Why? I can't think of any (legal) reason why you would want to... :?

it's illegal to do anyway...
nonetheless, I myself am intrigued, it'd be prtty useless to change my IMEI, but generally I enjoy doing things "just because you can" although it would serve me no practical purpose

Im sure this isnt exactly on point for this thread, but im answering as to why someone would like to change an IMEI and not for the shady illegal reasons. Im looking at the Hauwei S7 tablet and even the Galaxy tab with some interest. the problem is while both tablets support their use as a phone, Tmous does not want you to use them this way and enforces this by checking IMEI and disabling voice for anything that comes back as a tablet. So, im curious about changing the IMEI to an older phone i no longer use to get around this and get them to let me pay for a smartphone plan and use both the data and the voice feature built into the device.

Looking at how the software has functionality to push policies and restrict usage of apps I'd say it would definitely allow them to micromanage the phones. But then again, as an IT guy I'd guess you wouldn't be happy if one of your users decided they wanted to blow away whatever OS you installed on a PC and put Ubuntu on it.
Im just hoping that it will not prevent a phone that is rooted from connecting to exchange. I really love wireless teather lol
That would require a tremondous amount of intelligence on the part of the system. I think this is more for 'allow only people who work for me to access the site' and everyone else should be denied.

Since this is in the Incredible forum I'm assuming you have an Incredible, in which case you dont need to be rooted to wireless tether...just FYI if your boss cracks down.
Google "HTC tether natively" and I'm sure it will pop
I read thru the site from the link.
Looks like through air-watch they'd have full admin access to device.
Question is whether the air-watch admin would 'blacklist' the superuser and/or tethering app(s).
Unlikely, imho, whether an astute IT person and/or admin of this system would allow a superuser app on devices that connect to company assets, but stranger things have happened.
Another thing i like is the root unistaller/ set cpu and custom roms. but thats another battle haha
Plus if you try to wipe the phone and install the new ROM, I am sure the Boss is going to have a few words with whoever did it.
Besides, it's not their phone, it's the company's phone. They can do what they want with it.
I work for a company in the top 20 of the fortune 500..we're looking at allowing employees to bring their own devices into our exchange servers but the catch is how to remote wipe them..they are looking at how to deal with rooted devices. I'm not privy to how they are working that out.

Thats what we are trying to do. my boss is afraid of a rooted droid bringing in some virus/malware in and he would also like to force things like screen lock pin codes. I dont see how a rooted phone would bring that stuff in anymore then a stock one but forcing a security policy would stop someone from stealing data from it rooted or not i would think
The fact that it is rooted does not make it any more likely to get a virus then an unrooted phone. Almost all android phones have the ability to install apps from the SD card and that is where a virus won't come from, not the ROM you happen to be using.
However, the installation of this could put your phone in shackles. In addition to the possibility of restricting what you can install, such as games, it could kill your ability to connect to wifi hotspots that are unknown to your company, they could can wipe your phone at a moments notice and track your location without your knowledge.
That way if you call in sick, your boss can find out if you are really at the game or home in bed.
In any case, if this is a work phone then you don't have much choice but if this is your personal phone, I would try to stay clear of it.
Very nice answer. Im the one who has to implement it so i can always exclude myself from the devices that are being watched. The call in sick thing is an awsome yet crappy thing lol

Or leave it at home and enjoy the game. Less suspicious if the phone is on and at home than off and lord knows where.

My employer is extremely security aware, and they are considering using an app named "Good." It partitions the Exchange data in an encrypted folder and allow that folder to be remotely wiped. Accessing the data is only available through the app, which is PIN protected.
This may be a better solution to your boss... and you.
This is what they have told me, I have not used it yet, and I am an amatuer at best when it comes to IM/IT. They were amazed and very concerned when they became aware that rooting and installing a custom ROM was easy enough that I could successfully do it...
Glad my employer hasn't learned how to do remote wipes on Droid phones since it would be end of many of us that hate iPhones. 75% of our staff use Droid phones and 50% of us have our phone rooted.

