Im running the original rom version, 1.31.00 WWE, Radio Ver. 1.06.00, Protocol Ver. 1337.38, ExtROM Ver. 1.31.139 WWE on my XDA11s. I'm not bothered much about Blackberry (cos i dont really know much about it), so if everythings running ok on my pda is it really worth doing the upgrade? Any comments appreciated, thanx.
If it ain't broke - why fix it
I find it really amazing that out of the 83 views to my topic that there has been one reply, and that wasn't really much help to my enquiery, but can i thank you for taking the time to reply anyway. So i take it that none of the 83 viewers have bothered updating with he official software then??!!
Well, I did it and am kind of regretting it a bit now.
GPRS via Mobile Web seems a bit odd - managed to get my POP3 mail setup OK, but i'll be damned if I can get IE to work - always comes up with Page not Found dialogue box... never used to do this before.
Anyone got any ideas?
SW seems a bit faster, but until I can sort out this IE issue, I am not going to get too excited ... need my IE on the move!

My WM5 is slow even though I applied all the patches , I wish it was smooth like a nice babies bottom lol. WM5 also drains my battery faster, I have downgraded and upgraded 4 times so far and I am too lazy to go back to 1.40.00WM2003SE ROM, give me some advice!
upload the blackberry installation CAB
can anyone upload the blackberry cab that comes with this ext ROM here?
that all I need from this upgrade...
Cheers
I have been so fed up with my XDA11s running slowly since I bought it. I have done all the upgrades, even WM2005 and still it was crap so I have ordered an Exec to see if that is any better. Anyway, out of bordom, I decided to downgrade the 11s back to 2003. did this and still slow, then I noticed the new upgrade so I thought what the hell and installed it.
I have never seen my 11s run so fast! even when I installed all my usual apps it flies. strangely the BT seems to be working fine as well (I gave up on that a long time ago). I have even blown the dust off my BT headset and have started using it again. Makes me think I should'nt have bothered ordering the Exec!
I have also noticed a new Blackberry icon in setting > System. dont use it myself, but I notice a lot of people moaning for it.

I have been sent a link from O2 Data Support for downloading the new XDA2s ROM upgrade, which apparently will fix the Bluetooth problems.
The link is...
http://www.sourceo2.com/O2_Developers/Devices/O2_Xda_II/XdaIIs_launchROM.htm
Haven't done anything with it yet, but thought you guys might like to know...

