Modify the extended ROM? - Upgrading, Modifying and Unlocking

I know about the extended ROM, big storage hack,
Can I modify a part of the extended ROM, namely delete the old files and put new ones in ? (or hack the file to put some more programs in? )
´cause I´m using Ger XDAmini - Dark Magician, and I´ve installed WWE version. Now I can´t see my Homezone Icon anymore. I think if I replace all the extended ROM of the WWE version with the Ger_o2 version, everything´ll be back to normal.

HTC-Like ROM Version

Hi guys, MANY MANY thanx 4 yours efforts to relase this beautiful roms... but:
i hope someone like me wants an "HTC like " rom
I mean if can be relased a pseudo-official ROM. I hope, 4 example, that Black version is very very useful, but i don't like the blacks settings.
Could you, WM Black, XDA live or LVSW cooker, make a CLEAN ROM (however all registry keys are useful) like an original htc rom??
Perhaps a green HTC skin/theme pack would be better?? That way you can select which ROM you want to use.....and then apply the green HTC style to it?!
With this poll i mean that with an extended rom unlocked & a STANDARD BASE Os (with extnded rom unlocked by default also 4 those haven't SUPERCID, why not), we can do everything!!!
so all we need is a great ordered post, wit all the cabs used by rom cooker's .. i've seen in the lastest rom versions that they installs other stuffs on the HR.
If you would make a good relase for ALL USERS, i hope we need a patched os like sd card registry, PIE 1-Handed Navigation registry, lastest versions of mms composer, camera, ecc ecc; however all are related to the windows Os.
Then with cab files & extended rom, we can add (or remove) all your extra stuff like additive programs & specific customizations.
Due to the storage space, i've choosen WM Black 1.2, and however i plan to re-flash it & customize the extended roms apps, removing the black skins etc, then make it green.

Black 2.5 with German O2 OEM-Package

Hey Guys!
I've got a question. Is it possible to add the german O2 OEM-Package from bepe to Black 2.5?
For example there is no HomeZone-Plugin in Black 2.5 and i can't use the german keyboard buttons. MMS doesnt works too.
Thanks for answering!
Kaimane
Hi Kaimane!
It's very easy! If you just flash Black 2.0 (and I guess 2.5 will be the same) your extended rom containing the O2 OEM-Package is still there, since JasJam's rom does not include an extended rom.
So just use HTweakC to unhide your extended rom and you'll see all the cabs from o2 there. One of them is the home plugin another one is WAP / MMS and other settings (can't remember the names but I found a description by searching for one of the filenames in google). Just start those two cabs and you're done.
The only thing this doesn't solve is the keyboard. Therefore you have to apply an additional cab you can find somewhere on this forum...
I did it myself and it works flawlessly.
Good luck,
Michael
I presume the OS itself will not be german after installing black with this method ...
Is there any known way to get a german black 2.5 rom?...
For example could i rebuild the black 2.5 image using the ROM from "WM6 ROM Kitchen" ?
Thx
Ele
Hi ele,
no, it won't be completely German. It just gives you the homezone-plugin, the operator settings and with some other tweaks german keyboard layout.
I read somewhere in other threads that it is very difficult to change the language entirely in WM6 although it was planned to make that easy by just replacing some language files. However, this doesn't seem to work. As far as I know you cannot use another ROM in a rom kitchen to just change the language.
Sorry for that, but we'll either have to take an english ROM or wait until o2 releases WM6 for trinity in May.
cheers,
Michael
o2 will release in few days a upgrade to WM6... also the homezone function will work:

WM6 "Carrierfree" ROM?

I think this the time for making the latest released roms to be clean of carrier files, so we get more of free memory and also everyone can build his own one with this rom..
so how about taking these roms and extract => dump files => delete carrier files => delete carrier registries => repack the rom files ==> we get a carrierless rom!!
so anyone with me??!
Hi,
I flashed the dopod release and directly after it has booted the first time, while this popup comes up telling one that after 3 sec it is going to install the carrier specific software, customize bla bla and so on, I did a soft reset. This way you stop it from installing. After that you can mount the extended rom, have a look at the cabs in there and manually install what you like.
This works fine and this way you get your carrierfree WM6.

thanks for reply!
what about AT&T rom? it has some carrier files in OS.nb.
also dopod rom has some CABs that are includes in OS.nb so after every hardreset you cant make choice of installing them or not because thay are in the OS.nb files.
and to delete them you have to reCock the rom and delete them!!!
My idea is to make a rom that has no little file of carrier or also a tiny registery!! not to flash it as it is!!
Those carrier files are in the extrom, not in the os.nb, aren't they?
I'll change to my other pc, dump the rom and have a look for carrier files.
Edit: Found 67 exe files in the dopod rom, but I think there are no carrier files in it.
Edit #2: Found 2 dopod files in it, dopod_black.tsk (Theme) and P_Sound_Dopod_WWE_0713.cab (Soundfiles)

Take a look at Pandora's ROM Kitchen (recent thread). It does exactly what you want: take a clean (AT&A) ROM as base and then **** the extra you want yourself...
If you don't want the whole kitchen just take the OS.nb from it (or extract the OS from the official ROM).
Normally operator specific stuff goes in the extrom (that's the real bloat). The primary customisation that starts first is OEM specific (normally) and happens from preconfig.txt in the windows directory. For instance on the official ROM it runs a program to increase the in-call volume, which is very desirable as it means you can hear people when you are in a busy situation.
well, i done littel research about the different files in both Dopod and AT&T roms and made a file list.
you can find some register files in at&t rom *.rgu anyway i think there is also some files are same in name but different in version or build. for example the dialer in dopod support video call while the one in at&t does not support video call but it support PTT.
so here is the file list i hope it help you for knowing the carrier files.

