This tool has been superseded by: http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=24779
Go there for support of the newer models! (thanks to Itsme)
Update June 3 2004: With an improvement of the repairing process it is now also possible to unlock the Orange SPV M1000. The latest version is v2.2
Update April 6 2004: After testing it was determined this tool works for all Radio ROM versions except for 1.05.12. If you have this version either use the older method or upgrade your phone with an upgrade by your vendor.
To provide a continued quality user experience, we are happy to announce an update to the XDA 2 network lock repair tool!
Supported Radio versions: 1.05.12A, 1.05.14, 1.06.00, 1.06.01, 1.08.00, 1.10.00.
Please report differences or additions to this list.
This tool does NOT support the XDA IIs, XDA IIi or XDA III.
As this tool is fundamentally different from the previous version it pays to read this closely:
The new tool is a PocketPC application. As such it no longer runs on the desktop itself. The good thing is it needs *no hard reset* anymore. The application communicates on the device with the GSM phone directly. The program xda2unlock.exe now needs to be copied on to your XDA 2. To do this there are two options (choices):
1. Use the packaged installer xda2unlock-setup.exe, which will install the program on your PocketPC for you. (so this does run on your desktop but does not unlock anything yet)
or
2. Copy the binary xda2unlock.exe onto your device manually.
Next is to run the application on your XDA 2. The following is taken from the readme.txt in the installer:
Code:
Welcome to the Himalaya network lock repair tool!
xda2unlock.exe v2.2
This tool installs a program on your Pocket PC called xda2unlock.
It is installed in the \Program Files\XDA2Unlock directory.
But you can also find it in under Programs in the Start menu.
You need to tap on xda2unlock to execute it. A screen will appear
informing you of the progress and any errors that might occor.
When you are done you can remove the program under:
Start -> Settings -> System -> Remove Programs
This tool is free and you can find more tools and information at:
http://forum.xda-developers.com
Running the tool on the XDA should provide you with information if it was successful or not. This tool should specifically provide support for newer radio versions such as 1.10.x.
If you have problems, it does not work or you see other strange behaviour please post it in this thread. Supply as much information about your software as you can find and about the circumstances.
Version 2.1 adds some more error reporting to assist with 1.05.12 problems.
Version 2.2 adds repairing of all locks instead of just the network lock.
Enjoy.[/b]
The original tool required a hard rest to enable the code to be obtained (as it went in to boot loader). I am reluctant to do a hard reset (unless I am forced to) as I have a working system and don't want to have to reinstall everything.
My question is - Does this updated tool now mean a hard reset is not required?
Use a backup program
Sprite backup can restore from bare metal(hard reset) in a few minutes. I have to use it several times a month and it works well.
Sim Unlock
I have been semi successful in unlocking my XDA II: :?
For some reason I was unable to unlock my phone using the latest method.
After 3 attempts I reverted to the Bootloader/hard reset method which was succesful in giving me an unlocking code.
I then entered the code and it was accepted.
These are my results:
Vodaphone sim - Phone signal ok but no GPRS?
Orange - No phone signal or GPRS
O2 (original sim) - Phone signal ok and GPRS ok.
Has anyone had similar results or any suggestions as to how I can rectify the above problems?
Any help would be much appreciated.
PS I must say this is a fantastic website and will be donating the money that O2 wanted to unlock my XDA II to the upkeep of this site.
Keep up the good work chaps.
feedback
Hi
I'm very much interested in feedback as the tool was only tested in a very limited way. What did it say when you ran it?
Did you run it with the blocked SIM in it or without SIM?
As you might have noticed the tool does not require a hard reset now.
magic failed
Hi,
I tried this potentially very useful tool a few times from my XDA II from THE LINK with O2 200 tariff.
It failed everytime with the following message (part)
Start of repair process...
Preparing modem ...
Performing magic ...
Failed to do magic
I have a vodafone sim card with £25 top up left that I would like to use up in the XDa II.
Any ideas please?
me too, with exactly the same problems,i got 3 XDA II from the Link with O2 but it doesnt work.It displays failed magic like Matts...So plz help me.
there is my situation:
I install the progamme to my laptop, then copy the file to my XDA II,after suscess install i run the file in my XDA II,it failed .Do i need to connect to internet ??? or sthing else?
success at last
The new xda2unlock failed for me as reported earlier so I tried using the earlier file direct on the PC after going into the bootloader as per instructions. This worked first time and extracted the unlock code.
Using this code I can now use my vodafone sim which has a lot of top up time prepaid.
NOTE:-
1, I did a full active sync backup to PC before starting. The backup file was approx 38MB.
2, I did a soft reset after removing XDA II from the cradle. It then behaved exactly like a hard reset installing from scratch from the extended rom.
3, I then restored the active sync backup using guest mode (I did not want to remove my old settings)
4, When prompted I replaced the XDA II contents with the PC contents.
5, Finally I did a fresh active sync.
My XDA II is now almost exactly as it was before I started.
The big difference is it is now UNLOCKED!!!!
MANY THANKS to the experts in this forum.
I now feel brave enough to tackle the extended rom with customization in mind.
@W4XY
Worked well.
Unlocked brand new dutch T-Mobile device.
Version: 1.60.00WWE
12/0/03
1.06.01
1337.16
1.60.16
MS 4.20.0 (build 13252)
Removed simm did a soft reset and then used the unlock file
So I had no Simm in it, during unlock
After unlocking it behaved like a HARD-reset
But unlock worked. Tested it with a KPN Simm and all is working well.
Tuurtje
but what is your info?
Ok,
I see a few reports of failure here, but still no idea what you guys are running. Please at least supply the info found in Start -> Settings -> System -> Device information
If you're interested in a fix that is.
I experienced exactly the same screen messages as Matt & Sid.
As I mentioned in my previuos post though I did manage to get an unlock code using the old method and it was accepted.
The strange thing is I get varied levels of signal & GPRS depending on which networks sim I use.
Question for W4XY: If I have generated an unlocking code and my XDAII accepted it, should my XDAII now be sim unlocked for all networks or is it possible that its only unlocked for some?
:?
Failed unlock
Tried both with sim in and sim out, same failure both times.