It is in the Market. The full name is "Good for Enterprise" and the dev is listed as "Good Technology"
Policy for personal phones
Our company finally decided to allow personal phones to be connected to exchange. The phone just has to be compatible with accepting exchange policy, and we had to sign a company form stating that we are ok with them wiping our data if the situation arose.

that software looks alot better then the air-watch. seems alot more direct rather then locking down the whole phone lock the exchange info. Im gonna pitch that to my boss. I bet its alot cheeper too

Throwing in the towel. Who's with me?

I keep getting the Note 4 910a (3x) hoping that the locked down everything won't bother me. It does... a lot.
My 14 day return ends on 1/16/15. I ordered the n910c yesterday, and expect it to arrive 1/13/15 at the latest. I did quite a bit of research, and found that the N910c/f/t should, in theory, work on AT&T with no issues. They seem to have all of the bands required. T-Mobile refuses to sell me a phone without signing up with them, so it came down to c and f. For those who don't know, C and F are almost the same with the exception of c having Exynos, and f having snapdragon. I was surprised that the exynos seems to support AT&T LTE. Anyway, I chose the 910c, because the exynos chip is supposed to be faster, and use less battery, and was cheaper. Plus there is a glimmer of hope that 64 bit will be unlocked on it once lollipop is released on it. I will come back here, and let you guys know how the switch went once I get my phone.
For those of you who choose to stay behind, I hope that you gain root, but I doubt it will happen since all of the devs seem to have moved on.

"Jerk". Do you think that talking to people like that will get you some sort of XDA cred? Last I checked, the General forum for 910A wasn't very full at all. If anything, a new thread should be welcomed. The point of this was to not only express my distaste for a locked device, but to help point others towards a more open device. That is why I mentioned more than just the device I chose. I actually listed the 3 that I believe to be fully compatible with AT&T's network. I won't be choking on my new phone, and suggesting I do so, only makes you sound butt hurt, cuz you couldn't afford to buy one outright. So why don't you do us all a favor, and stop making your obvious envy more obvious, and stop wasting space on my thread.
To anyone else; I'll still report back to confirm that the N910C does in fact work on AT&T. I noticed my 910A is picking up 17. So I can't confirm 4 until I find an area.
The troll will pursue until the end of time.....

Yeah, no one cares if you leave. This post is just showing how much of a spoiled, impatient consumer you are. Carry on.
I don't have a problem with this guy's thread, it is extremely frustrating and he wants a place to vent about it.
I am still on the fence. My original decision was to go with the Nexus 6, but the complaint list on reddit about the software and hardware of that phone have turned me off. I love AT&T and have been with them for a long time, but I am considering switching to the Sprint Note 4, they have a much better deal than AT&T anyways.
For now I am going to continue to hold off until March to see if the price drops because I still love the Note 2 and am not in a hurry to upgrade. Since I really would like to stay with AT&T I have disabled all of my favorite xposed mods and am pretty much running stock 4.4.2 DN3. I think I could live without root on the Note 4, aside from that stupid ass AT&T logo in the top left of the screen. Highly annoying.
I'd just get a bad imei tmobile, unlock and use on AT&T.

ESN and IMEI are different.
Once it's not used on the same network you should be able to do it.
So yes I can't get an unlock code via t-mobile but I can get it from an unlocking service online

So are you saying you found a method or are going to try to find a method?
Any cobtribution is a good one but I am not familiar with the legality either but dont see it matter unless you are posting saying thieves can use it on a stolen device.
In all honesty, ppl legitamitely forget their passwords and lock themselves out I am sure all the time and at times if you purchase the phone from a third party theres really no way to remove or bypass it without proof of purchase or replacing the device which some might not have because of how it was purchased.

I have successfully bypassed the FRP Reset Protection no matter how much security is on the phone, passcode, pattern, fingerprint. All are bypassed for a full clean factory reset.
So short answer, yes. Also there is a high likelihood that this method works on ALL variants.