Hmm I wonder if I can use this update on my O2 Xda2s.
I got it in Malasyia.
Noel
I installed it on my UK XDA 2s, I will report back later.
In the PDF it's saying that this version is only for devices sold by O² UK or O² Ireland... Not sure if I should give it a go on my version..
Noel
I think I might wait and see what others say about this before I install it myself. So many that have it already say it is great but then you hear others say it has caused problems.
That post is the launch rom, not an upgrade. LMAO It is intended for people who attempt to flash the XDA IIs with a different vendors rom and screw it up.
Mike
Nope, its not, click the link. O2 are obviously just too lazy to create a new page for a new rom!
Nigel
HAHA you are correct!!! LMAO oh well.
Hi..have installed the update..and have encountered several problems...was wondering if anyone could help me.
I hate the fact that the clock has disappeared from the top right so whe u are using applications its no longer visible. Is there any way of bring it back?
Also now when you click the o2 at the top it dosn't give the active connections anymore. Therefore whats the quickest way to disconnect the gprs? and is there any way of bringing that back to how it used to be?
I have also had to reset my phone more often that I had to before.
Was wondering if anyone had encountered the same problems and how to resolve them.
Thanks so much...
Bit the bullet and upgraded last night, wifi still works and as I use Corporate mode I don't get any issues with 02 active, icons or clocks. All seems normal, so far!
Have to agree with Dave. I finally bit the bullet and installed the update last night. Don't like the new O2 active and put the clock straight back with the registry key.
Other than the missing clock and poor O2 Active software which I never use anyway no real problems. Tom Tom still works fine with my Bluetooth GPS receiver. WIFI still works fine with WPA security and everything locked down on the access point.
Still receive SMS notification and its nice that you're not limited to 70 char when using ' in sms text messages now!
All ok.
har5ha:
Just get the old O2 active back. To to this, head to the xda-dev FTP site, find the old O2 XDA IIs extended rom, pull it, find the file install.ARM.CAB (O2 active)
Sync/backup yr stuff then hard reset the XDA IIs, and let it do its stuff. When leave it to install the extended rom, but be ready to soft reset it when you get asked the 'corporate/personal' question (you'll have to watch the screen since there is a timeout). Once it reboots, copy install.ARM.CAB to the machine, and execute it. It will soft reset yr device at the end.
I use 2 things from O2 active, the battery plugin and the O2 icon to kill connections. Shame billy did not think to include a disconnect dialogue as well really (he put on in for vpn).
There might be a way to install old over new, dunno. I tried and it locks loads of files (even if you prevent it from loading).
Nigel
thanks Nigel...I ended up installing gb soft for the disconnect button.
So its ok...still getting loads of crashing. I think am going to reinstall it and then use corporate mode..hopefully it will crash less!
can I get an update on xda iis rom update
Hi all, I'm still new to this whole thing but reading and researching all I can. Don't have an xda iis as of yet, but on the high streets waiting list. I like the phone and in one way, can't wait, but don't want problems when I get it, especially at the price. Can anyone on o2 that has purchased their phone from o2 let me know how you are getting on...problems...ect, before and after the update.? To be honest, I'm a bit afraid to bite the bullet and get one right now due to what I'm hearing...especially since I'm not very computer smart. I do understand that it depends a lot on the manufacturer of the phone but if I had problems like I'm hearing about it would really do my head in...(no patience). Thanks
Well I love my phone to bits...had issues with the update but now that I have hard reset it and put it corporate mode its not freezing anymore.
But you have to remember its a pocket pc...like a pc..will need to be reset every so often...I was resetting mine of average once a day. It just takes a minute.
There are some negative points..but the positive outweighs the negative I think. My old pda was palm os (clie) and this is windows which is really good! As well as the fact that it has a phone built in too!
Hi all.
Can you please post some more feedback on this rom.
How is the BT stability?
Range?
Crackling noise?
License Expired troubbles?
I know its Build 3500, but maybe something else in this rom makes a difference.
How about the problem with sound dissapering when you answer a call.
Any troubbles here? This is really a pain in the (_!_)
Running the New Rom for a couple of days now and it seems much better than the launch Rom, The O2 active stuff is just as pants as usual so remove that and the "Connections" exe from Windows\startup.
Best thing is that it's stopped the annoying bug of the GPRS settings being screwed up when you enable/disable Wi-Fi.
Recommend it myself

Hi, Can this rom replace the i mate rom on the 2K.& If so will it then be sim locked to O2? as I want to use an O2 pay as you go, & T-mobile sim
many thanks in advance............
I've mucked around with it a bit but on earlier versions I wasn't happy with its stability. Who's actively using it these days instead of other products like Pocket Plus, and are you happy with its reliability?
I'm hoping that newer versions have better profile options without having to install it to find out (kinda like PPCProfiles Pro or PocketZenPhone).
Getting sick of the 2 reset a day thing and hoping that this can replace several other programs...
dunno never used it. for the 5 seconds i did have it on it looked cheap
i have it running on imate 1.40 rom on uk xda 2s and i think the latest version runs spot on, no probs whatsoever so far after a few weeks, i dont even reset it anymore either, but i think thats more to do with the fact i have better rom!
Thanks joey jojo
Which version do you use and where did you get it from? There seems to be several different versions lying around the place.
i'm using version 1.7, and it runs great. here it is.
Thanks Darkjedi!
Yeah, I use it instead of the crappy O2Active, or O2SlowsYourDeviceDown as I like to call it
It's great with profiles and call diverting and you'll notice if you're cooking an extended rom that it's way smaller than O2SlowsYourDeviceDown, sorry, O2Active. I think it has actually improved that speed of my device dramatically!