Well this does not sound so strange. I have different performance with different networks too. Depends on their quality, antenna placement etc etc

It should be unlocked for all. A phone can be locked to multiple networks, but once it is unlocked for a network that was previously locked, it should be unlocked for all.
Please at least give your radio version from Start -> Settings -> System -> Device information so we can figure out what works and what doesn't. It could be the older 1.05.x radios behave differently.
Although I am a happy bunny now, as the bootloader method worked for me, for completeness here is the info from my O2 XDA II. The new method failed on this device reporting magic failed.
ROM version: 1.03.00 USA
ROM date: 09/24/03
Radio version: 1.05.12
Protocol version: 1337.12
This device was purchased on 11/mar/2004
Surely this is not an old radio.

The bootloader way should work. It should give you a unlock code. Unless you have Radio version 1.10.x.
PS:
From now on I won't respond to problem reports anymore that do not contain the radio version in their message.
It should be unlocked for all. A phone can be locked to multiple networks, but once it is unlocked for a network that was previously locked, it should be unlocked for all.

To be honest, I'm not sure on what the differences are precisely. I think the 1.10.x is definetly an update to improve as it also specifically blocks the extraction of the unlock code.
I uploaded a new version of xda2unlock above. Version 2.1 should provide some more error information. Please report what it sais.
i just try the new version n here is my report with the new verson that W4XY just posted:

hi
i know its dangerous and i can kill my device but im willing to try if i get the right help
heres what ive done so far
1)downloaded the alpine rom from xda ftp
2) using the alpine upgrade utility tried flashing the rom but it gave me coutnry id error
3)tried fixing the country id error by the method described in http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=16817&highlight=xdaiii+country+id
but that gave me a checksum error
4)i tried the upgrade using baupgrade utlity instead of alpine upgrade utility and it gave me a model id error
how can i overcome these small hurdles
thanks
I will decrypt alipine files.....
I have been uploaded nk.nbf decrypted from alpine.
I also changed header to blueangel..
ftp://xda:[email protected]/Alpine/WARNING/
USE IT AT YOUR OWN RISK
hi
thanks for the help... but when i ran the baupgrade it says ce rom not found ... same message i get when i run the alpine upgrade
so i guess this needs more work!
Alpine and BA have different hardware. If you flash the rom, you'll get unbootable device.
yeah i know.. but that doesnt bother me.. ive flashed the xda II rom into it before ..got a unbootable device then i reflashed the pda2k rom back into it...ended up wasting 2 hrs but saved the device.. so thats no problem
no risks no glory!
did you get my decrypted file from alpine?
yeah.. i did.. but it says ce rom file not present..
with both of the two upgrade utilities!!!
Hi,
I read several posts, but without real solutions. Maybe someone can help us all.
Dutch people with an Artemis that is stuck at the first splash-screen need the original dutch HTC Rom. It doesn't exist as far we can find. It's not a t-mobile or something, just not branded. If anyone has a WM5 original dutch we would be glad also.
The problem is we want to flash with USPL to other WWE rom, we can get into bootloader mode without problem. It get stuck at 3% when trying to flash rom.
When running USPL it asks to copy the same files again several times, with error messages 'device not connected' and then gets stuck at 50..... with 2 error messages, cannot copy cmd.exe.
My question is : does anyone know the real solution or has original HTC rom?
Thanks !!!!!

I have a dutch HTCP3300. Trick is to 1st give a hard reset, and remove the microSD card. Then connect via activesync as a guest (no new partnership). When connected, use startuspl.exe.
Afterwards u can flash any rom, but after using B&B4.0 a while, i advise u to use the clean WM6 rom whch came out on juli 13 (the english rom from HTC asia.).
Works like a charm, but have no dutch language anymore. For that you will have 2 wait till september (i guess) or be lucky its any sooner.
Hangs at 50... when running USPL when bricked
Hi,
Thanks for the reply. Gave it a hard reset & removed SD card. Please note I cannot connect to activesync when phone bricked, so cannot chose any partnerships nor guests. I only hear a sound that usb is connected.
Do I have to use start_uspl while the stuck splashscreen is on, or in bootloader mode? I think it makes no difference, cause before when using start_uspl and phone was working, it got automatically in bootloader mode.
When starting startuspl.exe it says NO DEVICE CONNECTED! it first asks to copy again same files (several times) - i have to say no cause it keeps asking hunderds of times, and then I get at 30 and 40% : can't spawn 'cmd.exe'.... no such file or directory as start_uspl.exe and it hangs at 50....
I know how to flash, had B&B4.0 first before i got stuck, so i have to get into uspl with a bricked phone, anoter interesting thing for all users in this forum.
I saw in Trinity forum the guy 'Pof' made an 'unbrick' tool, would be nice for Artemis users also (and no 6 weeks waiting for repair service)
Thanks for any new help!

i agree 100%.
search for "P800w_SEA_ENG_WM6_Upgrade_20070713"
and
customize to your liking using the b&b apps to be found in all the posts and look for "palestrini" with most cabs.

Tried this already?

Good luck!
Bricked P3300 in splash / .nbh replacement or SD flash not working with CID lock
Hi,
Thanks, but no luck.
1> I tried the German rom (not the one for the orbit) and replaced the .nbh with the B&B4.0 & renamed, also with the HTC official and P800W Sea, but all 3 hang at 3%
2> My device isn't CID-unlocked (no supercid device) so through SD card it says 'Invalid certificate' or just nothing. I tried the HTC Official WWE, B&B 4.0, P800W SEA, renamed all 3 to ARTEIMG.nbh but no luck (due to cid locked i guess). Maybe I will do it when waranty is over. Hate to send it in to wait for 6 weeks.
If HTC repair service can do it, why wouldn't anyone from the xda developpers site cannot fix a bricked p3300? Or is the only method that i have the original dutch HTC rom (not branded) which isn't out.
Thanks if anyone can solve this problem!!!