I personally would contact MikeChannon (forum admin) at http://forum.xda-developers.com/member.php?u=335322 and go from there. I'm all for public disclosure but if you are worried about legal or forum rules I think he'd be more informed.
From the Moderator
The bypass method would not violate any law per se. The only issue that would be in question is if you own the phone or lease it.
Under that specific lease agreement it probably has wording about applying custom software to the phone.

ESN lockout is what makes turning over a lost or stolen phone difficult. And yet there is a huge grey-market trade on ebay and other places. I image they are all going overseas to get the appropriate chips switched out for resale. And if they have an operation set up for that, physically removing the flash chip and reprograming it would be a breeze. IMHO the lockout is more of a money generator for samsung so they can charge you to unlock it if you lock yourself out.
Describing the process is no more illegal than rooting. And if you figured it out, someone else will too. Only they might not share in hopes of selling the service or profiting somehow.

Actually it would destroy or prevent a market. Markets only exist for those who know how and can do it. At the moment that is Samsung. You don't share it and Samsung makes a bit more money. Then someone else figures it out and they also don't share.... you start seeing adverts on eBay priced a bit below Samsung for the "get back into your phone!" service (or maybe it's just you trying to make a buck ;P ) If you do release it or someone else figures it out and releases it. Well,... we will still see the adverts on ebay for the techna-challenged but it will be a hell of a lot cheaper because it is a known process thus many people offering thus competition.

A real problem with samsung

hi my name is abdelrahman and i am new to samsung i happened to carry huwaei and sony mobiles before but i always wished to carry a note phone since its the flagship of android ...sadly it caused me to hate samsung and its ridiculous apps
1) Contacts display options the description doesn't appear like Huawei (my older phone) and this is not a hard option to do just put viewing options in contacts display SO I CAN SEE THE DESCRIPTION OF EACH CONTACT UNDER ITS NAME which is very important to me and i didnt find any application that have this option also instaklling the huwaei contact app on my note10+ failed i dont know why
2) No smart select for the sim card it's only either select one of the sims always to be used or select the sim each time (my huwaei used to know that if i am calling my contact on his number for example x the phone was used to make the phone call with sim 1 for example because i used to do this for some time and the phone picked it up automatically....and so on
3) Connectivity Issues (it's very slow switching between networks)
4) No dedicated 4G mode it's bundled with 2G/3G/4G which is frustrating there must be a seperate option for 4G only like the wcdma only option on my older mate 8 there used to be a 4G button in the notification panel which enforce the use of only 4G network
5) Music media players that comes with the device doesn't fast forward or rewind the song itself and cant be done by linking it to the bluetooth of the car (solved by downloading another player but i was surprised by this problem really i didn't think that this is an option since now i cant be hand free while driving because i have to scroll the music playing bar now just to fast forward or rewind)
6) The need to say hi bixby every time u want to use it is ridiculous there must be something about it

my friend for sure u will never look back to iphone since its not on the same level of the competition what i mean is how can a 4 year old phone from a chinease manufacturer have small features but very vital like this and samsung doesnt
Different phones offer different options, pretty much always. A 4 year old phone will have things newer phones got rid of, there are definitely times where they get rid of things we liked and used (like an IR blaster for example). Also, OS updates almost always lose some options from the previous version. I held off on updating my Note 9 to Pie because I liked the available options of Oreo better. Still have my Note 9 on Oreo, still like the drop down quick settings better than my Note 10+ has on Pie. That's just an example.
Unfortunately, there is always some give and take when changing phone brands, OS systems, etc. Overall newer phones are overwhelmingly better, but there are still things that we wish we could have back that get lost over time.
I second that opinion, maybe you should go back to Huawei.
I can't comment on dual SIM, since I don't have it, but for example #1 personally I much more prefer Samsung way, than the way you describe Huawei does it. Much cleaner that way and I really don't need any descriptions on most of my contacts, like really do I need descriptions for Dad, Mom, wife or Elisa my daughter? If I need descriptions I put them in the title like Jimmy -plumber, chinese broadway etc.
While I understand you got used to do it your way, yours maybe not the only or even better way, personally I would either accept it or leave. Can't help with number 3, never had that issue, #4 I think there are settings for this, but don't remember where, because I would never use it, if there is no LTE signal of course I want to have any connection available, much better than nothing and I think there is a setting to always prefer LTE. #5 as you already found out particular player/car BT issue and #6 I never used Bixby can't comment much, but I would imagine there have to be some way to tell the phone you're talking to it, instead of friend? no? Maybe try hello Google instead. BTW that newest Huawei 30 pro looks like an awesome phone, was even thinking of getting it myself, if it only had s-pen.

