300 cover in a O2 Orbit???
Thanks in advance
Hugo Costa
The answer to your question is YES, the P3300 housing does fit the xda Orbit, I had one on mine, I still have it and can sell it to you ?
Again thank you very much for your reply, Think I'll be trying one then...
Jester01 - Also thank you very much for your offer but I think the postal costs will be too high to make it worth sending the cover from UK to Portugal...
Nevertheless PM me with your offer, we never know...
Regards

Can't imagine postage to be that much, as these are very light, I would accept £30.00 gbp for it, it is in very good condition and I will include 3 stili as they are different to the orbit one's.

How can you that? XDA Orbit have a locker for the Battery cover, and the p3300 doesnt have, so the extUSB is not in the same position

Sorry to say, but it's the same mother board, so check before you post !
And I've had a p3300 oem HTC housing on my orbit for the past few months, yes you are correct with the battery lock, but that's an addition 02 have added.
does it work vise-versa too? will a xda orbit housing fit with no-hassle on a p3300??
thanx

Couldn't say for definate, but logic states it should as I said I have an Orbit, and used a p3300 housing on it, so there is no reason why it shouldn't work the other way round.
You are just using the components inside and none of the phones original plastics, i.e. you only swap the motherboard, lcd, vibration motor, front earpiece and rear speaker.
You have to also use a different stilus, as they are shaped on the end different.
Hope this helps.

Case: Artemis vs XDA Orbit
As far as I see from this picture and my Artemis in my hand cases seem to be fully exchangeable... Anyone knows for sure?

Jester01: Thank You pal! Now I would buy XDA's one, 'cause I like it better ^^
I tried fitting the p3300 housing (bought from ebay) on my o2 xda and i couldn't do it, i don't know how but it just wouldn't fit and i could see the housing was bulging unnaturally in various places. I got a replacement xda housing set which fit perfectly.
the version i bought from ebay didn't have the side buttons and there are various bits in the back plate - speaker, vibrate device etc which you need to remember to take out and put in the new one.
also, i seem to be getting very poor reception now, i don't know if this is because i've changed the rom (tried oops, touch 4.02 and rolled back the radio version) or perhaps I damaged the antenna somehow by changing the housing?? - anyone with experience?
thanks.

May I ask how much did you pay for that new housing?
For your question, I "guess" that because the housing doesn't fit perfectly, the antenna parts (a metal plate that stick with the body part of the housing) are not attached well to the connector of the phone board. So the signal would be bad.
I said "guess", because I have an experience like this before with my Siemens M55
Oh, one more question which I need to know a lot. Does the front plate (not the battery cover or antenna cover - which of course I knew it's made of plastic) made of Aluminum or plastic?

Thanks, I'll open it up and take a look at the connections - maybe the screws need a bit more tightening.
They both cost around £25 and it's all made of plastic - painted plastic although the XDA case is certainly better quality than the htc design.
I still have the HTC housing which is 'as new'. I'll sell it for £20 if anyone's interested.
How to open the XDA Orbit
Hi,
I would like to change the housing of my XDA Orbit too. But I only found disassembly instructions for HTC P3300 and this instructions did not work. I cant remove the plastic part which covers the gps, gsm and wlan antenna.
Can someone give me a hint or provide disassembly instructions.
Kind regards,

I did find some instructions by googling, I think the trick is to peel off the rear part by levering the stylus in it's port.
I know it looks silly, but im a nerd and a gadgeteer, and i almost want the thing just so my family and friends can lol at me when i break it out. But really, has anyone tried this? If so, how was it? I just might drop $15 on it to see.

wow, that is actually not bad at all for a $15 lens. Thanks for the comment
It looks a little....goofy. I came across one a while back, though for iPhone, I would assume it would work.

Hi,
I can't believe that a phone so expensive does so cheap photos (really bad ones). Do you have any ideas why is it like that? I will sell it in few days just because of this (If I want to compare it with LG G3, LG is a perfect DSLR comparing with this ).
Few examples:
Check out cleaning off the coating on the lens cover. It causes micro scratches that make photos look hazy and foggy. Most use alcohol and qtips. Check out videos on YouTube for it as well.
someone didnt do their homework before spending so much money on a phone.
The M8 wasnt exactly known as a top of the line camera phone.
gustav30 has an excellent idea. Also make sure to remove any protective coverings, its a new phone so it should have those.
Theres also lots of settings to be able to change to make pics look better.
ok, let me be clear : I have smartphone since QTEK S100 and motorola MPX200, so I know very good what means a smartphone in all ways. I am aware about that protection coverins IAmSixNine (have been removed since 1st day), and even if I've done my homework, it's not possible to do photos like Nokia N70 (macro, or other settings are excellent, but as you can see a normal photo is really really poor).
gustav30 I will try to clean it out with alcohol tonight (that was my 1st thing which I had in mind, other than selling this phone).
I know that I shouldn't have DSLR expectations but I didn't thought that an 500£ phone will do photos like 30£ one .
Just clean lens...