Wat numbers do you see in the colored screen? Ie Ispl?
look here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=312871
if you know someone with a working dutch artemis, you can make a rom backup out of it and flash it to your device.
ok, i know its not the easy way, but at least it seems to work.
Backuped up Dutch Rom please
Hi Twiggerdingo,
The numbers are :
IPL 3.07.0001
SPL 3.07.0000
GSM 02.95.90
OS 3.4.0.0
B&B4.0 was flashed with uspl from the original WM5 Dutch rom. B&B Worked perfect, but everything went wrong when flashing ARTE_NLD_WM6_RvBCrS. It was an .nb file, converted it to .nbh (cause always hangs with bat file) but no luck. It seems that it always goes wrong with a .bat file and a OS.NB file. Never been stuck with an upgrade.exe and an .NBH file.
Hope I can fix it this week instead of sending in for repair and 6 weeks waiting... If anone has the dutch original rom (or can make a .nbh backup) ?
There is also a htc rom tool version 1.0.1 (rombuilder by dark simpson) i saw on this forum. You can select a rom, choose country id, language, ...
I wonder if I could change the country id,... to the same as my dutch rom, so that it would flash, but can't remember the country id the other data.
Thanks for any help!!

Unbrick P3300 with Vista
Hi,
I'm running vista, but I can't see the problem, cause i flashed many roms without problems to B&B 4.0,...
What does Vista witheld that XP can with a bricked phone ?
Tomorrow my friend comes with his XP laptop, will this make a difference you think?
Thanks!

1.12.404.1.nld
The only rom that can unbrick my device would be the original rom i guess, it would be the 1.12.404.1.NLD (9/12/06). Anyone can help me to find this one? Not on HTC site, no support at all.
Hi Innovator,
Vista seems to give some problems for some people when they are trying to flash their rom. its reported in several other threads. Mayby XP can help you, although when it HAS worked for you, i think the chances are small.
My GUESS is that you have to reflash your current rom somehow, so the last terrible rom youve mentioned. (dont know that 1...).
So this 1:
ARTE_NLD_WM6_RvBCrS
IPL 3.07.0001
SPL 3.07.0000
GSM 02.95.90
Afterwards use uspl. And then u can continue for another 1. At this point i dont think a original Dutch Rom can help you out.
upgraderom.bat = no device connected
Hi,
I will try tomorrow with XP, the problem is that ARTE_NLD_WM6_RvBCrS rom is an OS.nb file with an upgraderom.bat file.
When i try to upgrade rom with this batfile & .nb it says copy files again? with device not connected remark. This is the same as when trying to run USPL, so i think to flash like this you need a working phone. For USPL it needs windows CE to work and the same error.
How can I easily convert this os.nb to os.nbf ? I tried some tools but had to fill in a lot of stuff (didn't know what).
I like more flashing with upgrade.exe tool & .nbf files, no problems at all.
Thanks

RvBCrS Guy & rom-flashing
Hi,
No luck again.... repair service is nearby...
Tested all the roms on XP and same errors, hangs at 3% maximum.
I have the pdocwriteartemis by the RvBCrS guy, i put the os.nb in the rom directory and now it says 'not all depencies are found! now quitting".
RvBCrS says only OS.nb like i did, is there something wrong with this guy?
Maybe he can save his image on xda forum (and my Artemis).
Hope to find a quick solution...
Thanks!

Cannot flash with upgradeartemis.bat file in dos
Hi,
I'm really sorry but I cannot flash through a .bat file in dos, it asks always to copy the same files again, you have to take no cause it keeps asking hundred times (device not connected also mentionned)
Then you have to wait 12-20 min (if it hangs 30min mentionned) but it stays on the bootloader screen, nothing happens.
I can only flash with .nbh from storage card
or with upgraderom.exe (in windows).
Only from bootloader mode, cannot get into activesync also.
Best regards,

Fine,,,
Device: at&t 8525
ROM: Original WM5 ROM, and while trying to upgrade it my device hanged up on the colored screen. To fix that, I've installed schap's 4.31 WM6 ROM using the MicroSD Card (HERMIMG). Now the device can boot but with No GSM at all (even there's no information about the GSM under Device Info).
The device now can accept any modified ROM (like schap's, faria, etc...) but unable to accept the official (original) ROMs. When I try to install any official ROM the upgrade process will stack on 11% every time.
So, the device still having no GSM.
Thank You....
FirasKB,
Most roms on her DO NOT come with a radio included. Usually only the manufacturer roms do.
There are 2 things you need to do:
- Consult the MrVanx guides which will help you understand what you are doing (google search for this).
- go to the wiki in this forum and search for a radio rom to upload.
In summary, reflash, say, Scahps rom then flash a radio rom from the wiki (I suggest radio 1.47, which is pretty reliable).
Hope this helps.

