Ok - some mobiles had option I believe(unconfirmed) that with 2 sim cards installed, a piece of software on the phone allowed switching between sim cards - saves turning them on/off - any idea if the xda has this option?
Reason being - I have a personal sim card, and now I have a work one BUT would prfer just one phne and do prefer the xda
Scott
yep
I use "wivit" sim switcher, works just fine on my xda2s, xda2 and xda2i

wivit
Wivit doesnt works on WM05
I know this is a longshot - but anyone know with this type of software if the software will tell you that a call is coming in on say on 1 sim card, so that you can then switch to that sim card???
Cheers
Scott
Very long shot - It doesn't work. Only one SIM at a time is connected. What I do is set up a divert from one to the other, so that I can always received all my calls whichever SIM is active & then simply switch to the appropriate SIM when making calls

Hi
To all I am completely new to the M1000 after upgrading from a SPV c500 and throwing my old PDA away.
I have been reading through the forums about the Dual Sim
At the mo I have 2 Orange Sim Cards 1 on contact and 1 Pay as you go I would like to put both sims in the phone so that I can use my free minutes on contract and my free texts on Pay as you go.
I was thinking of buying the King of Double card Dual Sim Card form e-bay.
I have read that you can swap sims by turning on/off flight mode ???
I have regestered my interest in WiVit for there Today screen sim switcher. But this not yet ready.
3 Questions
1. Has anyone done this
2. How do you switch sims using flight mode
3. How can you tell if both are on orange which one you are cureently using??
If anyone can answer this for me please please include idiot instructions as i dont want to break this terriffic phone
Many many thanks
To swap sim using flight mode, click on the top of screen where the signal/antenna is, choose flight mode............click same place again, click turn off flight mode, your sim is now swapped. To find out which sim you are using you could choose programs/sim manager/tools/list own number, that should give you the phone number of current sim in use, there is probably an easier way but I cant think of it right now.
I used dual-sim on my nokia for ages until they stopped it working.
To get around the problem with knowing which sim is active, I stored all my numbers in the phone, then had 1 number in each sim, with a dummy number so I didn't dial by mistake.
e.g. 'Private', '000' for my own sim.
and 'Work', '000' for my worktime sim.
(on the nokia, I had to put 'a' in front so this number was always at the top of my phonelist, but this is not needed on the XDA.)
The dual-sim version of S4 mini takes 2 SIM cards. I get that. But how does this work?
Do I need to turn off/turn on the phone to switch from one sim to another, or does it provide full (or limited) functionality of both SIMs and the same time?
they work on dual sim standby I think that's the correct name,
you can use only one sim for data plan (3g) you get to choose which one to use
wen you are on a call the other sim is turned off or you can configure call redirection to the active sim but your telephone company have to be compatible

Dears,
Am in the process of researching/buying an HTC M8 dual SIM phone, can someone please advise if it is feasible to STOP Mobile DATA on a certain line (Ex: Line1) and ENABLE Mobile Data on the other line (Ex: Line2).
Thanks for all your help.

Bad dual sim management
Better late than never, right?
You find "dual sim management" in the phone's settings.
This is where you can activate and deactivate each sim and where you set the preferred sim for mobile data.
So, yes, you can easily switch the sim that's being used for mobile data.. However, the BIG restriction is, that the sim 2 radio only supports 2G (up to EDGE). So, in order to use high speed internet from the provider whose sim is located in slot 2 you actually have to swap the sim cards. Also, there's no way to automatically switch to the other network's mobile data in case you lose mobile data coverage on the preset network . You really have to tell the phone manually which network to use.
Another big issue for me is that I can't preset the network I use for calls. So, my sim 1 is for data only. sim 2 is for voice calls and texts. Remember: it has to be this way because only sim 1 supports 3G/4G. Now, when I initiate a call via voice or via my car's bluetooth unit the phone automatically tries to use sim 1 as the default for calls. I can't set it up to use sim 2 as the default call handler and there's no dialogue asking me which sim to use like when I dial manually. That's really bad, all other companies that offer dual sim phones have better management options in their software's settings.
I tried using alternative phone apps which give you the option of choosing a default sim for calls but this only works for voice-dialing; bluetooth still overrides the alternative dialer and always goes with the stock one.
I hope this helps - so actually I'd advice agaist the M8 dual sim despite it being beautiful and having really good hardware.

