When I shut my device off it disconnects GPRS, I want it to leave it on all the time unless I disconnect it, because I want to sign on AIM, and be able to shut it off in my pocket and if someone IMs me it will make a sound like usual.... Anyone got any ideas? I know its something with the registry.
If you have SPB Pocket Plus, you can use "toogle screen" to switch off the LCD screen to save battery, while applications and GPRS connection would still be running.
When you press the power button, you are actually putting the device to stand by, hence AIM and etc. would not stay connected.

How do you turn off GPRS when it's turned on? On the original XDA, you click the icon in the header bar and it gave you disconnect option, the 2s doesn't have that option.
I miss the same thing : possibility to stop GPRS from the same place you started it...
The only easy way I know is to keep the red phone hardware button pressed for some time. It eventually does disconnect GPRS.
Hope this helps.
Goto wireless manager, and press on the GPRS icon, which turns it off
killing GPRS
If you click on the Phone Icon....you can go into "Flight Mode" and this kills GPRS.

You can also press the end call button (red button) for some seconds. GPRS connection will be droped.
for me, gprs shuts off on its own. How do i set it to always on ?
for example, when i check mail, it connects to GPRS just fine, once done, GPRS shuts down.
Any idea anyone ?
I have activated the advanced power feature where my xda2 will turn it off automatically after it is not used for, say, 3 minutes.
Initially my xda2 will turn itself on by an incoming call. However, after some time, my xda2 will not be able to turn on when there is incoming call. Furthermore, I noted that whenever this happen, I am unable to swith it on, even by pressing the Power button. Each time I have to perform a hard reset and that erase all the data in my xda2.
Is there anything that I could do to prevent this from happening? Right now I could only choose to turn off the backlight whenever my xda2 is not in used.
I would appreciate if someone could advise me on how to go about addressing this problem. By the way, I have upgraded my ROM version to 2.06.00WWE.
My PDA2k seems to be turning itself off even when in use :?
I use TomTom3 in the car, and even when the power is plugged into the bottom it was turning off ever few minutes.
I just took a phone call and when I has finished talking I noticed the screen had gone blank and pressing the red handset didn't bring it back, the power button did. (I do have screen lock on).
Having said that, thinking about it, I was watching TV progs on WMP on the way home and it never shut itself off once :?:
Anyone have any idea what is going on? Is this normal?
I have an o2 XDA2 S running TomTom 3 with the TomTom cradle. I occassionally find that the pda just turns itself off.
It doesn't happen all the time.
I have also found that sometimes during a call the pda turns itself off and I cant get it back on by pressing the handset key, just the on off button.
Cheers

click start>settings>system>backlight . . in here you can change the time it takes to turn off in not touched the device, 5 mins max.... also if you click button lock in system settings, you can set it so that when it happens, you can tap screen and it comes back on again.... tho i prefer to keep that off, otherwise it may ring people while it its protective case..
and going by all the software that is out for these xda's, you can prob find a programe /or hack to change it even longer if you need that!!!
But when it is on external power (plugged into the car using TT3), it shouldn't shut down at all. Aside that, when in use (when receiving a call) I wouldn't think it should shut down should it?
I have a seperate scren lock installed too. I found the built in one not enough. When it is in my belt pouch and I get a text, or connect to my BT car kit or something, it wakes it up. All of a sudden all the keys are being pressed (by the squeeze of the case) and all kinds of applications are opening!
I find my TP2 screen keeps turning on and it's really annoying. I am not sure what al is causing it to turn on, but my best guess is that alerts (agenda or system notifications) and push email is causing the screen to go from off to on.
This drains battery and causes unpredictable operations when the thing is in my holster, since various parts of the touch screen are randomly pressed. If the screen would just stay off when I turn it off - until I turn it on again - I would be a lot happier camper.
How can I convince the phone that when I turn the screen off with the power button on the top that I really mean it, and I don't want it to turn on again until I tell it to?
before hitting power button, lock the device.
Locking the device appears to shut off communications. Not what I'm looking for. I just want the screen off, nothing else.
Locking the phone does not shut off data or voice communication
Locking the phone does not shut off incoming data or voice communication
i inherited a tilt 2 that i am using withut a sim card. just wifi, and primarily as a skype phone at home.
works ok with skype, but how do i get wifi to stay on with screen off? everytime i kill the screen with the power button, wifi turns off.
and, even with power settings arranged for screen to go off (both on batt and ac power), the screen never goes black on its own... i have to push power button.
im up for changing roms too... so if u have any advice, all i need is wifi and skype to work. period.
here ya go, fixes wifi stand by issue.
thanks. download and installed... seems to have done the trick.