Do you say what O2 Active slow down the device?, I was searching why my XDA IIs freezes, I flashed it with 1.40 from i-mate and doesn't freeze anymore, but then when I installed all the programs got the problem again, I have the O2 Active installed with the 1.40 rom from i-mate, do you know if this is my problem? O2 Active? and for what is that 02 plus?
Thanks....
yes I agree, installing o2Active would be like contaminating your unit with a dreadfully decease. I ran it for 5 min and then did a hard reset, never wanting to touch for the rest of my unit's life. Who ever coded that app must have thought we were running a unit with Pentium II. I think o2Active would even slow down a windows 95 stock system.
OK, I'm trying to unistall the o2 active but I cant, it fail, and i no want to do a hard reset, what i can do?

the service is prolly in use. try to go into the startup folder and remove anything pertaining to 02. just cut and paste it in another folder or something. then you need to reset the unit. once it's up and running, go back and try to uninstall o2active.

I reistalled all in my XDA IIs because when i finally unistall 02 active i see what the cpu was allways on 70% of usage, so, i reinstalled all and add the o2 plus 1.7 and yes is GREAT, Thank You....
Has anyone got any screenshot of the 1.7? I would like to see it before installing, as I bet it a bugger to remove!
What other functions does it give you?
Here's the info on O2 Plus: http://www.seeo2.com/o2connect/template/O2Plus.vm
Thanks for that, will have a look
Trying it now.
Enables me to get rid of other software which may reduce the frequency of crashes that I'm getting.
- Profiles aren't as good as PZP (would be nice if the buttons were bigger so you didn't need a stylus when running into a meeting)... plus, not as many items to change like with PZP or PPCProfiles Pro
- Not enough tabs for programs (like SPB Pocket Plus) but pretty good nonetheless
- Not too bad overall. Anyone done any hacking/customising of it?
Actually after 2 days my level of jubilation with this has dropped somewhat.
It's SLOW! My PPC seems to have slowed down a bit in general. Also, the today screen refresh seems to occur often. In addition, switching to landscape crashes the device more often than not (although this happened pre-O2plus, just not as often).
Maybe it's because it's polling the memory and the battery? Who knows? Why is SPB Pocket Plus faster? Level of impressed-ness is dropping.
End of day - had enough of it.
Why? It slowed my BA down and doubled the number of crashes. The last straw was when it killed my call diversions for voicemail even though I had previously de-activated the call diversion options. I was only using it for profiles, not diversions.
I could actually see the screen refreshes it was doing and every time it I jumped back to today, it was painfully slow to refresh.
Thanks to all who responded, but I couldn't get it performing at an acceptable level.
Question.
If we decide to upgrade the ROM to 1.40 will it install O2active again?
Does this Rom have the O2active? or does 02active intall from the extended ROM?
What I mean to say is, when we install the new ROM and perform a hard reset, would we still get the option to install corporate mode with that code 0506 somehting?
whats the verdict?
I am currently on 1.31 and the system freezes a lot and have to soft reset a few times in the day.
I als have battery pack pro installed.
lets see how many of us BA users have upgraded to WM5 and stuck to it or reverted to the WM 2003.
i tried it and decided to stick with it as it run so well, better than 2003se to be more precise, only witht he added patches tho, all i need is mms to work and its 100% worth it.
I would love to stick with WM5 but whereas at home I have XP SP2 and Active Sync 4, I only have Windows 2000 Professional at work. Work rules my OS right now as there is where my MDA3 NEEDS to Sync..
If only WM5 would Sync when I'm at work, I'd be WM5 for sure..
Cheers!
I upgraded, liked it alot
the phone feature is great as is the persistant storage,
the patch for camera worked fine
but the bluetooth was really getting on my nerves
every time i turn the phone off the bluetooth turns off, i need the bluetooth as my speaker doesn't work properly and i rely on my bluetooth headset.
I also couldn't get my tt5 to connect to my bluetooth gps reciever no matter what i did so i reverted to back to 2003se as i found it more reliable, maybe i will upgrade again when it becomes more stable or when the widcomm driver is available for WM2005 as the microsoft drivers don't even tell you if the device has connected or not.
As for mms, don't use it so doesn't matter. it loads my fav pool game-Virtual pool mobile 1.06 and thats great,
I have to say 1 thing on the bluetooth....
when it connected to my sony erricson HBH-300 i could go further away and still hear the person although the snap and crackle was still there.
It used to take ages to connect to the headset and to disconnect after a call whereason 2003 it does it instantly.
Overall i like the OS but still too many annoying bugs, Will upgrade again as soon as it gets better!!