Ahhh, a little info.
First download the official AT&T 3.62 ROM which includes the 1.54.07.00 radio.
Reboot the pc with the PDA disconnected.
(Oh, make sure that you have ActiveSync 4.5 insttalled of course)
Put the device into bootloader mode (hold power and OK button while pressing reset with stylus, nice tri color screen will appear)
Connect the PDA to the USB cable and run the RUU_Inside.exe file.
wacky.banana is correct, most chef's don't include a radio. You've got a corrupted ROM (due to the incomplete flash) The RUU_Inside.exe will typically talk directly to the hardware when nothing else can and fix. I've personally recovered around 10 or so 8525's that I've "bricked" with bad flashes and then repaired with this method.
I can't guarantee that this will work but it IS your best shot friend.
Good luck!

Thanks to your support friends,,
I've done as you mentioned, but the upgrade process stopped on 11% again and couldn't complete!!?? (the message ERROR [262]: UPDATE ERROR appeared on my P.C)!!??
Kindly, advice...
I can't remeber what error 262 is about; however is your device unlocked? If it is not then you need to address that issue first (its in the wiki)
Secondly have you installed hard spl to your device BEFORE attempting to upgrade your rom? If the answer to this question is no then that will confirm that you have not read up on this before jumping in, which is hugely dangerous.

Stuck.... completely stuck
My fiances phone is stuck in the tri color bootloader screen. I am in the US and i have tried everything from flashing the original RUU to a hard reset and everthing, but nothing seems to work. the IPL is 4. 10. 0002 and the SPL is 4. 10. 0000. Can someone please help me. I know there has to be a way to fix this.
I had the same problem. After trying to fix it myself for about a week I gave up and sent it to AT&T Repair center. Got it back functional.
I haven't tried the Himalaya ROM method, though.

Thanks again to your support,
The problem happened when I tried to unlock the device to upgrade it (it was fine befor), I don't know whether it was already locked or not, but usualy when I buy any Pocket P.C I'm preparing to unlock it first (I've done that many times on HERMES before, but this is the first time I'm facing such problem!!). So, while unlocking the device it's stucked on the tri color screen.
I've done many things after that to solve the problem (updating the hard SPL to v2.10 successfully, flashing many ROMs -not including Radio- successfully).
So, I can flash any ROM now but it must be without Radio, otherwise the flashing process will stuck on 11%.
try reading the wiki:

More than 2 days and I couldn't success to bring the Radio back??!! I think I've really lost my device.
FirasKB,
What steps exactly have you taken to solve the problem? Try and outline them here; that will help people on here to identify what else you need to do to bring the device back to life.

wacky.banana,
As I wrote above, my problem still not solved and my device still running with (No GSM).
I've done the following:
- Updating the ROM (O.S only as the device not accepting any Radio ROM)
- Updating the SPL to Version 7.
- Trying to update the radio (separately) but I didn't success??!!
It seems there is no solution to fix this problem???!!!