I understand, once you past free return period, or if you don't even get one, it can be frustrating to switch to new phone and find out it works different, but at least for contacts the workaround I gave you should be easy enough? Also, if you really need phone set to LTE only I'll try to dig out the instructions?
Regarding Huawei m-pen, it's good to know, but if the pen is not stored inside the phone, I'll keep on loosing it, I tried that before, unless there is a case with build-in pen storage, because that could work.
You should change back to Huawei. Then you might find something useful in Samsung but not in Huawei.
I don't want the description below the contact, then will make the contact list extra long to scroll. I usually put the name and the company name just behind the name. If I really want the description like emails, I just click the name to see it.
I don't use 2 sim cards. But I think you still can choose which sim card to call. Just extra steps.
There is no 4G alone option. It is not a bad thing. I tried to set it 3G only, but when I traveled, where the place has bad 3G service, then no one can call or msg me but I totally forgot I did that. So no 4G only might be a good thing for places with inconsistent 4G coverage.
To fast forward a song, just drag the progress bar. If you want a fast speed, it is in the setting.
Just long press the power/Bixby button can bring up the Bixby voice. So you doesn't need to say Hi Bixby. Surprisingly you are using Bixby when the rest of us not.

It does work with their spen but it's not built in
For Contacts and Dual Sim issue, there are several Apps that can do the function you require like Truecaller and for Music as well, you can try 3rd party Apps

Possible Note 10+ US snapdragon root???

No working root for note10+ US snapdragon in site you say??? A few months back @elliwigy with extreme syndicate release a working root method for the note 9 snapdragon, they did this by exploiting the combo files to bypass the locked boot-loader issue with newer US Samsung models. I was curious to see if this can also be achieved on the us note 10 plus. I have been working on that very problem but i seem to have hit a wall could use some fresh input. Is anybody else actively working on this if so I would like to team up and solve this problem....
yours in good code,
-C-Dubbenstein-
Would be nice when and if. Good luck. I picked up my vzw note 10plus on day 1 here in US. Never updated anything other than play store apps for in the event a root or maybe even a bootloader unlock would come to. Neither of which I'm holding my breath on. But I'm optimistic. These are strange times we live in so who knows.
Good luck nonetheless,

Well I seen this morning there is an unlocking method for $150 just need to confirm if itll work for the + models also
see
https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-note-20-ultra/how-to/root-note-20-ultra-version-t4165703
appears to cover n10 among few other
Anyone tried this rooting/ bootloader unlock method successfully on an SM-N976U Note 10+5G from Tmo?
Sent from my SM-N976U 5G using XDA-Developers Legacy app
This reply.
This has enough red flags to be more red than "some country flag" itself.
"So basically I gotta send some random guy in Beijing $150.. wait a week, install some 3rd party utils to let him take over my (windows) computer.. and if anything goes wrong I'm out $150 and the only way to get ahold of them is Telegram?"
That's the reply quoted above.
Hmm...
a. send money to unknown person - no control whatsoever on tracing the money
b. wait for some time - no guarantee of getting an answer
c. install some 3rd party PC tools (or similar) which will allow that unknown person to control my computer - WHAT POSSIBLY COULD GO WRONG :silly:
d. if something goes wrong / unsuccessful result (which are quite possible) then ... - ugh, cuz why not, I've paid, right?
e. the only way to get in touch with that person is telegram - btw, on groups channels there's no encryption (afaik, but maybe I'm wrong)
What can I possible do with the 150$? What if I save some 20-30$ every month for 2 years and add the 150?
Some 630$ - 870$ of savings in 2 years, not bad, they may help in buying the next phone.
Oh yeah, and no root. Because 'Murica (and a few others) luv SD chips. And LagSung loves $$$.