Yeah, i totaly agree to that. Its a great community here and at buzzdev.net. Special thanks to Buzz, maimach and all the others who have helped to upgrade our BAs succesfull. Thanks to all who kept up the hope, this would hapen, and who hung on.
Its great to be a part of this community!
I love WM5. Even if it's speed is only about 85% of WM2003SE's, still, the speed is acceptable, and i can do LOTs of stuff without touching the screen, just with the HW keys...new features are also cool. I've downgraded to WM2003SE for a few days for testing a software that does not work with WM5 (I'm a journalist...), but I miss WM5 and I'll upgrade as soon as possible.
Iv stuck with it because i havent had any problems and all my software runs prefectly.
Installed fine and stuck with it since I've had no-problems.
Good job guys!
Stickin' like glue! Now I only miss a fix for the WiFi and BT turning off when the unit is suspended. Of course a working SIM Toolkit would be nice as well, but I'm not that worried. My wife will get the 9090 in a few weeks, when the 9100 comes out, and she will never use that toolkit.
I'm sticking only because its so much more stable even though its a beta! and I have no problems with it at all its amazing!
Right now phones running fine
Running programs OK so far -
TomTom 5
Super Calendar 3.3
MS Reader
Hitchicker 0.31
Illium eWallet v4
PowerLevel.III v1.6
AirScanner Anti-virus
GPSMeter
Mtux Remote
Plus patches
Well done xda-developers
Just a reminder guys who want GPRS Monitor for WM2003/2005 you can download it @ zevink.com full version in the downloads section with the serial number, sharing is caring .
w/ the gprs monitor you can connect to gprs and monitor how much in/out you use, its very useful!
Could I please be so greedy as to have a Orange-UK only thread?
I am been reading and searching in earnest to see what other peoples experiences are with the various Radio ROMs. It seems most people are happy with 1.38.00.10, although seems to be a few instances of people sticking with older versions because of battery life/drop outs/data freezes. But I am unable to establish what other people are experiencing in the UK on Orange's network.
I am well familiar with the Radio ROM 1.38 + WM6 - good or bad? thread, but not many people in there commenting on Orange UK.
If you are on Orange UK, please can you share you experiences here?
My own experience has been thus.
Before upgrading to WM6, was on stock M3100, which had Radio 1.06 I beleive. This worked flawlessy with push email (Exch 2003), and never had any problems at all with it. This was also the case when I upgraded to LVSW 20070315, leaving Radio Rom as was.
Then I upgraded to Black 2.0 last week, and did the Radio to 1.34 with it. I didnt notice any problems at first, or rather didnt take much notice of not getting email notifications whilst at work. But on Friday I realised the Data connections were freezing.
I have tried going to 1.38.00.10, to 1.35, back to 1.06, even 1.27. Have also tried going back to LVSW 20070315, and am now on LVSW 20070408
I have narrowed it all down to the "common" problem in swicthing between GSM and 3G. At home I seem to be between 3 transmitters, and swicthing is common. Hence the problems I was having Friday.
The Excellent commmgrpro has helped here. Also Bandswitch.
Anyway, with Phone set to GSM only I have no problems. Odd thing is, driving to Sheffield and back yesterday (dont mention the football!!), with phoen set to Auto, I had no problems at all.
Yet at home, and at work, on auto the data connection freezes.
So.... Whats everyone else using on Orange?
i've been using rom 3.23.0.2 with radio 1.38.00.10 on a spv m3100. this device is been freezing like you described in your post, thing is, it's become unuseable since you have to reboot after the freeze and it happens almost continiously... driving me insane.
if anyone knows of a way how to get back wm5, i'd appreciate it!
freben
When I upgraded a while ago I was wondering the same thing. The only negatives re 1.38 at the time seemed to come from orange UK customers so I went for the 1.27 radio and it seems fine.
Have not yet stepped up further, and at the moment, see no reason to.
Especially as I can even get the H now and then. (If it aint broke...)
@Phil, I've "gone black" (v 2.0) with Radio 1.38.00.10 - only since Saturday, so it may be too early to tell. I've got a push email account with Mail2Web, which I don't tend to use that regularly - it's good for aggregating lots of mail stuff when I go away on business, but my data package ain't up to much (don't get me started ) so I only switch it on when required.
Since installing the new ROM/Radio/SPL, my M3100 seems to be much better than it was prior to the update. I've reinstalled all my apps (apart from PPCProfilesPRO - I'll do that tonight) and the phone seems really stable - no more random lockups when taking it off charge and only a couple of "slowdowns" when ending calls, or if Activesync'ing....can't really complain if I'm honest
I'll keep an eye on things - and maybe switch on the Exchange push email for a couple of days - and I'll post again if the situation changes.
Cheers,
Mark.
PS - Message for @freben; read MrVanx's guide on downgrading to WM5 - see THIS POST for details of how to find it.
MrVanx kindly provides a guide here: http://www.mrvanx.myzen.co.uk/hermes_guide/Downgrade/
Do please read very carefully before trying it
Yep...1.27 for me. No real radio problems to report.
Spent a couple of weeks with WMXL 2.0 and the last two weeks with Black 2.0. Both work fine with Orange with 3g (inc HSDPA) and voice. Direct push/web/pop email all fine.
One freeze this morning (first one in two weeks) but dont know if it was radio or os or an app?
Can;t compare with other radios but simply can say am happy with 1.27 (hence why I havent tried 1.38 etc)
Having no problems with set up in sig.
had the freezing with the stock set up.
Could/should we be more scientific here and use one of the many web2.0 survey sites to do a ROM/OS survey to find the right mix?
with a little effort we could then find the most reliable Radio ROM and view by Country/OS/carrier/etc.
just a suggestion..