Unfortunately, but that's also didn't help, because the main problem now is how to install the Radio on the device??!!
The device is not accepting the Radio installation at all, NO WAY....

i red this link already my friend but im not sure that i really understand the procedure in upgrading thats why im asking for the help of anybody who knows universal because it also iunclude in the link the procedure in upgrading wizard its very confusing for me.
thanks to your reply!
I have to agree with Andrei here, the doc is not very enlightening,
from what I have read there are a few things missing.
For example I don't know if I have to "unlock" my phone. I bought it on ebay they said it was unlocked, the phone was not available in USA&Canada they imported it somehow from Europe (it's an MDA Pro). I beleive it is unlocked already but ...some users here say "completly unlock your phone" ...which means...there are some other partial "unlocks" ???
The Wiki procedure says you have to backup your files...It is har to beleive that there is no standard reliable software that can be included and mentioned in this procedure. This is an important step and if anything goes wrong you must be able to find your way back to at least what you had had before you did the upgrade.
As for "the search button" ...I have tried that and ...)) the same results tons of answers ...you need years to read and to process all that info.
Guys,
After Having Device only for few days to upgrade may not be advisable. Therefore I suggest you to take few days to get to know your device and read more info.
REgarding the "Locked Device" means you would only able to use the device with the SIM of the Orginal carrier. As you already using the device in other country and other service provider..I guess you device is UNLOCKED.
Anyhow I will try to short describe how to upgrade goes.
1) Make sure you get the orginal OS of your device first. anything goes wrong you can flash back to that OS.
2) make sure you backup your personal files from the device( files;PIM;etc.etc)
3) make sure you have bootloader higher then V1.0
4) make sure you have full charged Battery
5) Remember that in cooked WM6 the vidoe call doesnt function anymore!!!
6) Download a cooked ROM available here in the Universal forum. ( the New ROM of Tomal V8.5 is great one)
7) I.E Tomals ROM file has got everything you need to Flash your device
8) Anything else is clearly descriebed in the WIKI "READ IT carefully"
Good Luck.. dont blame if anything goes wrong

Aparently if your PDA is seen by UNI_ExitBootloader.exe that means the reboot command is executed then you should be OK. But....I tried that and I had to try it twice, the first time didn't work.
So...apparently I will have to try to bootloder upgrade and after that burn the new ROM.
I still need a way to save the old one.
BTW, in what circumstances can yu damage your phone up to the point where you can not reflash it or use it anymore ?
nad one more question, will the phone work (calling and receiving calls) if the software is gone ? I believe it will not but...what do I know ? )
I'm also not totally clear on the instruction. Though they seem to be complete the style their written in leaves some questions.
If I have a G4 then is the file "HTC_Uni_SIM_Unlock_v1.rar" at ftp://ftp.xda-developers.com/Universal/Tools_and_Programs/ is what is needed to unlock CID/EROM locks in preparation for ROM flashing?
Or is SIM unlocking totally different from the unlocking were talking about?
Thank you vary much!

1)I have no Vista therefore I cnt give you much info and that but I have read alot of issues with it. Therefore I suggest you to read more on how to upgrade in Vista.
2) I personally dont use any Backup Software. I syc. My Device with my desktop and M$ Outlook. Any Info that I have with contacts,Appointments,Task even My Documents folder and files. Those will be available on my Desktop and after upgrade you can Sync. them to you Device with new ROM
3) If you have BL 1.0 which means you should have G3 device then I believe you can use the JASJAR_BL1.01_RUU_v1.2.exe ???I have an MDA Pro.
4) UPGRADE in XP....YOU NEED TO CHECK HOW IS IT IN VISTA
4.1) Download Tomals ROM which comes in package like:TML_v85_WM61_20764_ST.exe (that is the standard OS).
4.2) Put your device in boot loader mode with button Comb. >power B + Back light B + Push the reset B <with stylus until you see on the screen the Boot loader Screen. Connect Device to your Computer.
4.3) Start the TML_v85_WM61_20764_ST.exe with double click and the installation will start.
4.4) follow the screen instruction.
4.5) After completing the upgrade Disconnect the Device from the Computer.
4.6) Push button comb. >push left soft key B + push right soft B + Push with stylus the reset B< untill you see message on the screen ....Push "0 (nill)" to set device to factory setting or something..
Well then you should be fine and completed your upgrade. AGAIN CHECK THE UPGRADE WITH VISTA.. I have no experience with Vista.

The realVGA is not included in the Tomals ROM. you need to download it separately.(http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=327830)
I am not that young anymore and therefore I found my self having issues with the RealVGA. 128DPI is nice but you need good eyes. 96DPI is not usable I would say