Then don't do it. I know the guys too. And they are legit. So it's no one loss but your own. I wouldn't hesitate. Next time you want root or such buy a device that can be out the door

I did not say that they are not legit nor that I have something against them.
My point is that the variables on this endeavor are complex and thin, not so much transparency.
I do own an 975F, so I don't loose anything.

Right now it's the only way to get the eng tokens based of the did of your device. I just see so many people talking crap. That they'll end up closing up shop and screw the rest of us in the future when we need em. Where all know about us locked bootloader since the s5 s6. By now most people should know this and buy unlockable bootloader devices. I'm in the US. Have had severL unlocked snap. And currently running a note 10 exy

so the reply you quoted is someone who is paranoid or mad that its not "free".. most good things in life are not free..
a. I am known very much so in the community and have been around a decade or so.. have been only dev really providing root (for free) on xda since the s8 and posted many other dev projects overthe years before that
b. I respond as soon as physically possible so u will get a reply. also to add im not shady at all, in fact theres a plethora of notes which users must read everything before theyre even able to send anything.
c. usb redirector is a very common tool that most legit services use for various things such as sim unlocks, frp bypasses or w.e other services are out there in the world. it also DOES NOT allow full control of ur computer lmao.. it only allows them to see the device plugged into usb which is what allows remote services to be dont.. u basically plug device in and with usb redirector itll appear as if its plugged in to the remote computer so they can unlock the device.
d. if something goes wrong bcuz the user didnt read all the notes, provided wrong did or something after repeated warnings, notes, having them triple check then thats their own fault. If it is an issue with the service then a refund is given. This is common practice. If you go to an antique store and break something chances are u will have to pay for it, same concept.
e. theres multiple ways. chat, xda, email, pymbt is done in venmo usually so u also have access to personal facebook account if need be. Encryption for chat isnt really necessary.. im sure real hackers have more important things to do then try and somehow steal a random chat for a did they cant do anything with anyways lol
its also not 150.. only flip 2 is 150 which very few ppl have anyways.. but i do agree, you can do a lot with 150 and of course saving money over two years is a good idea lol
and absolutely, we luv sd chips bcuz its consistently superior than exynos as well as exynos doesnt have good functionallity on usa networks.. why buy a exynos if ur in usa and not have any carrier features or 5g etc?
thats just my 2 cents lol

I must apologize for the fact that I didn't know that you are the person dealing with this root possibility. I know the type of your work, but didn't think it can be also a different one too.
I also have great respect for you, so again, I'm sorry.
I understood that it was a completely other unknown person related to this situation. My ignorant answer(s) were based on that.
To be more clear, I do not live in US and can't buy an US SD with similar carrier conditions. I have access to Exynos as purchase and warranty. I'm satisfied with it.
It is totally my fault being to superficial in getting the correct (somehow an interesting/challenging one) context of this talk.
Therefore I apologize again.
Best regards.

lol no need to apologize.. just as someone else stated a "paid" service or even unlock in general for some reason ppl have a hard time believing but with everything else theres always goimg to be a few out there that will be quick to downplay it.
Of course some points/concerns im sure are very real to some ppl and paid services are frowned upon on xda for valid reasons with one being some ppl will be triggered and unfortunately sometimes post innapropriately lol
i dont really talk about it much for obvious reasons

So you trust the method to get the note 10+ snapdragon rooted? Do you or does anyone know anyone who has done it thats given feedback besides Mad Scientist saying he knows them? What would you say is the best option of a note 10+/model number that can be rooted?
A non related question, is there a recommended carrier unlock company you'd recommend, i use a tmobile note 10+. Is unlockriver legit?
Lol

thats insane! for that much i could buy an octoplus with a years license and then charge everyone visiting these threads $20 to bootloader and/or sim unlock their devices. whats the incentive to use that kind of service. ive never even heard of a remote frp fix for more than $30.