@Mark,
try Orange World Browsing, 8ukp for unlimited data access 24/7
Give O a call on 150 and then the billing option, 4
Orange World Browsing is what is what the O rep told me it was listed as. I think one of the key points is the cost, it’s 6.81 exc VAT or 8 inc VAT, that’s the way to check you have the right package.
And you need to be on a 35ukp per month tarif or more to get it.
apologies for off topic post!!

My bill confirms it as Orange World Browsing -although I too thought it was OWU.
Not sure if it is still so hard to get as it once was.
Sheep_Head - Well, I am definetely up for using a survey site - any recommendations?
I gave re-flashed my phone back to Black 2.0. Seems to be what most people are using here (IMHO). Have tried Radio 1.27, 1.38.00, and right back to 1.07.
With a totally clean device (i.e. straight after flashing), setting up the orangeinternet connection manually, the thing just wont connect to 3G. Only when I have Band set to GSM will it connect.
Jeez!
I am now in the process of going back to an Orange WM5 rom, to see if it makes any difference, (albeit the Romanian one, so will have to reset the internet connection).
Getting mildly frustrated now.
OK, I'm now back to Orange Radio version, and Orange WM5 -(Romanian!)
Entered Orange Internet settings. And have gained nothing. COnnects via GSM, but not via 3G.
Grrrrrr....
Spoke to Orange CS - no reported 3G problems in my area (well, what about me???).
What's the panel's opinion on sending a phone back to O with OliPro's bootloader on it? (well, and the Romanian Rom, but they prob wouldnt spot that).
I have insurance etc, so would get a replacement in advance....

Hey guys - mega useful thread.
I 'thought' I had solved all of my woes and was feeling bloody smug with myself as I thought I had managed to keep the stupid questions down to a minimum. After reading this obviously not .
I am running Black v2.0 (happily) and the rest of the handset is as per my sig block but I have removed spb pocketbooks and replaced it with shell. I thought it was all working correctly but I am suffering the same connectivity issues as yourself (gprs and not 3G).
Also - and I have read the threads but still not working (was going to try again after a re-re-re build I still have no VM notifications.
Anything I can help with or test let me know and I will do what I can.

