*CAUTION* Virus Alert

FWIW:
My virus scanner "CA eTrust" detected Win32/Sality.j virus on my harddisk and did a major cleaning. For the fact that 98% of the infected files were that of WM6 kitchen files and executables, I thought it would be prudent to give a heads-up to this community.
I am not saying these WM6 files are the culrpit; for all I know this may be a false positive; but still..

Hi,
The reason why must of kitchen files are infeted is due to the fact that they are executables!
I'm preaty sure that they aren't the source of the virus.
Regards,
I am a regular user of Airscanner AntiVirus on my Cing 8525 and have Custel's 1.3 ROM and Hard SpL. Not noticed any warnings from my AV program (updated and run regularly) Anyone else infected? If not, probably coming from something you picked up not the kitchen files.
Well, it depends where did he get the kitchen from? if that kitchen has been passed from person/pc-person/pc.. then chances are he may have got it from there, rather than from the xda-dev ftp

Mobile P2P

Antivirus Soft on TILT2

Hi,
What antivirus works and can be trusted for Tilt 2? I tried Symantec, but it doesnt work and gives errors.
Thank you.
http://forums.spybot.info/downloads.php?id=30
says it supports 6.1. I don't see that it supports 6.5. Do you know if it does?
HT
Yeah it will run
Sorry, but I'm little sceptical about this program.
flexilis is what i've used and it seems to work well
is that really necessary? i think you only need antivirus and antispyware on a windows desktop.
This gives only malware protection, no virus protection
Don´t think antivirus is really needed yet...
Leo is just about to get Rhodium!!!

That's ridiculous, Leo doesn't have a keyboard.
So, no one uses antivirus on the phone!? It is good news for hackers! And surprise for me!
http://www.bullguard.com/why/bullguard-mobile-antivirus.aspx
Found that via Microsoft's website, so I would imagine it's legit. $40 though. And I've honestly can't say I've ever heard of anyone getting a virus on their mobile phone before, though I don't think it's impossible.
ETA: I would imagine you can connect your phone to your PC as a disk drive, and use your desktop anti-virus to scan it. Has anyone tried this?

Can I use my pocket pc to make simple programs for WM?

Hi everybody! I recently got an HTC Universal from my brother (he has a Tytn 1 and 2) and I use it more often than my pc. Im wondering if I can use it to do simple programs that I cud run on WM. I've searched the XDA forums but I'm still unsure where to start, and if its possible. I have also searched at the Windows Mobile site, but it seems that I'm required to use a pc to make a program. I travel a lot so all I have most of the time is my pocket pc.
If doing an app for WM would really require a pc, is there a way for me to at least minimize it by using my pocket pc?
I'll also appreciate any help on links and downloads for this.
Thanks!
I used to program with my Tytn.
The program was named basic4ppc
Hope it helps!

Recommendation needed for a good antivirus for HTC Touch Pro 2 Windows mobile 6.5

Hello Everyone..
Today I flashed the ROM for my HTC TP2 to the one listed below which comes with Windows Mobile 6.5.
ROM Name : WWE RHODIUM Cookie Energy style
ROM Version : 03.Jul.2010 WWE
ROM date: 03/15/10
RADIO Version : 3.45.25.14
Everything seems to be great so far and the only thing I now need is a good antivirus that can protect my device against viruses and other security issues.
Can anyone please recommend me a good antivirus or firewall solution that can be installed on Windows Mobile 6.5 Professional and which should not degrade the performance of the device..?
Any suggestions will really be helpfull..

why would you need an anti virus?
ive used WM for the past 3 to 4 years without an anti virus and i never had any virus problems ever since
but if youre really that concern then, turn off Beam, Bluetooth file sharing, and dont browse any sites that may contain a virus.....but thats AFIAK
cuz really WM phones arent really that immune to viruses AFIAK
Sorry to be a pain here...
but what if I recieve an infected email? Wont it harm my phone?
I do not browse those vulnerable websites nor have any habbit of downloading suspicious applications. I am concerened about email...
Please advise..
No way something can infect your WM phone. There are about 3 viruses for WM as far as I know, and they are all installed by cabs or other **** from warez.
If you are so concerned about privacy and viruses you may try Lookout. I really enjoy its localization service. It has a got a firewall and a anti-virus integrated.

pocket outlook doesnt execute any macros or other things like desktop outlook does
also, it would have to be a virus written for WM, viruses written for other (dekstop) windows wont infect windows mobile

I don't think AV is needed, but eset makes one www.eset.com.
KAspersky
Kaspersky make antivirus programs for mobile phone. Work good with the TP2

Precisely, it's like a Windows virus harming a Mac computer. Windows Mobile is wayyyy different than desktop version of Windows, therefore the same viruses on desktop won't work on Windows Mobile.

Thanks.. I wasnt aware WM is not yet that exposed to viruses.. However, its better safe than to be sorry...
I did try mylookout.com and its awesome.. It hasn't affected my mobiles performance yet and find it good in terms of security and protection so far..

Thanks for clarifying my doubt.. I wasnt aware about this and indeed i now feel a bit assured ..
Samylines is right to want antivirus. The "I've never had a virus yet so don't need antivirus software" argument is like saying you'll never wear a seatbelt because you haven't yet had an accident. It's definitely prudent to have the assurance of antivirus especially in an industry that is changing and growing (and the threat of viruses increases) on a daily basis.
I don't know Kaspersky's Mobile antivirus, but I use their PC version and find it superb, so I imagine their mobile version would be good too. And I know that F-secure also make a good mobile antivirus.

as jackos pointed out there are not very many viruses out there for WM (he says 3, ive only heard of 2 though) and they are installed via cabs/exes, not email as the OP is concerned about, and i dont think an antivirus would be very good at stopping those, just like desktop antivirus isnt too good at stopping similar trojans on their OSes
the fact is your desktop usually gets infected via flash player, java, email macros and other means similar to that, and the phone simply doesnt support any of that, so its a lot harder to get infected even if there were more viruses
and with WM losing market share to iphone and android i doubt anyone is keen on making many new viruses for WM
maybe we should start a poll, how many people dont run antivirus and never had a virus
as for me, 10 years using palm, WM and blackberry, no AV, no viruses
I agree with you. I think the chances of getting a virus on a Windows Mobile device are extremely small. But you say yourself "its a lot harder to get infected..." not "its impossible to get infected".
Like you I have been using Windows Mobile for several years and never had a virus, but I'm accepting that the possibility exists. It's the same as insuring your house against the possibility of theft, even though it's very unlikely to happen. I don't understand why you're against someone taking the precaution of installing antivirus software "just in case"?
Peace people
All we can say, anyone who wants to use any antivirus and firewall for his/her Windows Mobile, he does have a few good options.. Else its upto that user to use it not.. isnt it
I did get the option I was looking for and thanks everyone for helping me out and sharing your knowledge here...