Hmm, as I wrote I installed some CABS manually afterwards directly out of the ext Rom and everything was working fine for me - but maybe in my noob way of doing so - I forgot something very important though everything worked excelllent as long I was testing it.
Nevertheless, I cooked my own rom now with the pandora kitchen - and this seems to work fine as well

Problme afther cooking

I'm plaing in cooking my ROM for trinity
I start from original DOPOD SEA wm6 ROM and merge with ORIGINAL WM6 Artemis ROM.
It's seems to work very fine, but afther change something in XIP (for update OS build and implementes big storage) it appeareads one error.
The [ok button] of phone settings don't work anymore.
If i change the XIP folder with the original one from dopod ROM the Ok button works but doesn't run the conifg.txt at startup.
How can I solve?
Sorry for my bad english.
What do you mean config.txt? Is it the one in OEMOperator right? if yes that one for install some cab after hard reset you need tha file name mxipupdate_zzPIED_101.provxml to be in your rom...
I tried to do as the same as u did but just got xip port and I got a question about merge rom.. do we have to use all sys folder from the rom we want to merge, right? and also which part in OEM folder... Just OEMDriver and OEMAPP, isn't it?

[Q]Replace/update OEM packages and other issues...

First of all I'm sorry for my english, hope you can understand me...
I'm going to cook my first ROM...
The idea is to make 2 versions (with/without manila) of a clean "uc capable" rom; what I want to do is take a 1.93 official base and update some oem app and sys (i.e. htc camera and netcf) and remove some others to replace theese with 3t part usefully app (i.e. putting in wktask manager instead htc task).
Now my doubts:
(I've readed a lot of wikies and thread but didn't find a CLEAR answer to all my questions)
1- If I use an official .exe rom as base I obiouvsly find inside it the radio part...have to remove this befor but in base folder due i don't need it for my work? How?
2- I'm able to remove oem pack from my rom base and I'm also able to repack new ones starting from a cab file...but I don't know if it's possible to take (exactly as they are) some oem pack from a stock/custom(when not protected) rom to use in mine...I saw that a lot of cookers use oem pack taken from raphael official roms to update thair roms and I would know if the process to do this is just open the rom, copy the oem and past it in mine... In this case...where can I find a good very update raphael rom?!
3- Opposite than this, for manila I would use the "animated switches" version. I want to downgrade it to the version with theese animations but I don't know if there's a particular process to replace this oem...can you tell me? PS: what is the exact manila version I need to do it?
4- TO UPDATE NETCF TO THE 3.5 VERSION WHAT HAVE I EXACTLY DO? And is the Alexandre's oem pack good for my pourpose?
Thank you a lot and sorry if (maybe) some questions were answered in other threads...I searched and readed a lot but there are too many informations in this forum for a noob/bad english speaker/... like me so I decided to ask!

1. When dumping a ROM, it will dump separately the splashes, radio, os and extrom (if any.) Extract the exe with WinRAR and dump the nbh.
2. When dumping a ROM, it will create packages if ROM is unprotected. A good place of finding a Raph ROM would be the Raphael forums.
3. Delete the old package from kitchen and replace with new one (in your case, the old one, animated).
4. You can find ready made NetCF 3.5 packages. You should delete the old NetCF 2 from SYS folder and replace it with the 3.5

Thanks a lot!
So, to replace OEM, just put out (from a rom) and put in (in mine)...so simple?!
Ahahah...
Please, excuse me for my stupidity...BUT I REALLY NEED AN HELP!!!
(I'm following this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=413782&highlight=kitchen)
Here's what I do:
1) I've downloaded from htc site the last official stock rom (localized for my country) \HTC Touch Diamond\QMR\RUU_Diamond_HTC_ITA_1.93.408.3_Radio_Signed_Diamond_52.29.25.12_1.00.25.05_Ship
2) I've extracted all files and putted them into Base ROM folder of surface kitchen.
3) clicked on begin and obtained some folders in the kitchwen one
Now if I go into one package folders in OEM (htc gesture in example) i can't see dsm or rgu files, but just dll and .provxml ones...WHY?! I don't think it's good, right? Where is my fault?!
SO SAD...
PS: I've searched a lot but I've not found a netcf prepared package to cook...
Thanks a lot!

You have to create the packages!
Don't know the kitchen but it should be like this in every kitchen.
Also, you can check inside provxml file (notepad will do), maybe the rgu (registry entries) are set through provisioning.

confused...
I think I have to create just the packages of apps I would to add...not even all the apps contained in the stock rom!
Looking and reading tutorials in this forum I understood that If I would (i.e.) add/rmv apps to my rom I've just to put its files in base rom and then (after extract all) add/remove what I want. Then rebuild.
But for all others teorically I don't do anything...Is this wrong?
PS: thank you for the previous reply