Hello
I hope this is the right place to ask and I feel at this point I have been searching Google dry over the past week.
I have a HTC one m8 with dual SIM, as I live in Sweden and work in Denmark, I have a Swedish tre.se in SIM1 and then a Danish 3.dk in SIM2
While I'm in Denmark, both SIM card works and connects to their network, but the second I enter Sweden, SIM2 won't find a connection.
I tried to switch the two cards, but then it's just the Swedish card in SIM2 that won't connect.
From what I have been able to Google , SIM2 should only be using 2g network, but this should be a problem for either of the subscriptions as far as I know.
Is there some special trick, setting or some I need to do to make it connect to 2g
It is original OS on it. I unfortunately can't root it, as my company mail will detect it and block my access. (Worx home by Citrix + touchdown)
What I have tested so far:
Factory reset of the phone.
New SIM card for both cards.
Activate and deactivate flight mode.
Deactivate and activate each SIM from the dual SIM manager.
Switch cards in slots (1->2 and 2->1).
Disable SIM1 ( SIM 2 still didn't connect)
I have also contacted each phone company, but they were to no use and just said it should work hehe
Any suggestions or ideas ? I'm open to all suggestions that doesn't involve getting another phone
Also this is not one of the cheap Chinese dual SIM versions.
Thanks
I may have managed to get a little closer to the cause.
It seems that SIM2 is actually only running over GSM / 2G for god knows what reason, and that is not supported by my phone company i Sweden, which is why it only works in Denmark.
I will try with another phone company called TDC and see if they have the same issues over there or else its bye bye useless dual sim
This was first flagged up by @ShootistUK on the Eragon ROM development thread but thought I would open a thread for it here as the other thread is getting long and is probably not the place to discuss this sim card.
Mine arrived today and I have spent many hours trying to get it working in my phones(Galaxy S3, Moto G 4G as well as the P8000) - I did manage to send and receive a text and make a call after installing their own messaging app(which they tell you to do) but so far have not managed to get data working at all despite it being basically a 3UK sim so it should use the same apn I would guess. I already have 3 other 3UK sims so am quite well versed in getting them working but so far the freedompop one has defeated me!
Hopefully ShootistUK will let us know if he has had any success(I doubt or if there is anyone else who has one of these sims please let me know.
Well, you have had more success than me. I fail to even get the application to work. It always gives me an error about using up all my premium minutes (or something similar) and to turn wifi off which does nothing at all to help. However I cannot get my 3-2-1 sim from 3 to work unless I make it the default data sim which pretty much defeats the object of having the sim in the phone alongside my vectone unlimited sim.
Hmmm, interesting - so your main sim is your vectone one(which is an EE mvno) - The problem with the 3 sim is that it cannot function in 2G mode and the p8000 doesn't allow you to run both sim slots in 3G mode so you are going to lose some functionality somewhere. What is your ideal setup by the way? I suspect it's not going to be achievable unfortunately...I am currently running my 3-2-1 sim as default for data/sms/calls and have a Vodafone payg as backup in case there's no 3 signal(so really for calls and the odd text too. I also have a tpo sim which I could use for backup but I don't think I can use the FP + 3-2-1 together and in fact can't even get the FP one fully working by itself. I may try again tomorrow in a different location in case it was a case of weak signal?? I'm sure I saw that error too but I'll see if I can replicate that issue again!
Well I have got both sims functioning at the moment by enabling default data sim as the 3-2-1 sim (but disabling data in the other menu so it doesnt use the data connection) and relying on wi-fi at home and work. At least this way I can receive and make calls/texts on both sims even though I can not use mobile data on the vectone sim and do not want to use the data on the payg sim. This is not in anyway a perfect solution but I suppose an issue with dual sim phones.
Yes, that's not ideal I guess but at least the vectone sim functions in 2G mode, I don't think it's possible to get two 3-2-1 sims working together.
Well I will now see if I can get my 3 pay monthly sim to work in the phone instead of the 3-2-1 sim using the same method. Just very annoying that they only work together if I have disabled data on the vectone and enabled and disabled the data on the 3-2-1 sim. Is there anyway to get the 3-2-1 sim and another sim working together with the data set to the non 3-2-1 sim? I like vectone for the price but willing to get another provider if I can get them to co-exist.
So you enable the data in the sim cards settings and disable in the data usage section, is that correct?
Simple answer is yes, make the 3-2-1 sim the preferred data sim and then disable the data in the data usage menu. Then both sims work for calls and sms. If i need mobile data I then make the vectone sim the data sim which turns the 3-2-1 sim off.
yeah that's a bit of a clunky solution but it's the only one that'll work unfortunately but you won't be able to get 2x 3UK sims working on 3G/4G at the same time I suspect...