I have just tested the voicemail fix again since my reinstall and the certificates cab plus installing the sms dll has always worked for me.
Are you having any specific issues with it?
CrazyC,
I am struggling with the whole copying over of the .dll file in the widows directory. Like I said I have done a search of the wiki on VM notifications etc and followed the directions. I have attempted using Activesync but keep getting a response saying that the destination is in use. I have tried directly on the handset (not expecting it to work) and it doesn't and finally I tried by using Total Commander. Still no joy. I will keep going with it though as I was thinking about building again from fresh anyways, and then attempting the vm notification from clean.
Gonna wait out for black v2.5 before I do that however.
Cheers for getting back to me though!

The only way I have done this recently is using Resco File Explorer. You need to go into the Options menu to ensure you can see all files, then copy the sms_providers.dll into the \Windows directory. It warns you, but if you say yes it lets it happen. I have done this numerous times (have flashed my phone about 10 times recently!) without any problems!

Cheers for getting back to me though!

First few times I did this, it just copied OK with the file explorer. Most recently tho it gave me the same error - so I went to the zip file on my ppc and told it to extract directly to the windows folder, said yes to overwrite and it did. Maybe worth a try. (install the certs first incase it makes a difference.)
SMS Providers CAB
To make my life easier I put the sms_providers.dll from WM5 into a CAB. To install make sure you've installed the sdk certificates (http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=35814&d=1174572298) first and then install this cab - a soft reset is requested at the end of installation and is required.
I've tested this on the latest LVSW ROM and it works perfectly, hopefully will overcome peoples issues with copying this file.
I was over the moon when I heard I could load WM6 on my TyTN....
my phone is now slower than it was before.......why would this be?
battled to get active sync working again. MS Active Sync 4.5 installed Outlook 2002 but it has not serial number....where do I get this from?
I was hoping they would release GPS software for this phone but it dont like it.... Anyone know if there is GPS software available? I know about the navigate software but that's the same as having a map book or street guide.
What has your experience been after upgrading your TyTN OS to WM6?
What are the new features in WM6? To me it still looks the same in terms of functionality.....
Bless u...
but u know almost every Tytn got slower when upgraded to WM6(it's not real WM Version6 but a Second Edition of WM5). According to a developer of Microsoft in Asia Research Center, WM5SE has a memory limit which only allows 32 process in a row therefore we can see WM5SE(the so called WM6) cannot handle memory well.
That's the reason why Tytn got slower...
can i downgrade to WM5 again?
sure
downgrades are don like upgrades...
Is there any GPS software available for the HTC?
where would I get WM5 from? HTC site or google?

Not sure why your upgrade seems slower, but my upgrade from the official WM6 upgrade from the HTC site went smooth as butter and everything seems faster for me. I've also noticed that it boots up a bit faster and I don't get errors from Xpress mail upon boot ups. The only thing I did notice was that it used up a bit more memory than WM5. My bluetooth head piece connects faster/better, I don't have to soft reset nearly as often as I did with Wm5 either. The messaging program has a few new features that I like too. I actually like my Tytn now. Unfortunately, Youtube still doesn't work out of the box and requires the flash bundle upgrade and that other video player TMCMP or what ever its called.
I use SPB Mobile Shell and SPB Pocket Plus and they work flawlessly with WM6. Overall, this was the best thing to happen since I got this phone in August.

Hi,
Clearly either I have done something wrong, or there is something wrong with the phone. Is there a particular order in which this upgrade should be done?
My PDA is slow opening applications and I am battling with Active Sync 4.5
It displays an error each time and I dont know what it means. I have tried to google the error but cannot pick up anything.
I want to downgrade to WM5. Where can I download it from? I only find the SDK version of WM5. Any ideas where I can get WM5 from. I dont see it on HTC website either
Any help will do.
Thanks
I'd begin by reading Mr. Vanx's downgrade guide
You can use some registry tweaks/settings to improve responsiveness of your device if your flash goes ok. Official release ROMs are slower than cooked ROMs - so your choice also matters. For me the performance of WM6 has always been superior in comparison to WM5.
